Two Xserve hosts connect to an Xserve RAID storage system

Hello everyone
We have 2 Xserver hosts and a RAID storage:
Host A has Dual-port Fibre Channel PCI card
Host B doesn´t have Dual-port Fibre Channel PCI card
Right now I am using

I tried to put the whole text. It did not work. What is wrong?
I put it here:

  • RAID Storage Systems

    Anyone care to recommend the best RAID storage systems for iMac, greater than 1TB? I read a review in MacWorld on the LaCie, but it is only RAID 0 and therefore not great for LT storage of prized and growing digital content libraries. I am thinking RAID 5 with data striping. I am new to the Mac world and would really welcome this forum input.
    Thanks
    Mark

    I have three hard drives of equal size (300 GBs in my case.) Two drives are configured as a mirrored RAID (RAID 1) and acts as the permanent backup of the other. This setup provides redundant backup for safety. I use a backup utility to create and maintain a clone of the main drive to the backup RAID doing scheduled backups on a daily, weekly, and monthly schedule. Here are some recommendations for backup software:
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
    The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
    Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
    Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.
    As far as creating a RAID is concerned a striped RAID (RAID 0) is similar to RAID 5 except it lacks the distributed parity. The OS X built-in RAID software can create RAID 0, 1, and 0+1 arrays.
    Why reward points?(Quoted from Discussions Terms of Use.)
    The reward system helps to increase community participation. When a community member gives you (or another member) a reward for providing helpful advice or a solution to their question, your accumulated points will increase your status level within the community.
    Members may reward you with 5 points if they deem that your reply is helpful and 10 points if you post a solution to their issue. Likewise, when you mark a reply as Helpful or Solved in your own created topic, you will be awarding the respondent with the same point values.

  • What RAID storage system should I use?

    To set the stage here. I'm somewhat of a newbie to the video industry. I've worked as a videographer for a non-profit for 5 years. At that job, we just skimped by on what we could afford, which wasn't much. I just started a new "professional level" job for a school district and have been given the keys to a fairly substantial budget to get whatever I need to do the job.
    I want to do right by them and not waste money, so I want my purchase decisions to be educated. I'm an intermediate computer user, but have never used raid configurations before, so please be kind. Also, we can really only purchase through a few vendors. B&H is where I'm getting all my other video equipment, so I'm only looking at options available there for my storage needs as well.
    Right now we record using Canon XA10 and XA20 model cameras. I'm hoping to upgrade to XF300's with this new budget, but still we're only talking MXF files, 1920x1080 at 50Mbps 4:2:2. So I'm not dealing with huge uncompressed footage.
    Still I record a fair amount of footage. In the first 2 months on the job I've accumulated about 460GB of raw video, and I don't expect demand to go down in the future.
    Right now, my idea is to purchase two Western Digital 12TB Raid Arrays in Raid 0.
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1053138-REG/wd_wdblwe0120jch_nesn_12tb_my_book_duo.h tml
    (I should note, I'm using a Windows 7 PC, so I only have access to USB 3.0, not Thunderbolt)
    The first raid array would be my scratch disk, the second would be used for manual backup at the end of every day. (Using a utility like SyncBack)
    Once my projects are complete, and I'm sure I won't need to access them, I'd like to move them off to a 3rd RAID array like this set up in Raid 5 for redundancy.
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1018063-REG/owc_other_world_computing_mercury_qx2_4_ by_hw.html#specOWCM3QX2K0GB
    This array would serve primarily as an archival unit, with only occasional transfers to it and use in only rare circumstances where I need access to several month old footage.
    Do you have any suggestions of a better system or workflow?
    Thanks so much!

