UCS C 220 server teaming on two core switches.

Hello Everyone,
I am using UCS C 220 M3 server and it has 8 HDD. I created RAID for redundancy and installed call manager custom software on it. Now in the network topology there are two core switches. I connected the UCS server on first core switch from Gig port 1 of the server.
Now client is Demanding to connect on other core switch also. I am aware of the concept of teaming and i did it many times on microsoft server but either on the single switch or on the VSS system
Here the scenario is core switch 1 and cor switch 2 are two seperate device. Indeed there is a ether channel between them but these switches are not virtual.
Kindly suggest the solution how i can achieve the redundancy for UCS 220 server.
Thanks in Advance.
Please reply.

Hello again, Im stuck
This is what I have done. I have created the vPC between my esx host and my two nexus 5000 switches, but it doesnt seem to come up:
S02# sh port-channel summary

        I - Individual  H - Hot-standby (LACP only)

  switchport mode trunk
  switchport trunk allowed vlan 20,27,30,50,100,500-501
  spanning-tree port type edge trunk

  switchport mode trunk
  switchport trunk allowed vlan 20,27,30,50,100,500-501
  spanning-tree port type edge trunk
  channel-group 4 mode active
Im unsure what I must configure on the cisco 240M3(esx host) side to make this work. I only have the two default interfaces(eth0 and eth1) on the vic-1225 installed in the esx host, and both have the vlan mode is set to TRUNK.
Any ideas on what I am missing?

  • HSRP core switches

    Hello,
If i have two core switches running HSRP that have a 4 links trunk connected between two the two core switches.  My question on that trunk that connects the two core switches what kind of data goes thru from one core to another core.  I know HRSP sends Hello packets for in case if one core goes down the other becomes active however does data from one server connected to core 1 go thru the trunk link to communicate to another server connected on core 2 or is just for HSRP?
    Thanks,

A host connected to core 1 but with its HSRP gateway on core 2, if sending to a host not on its subnet, would send it (at least) first packet to the HSRP gateway on core 2.  Whether this might use a trunk between core 1 and core 2 would depend on your L2 topology.
You asked about a server also on core 2, and the what I wrote applies, but it would also apply if that second server was also on core 1 (again, on a different subnet).
I wrote this applies to the first packet, but to be more precise it's the first packet that's first to the destination.  Depending on your configuration, and L3 topology, the HSRP gateway on core 2 could send a redirect to your sending server on core 1 to redirect its packets to a different gateway on core 1 (for example, using mHSRP).

  • Span to virtual server on UCS from core switch.

    Hi,
I need to forward traffic from our core switch a 3750 stack, to a vmware guest which sits on a UCS chassis. This is enable VOIP call recording. How can I configure our traffic to be sent to the vnic of our call recoding server on the UCS chassis?
    Thanks

    Hi Lee,
I think you have to be a bit more specific about what you are trying to achieve. My feeling says this is more switch related than Cisco UCS. But let us know, maybe we are able to help you.

Using NIC Teaming and a virtual switch for Windows Server 2012 host networking!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mOuoIWzmdE
Hi thanks for reading. Now I may well have my terminology incorrect here so I will try to explain  as best I can and apologies from the start.
    It’s a bit of both Hyper-v and Server 2012R2.
I am setting up a lab with Server 2012 R2. I have several physical network cards that I have teamed called “HostSwitchTeam” from those I have made several Virtual Network Adaptors such as below
    examples.
New-VMSwitch "MgmtSwitch" -MinimumBandwidthMode weight -NetAdaptername "HostSwitchTeam" -AllowManagement $false
Add-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Vswitch" -SwitchName "MgmtSwitch"
Add-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Cluster" -SwitchName "MgmtSwitch"
When I install Hyper-V and it comes to adding a virtual switch during installation it only shows the individual physical network cards and the
HostSwitchTeam for selection.  When installed it shows the Microsoft Network Multiplexor Driver as the only option.
Is this correct or how does one use the Vswitch made above and incorporate into the Hyper-V so a weight can be put against it.
Still trying to get my head around Vswitches,VMNetworkadapters etc so somewhat confused as to the way forward at this time so I may have missed the plot altogether!
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi P.J.E,
    >>I have teams so a bit confused as to the adapter bindings and if the teams need to be added or just the vEthernet Nics?.
    Nic 1,2
    HostVMSwitchTeam
    Nic 3,4,5
             HostMgmtSwitchTeam
    >>The adapter Binding settings are:
    HostMgmtSwitchTeam
    V-Curric
    Nic 3
    Nic 4
    Nic 5
    V-Livemigration
    HostVMSwitch
    Nic 1
    Nic 2
    V-iSCSI
    V-HeartBeat
Based on my understanding of the description , "HostMgmtSwitchTeam and
HostVMSwitch " are teamed NIC .
You can think of them as two physical NICs (do not use NIC 1,2,3,4,5 any more , there are just two NICs "HostMgmtSwitchTeam and
    HostVMSwitch").
    V-Curric,
    V-Livemigration , V-iSCSI ,
V-HeartBeat are just VNICs of host  (you can change their name then check if the virtual switch name will be changed )

