UML Activity Diagram

Hello everybody,
Is there a way to add events and interrupts in an activity diagram in jDeveloper? I already saw that there is no way to draw swimlanes.
Thanks,
Manuel

Hi,
As far as I know, the UML diagrams was released in Visio 2013 Professional. It is introducing all new shapes that look great and allow you to create modern, professional diagrams. The UML diagrams match the UML 2.4 standard, and templates are available for
the five most popular diagram types: Class, Sequence, Use Case, Activity and State.
http://blogs.office.com/2012/10/22/professional-flexible-beautiful-uml-content/
Thus, if we still need to use UML 2.2 template which include:  Signal Send and Signal Receive shapes, please try the workaround:
Copy the "UML Activity Stencil" from Visio 2010 and load it in Visio 2013.

  • Copying a UML activity diagram from 1 database to another within BPA

Is it possible to copy a UML activity diagram from one database to another database within BPA, there does not need to be a link between the original and copied diagrams? This is possible by Export/Import.
Edited by: [email protected] on 04-Mar-2009 08:34

I haven't tried this specifically with the UML Activity diagram but generally yes all models can be exported as XML and imported into another BPA database. If they are on the same server you may also use the merge capability to move models, objects and folders between DBs. For merge, you have to have the same folder structure in both DBs and and drag the thing you want to merge and drop it on the DB name.

  • UML Activity Diagram does not have Signal (Send and Receive) Shapes

I'm using Visio 2013 Professional and I created a new UML Activity Diagram.
On the left, on the UML Activity Stencil, I have only 9 shapes. I cannot find the Signal Send and Signal Receive shapes. I have searched on the other UML diagram types but can't find them.

  • Selecting Behavior property of the Call Behavior Action on a UML Activity Diagram

I have 16 projects in my UML solution, and I need to be able to select a Behavior in the Call Behavior Action property that is in one Activity Diagram, from a list of Activity Diagrams that are located in different projects, but still in the same overall
Solution.  Currently, it looks like I can only select Behaviors from within the same project.

This is related to TFS.  I am using Visual Studio 2013, Ultimate.
It would be more meaningful if I could insert an Activity Diagram into another Activity Diagram, which is similar to what I can do with an Activity Diagram into a Use Case Diagram.  However, TFS will not allow that.  Instead there is the option
of using the Call Behavior Action.  When I use this item from my toolbox, I can open the Properties for it and select from a list of "Behaviors" (i.e. Activity Diagrams) that are located in the same Project.  I want to select an Activity
Diagram from a different Project, but still within the same Solution.  Here is a picture:
These diagrams are all within the same project.  I want to be able to select a diagram from a different project within the same Solution.  For example, select a diagram from Cash Management as the "Behavior" for an item in the Dealer
License Project.  They are both in the same Solution, so it seems like I should be able to do that.
    Thanks for any advice.

  • Develop an environment: Activity diagram to corresponding JAVA code

we are doing a poject to convert UML Activity diagram to corresponding JAVA code.
How can we develop a plug-in, that can embedded in the an IDE..(UML environment with standard symbols... etc.)
There are already has some IDEs that can use to do this...
    -SDE for NetBeans
    -SDE for Sun ONE etc.
From where can we find out more details about : how those stuff are created:working.
Any ideas, white papers, research papers on this issues welcome!

Poke around at Eclipse.org. Their stuff is usually talked about/written about.

  • Activity Diagrams & Swimlanes

    I'm using JDeveloper 11g release (11.1.1.2.0).
I previously used JDeveloper version 10.1.3.3.0 and made use of swimlanes in the UML Activity Diagrams. In version 11g I can't see any way to use swimlanes in the UML Activity Diagram. Are swimlanes no longer available in the UML Activity Diagrams or indeed any UML diagrams?

There is indeed no more "swimlane" in the current JDeveloper. You can still display and assign each element to its correct partitions, that is the name in uml2.
To display the partitions for each element, there is 3 ways you can do that:
1- go to preferences for the activity diagram and for all nodes choose to "Show Partitions".
2- If you already have elements then select the element and in the property inspector choose "Show Partition"
3- or select the elements and choose "Visual Properties" from the context menu and change the "Show Partition" there.
To assign the elements to the proper partitions you can do it in 2 different ways:
1- Once you have shown the partition, it can be in-place edited.
2- Double click on the element to fire up the dialog and change the partition there on the right panel of the root node.
We have as top priority to add the swimlane support on top of uml2, the activity diagram is now uml2 compliant.
    I hope it helps.

  • Activity diagram - Vertical swimlane

    Hi,
I'm using the UML activity diagram and I'd like to layout out the swimlanes in a vertical disposition (like UML books show them) instead of horizontally. Is there any option? If I lay them vertically, the whole diagram can be fit in less space (remember that writing goes horizontally).
    Thanks. Miquel.

    Mike,
If you select the left-hand side of the Swimlane which contains the name, the Swimlane should be shown with grab bars. If you select the bottom-middle grab bar and drag it down it should increase the height of your Swimlane.

