Two-USB camera identification

Hi everyone. I have two same USB cameras wanted to connected to the computer. The two cameras are same and use the same driver to install on computer. When I want to use MAX or IMAQdx Open.vi to connect the camera I can only find one camera connected on my computer. So are there any ways to get this two cameras identified by LabVIEW and then I can use them to capture images at the same time. Thank you very much!

Hi
To acquire from multiple cameras in LabVIEW, you must enumerate the list of cameras with the IMAQ USB/Imaqdx Enumerate Cameras VI. Then a session can be opened for each different camera.

  • MAX cannot find two usb cameras at same time

    Hi,
I want to use two usb cameras (Thorlabs DCC 1545M) in NI-IMAQdx in Labview, but it can only find one camera (the one plugged in earlier), and also only one camera is shown in MAX. Both cameras works in the software from the manufacturer, and if I unplug the 1st camera, the 2nd will show up in MAX after a refresh.
I found online that up to one camera is supported for each USB hub in Labview, and all USB ports in this computer are corresponding to a same hub. I don't know if this is causing the problem.
Actually I don't need to take picture in both cameras at the same time, a programmed switch between the two cameras will work for me.
Any suggestion and comment will be appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello JYang,
According to this link, you can acquire from multiple USB cameras simultaneously.  The limitation is on the manufacturer and how they interface with the DirectShow bus.  When you are using two cameras of the same make and model, it is sometimes the case that not enough information is present for IMAQdx to distinguish between the two cameras.  When you switch the cameras in MAX, do they come in as different cameras, or do they show up virtually the same?
Since you said switching between them would work, I found an example that does just that.  Just make sure to give each camera a unique camera name.  Hopefully this will be useful for you.
Also, there is quite a bit of discussion on this topic available on the discussion forum already.  Check out these related threads, or use the Search box to search for more.  There is quite a lot of information available!

  • Two Simultaneous USB Camera Image Acquisition and Saving

    Hello everyone,
Recently my friends and I have begun a project which requires the simultaneous acquisition of images from two independent USB cameras. Throughout our project research we have encountered many difficulties. The major problem appears to be how to successfully interface two USB cameras and properly save the image to a median for further processing down the road.
Our first attempted at this was with the USB IMAQ drivers. Unfortunately, to our surprise, it does not support two independent and simultaneous camera acquisitions. To combat this problem we implemented a crude loop of closing a camera reference, then opening the other, acquiring an image, then closing, etc... This did provide us with functionality but was very inefficient, resulting insufficient acquisition speeds.
Afterwards we began looking at other ways of capturing and writing the image, which are listed below.
    Various Acquisition Interfaces / Strategies
USB IMAQ Driver - USB interfacing kit available for public download, (not officially supported by NI) zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5030
Status - Abandoned because of the lack of dual web camera support
Avicap32.dll - Windows 32 DLL responsible for all web camera communication, and other media devices.
Status - Currently acquired two streams of video on the front panel but with no way of saving the images
Directx - The core Windows technology that drives high-speed multimedia on a PC.
    Status - Currently researching.
.NET - Microsoft .NET framework, possibly a valid interface to a video stream.
Status - No development until further progress.
We are still currently developing the Avicap32.dll code but the major bottleneck is the learning curve on the property nodes, library calling nodes, .NET and other references. So far it’s been a tedious effort of trying to understand example code and piece them together. As a former programmer of C I know this is not the proper way of writing code web I can’t seem to grasp how these functions work. (Property nodes, library calling nodes, .NET and other references). Learning this may allow us the knowledge to code a proper system. Does anyone know any good tutorials or learning material for such functions? So far my research has come up empty handed.
We are currently working with these interfaces and other reference examples on the NI site. Unfortunately we cannot seem to properly integrate the code for our system. Does anyone know if this setup is even possible? Also, if anyone has any experience with similar systems and can offer advice, code snippets, or any other assistance it would be greatly appreciated.
Our current projects will be posted below if you have any suggestions. (More will be added when I get to my desktop tomorrow)
Two Camera Avicap32.dll - Currently stuck on how to save the image, various tweaks have gotten us stuck at this point ( will have another Avicap32.dll implementation posted tomorrow)
USB Capture Example - This USB capture VI was an example that immediate had problems. We used it as a baseline for crude open-close camera image grabbing system. (Will also be posted tomorrow)
Thanks for any help, it's much appreciated.

