Safari 4.0 Beta
The skill of those who wrote the code for Safari 4.0 is not in question. That what they produced though may or may not be judged as progress. That they speeded up Safari is good. They may as well have deleted the feature that are considered to be less than felicitous, if so, that is also desirable. That make two steps forward.
The upper half of the initial bookmarks screen is beautiful. It has marvelous control of the graphic objects. But what is its purpose? If it does have a useful purpose, which I doubt, the use of a black background slows mental interpretation of what human eye and human brain processes by at least 40%. It sure looks nice. One step back.
That half of the bookmarks screen is taken up with graphic games reduces the textual content by half. For what benefit? A second step back.
The blue ribbon in orevious versions that let you now tha the machine was working and how far the work was done was marvelous. The minescule clock symbol is hard for my old yes to see. It only lets y know that work is in progress.Somewhat like when driving from Boston to Seatle on I 90. You are somewher betweeen Watertown and the Floating Bridge. But where? One giant step back. That makes three steps back.
That the list of bookmarks still remains in chronological order is inexplicable. If they wanted to make use of the list as difficult as they could, they may have succeeded. May I suggest alpha -numeric order of the first ten characters? I am certain that they know how to do that.

Drag the separator bar up to the top of the screen to remove the coverflow view.
For the rest, Safari menu > Report bugs to Apple... (everyone here is just a user like yourself but sending feedback there will reach the right people).

  • Locked out of Apple ID AND lost Recovery Key for two-step verification

    Hey guys,
Firstly, as the title implies, this is a double-whammy of a problem, and obviously, it is very much my fault. The reason I'm bothering to post this, however, is to find out if anyone else has had this issue and where they are at with it.
    The story:
I set up two-step verification on my Apple ID about a year ago as I thought it was a good idea. I wrote the Recovery Key down as it told you to, and put it in a folder full of other important documents. In a epic mental lapse, however, I now remember later throwing out that folder, forgetting about my Recovery Key. Ya, that is my fault, I'm and idiot. Anyways...
Fast forward to a few days ago, and I all of a sudden received messages on all my devices saying that my Apple ID had been disabled for security reasons, and that I had to reset the account in order to regain access to it. Scary, but no problem, right? Well, after entering my Apple ID into iForgot.com, the first thing it asked me for was my Recovery Key. This is around the time I was banging my head against the wall in realization that I had thrown it away, but I was relieved to see the "Lost your Recovery Key?" option at the bottom of the screen. I was even more relieved to discover that I had what I needed to reset it: my current password and a trusted Apple device. The catch was that to reset it, I needed to log into my Apple ID to initiate it, which of course I couldn't do because it had been disabled, and the only way for me to disable it is, again, to enter in my Recovery Key. This effectively put me in and endless loop, without any apparent way of gaining accesses to my account. I did contact Apple about it, and I was ultimately told that the lock on my account was so tight, that not even Apple could gain access to it.
I understand that this level of security is probably the whole reason for the two-step verification in the first place, and I again concede that it was extremely foolish of me for forgetting about and discarding my Recovery Key, but a few things still don't make sense...
    1. Why would they put a "Lost your Recovery Key?" link on the password recovery page when a password is needed to reset the Recovery Key itself?
    2. As far as I can remember, Apple, in their briefing of how two-step verification works, did not bring up this scenario, which is probably relatively common. They DO mention that they can't help when you don't have access to two of the three necessary things for recovery, but they never brought up the apparent exception of if the account is disabled, in which case having two of the three things needed is not enough. I don't understand how they couldn't have mentioned this scenario.
    3. Given the above thought, how could Apple not have some sort of special contingency for this type of situation? I profess my ignorance of how these types of systems are set up, but I would feel that there should be a special method for recovery in place if the account has been locked, and the owner is able to verify that they have the password and trusted devices.
I didn't mean to make it sound like a rant. I ADORE Apple, but this system seems like it's less than perfect.
Has anyone else ran into this issue? If so, is your situation similar to mine?
    Thanks for any response!