    Would be good to raise this over on the:

  • Xserve hosting setup question

    Hello, we are looking to get two Xserves. One for MySQL and another for website hosting. - Will we need a separate IP address for the MySQL server and just enter that as the host to connect to in the php code, or can we directly hook the MySQL Xserve to the main web Xserve through gigabit ethernet and connect to it that way? If so what would the host name be to connect to it? It couldn't be localhost, so would it be a local assigned IP by the main web Xserve, like 192.168.--

    So once I have both my Xserves setup, how do I connect to the MySQL server
    There are so many possible causes for this, and not enough information in your post to tell specifically which.
    For example, do you get any error message?
    My expectation would be that MySQL is not accepting the connection because of the access privileges. In order for for you to connect from any remote host you need to tell MySQL specifically which usernames, with which passwords, connecting from which hosts are allow what level of access to which databases.
    Sounds like a lot? you bet, but access control is a critical part of any database system.
    Chapter 5 of MySQL's Reference documentation specifically covers setting up access privileges.

  • Connecting to an XServer as root login

    Is there a way to login to an Xserver from an OSX workstation as root? Is there a setting on the XServer to let root connect to the Xserver from another computer.
    Thanks in advance.

    It should be no problem.
    I can't remember if you first need to enable the root user in NetInfo Manager when running OS X Server. Perhaps you want to check that on the XServe first. (NetInfo Manager -> Security -> Enable Root User)
    Otherwise, you should be able to log in as root from any other machine.

  • Do we need to create two zones for Two HBA for a host connected with SAN ?

    Hi,While creating Zone , Do we need to create two zones for Two HBA for a host connected with SAN ? Or a zone is enough for
    a host which having Two HBAs...We have two 9124s for our SAN fabric...
    As I found like one zone  below, I little bit confused that , if a host having two HBA connected with SAN, should I expect two zones for every Host?
    from the zone set, I gave the command show zoneset
    zone name SQLSVR-X-NNN_CX4 vsan 1
        pwwn 50:06:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN
        pwwn 50:06:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN
              pwwn 10:00:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN:NN
    But I found only one zone for the server's HBA2:by the same time in the fabric I found switches A & B showing the WWNs of those HBAs on its
    connected N port...Its not only for this server alone, but for all hosts..Can you help me to clarify on this please..that should we need to create one zone for
    one HBA?

    if u have two independent fabrics between hosts and storage, i think the below confs are recommended.
    Scenario 1:  2 HBAs single port each ( redundancy across HBA / Storage port )
    HBA1 - port 0 ---------> Fabric A ----------> Storage port ( FAx/CLx )
    HBA2 - port 0 ---------> Fabirc B ----------> Storage port ( FAy/CLy )
    Scenario 2: 2 HBAs of dual port each
    HBA1 - port 0 -------> Fabric A ---------> Storage port ( FAx/CLx )
    HBA2 - port0 ---------> Fabric A ---------> Storage port ( FAs/CLs )
    HBA1 - port 1 --------> Fabric A --------> Storage port ( FAy/CLy )
    HBA2 - port 1 ---------> Fabric B --------> Storage port ( FAt/CLt )
    the zone which is in your output is VSAN 1. if its a production VSAN, Cisco doesn't recomends to use VSAN 1 ( default vsan ) for production.

  • Storage 3320  single raid controller connecting with 02 Host Connection

    Dear ALL,
    I have 3320 with single raid controller, 5x HDD. I started to install it in a single-bus configuration to meet up with Host & External tape due to the following diagram:
    1) using a correct SCSI jumper cable to connect between the SCSI port "CH0" and the SNGL BUS CONF together
    2) Connecting the SCSI port labeled "CH1" with SCSI LVD Sun Server running Solaris 9 by SCSI cable
    3) Connecting the SCSI port labeled "CH3" with the external tape device by the SCSI cable.
    As a result, the Host Server can see the only Logical Drives and i could make the approciate partitions.
    But the problem is that the Server could not see the SCSI Tape device on this case (Tape device & cable are fine, tested ok before). I am wondering that if all connection above with connecting to Server & Tape device are ok here, then why is the tape device not being recongised under the Solaris ?? and even it's not being known under the OK prompt when i tried to run probe-scsi...
    regards
    Scott

