UCCE Outage due to loss of heartbeats

Hello all,
We are working on a UCCE  system version 9.0
An outage happened few hours ago and the system remained down until we restarted the Roggers services.
After troubleshooting some logfiles, we noticed the following error: "Connection broken due to loss of heartbeats".
Has anyone encountered a similar issue?  and what has to be done to fix it?
Thank you in advance,
Lara Noueir

ok, i think i misread your initial post...
so, the system was down, and the logs said connection broken :)
first thing to usually check is the network between both sides, public and private.. in case of instability and communication between both sides has issues (esp private), you see this error... in case public network is up, 1 side should become active and the other one out of service... the fact that both failed means maybe neither could know the status of the other, or communication with the PGs failed as well so roggers became out of service...
a restart of the roggers couldve caused all communications to be dropped and restarted, hence it worked again ... perhaps something was hanging with the components
usually, what I personally do is, i start by testing network communication between both sides during the system outage (both public & private)... i the stop side B and see if side A start working on its own again... otherwise, the restart fixes everything

  • Can you point me to the setting that reopens all word documents on startup after the laptop shuts down due to loss of power? I'm a mac book pro user.  Many thanks!

It'd be great if you could also advise on reopening safari windows on start up.  I'm after the setting that helps us restore everything only after shutdown due to loss of power and not all the time!  Thanks!

The option is in System Perferences on the General section (first Icone in Sys Perf) down near the bottom.
It's called "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening  apps".
But that may not be the setting your are looking for.
There is also a setting on the Shut Down and Restart windows that says "Reopen windows when logging back in".
But is you computer shutting OFF, "I Mean Really Shutting OFF", or just going into Sleep mode.
If it is really turning complete off then that setting is not saved. For that to work the computer has to be shut down or re-started properly allowing the OS to save that App state.

  • FIOS Outage due to storms - No technician appointment available until Sunday?

Storms knocked out power in the Richmond VA area on Monday.  Power has been restored in most areas but I have no FIOS TV or Internet - I called technical support and they walked me through a manual reboot of the main box but that did not resolve the problem so it appears to be an outside line issue.  The representative advised that the earliest tech appointment available is Sunday  - 6 days from the beginning of the outage??   I work from home and this is a major deal.  The power outages were fairly concentrated in areas so I wonder whether someone at Verizon is assessing and coordinating response as the power company does so that it is most efficient.  Is there anything I can do from my end to identify the exact issue?   The power company has contractors working in the area - is it possible for Verizon to use the same contractors?  Will I be credited for the outage period?    Help -  Desperate in Richmond

You don't go into the details as to why the account was suspended ... that background might be helpful since you're asking others for their opinion.  In general it sounds like the account was "deleted" at which point all mail is bounced because the address no longer exists -- but Verizon holds the name in reserve for some period of time to prevent someone from re-registering it in case an error was made and for some level of security, I suppose.
Anyhow ... on your commentary about not using an @verizon.net address as your primary address ... I think you will have this with many providers.  Hotmail, Yahoo, and Gmail all do this if you terminate the account (they do have a suspended account due to inactivity feature which operates differently, but pretty much do the same thing for deletions and such.   I don't use the @verizon.net account as my primary for a different reason however -- my primary address is provider agnostic.   I can move providers (although I'm quite happy with FiOS at the moment) -or- if at some point down the road I have to move out of Verizon territory, my email address will not need to change.  I used this little fact to my advantage when I moved from Comcast to Verizon a few years ago -- no one knew I changed providers because my email address didn't change.   Now .. I don't use one of the free services for email, I own my own domain name (about $10/year from the likes of GoDaddy) and have my domain hosted on the Google Apps tier (but even without that, GoDaddy will do basic forwarding for you of any email address to whatever mail account you're presently using).    Something to think about.

  • Repeated outages due to "stolen port"?

I've had my Verizon service for less than a month and I am now experiencing my SECOND Internet outage.  The first outage occurred less than 1 week after my service began.  After waiting 5 days for a service appointment, the service was restored and the technician told me that the outage was caused by my port being used by someone else in my building who just started service.  (Apparently, service techs assign ports in a common closet on my floor for all units.)  The technician told me that they have no way of knowing which ports are already in use by other customers.
When I arrived home on Labor Day from being out of town, I came home to internet service outage AGAIN!  And again, I have to wait another 5 days for a service appointment.
Have any of you experienced this "port stealing" phenomenon?  If so, is there any solution?  I don't want to experience outages each time someone in my building obtains new service or receives repair to existing service.
Extremely frustrated!!!  I heard good things about FIOS, but TWO outages in less than a month doesn't leave me optimistic.  I wasn't a fan of Comcast, but am considering going back to them.

    Still having issues with this.
I wrote the script that sets the policy banner. Basically just a simple script to dump a .rtf file to the /Lib/Security folder and do a chmod/chown. Once it's set it displays a disclaiimer that the user must agree to before continuing on to login. I've gone as far as deleting the .rtf file, but then it just displays the grey screen.
I've managed to Time Machine a copy of the problem and can easily replicate it by going back to that snapshot. In order for me to get my machine back up and running I had to restore to a snapshot over two weeks old.
    @Linc Davis - Any suggestions?