    Hey everyone.
It's been awhile, but I wanted to share with anyone who is interested some general knowledge about this issue that I have learned while communicating with Apple support. Unsurprisingly, the issue is still unresolved, and I am under the impression that it will remain that way, but I'm still trying to get in touch with one of the senior representatives I spoke with a while ago who seemed to think that there might be a solution, so I suppose there is still a chance that things could turn out for the better.
    Here's the rundown:
Anytime you are unable to sign in to or access your account because of "security reasons", your account is under what is called a "DS Lockout".
A DS Lockout on an Apple ID can be triggered for a few reasons, such as when too many failed logins to the Apple ID (using an incorrect password) are attempted, or when a purchase is made that Apple believes to be fraudulent.
Under normal circumstances, a DS Lockout only lasts for 8 hours, after which the lock is lifted and access to the account by inputting the correct password is re-enabled.
This is where the catch for anybody who set up two-step verification is.
According to one of Apple's security representatives, IF you have two-step verification enabled upon being inflicted with a DS Lockout, the 8-hour lockout period is extended indefinitely as an additional security measure (a feature, I suppose). Therefore, the only way to regain access to the account is by resetting the password, as waiting for the lockout to expire is no longer an option. And of course, resetting your password, as stated by Apple, is one of the situations in which you need your Recovery Key. EVEN IF YOU KNOW WHAT THE ACCOUNT'S CURRENT PASSWORD IS, the lockout prevents you from being able to input it as a means of authentication. You MUST reset your password in order to regain access, and you MUST input your recovery key in order to reset your password.
So, that seems to be the gist of it. It does make sense, but here's my problem:
Upon setting up two-step verification, Apple does warn you of many things, but they do not make any mention of this specific scenario. Indeed, it is very much my fault for loosing my verification key, but the thing is, I’m human, I make mistakes, and I know that I will continue to do so. One of the reasons I chose to take the risk of setting up two-step verification is because Apple explicitly stated that as long as I had access to two of the three required "keys" -- my Recovery Key, my password, and at least one of my trusted Apple devices -- I would always be able to gain access to my account. In other words, as long as I didn’t screw up so bad as to loose access to two of my keys, I’d be okay. Obviously, there is a huge exception to this case that, again, is not mentioned anywhere, hence all the confusion. Had I know that it was possible that it could come down to me needing a single, specific key to regain access to my account, I probably would have opted out of two-step verification, recognizing that as a busy college student who's constantly reorganizing and dealing with tons of forms, worksheets, and other various documents, it's not as easy to hold on to a slip of paper as it might be for others. I'm hoping that at some point, Apple adds a big, red warning to the setup process which reads something like:
"In the event that your Apple ID is locked due to a detected security risk, your Recovery key will be necessary to regaining access to your account; knowing your password and/or having access to any of your trusted devices will no longer be enough."
I really do appreciate how seriously Apple takes its security, but I think that there is still room for improvement. This should start with more clearly and fully stating the conditions of its security measures, as well as having its customer support be more educated on these conditions (they themselves stated that they had never been trained on issues revolving around two-step verification). Protecting someone's private information is important, but so too is making every possible effort to ensure that customers can't easily loose access to all the content and services that they have spent much time and money building up and using.
As stated above, I'm still trying to get a hold of the Apple representative who initially assisted me, so if I have any additional updates, I'll be sure to reply to this thread. I hope that anyone who is going through the same issue, or is simply curious, finds this information to be useful.

  • Alternate to set up two-step if SMS short codes blocked?

    Facts:
To prevent spam expenses, my corporate mobile plan blocks all SMS short codes.
Setting up two-step verification for Apple ID requires receiving a verification code that is (currently) sent from Apple using an SMS short code.
There is zero chance that the administrator of my mobile plan will unblock SMS short codes across the board for any period of time.
Given the above facts, which of the following three options (or maybe another one you know of?) is most likely to allow me to set up two-step verification:
Find which SMS short code(s) Apple sends verification codes from and unblock only those short codes. KB HT5593 "Apple ID: About two-step verification and SMS" lists the supported mobile carriers; does anyone know Apple's SMS short codes for those carriers?
Have Apple ID send the verification code from a regular, non-short code SMS number like Yahoo! does?
Have Apple ID deliver the verification code using a voice call like Google does?
Thank you.  I'm looking forward to Apple ID catching up with other cloud services.