    Please bypass all questions above, i would like to brief what i need to get helps as the below.
    Pls advice me how to get the external SCSI LVD tape device connected with SE 3320 raid Controller WHILE the Array 3320 was connected with Sun Server through the SCSI Port labeled "CH 1", the SCSI jumper cable connected between "CH 0" and the SNGL BUS CONF port in a single-bus configuration (By the way, Se 3320 raid is working well with Server).
    Thanks for any comments

  • Apple Remote Desktop Can't Connect to an Xserve running 10.5

    I was upgrading an Xserve with dual G5 processors from OS-X serve10.4 to 10.5. I've got a keyboard and monitor plugged into the Xserve. Apple Remote Desktop v3.5 can't connect with the Xserve. File sharing on the server is checked to allow it. The ARD ports seem to be open on the server. .When ARD scans our network computers, the Xserve says Access Denied next to it. When I try to connect it says something like "Unable to Verify." Any ideas what the issue might be?
    Thanks

    Well the File Sharing service would not have anything to do with remoting in.  Have you checked Remote Managed and checked to see if the accounts listed with access have everything checked off?
    Did the local admin password of the server change?  Can you ping the server?

  • No route to host:connect -- error in the struts-config.xml file

    hi all,
    acutally am doing a struts application in that i have written everything properly
    but getting this kinda no route to host:connect error
    my struts-config.xml file is like this...
    <struts-config>
    <form-beans>
    <form-bean name="myForm" type="MyForm">
    </form-beans>
    <action-mappings>
    <action path="/action"
                   name="myForm"
                   type="MyAction"
                   scope="request"
                   validate="true" >
                   <forward name="success" path="/success.jsp" />
                   <forward name="failure" path="/failure.jsp" />
         </action>
    </action-mappings>
    </struts-config>

    Hi Lee,
    I am working on Oracle ADF 10.1.2 and getting the same problem. The lines in my struts-config.xml are as below:
    <action path="/unitsView" className="oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataActionMapping" type="view.UnitsViewAction" name="DataForm" parameter="/unitsView.uix" unknown="false">
    <set-property property="modelReference" value="unitsViewUIModel"/>
    <forward name="unitsEditLink" path="/unitsEdit.do"/>
    </action>
    <action path="/unitsView" className="oracle.adf.controller.struts.actions.DataActionMapping" type="view.UnitsViewAction" name="DataForm" parameter="/unitsView.uix" unknown="false">
    <set-property property="modelReference" value="unitsViewUIModel"/>
    <forward name="unitsCreateLink" path="/unitsCreate.do"/>
    </action>
    I have two lines with [action path="/unitsView"]. The reason why is that I want the user to go to the form create screen for the create button and form edit screen for the edit button. If this does not work, it seems to mean that only a single screen can be used for create/edit functions. However, the ADF editor diagram looks perfectly to point to create.uix and edit.uix respectively.
    Please shed some light.
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Michael

  • Two logical hosts

    we currently have a sun solaris box with two logical hosts dev1 and dev2. The version for oracle is 8.1.7.2. In our listener and tnsnames file we have the host=dev1. When I connect to the database on my own PC I have a problem. When I connect to the database through dev1 I have no problems but when I try to connect as dev2 it just returns the message that there is no listener. I'm thinking this could be with the host definition in the listener and tnsnames file but does anyone know what it should be so I can connect through either logical host?? Thank you in advance.

