UML Model - Problem Moving Objects

Hi:
A co-worker and I both have JDeveloper 9.0.3.10.76, UML Modelers Version 9.0.3.9.73. When creating a new UML Class diagram, I can move objects around, resize them, etc. My co-worker has to cut and paste them back into the diagram, can't resize things, etc. In other words, once a Java class is placed on the diagram, it can't be dragged around, resized, etc. Is this a setting somewhere?

I found the problem. When that person got back, we all "upgraded" a bunch of things, and then we all had it. The problem is that we are using Java 1.4.1_03 and set the SetJavaHome line accordingly in the jdev.conf file. Evidently the events used by the UML diagram for the mouse are now slightly different under 1.4.1_03 or something. Easily solved though, we just commented out that line.
You all might verify this works with the next release though, as I'm pretty sure it isn't shipping with 1.3.1 as the default, correct?

Ciao a tutti, è già da parecchio tempo che ogni tanto mi capita questo problema, in pratica ad un certo punto quando porvo a spostare oggetti o a crearne di nuovi questi vengono collocati leggermente scostati dal punto selezionato nel documento... di norma si scosta di tot pixel... sembra rispettare una sua logica, come se vi fosse uno snap attivato da qualche parte (ma non è sicuramente la griglia)... non so come risolvere il problema se non aprendo un nuovo documento e incollando tutto il contenuto del precedente (in tal caso il problema non sussiste, cosa che mi porta a puntare il dito su qualche impostazione del file precedente che non riesco a scovare)...

Hello everyone, I try to explain with my bad English my problem.
When I try to move an object or create a new one, the object moves a few pixels over to the selected point, as if there was a snap activated. If I create a new document, the problem in the new file does not exist. If I open the file with the problem this is ... I therefore believe it is some setting.
Can anyone help me?

Check if align to pixel grid is activated on the elements your trying to adjust.
You should find this in the Transform Tool.

Problems moving an object with the selection tool

Im working on CS2 and since last week I have a problem moving objects with the selection tool: To move the object I am obligate to select the object first, and then click at the edge/stroke of the object to drag it. Before that I could move the objects just by selecting somewhere in the object and then just drag it to some other place in one step. I think I maybe changed something in the general preferences....

Interlace problems with moving objects using iDVD

I had an MP4 file (created by a 3rd party) from a Hi-8 analog tape which has some interlace artifacts on moving images (left image of boy) but not too bad. When the MP4 files was imported into iMovie 11 the interlace artifacts smoothed somewhat - that was OK (right image of boy). The camera was still and the boy was moving. Vertical lines on stationary objects are OK in all images. These are screen captures from the Mac of the mp4 played through quicktime and the same file imported into iMovie 11 and played. I paused both to take the screen capture.
The completed project in iMovie 11 looked OK when previewed prior to rendering. These are 20 year old videos so my expections were being met.   I rendered the project with iDVD to the hard drive first and then to a DVD with the same poor imaging result on the moving object. I am using a new Macbook Pro I bought in early January which came with iMovie 11 and iDVD Ver 7.1.2 (1158). Running Mac OS X 10.7.3 Macbook Pro 2.3 Ghz Corei7   8GB 1333 Mhz DDR3.
I couldn't screen capture from the MAC DVD player screen to illustrate the poor result (got a checkerboard screen) so I took a photo of the screen and imported that (below). The moving boy on the left is from an iMovie 11 screen capture, the image on the right is the moving boy from the rendered DVD I paused on the Mac (and took a pic of).
Below a close up of the poorly rendered moving boy viewed on the resultant DVD. This translates into a horrible rendition of any quick moving object. It happens with any moving image - i.e. a pan across a room with straight vertical lines like edges of a wall will show as serrated and poorly rendered edge. I used a trial version of the Daniusoft DVD creator with the same result! I am at a loss on how to resolve this issue. Any thoughts out there??
I had previously used Pinnacle Studios on my old XP PC which worked great on other tape's Mpeg files and created great DVD's (never had an interlace problem) ... until my computer died ..... so I figured Apple and associated software should be at least equal if not a superior product.   Now I'm not too sure!

Can you explain more what you mean? In JDeveloper it is possible to create Entity Objects either through using the BC4J Wizards or visually using the UML diagrams. The objects created are the same thing.