Thanks for the information but that's not exactly what I'm looking for. I've been to that URL and read the information before. I don't mean to disparage you help but I'm looking for ways that I can successfully implement a functional system, not information on an unfunctional method. Maybe I was unclear before, I'm looking for any advice, knowledge or help on how to make this system properly work.
    Thanks, have a great day.

  • Is it possible to have two USB drives for the IPad?  I want to bring RAW photo files from my camera, through the IPad and back to an external hard drive.  One of my cameras does not use an SD card.  How can I do this?

Is it possible to have two USB drives for the IPad?  I want to bring RAW files from my camera through the IPad and out to an external hard drive.  One of my cameras has an SD card but the other one doesn't have a card that would fit in any of the camera devices I've seen on line.  Realted to this, I bought the IPad camera accessory.  Can I put the SD card in the device and also hook the external hard drive to the USB port of the accessory and download from the camera to the hard drive?  Can I put Lightroom or the Nikon photo editing software on the IPad?  Right now I carry a PC laptop and external hard drives with me on wildernes trips.  Internet and WiFi are not available.  Because I shoot so many photos and they're in RAW I need to download from the camera to the external drive because I run out of memory on the PC (and it has much more memory than the IPad).  I have Nikon NX software and lightroom on my PC.  I'd love to be able to reduce the weight I carry by using the IPad to edit my photos each night while on trips.  Is this possible and how would I do it?  I'd appreciate any guidance.

No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). There are some apps that perform fairly basic editing functions that are available in the store, but nothing as sophisticated as, for example, Lightroom.

  • Can't see pictures from Ipad in Windows Explorer (usb camera)

When I had around 3000 pictures in my Ipad, there's no problem to delete all at once from windows using the explorer and the ipad as a usb camera. But now I have around 6000 pictures and when I try to see the pictures, windows shows two messages: 1 the usb camera is busy and the pictures can't be accesed and the second message: 0 objects in the image folder is empty (zero pictures).
I don't understand: there's a problem with the number of pictures? Why with less pictures everything works fine? Why I can't select ALL the pictures from a event to delete ALL at once.... the instructions to select more that one picture it doesn't work for me.
The issue with the pictures is draving me crazy! The soluction to select the pictures one by one is just "insane".
    Help Please.

    It really works!! (Thanx God)...
I was making a mistake while pressing the first picture. There's such kind of technique in the way put both fingers at once. If one finger touch the screen first it doesn't work. it needs a little bit of pressure but not too much. Anywary after a couple of minutes of "training" I can delete many pictures with the minimal effort.
Maybe in the future the "Select All" option will appear to solve this issue at last.
Thanx for the help... This is a really good advice.

  • What is the exact technical difference between "Lightning to USB Camera Adapter" and "Lightning to USB Cable"

Mainly I am interested in attaching the iPhone to a receiver (or car etc.) to play music.
Both the "Lightning to USB Cable" and the "Lightning to USB Camera Adapter" seem to do the trick. So what is the exact technical difference between the two items?
When connected to a receiver, is the iPhone the USB Master in both cases? Is the USB "Audio Device Class" standard used to transmit audio?

Thanks for all the answers! I think I should specify the use case much more clearly. Sorry for not having done this earlier.
    Use Case 1:
When I connect the iPhone to the receiver I can use the Lightning to USB, because the receiver has a female type A, just like e.g. a PC or like the charger. So I would agree that the Receiver must be the USB host, and the iPhone the USB device. This works just fine in my case, with iPhone and iPad.
In this case, the audio goes from the device to the host, or "Audio-in".
    Use Case 2:
A friend of mine has a small device that converts USB to Toslink. This thing has a female Mini USB Type A, which is typically used at the receiving side of a USB connection. This device can be connected e.g. to a Mac, and then the Mac can output audio via this device to receiver which accepts optical Toslink signals.
In this case, the audio goes from the host to the device, or "Audio-out".
It is this use case 2 that I am unsure about:
    a) Can the Lightning to USB cable be used in this case (assuming that I find the necessary non-standard adapters to actually connect the USB ports)? This would mean that the iPhone can act as a USB host with the Lightning to USB cable.
    b) I know that the Lightning to USB Camera Adapter does convert the iPad into an USB host, otherwise it could not read data from a camera. So could this adapter also be used to produce "Audio out" to a USB device that supports receiving music?
If yes, would this also work with an iPhone (as pointed out in another answer, the iPhone does nor support reading pictures from a camera)?

  • Continuing import problem with USB cameras.

In other threads people have discussed problems they are having with iMovie 7.1.1 in importing with USB cameras. I have had the same experience with my Sony CX-7 on two different MacBook Pros including a brand new one. Once in a while the camera will trigger the import page but usually not. Is this a bug Apple is aware of and working on?? Other suggestions for a fix or work around. Very frustrating.

