Two small but very important enhancements

In my prior posts I mentioned two very easy but important enhancemens. I did
not see them implemented in 2.2.4 or 2.2.5 so I would like to reemphasize my
points
1. When printing failed object in exception (or any other place where you
print OID) please print OID instance class otherwise people would get just
pk field value(s) and it is impossible to say which object actually failed.
We had it in production and could not figure out which class it was -
frustrating
2. There are cases when referential integrity can not be enforced (mylti
database models, view based tables etc) under this conditions it is possible
to get dangling references which are resolved by Kodo to null. In avarage
application if a required field suddenly gets resolved to null we get
NullPointerException. It would not be good idea to guard against nulls
because the field is required and can be null only due to data problems
(usually created by external database access). To aid debugging please log
those cases (when reference column has value but it does not point to any
valid record). It would be great if you could supply "from instance" (class
and OID), to instance (class and OID) and error message ofcourse

I just recreated this problem on my iMac (wired KB, no wireless KB) by changing Mail > Preferences > Composing > Spellcheck from "as I type" to "never". Then type a contraction ending in 're and the space bar causes the cursor to jump back as others have stated, to the spot 'r|e
Next, I went into System Preferences > Keyboard > Text, and turned off "use smart quotes" and the problem went away again.
From this point (smart quotes off, spell checking never), if I turn Smart Quotes ON, the problem returns.
The problem is dependent on the state of both settings.
The spacebar in Mail "works" if I have either of the following setting combinations:
Keyboard: smart quotes OFF, Mail: check spelling ANY SETTING
Keyboard: smart quotes ON, Mail: check spelling AS I TYPE
Other combinations FAIL
Keyboard: smart quotes ON, Mail: Check spelling NEVER
Keyboard: smart quotes ON, Mail: Check Spelling WHEN I CLICK SEND
Looks to me like there's a bug in Mail > Preferences > Check spelling > NEVER and WHEN I CLICK SEND that interacts badly with Keyboard > Smart quotes ON.

Partition Terror---Quick question but very important that I know the answer

I bought my iBook G4 about 4 months ago, and when I got it I didn't make any partitions. 4 months ago I didn't even know what a partition was. But, now I need to make another partition. With only one partition right now it isn't as easy as booting up into a different partition and editing the one I want to. I have one partition and that is the boot partition (obviously). I need to find a (freeware, I'm broke as of now) program that you can boot up into. I also can't afford an external hard drive (seriously, everything right now has to be free).
So basically:
Q: Can anyone find a bootable program that lets you resize and add partitions that is free.

iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.6) Small HD

I want that other partition because my friend is BEGGING me to try linux. I don't see why I couldn't just try it for him. I am only going to make a small 5 GB Partition. My info does say small HD, but that doesn't mean it's all used up. I have a 30 GB HD and I have only used about 10 GB. Also, if anyone knows any Live CD version of linux, or one that can run of a flash drive (other than flashlinux). The reason I want to do this is because I know I am eventually going to end up sending his emails to the junk folder and block his instant messages and block his calls on my cell phone if I don't just try linux. He won't give up until I try it, just the same way he's been trying to get me to switch back to windows (That won't happen, ever, windows *****). Anyways, I just want to prove to him that Mac is better. Also he showed me a linux only program I'm really interested in, so thats another reason. I have a feeling that i'm going to have to take about 20-30 screen shots to prove to him I tried it. But really, that program is the main reason I want to get a small 5 GB portion of my HD for it.