  • How to get XML files out of activity diagrams of UML

Using Rational Rose I have developed a model now I want a way to get XML file for each activity diagram of the model built. This XML file will be the input file for Project Cleveland which instantiates the services according to the documentation in this XMl file

In the Photos mode go to the View menu and uncheck Event Titles. That will leave you with only thumbnails displayed in the Photos view. However, if you close from that mode and reopen the opening time will be slower since iPhoto has to read and render all of the thumbnails. It can get rather long.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Activity with "(re-uese)" postfixed to name in an Activity Diagram

I am creating a new activity diagram and trying to including a pre-existing activity. This activity is currently not used in any other diagrams. (I had created a diagram and later deleted it. All the activities still stayed in the "Application Sources" under the package.)
This occurs when I do drag and drop from the "Application Sources" into the diagram. It also happens when I right-click and use "Add to diagram".
How do I include the activity without having the "(re-use)" postfixed to its name in the activity diagram?
The only way I can find to not have the "(re-use)" is to delete the activity and recreate it from scratch. Is there an easier way?
I am using version 10.1.3.0.2.223 on Windows XP.
    Mike

    Mike,
Although I have reproduced this issue in 10.1.3 Production as well I would recommend moving up to the latest version rather than working off a Preview from 2 years ago as we have made many improvements to the overall look and feel of both JDeveloper and the Modelers.
To workaround the issue, remove the Activity with the '(reuse)' after it from the current diagram and save and close JDeveloper. In a text editor open up the Activity file ('xxx.oxm_act'), you should find a line like:
    <cid name="CONTAINER_REFERENCE" key="<Some Text>" />
    Replace the above line with:
    <null name="CONTAINER_REFERENCE" />
and save the file. Reopen JDev and include the Activity back on the Diagram, it should no longer say '(Reuse)' after it.

  • UML Sequence diagram and class diagram

Making UML sequence diagram I didn't put activation rectangle in first object(UI) assuming that this object is always active. Is this correct? Not according to my tutor and I have to quote him:
"Finally, you have no activation rectangle for the userInterface instance, so the initial message could never have been sent."
Another thing he is picking me at is and I'm quoting him:
"In class diagram the generalisation arrow heads should be open triangles."
In my opinion there isn't strictly said that they must be open triangles especially when software lets you choose their form. Looking forward to hear your opinions.
    Thanks for answers.

My opinion is that in the real world that is meaningless. In the real world you might encounter one or more of the following situations.
    - There is no UML diagrams at all (thus whether one is active or not is moot.)
    - The UML diagrams are very high level and intended merely as a starting point. Missing details does not mean that you are free to ignore that the system must still run when you are done with it.
    - You will use a UML design tool that generates code, and you fill in blocks within it. Then of course details in the UML will matter. The chance that you will actually encounter this situation is almost zero. Realistically the only real place you might encounter this is if your work for a company that produces UML design tools.

  • Activity Diagram with Attachment

I am unable to create an attachment in an activity diagram. I click on "Attachment" in the "Component Palette". Attachment is highlighted. I try to drag and drop onto the diagram. The cursor goes to a plus sign, but when I release the button, nothing is created on the diagram.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Mike

I see. I first create the note, then attach it to a shape on the diagram using the attachment. I was aware of the Notes. I just thought that an attachment was a special type of document you could include in a diagram.
I am very familiar with CASE Methodology. There is no funding for training as usual, so I am learning UML modeling as I go. I am not doing Java development. Others in our group use JDeveloper for Java development. I figured since it has some UML modeling diagrams, why not use it. I just wanted to model a new process we have.
    Thank you,

  • I can not drag java class onto uml class diagram - why??

    Hi
    1. I created a new java web project
    2. I created a new uml project.
    3. I created new classes in the java web project.
    4. I created a new "class diagram" in the uml project.
    PROBLEM:
    1. When I drag one of the classes onto the class diagram screen, nothing happens. That is, when I perform the "drop"...nothing happens.
(NOTE: when I drag a "package" to the class diagram, a box representing the java package appears... I just cant get this to work for a class(s) )
    QUESTION:
Should I be able to drag a class (or classes) from my web project src folder onto the UML project's class diagram and have UML representations of the classes appear?

    Hi Shay
Unfortunately, I cannot view the suggested youtube stuff at work. (I'll try to view it when I get home)
But, in the meantime, I did kind of get things working...
After creating the java project and uml project (and initial class diagram), I had to
    1. drag the java packages (containing the classes I wanted diagrammed) onto the root node of the UML project (i.e., located on the left side "navigation" bar). Afterward, the package appeared under the UML project....Then,
    2. One by one I had to drag the individual java classes from the java project onto the root node of the UML project (i.e,. the classes then appeared under their respective packages under the UML project) . Then,
    3. Then, finally, I could drag the java classes (listed under their respective packages under the UML project) onto the class diagram panel, where the rendered properly.
I dont know if this is supposed to be the way to "reverse engineer" java classes to be part of a UML class diagram... But, it was the only way I found that worked... thus far, anyway.
Thanks again for reading my post and answering so promptly.... That was much appreciated!

  • Activity Diagram in Jdeveloper.

    Hi ,
I am trying to create a activity diagram for representing my requirement.
I have two separate diagrams. In the MainFLow , i use 'Call Behaviour Action' so that i could call the subFlow. The problem is
In the MainFlow, i would like to pass the parameters to the SubFlow, to which i have already set 4 parameters.
Now, I should know, how to assign the values to that parameters from the MainFlow.
    Thanks,
    Sabarisri. N

Are you dragging from the component palette?
If so are you seeing a new shape in the App Nav called something like partition0 ?
If this is the case you can workaround this by clicking on the swimlane in the component palette and then clicking on the surface of the diagram. This works for me, its how I usually create a swimlane.
    Thanks,
    Geoff