Hmmm... I think there might be some sort of bug with the app regarding USB port connections. iMovie wouldn't even launch for me until I disconnected my 2 external drives. However, it seems that when I mount the external HD that's connected via firewire, iMovie is able to launch. But when it's the other external drive that's connected via USB that's mounted, that's when iMovie won't even open... And the weirdest thing is that, when the external HD that's mounted via USB is connected, just as you think the app has launched correctly, it sort of brings up an error message box that I can't even read for it just crashes immediately...

  • Hook-up Two USB mics to iMac

Is there any easy way to hook two USB microphones into an iMac through USB ports? Particularly if you're an idiot?

just plug them in but using them at the same time is another matter
pretty sure the general system only support 1 at the time so it's up to the app to support more
in my sounds settings I have
    Internal Microphone
    line In
    soundflower 16ch
    soundflower 2ch
Nokia BH-503 (this is the mic in my bluetooth headset)
Logitech camera (this is the build in mic in my extre logitech usb webcam)
all can be used by the system but only 1 at the time
if you want support for more then one then I believe you have to depend on the music recording app supporting it

  • Can't see external USB camera in iMovie or Quicktime. Macbook, running Yosemite

I am using a Logitech C930e external USB camera with my Macbook running Yosemite 10.10.1. Trying to capture video - neither quicktime or iMovie recognize the external USB camera. Any suggestions?

Thanks so much for the reply.
I know this sounds ridiculous as it was only two days ago but I can't actually remember. I don't think I actually got round to reformatting as I don't remember concluding which format was going to be best for me.
For information - there is no data on this drive that I want to keep. It is straight from the supplier.
If there was a way to reset it that would ideal although if I did format to mac extended journaled what should I do next?

  • Multiple USB Camera's

I want to use two USB web cam's (Both Agent V6 from Liquiddigital) on my Mac Mini.
All programs show both cam's but whatever I choose I see images from one of them.
How can I make OSx support both cam's at the same time?

Addition to my previous question; If I have just one application using a webcam, I can switch to the other but when one of the camera's is in use by an application I can't have another application use the other.
The reason that I'm posting this question is that I'd like to use the SKJM Icam software for remote monitoring multiple webcam's on my iPhone but it seems that OSx only supports one webcam at a time.

  • Can't import into FCE 4 using usb cameras

Hi - I do understand others have asked this, but I can't quite understand the answers. Since we upgraded our library camera to a pro model (panasonic) that uses SD cards rather than tape, and USB 2 rather than firewire, I cannot import anything into FCE. What's worse, though iMovie 8 will recognize the cards and import the movies, the sound is invariably out of sync. So I have two problems:
    1. I understand from the other posts I've read that I will have to change my settings if FCE is to recognize the USB camera. But exactly how do I do this? It's far from transparent.
    2. Then, is there a way we can salvage the movies with the out-of sync sound by importing them into FCE? I have tried this with one file so far, but the result was dropped frames that were really noticable.
Ideally, I'd just love to use iMovie, which I know, but something has gone wrong with the import process there since we upgraded our camera. (Really ideally - I'd stay with iMovie HD!).
The most important part of this question, for now, is: how do I change the settings in FCE so that I can import with a usb camera? Do I need to reinstall it? TIA!

The only type of USB camcorder that FCE supports is the AVCHD format. If your camera records like that, you are in luck. Start by going to +Final Cut Express > Easy Setup.+ From there, select the setup that matches the media you shot. For example, if you shot footage with a frame size of 1920x1080 at 29.97 frames per second, choose the AVCHD Apple Intermediate Codec 1920x1080i60 setup.
Once you have matched your easy setup to your media, create a new sequence. Go to +File > Log and Transfer,+ which will open a window with which you can log and ingest your AVCHD footage to your computer from your camera.
    2. Then, is there a way we can salvage the movies with the out-of sync sound by importing them into FCE?
Most likely not. If you want to continue using iMovie you should ask over in the iMovie forum about how to capture your footage while keeping the audio in sync.

  • Two identical cameras connected to one PC

    Hi,
For stereo image capture I have two USB Logiech Pro 4000 cameras connected to my computer. However, the JMF Registry is not able to register both. I can work just with the firstly plugged one. Can anybody help me? Thanks.

It's a well known problem with JMF....
    http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=4890873
Think it had something to do with each webcam needing it's own USB channel
or USB root.... vaguely remember reading that.
You may need to write native C++ code to capture the images from multiple webcams.... may be preferrable for speed anyways.