That does suck.  You are trying to implement modern security that you company should applaud yet can't.
My only thought to try is if you associate your AppleID email with iMessages settings in iOS does Apple still send an SMS or do they then send an iMessage that might get through?
It's too bad that Apple doesn't support Google Authenticator App like so many other cloud services do.
    Good luck.

  • Success and Step Forward - with Pages

I have been in the process of writing a book, and having done most of the preliminary writing in Nisus Writer (Classic) OS 9. Then when I made the switch to OS X about 14 months ago I decided to put it into MS Word 2004. Generally it went well. But I had about 100 pages of photos to insert at various places through the book (making 300+ pages). That made me nervous attempting that with Word.
About two months ago I decided to try Pages for the photo layout alone. After a while I got the hang of it, and completed almost all photos (I still have cropping and layout for 30 photos) this past week. Then as an after thought I opened a copy of the Word document (I always use a copy!) in Pages. It opened almost perfectly, headers, footers (no footnotes, endnotes or bibliography) came through fine, but the page breaks were slightly off, which for me is a minor issue.
So, now my next step is to put everything into Pages including the photos (probably break the file into chapter files for faster, easier work/editing). So a five year project is about to wrap up in the next month, and Pages has been the breakthrough I needed to make it this far. It was far more satisfying than buying InDesign or Quark and trying to learn one of those, then produce anything with it. And since this will be self-published I don't have to have it print-shop perfect for them in their format.
Maybe for many of you this seems rather minor. But for me struggling to find the right software to finish the project without losing the rest of my hair, this was a big deal, and a major step forward.

    Hi Dennis,
I might be able to answer a few of your points. Having had two books published now I've got quite used to the wierdness of publishers and editors. With the editor I just send them a word document that they make their changes to in a differnet colour. Once all the editing is done and we're due to submit it to the publisher how it is submitted depends greatly on the publisher. My publisher accepts the manuscript in electronic format which is very rare. Most publishers still require that the manuscript be submitted in printed manuscript format. After the manuscript has been accepted by the publisher they make their changes and then we move into the PDF proof stage. Once everyone is happy it then goes to typesetting for print.
I've had no issue with pages for either method and it certainly handles the large document lengths without issue.

  • Report to track interlinked movement of a material in a two step transfer

Request your input for the following
The scenario is that the stock transfer  from one storage location to the other happens a two step transfer (313 and 315). To track the invenotry movements they want a report on a daily basis (gap of 24 hrs, 48 hrs etc) which can list down all the details at item level for materials for which the movement type 313 has happened but movement type 315 still needs to happen and the time gap between these two steps (i.e wether it has been 1 day or two days. etc.).
Is there is a standard report  for movement types which are interlinked (like in this case 313 and 315 ) through which we can track what is the time gap between the first and second movement type and how much stock is waiting for the second step to happen before it can be avaialable to sell.
    Thanks

  • Report for field sammg and refnr in two step picking

    Hello Experts,
I have configure two step picking which is working fine.
But my concern is when I create a group from deliveries using VL06P, an five digit number (23717) is generated. But while putting same group number in LT72 screen for analysis or doing LT0E, I am getting en error that "this group number is not existing in system.
Then I have to go to SE16 and search in table T311. Then I found that there are two group number in this table which technical name are REFNR and SAMMG. So I have to pass 23717 in SAMMG field and note down the number (17) from REFNR field and process with REFNR number.
So is there any report whether I can get the same (when I pass SAMMG number I will get REFNR number) because my business user don't have access to SE16 again it is not acceptable to business.
Or is there anyway by which I can assign same number to both SAMMG and REFNR, so that my client will refer only one number in stead of two number.
I am hereby attaching one test data. Kindly go through it and revert to me with your analysis.
    Best Regards,
    Raghu Nayak.

as an standard SAP you should be able to process the group number(23717) it seems there is some other setting / customization or you are following any additional steps in your system which generates the another number in Group (REFNR) field of T311 as in my case i am getting the same number in both the Group field

  • XMLP print - two steps or one step?