  • RemoteApp with host connected to VPN

    Hi,
    I have a question regarding RemoteApp vs regular Remote Desktop Connection spiced with a VPN connection initiated from the host.
    We're in the process of moving from PCs to thin clients and we have set up an RDS farm (all servers are Windows Server 2012 R2, they are all in the same domain and same LAN) as follows:
    1 x RD Connection Broker + RD Licensing + RD Web Access
    3 x RD Session Host
    The users/clients will connect with regular remote desktop connection software (no Citrix or anything). Two of the RD SHs will be providing the users access to their normal applications, but some users also need to use remote resources which are only available
    via VPN connection, hence the third RD SH. (Currently it is solved by every user having a virtual machine on their PCs and connecting to the VPN from there.) We can't put the VPN connection to the two "regular" RD SHs, because we'll need more VPN
    connections later. The idea was to install and set up the VPN on the third host and publish the needed apps by RemoteApp to the users who use it.
    The problem:
    Once the host connects to the VPN the users are unable to launch the RemoteApp applications. If it's not connected then they can start them. The VPN client is a Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client that can only connect if the connection is initiated
    by a local user and no other user is currenty logged on (it's a remote side policy we can't change). If the users connect to the RD host with a regular remote desktop connection after the VPN is set up then it works as expected, they can launch the apps and
    work with them.
    The question:
    What is the difference between launching a RemoteApp and connecting to the RD host via RDP? How can I debug this RemoteApp connection problem?
    Please ask if something is not clear!
    Thank you!
    PS: If I'm not heading into the right direction and someone has a better idea, I'd be grateful to hear (read) it!

    Hello Vargabes7,
    You can configure a server that allows remote users to access resources on your private network over dial-up or virtual private network (VPN) connections. This type of server is called a remote access/VPN server. Remote access/VPN servers can also provide
    network address translation (NAT).  With NAT, the computers on your private network can share a single connection to the Internet. With VPN and NAT, your VPN clients can determine the IP addresses of the computers on your private network, but other computers
    on the Internet cannot.
    Before you configure your server as a remote access/VPN server, you should verify whether or not:
    The operating system is configured correctly.
    Your server is correctly configured for optimal security for your network needs.  Because your remote access/VPN server will connect your private network, the Internet, and your remote clients, you must make sure the server is secure. The security
    of your private network depends on the security of your remote access/VPN server. For more information, see
    Security information for remote access.
    This computer has two network interfaces, one that connects to the Internet and one that connects to the private network. The connection to the Internet must be a dedicated connection with enough bandwidth that VPN users can connect to your private network
    and users on your private network can connect to the Internet. The connection to computers on your private network must be made through a hardware device, such as a network adapter.
    All needed network protocols have been installed for your network interfaces. For more information, see
    Network interfaces.
    Windows Firewall is disabled on the server that you want to configure for remote access/VPN. You will configure the Basic Firewall feature of Routing and Remote Access during setup, which will serve in place of Windows Firewall.
    Internet Connection Sharing is disabled on the server that you want to configure for remote access/VPN.
    The Security Configuration Wizard is installed and enabled.
    To configure a remote access/VPN server, start the Configure Your Server Wizard by doing either of the following:
    From Manage Your Server, click Add or remove a role. By default, Manage Your Server starts automatically when you log on.
    To open the Configure Your Server Wizard, click Start, click
    Control Panel, double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click
    Configure Your Server Wizard.
    On the Configuration Options page, click Custom configuration and click
    Next. On the Server Role page, click Remote access/VPN server, and then click
    Next.
    Best regards,
    Sophia Sun

  • HT2275 Do I need to choose "Share this printer on the network" for printers that are not connected directly to my MacBook Pro? I have two HP printers connected to an Airport Extreme (WiFi turned off). I connect by WiFi to another Airport Extreme w cable t

