UITableViewCell draws its text white a white background

Has anyone had the problem where UITableViewCell draws its text with a white background, like this:
This is a standard UITableViewCell in which I have specified has a background view, like this:
cell.backgroundView = [[[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:cell.bounds] autorelease];
cell.backgroundView.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithWhite:0.9 alpha:1.0];
That's what's drawing gray. But the text label drawn by UITableViewCell draws with a white background obscuring a portion of the background view.
I've tried numerous things like setting the cell and its content view to use clearColor as their background. The issue, I believe, is that the UILabel that UITableViewCell uses needs to have its background color set to clearColor. But there's no way to access that through the UITableViewCell API.

As I mentioned, when I used a built in template, like contemporary, it worked too.  The problem only happened with the IBA that I was given.  Perhaps the previous owner of the file had accidentally chosen Format/Advanced/Define Default Glossary Style when they had some white on white displayed and caused all the formatting for the glossary to be the same.  I was able to fix it using that menu path.
I'm not sure what fixing it in the "source file" means.  I was trying to fix it in the IBA file.  Not sure where else I would have fixed it.

  • White text on a white background when adding glossary definitions

I inherited an existing IBA file so I'm not sure how the styles were defined (and I've never really played around with custom styles or layouts) but I was hoping it wouldn't matter.  The main color scheme is a dark background and light (white) text.  Similar to the built in template 'contemporary'.
When I add a glossary term, i have my definitions in a separate (word) document.  I copy/paste from the document into the glossary term area.  When I paste, it's pasting white text.  Background color of the glossary definition window is also white (not sure I can control that).  My definition document is black text.
When I test the book, the little glossary dialog pops up when I touch/click on a word but again, it's white text on a white background.
Can I change the background color of the glossary dialog?
Is there a way to change all my glossary definitions from white text to black text?
When I create a test book using 'contemporary', which is also white text on a dark background, it does not have this problem.

You can condense multiple clips that are stacked above each other into a nest. The nest appears as a single clip in the Timeline. If you need to modify the individual clips inside after you have created the nest, it can be expanded again by double clicking it.

I udate my os to 10.6.7 and since then my Pages have color problems. The text is not visible (white on white background) it does'nt help to change the text color nor background color. I just download the recent trail version of Iworks and install it. The first document I opened it was ok. When I open the second one the problem appear again and stayed. Pls help

This behavior was described many times.
In every occurrence, the operating system was an uncompleted one resulting of the use of Software Update to update the operating system to 10.6.2, 10.6.3, 10.6.4, 10.6.5, 10.6.6, 10.6.7.
In such cases, the solace was to apply a combo updater.
As you are using 10.6.7, download and apply the combo 10.6.7 :

After that, run Software Update which will urge you to apply :

  • Text appearing as white on white on a webpage?

A friend of mine created this website http://www.confinementmovie.com/ but for me in Safari (and Firefox) most of the text appears as white on a white background (i.e. it can't be read unless highlighted with a mouse). He said this isn't true for other people he's shown it to. Is this a problem of some settings on my computer/browsers, or a problem in the html of his site?

Thanks for checking! From further information I have received elsewhere, evidently the site was created in Microsoft Word and only displays properly in Internet Explorer.

  • Printing black & white slides without backgrounds to PDF?

I would like to take my Keynote presentations and export them in PDF with the text converted to black (from grey) and the backgrounds removed. I currently have a dark background graphic that I made extremely opaque so it's light and fades behind the text. I just want simple high-contrast output suitable for printing.
I couldn't find options in either exporting to PDF or print to PDF which would allow me to do this? When I chose the option to not include backgrounds, instead of getting just a blank background I got the original dark background graphic that in my presentation is opaque.
Is there a quick way to simply get Keynote slides into black and white with no background graphics?
    Thanks!

I just realized my terms were off... the "background" is just a gradient fill, which I can get rid of with the Keynote print option to not print backgrounds. The "background" that I'm having trouble with is the graphic I put in my slides and made opaque which I then put text on top of.
If there was a simple way to simply print my slides to grayscale with text converted to black that would be perfect.

  • White widget text no longer white

I'm experiencing a weird problem with my widgets. Anywhere that white text should appear, it now appears black with a faint outline where the normally white text is antialiased against the darker background color. This affects all the widgets with white text on a dark background, such as the calendar and weather.
Does anyone have an idea what the fix is for this kind of problem?