When we were in 11.5.9 + XMLP 4.5 (with XMLP and CM integrated configuration), to print concurrent reports via XMLP always two steps. namely, the first step produces XML file and the second step is running XML Publisher Report to feed the XML file to the template and print pdf output.
After we upgraded EBS from 11.5.9 to 11.5.10.2, the XMLP has also been upgraded to 5.0. Apperas to be (my observation) that SRS enabled reports(such as "Printed Purchase Order(Portait)", "Invoice Print Batch of Invoices", "Invoice Print Preview Report", "Invoice Print Selected Invoices", etc) can been printed in one step (no need to run the second step - run XMLP, OPP takes care of it).
However, for non-SRS programs, such as "Print purchase order", "Print Statement", "Dunning Letter Print", it still need two steps. Oracle support says, it is bug to specific report (she gave Dunning Letter Print as example) and not related to SRS.
Just wonder if any one in this forum has similar circumstances and has got any workaround.
    Any help and information appreciated.

You are correct in your assessment. We created a program that submits the desired program then passes the request id, template, etc. to the xml report publisher concurrent program.

  • Can I setup two-step verification for more than one Apple ID?

I have one iPad and one iPhone.
    I have four Apple IDs.
I want to setup two-step verification in all four accounts.
    Can I?
It seems that I can't, because to add a "trusted device" to an Apple ID requires setting up Find My iPhone on that device. Find My iPhone requires an iCloud account (which is available with every Apple ID). But once you change the iCloud account account used for Find My iPhone on a device, the device will not be able to be used in two-step verification for the previous iCloud account. Or will it get remembered?
Anyone have any knowledge about this?

You should be able to have more than account authorised on your Mac's iTunes via the Store > Authorise This Computer menu option - and you should be able to select and sync purchases from both accounts to your phones

  • Can't activate iPhone because Apple ID is locked 'for security reasons', can't reset Apple ID because need iPhone to receive two-step activate code!

    So here's an interesting one...
I have just updated iOS on my iPhone and it came up with the activation prompt. I entered my iCloud email and password and it told me that my account was disabled for security purposes.
This happens quite regularly as my iCloud account and I constantly get the account locked out as other people mistake it for their account.
The procedure to unlock my account is to visit iforgot.apple.com and select the 'Reset your password' option, enter my iCloud email address, two-step recovery key and then nominate my iPhone to receive a two-step authentication code.
The problem is my phone won't receive the authentication code because it needs activation! My iPad is also listed but also won't receive the authentication code, I expect because my Apple ID is disabled!
Having read the support article regarding what to do when you can't receive the two-step authentication code it says login to your apple id account and manage the list of devices! You what!? I can't login because my account is disabled.
It seems there is a complete design flaw here in that I can't activate my phone without unlocking my Apple ID and I can't unlock my Apple ID without activating my iPhone first!
I've spoken to Apple in the past about this and their response was to login and manage my devices and I pointed out that I could not login in because my account is disabled. They then basically said there is nothing I can do! Really? They won't unlock my Apple ID because they don't have the ability to do so.
If I'm not mistaken my iPhone is no longer fit for propose and if I can't sort this I will be visiting the Apple store and asking for a replacement as basically my device is bricked. I guess I will have to create a new Apple ID and will no longer be able to get to my email on the old account!?
Any folks on here has similar issues or any suggestions?
    <Email Edited by Host>

I have something similar going on, but not exact.  I basically have a useless phone here because I restored the phone but supposedly when my son's father redid the phone years ago for our son he added the phone to HIS apple id (on find my phoen supposedly) which he no longer has nor uses.  I need said apple id and pass to finish restoring the phone.  Maybe we should all get together and pile all our bricks in front of apple headquarters so no one can get out of the building and they have to stay there until they fix this.  :-P

  • I forgot my icloud password and answers to the security questions, only have a primary email and don´t have a resque email, neither pin nor two steps to reset password.