UML model synchronization

I have a problem with the UML support that I need help with. I have an existing Netbeans project and created a UML project reversed from existing Java sources (or something like that).
I have a source tree like this:
com.test.packagea
                  ObjectA.java
com.test.packageb
                  ObjectB.java
                  ObjectC.javaObjectB is dependent on ObjectC through a method call.
The UML model shows this structure and life is good. I update my source tree from version control (Star Team) and another developer has moved ObjectC into packagea. My tree now has two ObjectC items, one in each package like this:
com.test.packagea
                  ObjectA.java
                  ObjectC.java
com.test.packageb
                  ObjectB.java
                  ObjectC.javaWhat I really would like is a way to reconcile this situation. Maybe a notification that source code for ObjectC in packagebis no longer available and then scan any newly created models (ObjectC in packagea) to see if that is the correct model. There may be a way to do this, but I have not found it.

I have reset the project to look like this:

                  ObjectC.javaI now move ObjectC.java to packagea. The java project updates properly with no problem. I then right click on the com package and choose Tools-->Synchronize model from source and end up with the following project:
com.test.packagea
                  ObjectA.java
                  ObjectC.java
com.test.packageb
                  ObjectB.java
                  ObjectB.java
                  ObjectC.java
                  ObjectC.java (This looks to be an instance element?)I would report this but there isn't a bug/rfe report option on the Early Access home page.

Why does R/3 have no ABAP UML modelling tools integrated?

I find it strange that SAP tout the benefits of OO programming and ABAP classes, then completely fail to provide a UML round trip modelling tool integrated into the ABAP workbench.
Doesn't this display a lack of foresight on SAPs behalf? I mean, if you are serious about the use of OO software, shouldn't you be serious about providing the framework such as UML modelling tools to facilitate optimal development?
Currently if I design a solution with ABAP objects, I am using Altova UModel to document the solution, but the lack of integration with the ABAP environment means that I am always struggling to keep the code and model in sync.
does anybody have similar views on this? If views are in accordance, couldn't the SDN community try to lobby SAP to provide such a tool?

I document my ABAP-OO developments with Altova UModel, too. A colleague recently showed me that the NetWeaver Developer Studio has UML functionality but for Java developments only (where round-trip engineering is already commonplace).
I assume that the problem with ABAP round-trip engineering is the ABAP dictionary. With Java you have the simple data types and the the class hierarchies of Java. In ABAP we also need the dictionary types.
I would appreciate to have such UML tools for ABAP available, yet I do not expect them to become available in the near future.

I want to build an XML representation of an UML model (a couple of classes and relationships between them). I know that I must use XMI, but my problem is another one:
where I can find a specification doc concerning all the XML element that I must put inside the XMI declarations?
(i.e. <uml:model>, <uml:ownedElement>, <uml:associationEnd>, and so on).
I cannot find an exact description of all elements in the UML namespace that I must use.
Somebody can help me?
(I have spent many hours on the OMG site, but without results)

of course, if somebody knows something about java librariers doing that work.... maybe he/she can help me.
IBM at alphaworks develops something similar (many years ago) to produce XMI schemas from the scratch.
Maybe something similar is exiting to produce an uml-xml representation of java objects.

JSE8: UML modeling: xmi.content vanished - model empty

Dear fellow users of Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8,
does anybody know how the following problem can be solved?
We were using the UML modeling features of Studio Enterprise 8 during the last three weeks. We have built a large class model (to large to be viewed in readable size on screen) with approximately 100 - 130 classes.
Yesterday evening the elements (the classes) vanished from the model, while the diagrams were still there.
The only thing we managed to save: We exported the diagram of our largest package as an image.
After restarting the Studio Enterprise 8. The model elements are still missing and the diagrams are as white as a new sheet of paper.
Today I found the reason.
The file projectname.etd has an <xmi.content> tag which should look like:

Dear Petersl, dear Jyothi and dear fellow users of Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8,
unfortunatly we are not able to generate the diagrams from source code since we didn't generate any source code in the first place.
We were just trying to recall the last steps before the data vanished. This is what we think we did:
We intended to rename the UML project. Since we couldn't do this we created a whole new project grabbed the packages from the model tree in our old project and dragged and dropped them onto the model tree in the new project.
When we were asked to decide wether to import or to move the packages, we decided for import. But we didn't like our packages in the imported elements tree. So we moved them back without being prompted.
Then we moved them to the new model (instead of importing them). Everything worked fine.
Here I have to correct myself: The model elements didn't vanish while the Studio Enterprise was running - they were still there until we finished the program.
We exported the image of our largest diagram, saved (we are absolutly sure we did) and shut the Studio Enterprise down.
When we started Sun Java Studio Enterprise the next day the modell content had gone.
(We are working on MS Windows XP Professional SP2 w/o admin rights. Our usr home direktory is on the network - we get an exception each time we start the Java Studio Enterprise 8 because some logfiles can't be deleted from the user home directory. We also had problems with the installation of Java Studio Enterprise 8: the paths were to long for the network installation software. So we had to install it locally on each workstation by means of temporary administrator privileges.
We use Java Studio Enterprise 8 and we had run an update before the incident.)