    I have three Airport Extreme (AE) routers in my home network.
    The main AE is set up for wifi access. The other two are connected by ethernet cables to the main AE. My MacBook Pro connects to the network wirelessly through the main AE. The AE in my office has two HP printers connected to it by ethernet cables. I have a Kodak All-in-one that is connected by USB to my MacBook Pro.
    I reset my printer connections on my MacBook Pro and had to add all the printers back to my printer list. I don't know if I understand what the checkbox "Share this printer on the network" in the Print & Fax System Preferences window is for. My guess is that I don't need to share printers unless they are connected to my MacBook Pro by USB, so I should uncheck the "Share this printer on the network" box for the two HP printers that are connected to the AE. I print to them over the network, but they're not connected directly to any computer. I thought if my MacBook Pro wasset to share them and was shutdown, the printers might not be available to my Mac mini or Dell PC, which connect by ethernet to the office AE (which has the two printers connected to it).
    What should I do?
    For printers connected directly to a Mac (or PC) by USB, check the "Share this printer on the network" box? In my Sharing Preferences, I check "Share Printers."
    For printers connected to the AE by ethernet, UNcheck the "Share this printer on the network" box on my Macs (& PCs?) when I add the printers to my printer list? In my Sharing Preferences, I UNcheck "Share Printers?"

    Question is - will the 2 networks (using auto channel negotiations) exist well in the same house or will there be interference?
    Things will be fine since the AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme will automatically search for a good wireless channel. If you assign a separate name for the wireless network, then devices will need to log in separately to this network. The extending device will need to be configured in Bridge Mode.
    My suggestion would be to configure what is known as a "roaming" network in your question #2. In this case, you would assign the same wireless network name, security and password settings to the extending device and configure it in Bridge Mode.
    The advantage to #2 is that you will be able to walk your laptop from a location near the Time Capsule and as you move close to the extending device, the laptop will automatically switch to pick up the stronger signal from the extending AirPort.
    You are actually creating a separate network in #2, so you have the advantage of maximum bandwidth for both the TC network and the AirPort network.
    Question - does the Airport Express have to be directly connected to the TC or can that connected be through a switched network?
    I'm assuming that you are asking about an Ethernet switch here, correct?  The AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme can connect to the Ethernet switch, or directly back to a LAN port on the Time Capsule, whichever is easier to setup.
    Question 2 - assuming I can connect the Airport Express to the TC over a switched network, will "extending" the network using the Ethernet network still reduce my overall wireless bandwidth?
    Connecting the remote device using Ethernet is by far the best way to extend a wireless network because it maintains maximum bandwidth on the network. This is the way that any good commercial network is designed.
    Post back if you need any tips to get things setup.

  • How to add two different database connections on Model

    Hi,
    In my application, I need to create View Objects on different databases. So I need to add two different database connections on the Model.
    But it seems like Model can be connected to only one database. I tried adding another project to add the second db connection. But after I created a read-only View Object in the second project, it didn't generate corresponding data control in the Data Controls panel.
    Could anyone help me on this?
    Thanks!

    Do you mean adding the second project folder in ViewController->Project Properties->Libraries and Classpath?Yes, either that or: ViewController -> Project Properties -> Dependencies
    And I didn't see the first Model project in the ViewController classpath. Otherwise it wouldn't work. The first model project IS in 'classpath'. Here's how:
    ViewController -> Project Properties -> Dependencies
    I tried this and recreated the View Object. Still didn't generate the datacontrol. No idea why you had to recreate the VO.
    Is your VO in an application module inside the SECOND project?
    After you are sure that everything is in the ViewController's classpath, just try restarting JDeveloper.
    This is very basic. has to work.

    FCP, and all software on OSX, has a few different "preference" files (the extension is .plist), which store all your user settings. Each time you resize a window, change a setting, anything, this file is re-written. Kinda easy to see how they would become corrupt every now and then.
    -Close FCP
    -Navigate to User>Library>Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
    -Navigate to User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data and delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
    -Empty your trash
    Relaunch FCP and see if that worked.
    Download FCP Rescue to make this process easier in the future. When you have FCP running really smooth, open FCP Rescue and create a backup of your preference files. If it starts acting wanky, just run FCP Rescue and Restore your backup preferences. Works really slick, and it's free.
    EDIT: Or use the really simple explaination that X posted as I was typing.