Adwiz, that's a very common Dashboard problem that has to do with a font conflict, specifically: you probably have a PostScript version of "Helvetica Neue" installed in ~/Library/Fonts. Dashboard uses the Apple-installed version of Helvetica Neue, so if you happen to have another version, it causes the problem you are seeing. The only solution is to disable your version of that font, or to use a font managing program to assign Apple's font to Dashboard, and your custom font for whatever program may have installed it.

  • ITunes stuck with White on Gray Background

I need help with iTunes please.  Since I installed Lion, my iTunes switched to white on gray background, and its so hard seeing my lists on the sidebar.  I've tried going under the preferences and choosing "dark" but that doesn't do a thing.  Once I click an item it turns black luckily but I've ejected my iPhone accidently while syncing a number of times which the last two times caused it to wipe everything and I had to enter all the info back on from a backup
I updated everything before Lion and iTunes didn't do this;  just after Lion.
Any ideas on how to to change it back?
    It would be much appreciated!
I've attached a screen shot just in case, for a visual
    Thanks!
p.s. I went through the discussions already on here, i saw a similar one but it was a university one and it had to do with iTunes store not a personal iTunes account and it was about 3mos ago and there was no resolution...apologies in advance if I'm not posting in the correct place.

Spoke with apple support as my iMac was still under applecare.  The answer is a corrupted file.  Solution is:
Delete the Caches folder in the user Library and in the Preferences folder, next
delete the com.apple.itunes.plist file.  Restart the computer.
To locate the user Library folder which is now hidden in Lion:
in the Finder hold down the option key while clicking on the Go menu in the finder.  Select Library Folder This opens the Library folder.  Navigate to the above folder and file.
    This worked for me.

  • Exporting to pdf from Pages 9 turns all text color to white

I made a 34 page document for someone, exported to pdf and sent it to him. He called me asking why all the text came out white. The only reason you could see the text is because I had a tinted background on every page. Tried several times and the black comes out white in the pdf document. Any one had that problem before?

    I'm using Acrobat pro 9.
I have been using Pages and exporting to pdf for more than a year now and never had this problem. The file I'm working with is a word document sent to me by my customer that I copied and pasted into Pages. I found a way around it by doing the following: I clicked print. In the print window, there is a scroll down button that gives the option of saving to pdf or to postcript. Saving to pdf gave me the same problem, so I saced to postscript. I opened the postcript file withpreview and from there exported to pdf to get it to work finally.
This is what the file should look like
This is what I get when I export from the file menu

  • In iTunes, my printing is white and the background is black, How do I change it back to white printing on a black background.

In my iTunes store, the printing is white and the background is black and I have forgotten how to change it back to black printing on a white background? I know that it is a simple answer, but right now I cannot think of it.
Also, what is the "other" when you are syncing an ipad in itunes and in my case the other is more than half of my 64Gb. How do I find out what it is and then get rid of it if I want to?
    Thanks

    Hi gramie47,
Sorry to hear that didn't resolve the issue.
I checked online for issues printing from the Internet, found a couple of things you can try. Most likely it is a setting that needs to be changed in the browser settings, since the printer prints fine from the computer.
From Internet Explorer, go to File, Page setup, Remove check from "Printer background color and images" if checked, or vise versa, to see if that helps.
Here is another document you may take a look at.

    Without a link, it's anybody's guess.
It could be a problem the video rendering itself.  Which software did you use?
Did you export to the 3 file types -- MP4, OGG and WEBM to support all browsers?
Does your web server support those 3 MIME file types?

  • WORD doc x files show lettering changed from black to white with black background, colors have black background

WORD doc x files received open with black lettering changed to white with black backgrounds. Color images have black backgrounds. There is no issue for non MAC users. How can I open the document as sent? Thank you.

Pages (any version) is not a word clone, and may not digest Word documents as accurately as their native Microsoft application. Pages v5 is also far from feature/functionality complete, and that only compounds this issue.
Suggest you download/install the free LibreOffice and open the Word documents with it. Do the artifacts persist in LibreOffice?

  • Is there a way to bring out the white in the background?

I'm using Final Cut Pro version 5.1.4
I'm shooting a spec spot, with the same lighting set up as the popular Mac Vs PS spots...
Two actors against a white wall. The white wall we shot against has some color variations on it, due to lighting temperatures... Is there a way to key just the white area behind the actors and bring up the white in the background without over brighting the actors?
    thanks!!

Find the luma key and try that. Or chroma key set to white.

If you've had it for less than a year, then it's still under warranty.  Take it to an Apple store or an authorized service facility.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434