Positioning moving objects

I'm getting ready to make a 2d game and wasn't sure how to draw moving objects on the screen. I've played around in the past and always had a fixed sized window and basically moved objects around on a pixel grid. I want to have a resizeable window but keep the relative size and movements of objects the same. How is this usually done? Should I just render it to the largest possible window size and then transform it to the appropriate size? Thanks in advance!

1- Store locations by ratios, not exact coordinates. So if you want a GameObject's location to be in the direct middle of the screen, its position would be (.5, .5). Then when you go to draw that GameObject, you have to convert that position to screen coordinates. You do this simply by multiplying the ratio-coordinates by the game window's width or height.
2- Store locations by some model coordinates. This is similar to the first method, but requires some extra translation. You would store the GameObject's location via coordinates such as (50, 50), but you would also have to keep track of how large your game window model was (for simplicity's sake, let's say it is 200 by 100):
drawPoint( (gameObject.getX() / 200) * gamePanel.getWidth(), (gameObject.getY() / 100) * gamePanel.getHeight() );Does that make any more sense?
Edit- I should say that there probably are a ton of other ways to do it, these are just the ways that most easily fit into my head. It's all just algebra though.

Problems Moving iTunes Library To Another PC

Hi All -
I'm having problems moving my iTunes Library to another PC.
OBJECTIVE
I have a new PC, and I want to move my iTunes library off my old and onto the new. I want to be sure that I get all of the music and videos that I have both purchased and loaded. Total library size 132 GB.
MY CURRENT SETUP
o Old PC - Windows XP
o My current iTunes Library is not in the default location; my C: drive was too small, and I installed a separate data disk quite some time ago
o All of my files (music, videos, apps, etc.) are consolidated in the new library location.
WHAT I'VE DONE SO FAR
o Researched to find out how to copy my library to a new PC - from Apple's site
o Copied my iTunes library directory to an external disk.
o Installed iTunes on the new PC
o Opened iTunes on the new PC and changed the location of the library to a secondary data disk.
o Closed iTunes
o Copied my iTunes libaray from the external disk to the new PC library.
o Opened iTunes - where the heck is my stuff?!?
o Research ... i need the .itl file
o Apparently the itl file was not in the directory structure when I copied my library onto the external disk.
o Find the itl file ... copy the itl file ... open iTunes while holding down the <SHIFT> key
o Point to the new itl file which is now co-located w/ all of my content.
o iTunes shows my stuff, but when I click on one of the items, it tells me the file it not found.
Clearly I'm missing a step somewhere. I just want to move all my stuff, lock-stock-and-barrel, to a new installation of iTunes, on a new PC, into a library location other than the default.

With iTunes closed, copy the files iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel and the folder Album Artwork from C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Owner\My Documents\My Music\iTunes into G:\ - Note that sentinel is a hidden file so use Tools > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer to reveal it. The iTunes Music Library.xml file and Previous iTunes Libraries folder won't be needed.
Press & hold down shift as you click the icon to launch iTunes. Keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library, click choose and browse to G:\iTunes Library.itl
Check that you can play a file or two. Close iTunes
Rename G:\iTunesLibrary as G:\iTunes Media
Launch iTunes. Check under Edit > Preferences > Advanced that the media folder has been automatically updated to G:\iTunes Media. If not, use the Change... button to correct it. Don't consolidate files if prompted. Close iTunes, then reopen. Check that you can play media.
Close iTunes. Create a folder called G:\iTunes. Move the files iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library.xml, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel and the folders Album Artwork & iTunes Media inside G:\iTunes.
Press & hold down shift as you click the icon to launch iTunes. Keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library, click choose and browse to G:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl

Problems moving distribution from one environment to another
Initially we have the environment as below:-
Production :-
Server1 : AIX Environment manager (dealing with conductor, web, db)
Server2 : NT Node manager (dealing with outlook)
Development :-
Server3 : NT Environment manager (dealing with conductor, web, db)
Server4 : NT Node manager (dealing with outlook)
Currently, we intended to change the production environment via
changing the Server1 to Server3, as the new environment
manager, while the node manager unchanged.
Things that we've done in Server2, the node manager for
production environment:-
1) Pointing to Server3 instead of Server1, by changing Forte
Control Panel and changing registry entry.
2) Re-deploy the needed libraries in the new environment, so
that it can has the updated version.
3) Re-olegen the vb component.
4) Re-deploy the whole application.
However, we're facing the following problems/error messages
for the newly deployed Forte application:
1) Failed to bind to object named (/wfuseraccessobj/odbso/1)
2) Failed to bind to object named (/wfuseraccessobj/emailso/1)
These errors are actually refer to the libraries that used by
Conductor in order to perform database retrieval, and emailing
functions. These functions were worked properly in the initial
environments.
NOTE: The first error could be okay when refreshing the internet browser
(as our system is a web-based system), somehow it keeps on occurring every
now and then.
Please advice on this matter and reply ASAP as the project
delivery is crucial for our side.