Two small but annoying 4.2.1 problems

I see some people are having really serious issues with WiFi and syncing and full-on device failure. The problems my iPod Touch is having are minor by comparison, but still annoying.
Problem 1 is the album art. I've never had any problems with the album art. But now there are some albums for which the art displays correctly when the iPod is on, but I'm listening in standby mode and hit the Home button, all I get is my wallpaper. The really weird thing is that this is happening ONLY to albums which I've tagged and added album art in iTunes SINCE THE 4.2.1 UPDATE. All the albums that were already on the iPod continue to display fine in both modes.
Problem 2 is videos tagged as TV Shows. They also always worked just fine, but since the 4.2.1 update not only can I not sort them by episode number, the iPod doesn't even seem to SEE the episode number - every video in the iPod is labeled "Episode 0". But all the info displays correctly in iTunes.
These problems aren't the end of the world, they're just annoying. But if anyone else is having these problems and knows how to correct them (or at least if they've been seen elsewhere and are being addressed by Apple) I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I've got a 3G 16GB and seem to have a similar problem. I've installed 4.2.1 and my GPS is not working. Triangulation is working, but I can't get a lock with the GPS. I've done some research on the net and it seems many are experiencing this. I've tried many suggested methods to fix it but nothing is working. If you find anything out please let me know! Is triangulation working for you?

Small but very annoying problem

I am running with a GF4 ti 4600 128mb and Windows xp home edition.
My problem is that after I go to color correction and change the contrast/gamma/brightness and click "apply" then activate a game any game the properties go back to the original settings I had before. Which is the hardware default btw.
So how can I keep the brightness up? It's really annoying when you try to play a game and everything is very dark.
My monitor is also up to its full contrast also.

If nothing else works, try changing the refresh rate of your monitor; usually lower refresh rates have a brighter image.
BTW have you tryed to use the on-screen controls of the monitor?

Hello everyone. I have just upgraded from a SoundBlaster Audigy, to a SoundBlaster X-Fi Music edition.
I have a collection of soundfonts which I used to use on my Audigy. They worked fine. Now that I'm using the X-Fi, they all work well, apart from one, and the one that doesn't work is my most used, most important soundfont.
Description of problem:
When I run my midi file, it starts playing the music using the new soundfont, but after about 0 seconds or so, the sound stops - even though the music is still playing. I then can occasionally hear a note or two, but its no longer playing properly. All my other soundfonts work perfectly, so I really dont understand why this one would cause troubles. They are all .SF2 files.
Other Information:
) I am using "SoundFont Bank Manager" to load the soundfonts. They all work great apart from the main one I want to use. It worked fine on my Audigy. The Cache part says 7.3mb Used/ 229.8mb Free.
2) I am on Windows XP Professional - Service pack 2.
3) The rest of my computer is very powerful. Its a core2duo, 2gig of RAM, 320gig seagate barracuda hard dri've etc. Regularly defragged.
4) I have the latest soundcard drivers (And direct X, video drivers, bios drivers, etc.).
5) I have no other problems with the computer.
6) My Midi program is Guitar Pro, which plays special midi files. It is set up properly, and it plays everything perfectly - using all my soundfonts, except the one I most want to use..
Please help me get this working. It is very important to me, and I need to get it working as soon as possible. I'll keep searching this thread incase I need to give any more information.

I have numbers on my ipad and after the latest update I can't open a spreadsheet in it, a very important spreadsheet. I have rebooted a number of times but this does not seem to have fixed it can someone advise what I can do??

I had the same problem. I created an iCloud account and backed up my iPad to iCloud. I then went to www.iCloud.com, signed-in and then I was able to download my spread sheet data. At least I have my data.

If you mean backed up as part of an iPhone backup in iTunes? If so, you would have to use 3rd party software to extract them from the backup, such as iPhone Backup Extractor.

If it will not connect to your computer, and it will not connect to the Internet, either via WiFi or cellular data, then there is no practical way to extract the information. There are no magic words that will fix the broken hardware.
You could try a 3rd party data recovery service, but doing so will forfeit your right to a discounted out of warranty replacement. Only you can decide it it's worth that.

How did you delete the Note? If you did a "select all" and "cut", open the Note and shake your iPhone to undo the cut action.

Removing the "Disabled" will erase the iPad. If you have important files on an iPad you should backup frequently.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

I would instead say you have a problem since nearly all IPs work as advertised. IF you do have a bad phone, take it into an Apple store and get a replacement. Hope you didn't jailbreak your phone though as Apple probably will tell you, you broke it, you fix it.

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Tru importing from your camera to it and to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

You have 3 CC under same Adobe ID out of which one purchased on has expired, you are getting notification due to this.