How to get a temporary pin number to my primary email apple ID cause i can not access to my icloud cause i forgot password and answers to the security questions, neither key nor two steps.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

  • Sharepoint Designer - Two step List Workflow task item is not changing the status from not started to Complete

    Hi
Using SPD i am creating list workflow.
Scenario: Employee submits a request . Task assign to manager. Manager can either approve/ reject. If approve then change the state column to "done". If rejected the state column to "Rejected".
Problem is "Assign a to do item" is assigning the task to manager. But after manager approves the status in the task list not changed to "Completed". Still it is showing "Not started". I dont want to manually complete the task.
Please help me for automatic process.
What i should do to change the status to "Complete" automatically after manager approval
    Regards
    Jhanani
    Janani.R

    Hi Janani,
From your description, you would like to create an approval workflow for a list. When an employee submit a request to the list, an approval task should be assigned to manager, then manager could approve or reject the request. From the request list,
we should be able to see the Approval task’s status.
Not understand the reason of designing the workflow to two steps, an approval action should be enough from my understanding. For producing, I create a list named Request list, then customize it in InfoPath form to add a Request field for stating request
content. Then add a workflow to list named Approval task, add the action of Start an approval process with administrator and make the workflow automatically start when item is added.
The image below shows the status of Adding items, Approving and Rejecting. Please check if it could meet your requirement.

  • Since installing Microsoft two step verification for my Outlook account via my PC I can no longer send emails on this account on my iPad. How can I rectify this?

Since installing Microsoft two step verification on my Outlook Account via my PC (Acer) I am unable to send emails on my iPad. I can neither remove two step verification or find a way to solve this. I would prefer to keep this email account as my prime one.

You will probably need to create an app password for the Outlook account for use on the iPad...

  • CS6 Auto-Save: 1 step forward, 1 step back

I have done a little testing with the auto-save, and there is some progress with CS6 - especially in the area where earlier versions would stop playback or scrubbing to fire off an auto-save.
It looks like the auto-save does not stop playback or scrubbing on the timeline anymore.  It will stop you from other operations such as moving an audio slider or other non-critical mouse clicks.  I tested with 1 minute intervals, and it appears that it won't auto-save during playback or scrubbing in the background, and will wait until the next interval after playback has stopped until it saves. (Instead of taking the very next possible moment after playback has stopped to makeup for the save)  This seems like it could create the possibility that if you are playing back or scrubbing during multiple interval moments, you could have a long period where there are no auto-saves - especially if you set the interval to a high number.  Like I said, I only tested with a 1 minute interval, so maybe this functions differently if you save every 10 or 20 minutes.  Maybe then it will do an auto-save right after playback has stopped if it has been awhile.
The step back is that if you hide PPro, (I'm on a Mac, btw) instead of just bouncing the dock icon during an auto-save like previous versions, it will actually bring PPro to the front and block out/cancel anything else you are doing on your machine.  How annoying!  I can't figure out the reason to have it function like this.  If it is simply hidden behind other windows, it does not do this, instead only brings to the front the small auto-save progress bar - It only happens if you hide the appplication.  For example, if you are moving back and forth between PPro and AE, you could be working away on a comp in AE and suddenly PPro jumps to the foreground to let you know it did an auto-save.  Since I have 2 monitors, I like to hide apps that I'm not working in to hide pallettes and other windows so I can have my desktop back.  Seems like the solution for now is to not hide PPro ever and to do a proper save more often to avoid the issue of potential long periods of no auto-saves. (And submit a bug report?)
Anyways, long post for a potential trivial thing, but for those who care about this, it is a change.  Anyone else experiencing this?

    Jim,
Exactly, and that is what the "1 step forward" is with CS6.  It drove me crazy when Auto-Save would interrupt playback.  I was suggesting that it would be a better option that if you are playing back during an auto-save interval, it should take the very next opportunity to fire off a save, like maybe after hitting stop when there is a moment of downtime.  However - in my testing - it looks like it skips that interval completely and waits for the next one.  So, if you have it set to save every 10 minutes, but are playing back your timeline during each of those 10 minute intervals, it will never auto-save even if there are large stretches of time in between when you are doing nothing.  It seems like it could be more intellegent about when it saves, and do it quieter in the background.