  • Dual-homed server to two Cat4948 switches

    Hello everyone,
I have a picture above which I want to realize. The main point is a dual-homed server connected to two switches.
At server OS needed to configure NIC teaming which uses LACP. But how I can do it at Catalyst 4948?
Which technology I able to use to multi-switch etherchannel?
If I need one more link between Cat4948, then I can do.

The exact load sharing options available to you will probably depend on the server type / vendor. The settings are applicable to the Network Adapters but you usually use the configuration utility provided by the respective vendor. I would suggest you do a quick google search on your particular server model. An example is:

  • UCS C series server whether accessible from Linux prompt

    Hi UCS Team,
I have UCS c series server.
I am able to check the Fan, power, cooling and equipment and hardware status using the CIMC.
In CIMC I configured the SNMP and check it using MG soft Mib browser tool.
The CIMC query the BIOS for getting the information.
Similarly is there any process to get the BIOS information from the Linux.
Correct me If I am wrong anywhere.
My requirement is to query the UCS C server BIOS information using Linux-SNMP without CIMC.(direct access of BIOS from Linux)
Can I install a Linux supported SNMP client and supported MIBS to query the BIOS level information of UCS using SNMP MG soft Mib browser?

    Hi Keny,
I tried to powercycle both servers (c260M2 and C460M2) but still no discovered server and also no logg.
    I checked
Rack Server Discovery Policy == immediate
Rack management Connecton Policy == Auto Achnowledged
    Chassis/Fex Doscovery Policy == 2 Link and Port-Channel (As I installed 2232PP I moved to Port Channel)

2232PP run on same as FI
I also have a connected 5108 with IOM 2104 running on 2.1(1e) Version.
CIMC Version of C260M2 and C460M2 will be checked tomorrow when my kolleague is in the datacenter.

  • CE520 server teaming?

    Hi,
I'm trying to get a Catalyst Express 520G switch to form a team with a server but no traffic is flowing.
If the two ports connecting to the server are set as switch ports you can set up the etherchannel and it shows as up on both ends but I can't get traffic to go over the link.
The server is a OSX 10.6 box so is using LACP bonding and it happily sees the link as up but you can not ping the server.  We have similar set ups on 3560 switches which work OK so I'm not sure if it is a limitation of the CE500s or I have the wrong smartport or other setting.  Though from the docs the only smartport that can make an etherchannel is the switch one. Any chance of getting a server team role?
    Help :-)
    Thanks
    Nick

    Hi,
    thanks for the prompt reply.
The 3560 config for one bond is..
    benefitz-sw2#sh run int gi 0/1
    Building configuration...
    Current configuration : 146 bytes
    interface GigabitEthernet0/1
    description etherchannel link 1
    switchport mode access
    channel-group 1 mode active
    spanning-tree portfast
    end
    benefitz-sw2#sh run int gi 0/2
    Building configuration...
    Current configuration : 146 bytes
    interface GigabitEthernet0/2
    description etherchannel link 1
    switchport mode access
    channel-group 1 mode active
    spanning-tree portfast
    end
    benefitz-sw2#sh run int po 1
    Building configuration...
    Current configuration : 55 bytes
    interface Port-channel1
    switchport mode access
    end
    benefitz-sw2#
I did some more testing and found I can get the MAC address in the ARP table for the bond but no response on ping or open ports. So maybe the problem is a service order problem so I'll cehck that one out further. Is there anyway to find out exactly how the port is set with the switch smartport setting? I'll read ovr the doc you mention as well.
    Thanks
    Nick

  • How can I make a server differ between two or more clients?