Yes. I organize all my film rolls by name. If I import new pictures that don't fit into an existing film roll name I create a new film roll with a name appropriate to the theme of the new pictures. No problem with this.
However, if I import pictures at a later date that I want to move to an existing film roll, there is a problem if scrolling is required to bring the existing film roll into view in the display pane.
For example, I have a film roll called "Flowers & Plants". I later import a roll that contains some pictures that I want to move to the Flowers & Plants roll. The Flowers & Plants roll is not visible in the display pane so scrolling is necessary. I select and drag the new pictures up (the new film roll is always at the bottom of the display pane) to reveal the Flowers & Plants film roll. However, the film rolls scroll by so fast it is virtually impossible to stop on the Flowers & Plants roll's title bar.
This was not a problem with earlier versions of iPhoto on slower Macs. I really appreciate the much improved iPhoto/Mac performance but I wish there were some way to control this aspect.

How to release process model sequence file object?

Calling engine's method GetStationModelSequenceFile we get the reference to the process model sequence file object. According to TestStand Help, you should "Release this reference when you are done using it." The question is: how do you release it? Call engine's method ReleaseSequenceFileEx passing the reference to the model sequence file gotten from GetStationModelSequenceFile won't work, it returns FALSE which means the sequence file can't be released. Similar problems exist with methods SequenceFile.GetModelSequenceFile, Execution.GetModelSequenceFile. My aplication is written in VB. Using the statement like
Set modelSequenceFile = Nothing also does not solve the problem. I want to get some information of process model, such as version number, so I call those API functions in my code, which was developed under TestStand 3.1. I post this question because when I ran my application with TestStand 3.5 or 4.0 beta, I got the warning dialog when loading a sequence file and then closing the application. The dialog listed all the unreleased objects which I figured out is due to that the process model file was not released. Because message in the dialog is as following:

            Sequence #1:
                Name: Test UUTs
        Type Definitions [43 object(s) not released]

Of course there are more in the list, but the sequence file loaded into the application is released correctly by calling engine's method ReleaseSequenceFileEx, so it does not appear in the list.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Here are what I did after launch the operator interface:
1) Call Engine.GetSequenceFileEx to get a reference to a sequence file.
2) Display steps of MainSequence of the sequence file in GUI.
3) Call Engine.GetStationModelSequenceFile to get a reference to the station process model sequence file. The variable used to save the reference of process model sequence file is modelSequenceFile.
4) Loop through all the sequences in process model sequence file, get the references of entrypoint sequences in the process model and put them in a container (VB Collection).
At this point,
Calling modelSequenceFile.CanUnload returns TRUE
Calling modelSequenceFile.IsExecuting returns FALSE
Calling Engine.ReleaseSequenceFileEx(modelSequenceFile, ReleaseSeqFile_UnloadFile) returns FALSE
There is no other loaded process model sequence file reference at this point.

Mapping UML Model to Database Schema

Hi All,
Is it possible to map UML business object model on database schema using Mapping Workbenck? I've done the mapping with imported java classes, but wodering if same could be done with the UML models. I couldn't find any documentation about it either. This feature may be very useful in cases where you want to incorporate TopLink in the design stages of a project.

I agree that incorporating design time practices into this tool might be useful, but is not supported as you described.
From the perspective of application development, I find it useful to first develop the object model in an IDE such as JDeveloper which supports UML (Which will automatically allow you to deploy the .class files of the project). I point my MW project to the output location of my .class files which seems to work great as I can make changes to the object model in the IDE and easily refresh the contents in the MW.

UML Modeling Tool Suggestions?????

My group is in need of an inexpensive but good "UML Modeling Tool". We are currently looking at a tool ( Enterprise Architect ) that produces use case diagrams, object model diagrams and will produce stubs from the diagrams and will also reverse engineer. It cost about $150 per seat but has some serious short comings. We dont want anything major like "Rational Rose". Any tools anyone has experience with and can recommend that inlcude UML, use case diagrams and object model diagrams would be great.

Together cost a bit more then $150 but it worth it. Basically any piece of your code became the piece of class diagram or package diagram. The Feature Driven Development (not Use Case based approach you are looking for in a chip tool) is recommended for Together. Sometimes FDD is much more effective and it is very close to approach recommended by XP guys.