  • Hang/delay starting up multiple USB cameras?

This one has been going on for a while, but it's been inonsistent in behavior with different computers and different configurations.
Our Flex application uses two cameras, user selectable from our interface.  I've got a stripped down version of the code (done as a web app from Flash Builder) that I've pasted below.  It has two dropdowns to select the cameras, and a preview display area for the selected camera.
It appears that, depending on the USB bus configuration and where the cameras are, it will either work correctly or hang for an indeterminate amount of time (usually over 30 seconds) when a second USB camera is selected.  I've been able to reproduce this fairly consistently if both cameras are plugged into a hub.  On other computers in our office, it will work with the cameras plugged into one set of ports but hang when one of the cameras is moved to another port.
Another note, if I leave the camera in default mode (320x240, 15FPS) everything seems to work consistently.  If I leave the resolution at 320x240 and change the frame rate to 30FPS, it also works.  However, if I change the resolution to 640x480, it will have the delay.
Any suggestions on this?  Yes, we need to have both cameras, and yes they need to be 640x480.

    Dear everyXnewXday,
I'm as mystified as you are. This sounds exactly like my issue. Have you tried starting up in Verbose mode (hold down cmd-V on startup)? This will give you a running log of events that occur during startup, and may indicate where errors are occurring that the operating system has to resolve or work around in order to proceed. I'm no expert in interpreting this information, though, which is why I posted this question in the event others have ideas about how to reduce the amount of computational "red tape."
Do you have many external drives or other peripherals connected to your computer? One thing I have noticed in the startup sequence is that the OS has some difficulty recognizing or mounting some of them (in particular, a Seagate FreeAgent USB drive). Not sure if this is a driver issue, but I believe I have the most current drivers for all my external drives.

  • Can I use a USB camera with the 3rd party USB camera software and share screens?

I want to do more than just use a USB camera w/iChat (or ichatusb).  I also need to be able to initiate screen sharing between two computers.  Specifically, I will use iChat with an insight built in camera on my end, and the other person will be using an iMac G5 PPC using a USB camera and the 3rd party USB software for USB ichat support.
My question then is am I able to request screen sharing (taking over their screen) from my ichat/fw combo to their ichatusb/usb combo?
    thanks
    dc

    Hi,
The Cameras don't come into this at all.  (But iChat and OS versions do)
Each end needs iChat 4 or higher.
Go to the Video menu and Enable Screen Sharing (Selecting toggles a tick On and Off (Tick Present is ON) )
Highlight Buddy in list and use the Screen Sharing icon at the bottom of the list (interlinked rectangles).
The G5 could be on Leopard (iChat 4) and be using a  USB 1.1 camera that would need iUSBCam (formerly iChatUSBCam) as well as the Camera manufacturers Software.
iChat 3 (In Tiger OS 10.4.x) on the G5 with a USB 1.1 camera, Software and iUSBCam may well offer a Screen Sharing option (Or rather Desktop as Video Feed) in the iChat > Video Menu  and that will not work
However if the G5 has USB 2.0 ports (not the Keyboard additional ports) then if it is up to OS 10.4.9 it can use a UVC Camera for Video Chats  (UVC = USB Video Class No need for Additional Drivers) but Screen Sharing will still be an issue due to the iChat version.
IF the G5 is still on OS 10.4.x then you will have to use a third Party VNC app at both ends (And run a iChat Audio Chat along side)

  • USB camera substitutes for internal isight web cam

I am exploring the possibility of using one of two usb sources as external chat cams for ichat/AV (as opposed to internal isight, which I find inflexible on my desktop imac).
I have connected both sources, but neither are found as external cam options when I open up ichat.
My two options are (1) canon powershot A85 digital camera (2) macally icecam (which worked fine on an older G3 powerpc imac).
I am wondering who has successfully used powershot A85 or icecam as a webcam instead of isight in 10.5 environs, how you got them to function, what circumstances have you tried that did not work, and any retrospective insight as to why one or both worked.
I'm just beginning the learning curve for leopard. I have used macs for awhile now, but I am hoping to maximize my knowledge towards incorporating some purchases that are less than 5 years old in order to reduce waste and reduce personal expenditure.
Thanks in advance for both good and gloomy information regarding this matter.
    Best to All!

Your exploration will not go far since the iMac's FireWire ports will not work with your cam.
(you'll need an extra hub in between, then it will work)
USB 2.0 is very fast, a USB webcam that is UVC compatible will work, almost as good as your built in.