How can I make a server differ between two or more clients?
The clients can connect and talk to the server fine, but how can I make the server talk to one, two or all clients? i.e. what would be a good way to implement this?
Currently, the server listens for connections like this:
    while (listening) {
    try {
    new ServerThread(this, serverSocket.accept()).start();
I guess one way would be to add the ServerThreads to a Hashtable with the client ID as key, and then get the ServerThread with the proper client ID, but this seems unnecessary complicated. Any ideas?

Complicated was perhaps the wrong word, I should have
written something like it doesn't "feel" right. Or is
this a common and good way to solve communication
between a server and multiple clients?Thats pretty much how I do it. I normally use an array or ArrayList of Sockets instead of HashTable, with [0] being the first player etc.... Then you can communicate with exactly who you want. If you want to send bytes to all of them, just send the same thing to each socket individually (or is there a better way to do this?).

  • Optimising for two cores on an older macbook

I use an older macbook with snow leopard (not sure how old, but it has two cores) and I'm trying to get the most out of it as I can, because at times things run slowly (ever since I got SL, iTunes has been running prohibitavely slowly, Safari tends to freeze every so often and I use Sibelius, which can slow things down a lot during playback). I noticed that only the left side of my computer got hot when I was using it. I don't know much about the anatomy of a macbook, so would this be because that's where both cores are? Only the left fan tends to run (I use an application that allows me to control fan preferences), so it appears that only the left side is doing much. Now, I understand that the right side is probably all taken up by the CD drive, but if it isn't, would there be any way of fiddling with the software to enable both cores to be working away so things aren't so slow?

RAM is Random Access Memory.  It looses its contents when you shutdown your Mac or loose power.
Storage, or for you, is your hard disk.  Some newer systems have Solid State Disks (like a very fast USB Thumb drive ).  It remembers its contents even when there is no power.
Virtual Memory is a trick that allows the computer to pretent it has more RAM than really exists, by allowing parts of a program's active data to be written to disk when not being used (paged out) and read back into RAM when it is needed again (paged in).  You pay a price in time while waiting for the much slower disk to pageout/pagein data.  This is a very simplified description of Virtual Memory, as it is far more complex and has uses beyond just allowing a small amount of RAM to run much larger programs.
As den.thed says, if you can add more RAM it is the best way to improve the performance of your current system.  Check out Curcial.com and MacSales.com as 2 well recommended Mac RAM vendors.  You can get instructions on how to replace the RAM from these sites and iFixIt.com
Another option is to consider the age of your Mac and decide is trying to improve its performance is worth it vs just buying a new Mac.  Adding RAM is much cheaper, but will it make you happy, or will you then go out and buy a new Mac shortly afterwards?
Another performance enhancement that may NOT be worth the investment, would be replacing the current slow hard disk drive with a solid state disk drive, or getting a conversion kit that replaces the DVD drive with a solid state disk.  The solid state disk would make loading programs faster, as well as any pagein/pageout activity would be faster.  But the cost is such that you are starting to get closer to the cost of a new Mac which would come with lots more RAM and much faster CPU.  So you have to figure whether such an investment is really worth it.

Threads are automatically spread over the available cores, as the OS sees fit.
is there any package which support parallel computing??Java does so without any external libraries.
can we do this by using java.util.concurrency pakage??yes
One question mark per question is plenty, thank you.

  • Can Sharepoint 2013 Server Team Site page layout be changed to have the same page layout as Sharepoint's previous version?