  • Production outage due to apache logs

On our production server we are observing that the apache tomcat is creating logs and it fills the disk space every 3 days. Once the disk is full it creates outage in production. Already we observed 2 outages because of this last week.We have to manually delete the logs files and restart tomcat services to make it work again. Is there anyway we can limit creating logs or automatically delete the logs created.

  • Install failed due to loss of power and Yosemite will now not go past login screen. Help!

I recently tried to install OS X Yosemite.  unfortunately during the install my laptop was unplugged and the installation failed mid way through.  Each time I start my mac I get to login screen and after logging in get an error message and told to restart and try again - which does not resolve the issue.  Guest login do work to the safari screen.  Any help hugely appreciated.

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

Sorry to hear that your son lost his phone.
To block the IMEI you should first contact the police to report it as lost/stolen. Then contact the operator to have the IMEI blocked.
If your son had MyXperia or Android device manager enabled you may be able to see where the phone is from myxperia.sonymobile.com and/or https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager

Contacts are not transferred between accounts. So, you're best option is to recover the password for your original account. For help with this, look here: https://support.skype.com/faq/FA109

  • IMac won't start due to power outage

A transformer blew here in town the other night, and we lost power.  Prior to that, there were two other power outages due to weather, but my iMac recycled and turned on fine after that.  Now it won't turn on at all.  Yes, I have read through all of the discussions prior to adding this discussion:
    1.  Unplugged the cord from the surge protector, and into a wall socket, and all other cord related suggestions
    2.  Tried resetting the PRAM
    3.  No sound, no fan, nothing when I press the button
    4.  Unfortunately my warranty has run out
    4.  Should I try to reinstall the memory card or should I go ahead and take it in?
    5.  Any other suggestions?  Help!
    Thanks in advance....

After the drive is erased you will have to reinstall everything. You certainly can reinstall Tiger from the OS X installer DVD. When the OS is reinstalled, all the bundled software is also reinstalled, including Safari and iTunes.
As to whether anything can be done short of reformatting, that depends on the tools you have. A heavy duty utility may be able to repair the files and the drive. But it depends on what is wrong with the drive. If the cause is simply 'over-crowding' or bad sectors on the drive, i.e. too much stored on the drive or physical damage of the drive, it is possible to retrieve some or even all of the data. But, as you have discovered, Disk Utility cannot do this.

  • 5508 snmp packet loss

We had a system outage due to power problems a few days ago, and now our WLC is showing short term packet loss when monitoring it using SNMP.  We also monitor it using ICMP, but that shows no packet loss.  I looked at the interface statistics on the WLC and all of the switches in between and there are no errors to be seen.  is there any way to troubleshoot this problem on the WLC?  I am more familiar with IOS than the WLC CLI.
    Thanks,
    Dan.

No, no wireless issues that we know of.  I wouldn't rule it out so fast, as our monitoring system is working fine.  All of the other devices it is monitoring have no packet loss.  Yes it could be something with the network, but why is it only this one device doing this....
Other then enabling and disabling the snmp option, and checking the interface the only other thing I know of trying is restarting it.
    Dan.

  • Outages, is there a way to find out

Is there a way (other than calling Verizon) to find out if we have an outage due to a storm?  I called at 6:30am ET this morning and the rep was very nice, as of then there was no outage reported and he said he'd call me back in 30 minutes on my cell to let me know if an outage is why we have no landline, internet or TV.  it's 8:50am ET and no call back.
Please can anyone tell me if there is anyway online to tell.
P.S. I'm so thankful at this point that I have AT&T cell service or I'd be stranded!
    Suzanne

There is a system status page but I've never seen it updated when an outage occurs.  So with that being said I'm sadly dissappointed to say that calling is the only way to find out.  You may want to call back and see if there are any other reported outages.  If so, inform the rep your service is down and begin troubleshooting the service.

  • Two System cluster panics due to SCSI reservation

We have two E2900's configured as a fail-over cluster. They use a Sun Store Edge JBOD as a storage device and a quorum device (running ZFS).
Sometimes, when we reboot the offline server (using init 6 or init 5 or reboot or shutdown), the online server panics due to loss of quorum. After some digging, we found that the SCSI reservation is pointing to the offline server instead of the online server. When this happens and the offline server is rebooted, the online server panics.
Is this normal? Is there any way for the online server to take possession of the quorum device when the resource group is brought online?
    Thanks
    -Ali

    Hi,
it is a bit surprising to me, that you are already deep in the system and analyzing reservations on LUNs using undocumented commands. There are several possibilities why things go wrong:
    a) There is a bug. So the best thing to do is to update and install patches. Sorry to say that, but that often helps.
b)Someone fiddles around with the reservations. The fact that this discussion centers around reservations on disks and not on the generic problem of "loss of quorum" and how to analyze this, makes me nervous.
As I said earlier, I would start with a fresh quorum device (and if you have a JBOD I am sure this will offer many more LUNs to your cluster nodes, and you could just one of them), remove the old one and then keep your and everyone else's fingers off the commands in /usr/cluster/lib/sc.
As a last question: What does clq status or on older systems scstat -q tell us?
    And now I'll be quiet!
