UME password security rule

Hi all,
I use SAP EP 7.0 SPS10
I would like to configure a UME password security rule with the following content:
password must contain at least 2 digits and 4 letters.
How can I set this by means of the UME security policy.
Any help is really appreciated.
Regards Karin

Hi Pankaj,
thanks for your answer.
In the documentation you mentioned I find exactly what I need
Snippet from documentation (in bold marked what I need)
<i>Define the rules governing what a password looks like.
This includes:
The maximum and minimum length of passwords
Whether an old password can be part of a new password
<b>The number of alphabetic and numeric characters required</b>
The number of upper and lower case letters required
The number of special characters required
Whether the user ID can be part of the password
How often a user can use the same password (the number of past passwords saved)
If there are any passwords that are not allowed.</i>
But I don't see which UME property should be used for those rules.
The only thing I found was
ume.logon.security_policy.password_alpha_numeric_required
Minimum number of alphabetic and numeric characters in passwords.
-> according to the documentation a 2 means, at least 2 digits and at least two letters
-> in my case I would like to define the following rule:
a password must contain at least 2 digits and 4 letters
I do not see how I can configure this

  • Failed to decrypt UME session security password from secure storage

    Hi,
I log on to B2B appication. I go to catalog. I can not see any price in the product list.
Logs and Traces show these errors:
    1. Failed to decrypt UME session security password from secure storage.
    2. Something went wrong determining values from application configuration. Check the log file entries obove. The session authentication will be skipped.
How I can solve these issues?

Also note that if you do import an XCM scenario from another engine this will need to be re-entered as the passwords woudl not be coppied.

  • Bringing back an old password validation rule

    Good afternoon
On our old 4.6C system, there was a password validation rule that stated the first three characters of the password cannot occur in the same order in the user ID. This rule was removed when we upgraded to ECC 6.0
While the users hated that rule, that rule was a SOX requirement at our company and I would like to have it back. Before I resort to programming user exits, is there a way to reactivate or at least simulate that rule? I cannot use USR40 because not only does it effect all users on the system, it only works on the second logon and not at validation time.
If programming user exits like EXIT_SAPLSUSF_001 is my only option, where can I get the password at logon time? From my understanding, SAP does not store this in a system value or even a global variable or table to prevent the recording of passwords. While this is a valid security reason, it would solve the resurrection of this password role through programming.
    Please advise.
    Kind Regards
    Moggie

    Hi Moggie,
    > Pending the result of the contract programmer's research, placing a 3 character prefix of each new user ID in table USR40 is looking like the best option, though I do hate to place that kind of check for all user IDS when only one ID really needs that validation rule.
A problem with that will soon arise when you have for example 10000 user ID's and want the users to have the opportunity to use strong pass-phrases (not just pass-words). Additionally, the passwords are now case-sensitive but the user ID is not. A pass-phrase for users such as "The_D0g_&_Cat_r_FAT" would go undetected even if you have any "THERON's" in the system, but why should it not be allowed? It's a good one!
Users will soon notice that only passwords which are very cryptic can be used, and they will start writing them down on Post-It's.
While that is going on... the "real sinners" who dish out weak or the same initial / reset passwords (like "INIT1234") or administrate the users for whom passwords don't change (like "RFC4PROD") will not have any further "idiot-proof" controls as it is only a warning, which is intentional.
    > If the passwords are cycled regularly, adhere to profile values in the instance that encourage strict password rules, and are kept private and secure, it is not a compliance issue to the auditors.
    There you have it.
Tell them that. Even if they do use the first 3 bname characters as the first 3 CAPS_ON password characters, they won't be able to do it for long anyway if the password rules are appropriate...
Incase you are not aware of it, please also take a look at (and search here and SAP notes for) infos about instance parameter login/password_compliance_to_current_policy (e.g. SAP Note 862989). With appropriate minimum password rules (not overkilled - because the system must still be able to generate compliant wizard-passwords!), you will catch the bigger risks than any one 'BSM?????'s in there somewhere....
    Cheers,
    Julius

According to the manual you need to check "Configuring Password Protection" in Oracle Database Security Guide
In the security guide http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/network.111/b28531.pdf, section 3-9/p61, you'll see you need to alter the script UTLPWDMG.SQL. You''l find the script in ORA_HOME/rdbms/admin.
You'll need to change the script to your own liking.

Yesterday I uploaded Yosemite 10.10.2 thinking it was fixed by now. In Mail, my POP account gets this error message: Mail cannot send your password securely to the server. You can remove this restriction in the Accounts preferences by setting “Allow insecure authentication”, which could put your password at risk.
My provider says it's an Apple issue. The gmail accounts are logging in fine. Any help? Something simple?
    Thanks anyone.

Thanks Csound1. That did work and Mail was able to connect to the internet. Green light status. Is it because of my provider that I may never have had secure connections? Is that an Apple thing or do PCs have the same issues? Appreciate your help. I'll research insecure connections as I am ignorant of the consequences.

Updated my AppleID account info.  Under password security shows an email address to be used to receive email with new password settings.  I need to update that email address, how do I do that?  Thanks!

Thanks for the help Niel.  I couldn't change the rescue email address (an address that no longer exists and is therefore useless) until I could correctly answer the security questions.  After numerous guesses, finally got them right.  Was then presented with the option to change the rescue email address. Guess the only other option was to have Apple Support make the change or reset my account info.  Have made note of the correct answers so this won't happen again.   Thanks for the fast response!!

  • When password security-setting dialogue box is opened, the bottom can't be seen or moved

Using Acrobat XI Pro on my Dell PC, I was trying to add password protection to the document.  When I click on the "encrypt with password" button, the password security-setting dialogue box pops up, and I can enter the password.  However, the bottom of the page is not visible and I can't move it to click the "ok" button.  Any suggestions?

Which Acrobat XI Pro are you using? I think you experience the same problem that was reported on this forum in the past. I believe this problem was fixed in one of the recent versions (11.0.07??). Upgrade to the latest version and the problem should go away.

  • Downloaded file won't open when password-secured

Since moving from Acrobat 8 to 9, my passworded pdf file will not open once it is downloaded from the server.  My file was created as an .xls file in openoffice, then converted to pdf.  Password security was then set in Acrobat 9 pro (mac).  I works fine when not passworded.  Is there something I can do to regain the security functionality?  Note: the problem only occurs AFTER uploading to the server; it works as it should on my computer before that.

Thanks - I tried do that but I didn't see any appropriate forum - the choices were too specific.  Any chance you could point me to the correct one to deal with this issue?

  • Password security - set permissions for different users

I am using Abobe Acrobat 9 Pro.
In the HELP menu, there is a security section in the contents, In the overview, it states the following:
"Each security method offers a different set of benefits. However, they all allow you to specify encryption algorithms, select the document components to encrypt, and set permissions for different users."
I would like to know how you can set permissions for different users using Password Security.
I am the only one in the company who has Acrobat 9 Pro and all others have Adobe Reader 8.
I have created a PDF file in Acrobat 9, this file is accessible to anyone with Abobe Reader. I would like to set different permissions for different users.