    Hello Community
Using WS2012 and Sharepoint 2013 Server you can add a
    Calendar to a page.
The problem is that Sharepoint 2013 Server's default "Team Site"
page is not setup with a box on the far right of the page and 2 boxes in the
middle (one above the other) where you could insert web parts into
    those boxes.
So the question is when you use Sharepoint 2013 Server "Team Site"
page (if not is there any other site page) where you can have a box
on the far right of the page and 2 boxes in the middle of the page
(one above the other) so that you can insert web parts into those boxes
(as the previous version of Sharepoint's default page was setup) and if so
    how?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

    Hi Shabeaut,
Based on your description, my understanding is that you want to change the text layout for the home page of the team site as it was in SharePoint 2010.
If I misunderstood, please feel free to correct me.
I recommend to edit the home page and then click Text Layout in the ribbon on Format Text tab, then select the text layout you need.
    Best regards,
    Victoria

  • Unable to enable HBA Card in the Cisco UCS c22 m3 server

    Hi All,
I need your help desperately to setup the cisco ucs c22 m3 server in our environment. We have a C22 M3 server and I did the basic config of CIMC and we have a LSI megaraid controller connected to one of the PCIe and the other PCIe has a dual port 8gb HBA card. We installed the RAID and we can see the LSI Megaraid controller. But I cannot see the HBA card and there is noo light near the card. I hope I need to enable something so that the card should work. I tried enabling in the BIOS menu I can see the PCIe slot is enabled but I am unable to see the HBA functioning. Couldyou pleasehelp me to resolve this.

    Dear Manuel,
Thanks for replying me. See the answers for your queries.
What kind of HBA card are you trying to use?
If I am not wrong we are using "Qlogic QLE2562, 8Gb dual port Fibre Channel HBA".
How many CPUs do you have installed on your server?
I opened the box and saw only 1 CPU installed. But the solution is given by CISCO pre sales. We have 2 PCIe slots configured. One for LSI RAID controller and the other with dual port Fibre Channel HBA.
    Awaiting your reply.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Server is firing two queries for grandtotal ?

I have a report and added grand totals to it.
I checked the queries in session monitor before and after adding the grand total.
previously, single query was sent to database by the server.
but after adding grand totals, server is sending two queries to database and my report performance went down.
Please suggest how to avoid this.

    Hi,
OBIEE wil always fire a seperate query for Grand total. This is expected behaviour. You should look at the other ways to improve the performance of report like putting some default filters so that OBIEE does not have to prform sum on huge data.

  • Cisco UCS C210 M1 server certified for Unified Communications

    Hello:
Our VAR is telling us that HP and Cisco are splitting up.  We're an HP shop today and the MCS 7800-H series routers were a perfect fit.  Our VAR is now telling us we have to go with the rebranded IBM systems.  BUT I would like to avoid the IBM servers.  And the Cisco servers look attractive.  But I've been unable to determine if the Cisco UCS C210 M1 server is certified for various Unified Communications applications (Communications Manager, Unity, Cisco Emergency Responder, ICM, CVP, etc.).
Has anyone heard of any Unified Communications deployments on UCS hardware?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Mr. Schroeder:
Thank you for the information.  Timing is everything.  We'll likely have to order our equipment in May of this year.  I'd love to start getting Cisco UCS hardware in.  Oh well... maybe next year!

  • Using single core is as hot as two core

    Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can explain this to me? I switch my MBP to using only 1 core, but the core temperature remains the same as when it's using 2 core. Does this make sense? I would expect the operation temperature would drop maybe 10-20 degrees, but it remains hovering on 80+ celsius.
[ ps: my MBP fan's blown and the repair would take up to 3 weeks. I'm trying to live with only an external notebook cooler for a couple of months because I'm at a critical stage of work and can't be without my computer]

this is totally normal. first of all, two cores work in a more efficient way. when one is disabled, the other one has to work harder!
you can try latest speedit kernel module (http://www.increw.com/speedit.html) . it will decrease the cpu freq. to 1 Ghz which will drop the temperature down a lot. you can also use external fan for cooling it.
