  • I am unable to apply updates

    Hello, Jeff.
I have the most up-to-date version and am NOT using a proxy, yet I run into this same issue.  I'm able to apply updates and otherwise interact with my installed apps but they are unable to connect and verify my subscription which of course just rubs salt in the wound as I would MUCH rather be using a standalone application rather than this buggy cloud version.
Please advise how I can address this issue.
Thank you for you kind attention.

Branching this to a new discussion as the previous discussion was regarding proxy configuration.
Shercohelp can you please provide more details including any relevant error messages you are receiving when you attempt to download and install the software?  Also which operating system do you have installed?

  • Can't update programs:  "Unable to apply updates You are already running Adobe Application Manager. ..." HELP!

So, I try to update Photoshop CC 2014 Camera Raw patch, install Fireworks CS6, and InDesign CC, but get this error on my new MacBook Pro:
The only instance of AAM that is running is the one that opens automatically when I click "Updates" in the PS Help menu. I've also tried it from the AAM widget at the top of my screen.
    And before solutions are presented:
I have closed down EVERY instance of AAM first.
I have opened the Activity Monitor to make sure that nothing of Adobe was running in between each update attempt, just to make sure.
I have force quit everything Adobe that was running in between each update attempt, just to make sure.
I have tried it two ways:
Opened Photoshop, Clicked "Updates" in the Help menu, chose the update for "Photoshop Camera Raw 8.5 (CC)", clicked "Update" and still get the error.
I have quit Photoshop, ran Activity Monitor and checked Force Quit...launched the AAM Launcher Utility, See big red button at top that says "1 Update", click button, Click 'Update', put in my password, update still fails with same error.
It's a freaking loop of frustration!!! There is no end. It keeps telling me to close "ALL" instances of AAM, but there's not other way to apply an update for it. I try and just keep getting the same an error! Uggh! Someone please...PLEASE help!

Did the upgrade to 08/07 today. Went just fine as far as I could tell. Logged in, jumped into updatemanager (because I knew there'd be updates that would need to be applied), but they won't work... Downloads fine, but updatemanager just ties up during the install. Suggestions? Any log files I should examine that are specific to the patching process?

I am unable to apply my downloaded update. When I try to apply it and restart firefox, it still says 'apply downloaded update now...'. Why can't I apply this update and what do I do about it?

Checked out that link and everything seems to be in order on this machine at this time.
I only have CC installed on this one machine, not even my secondary machine like is permitted. it seems odd that I'm asked to re-accept the Licence Agreement as often as I am. If I had to guess, it's almost every week, if not multiple times some weeks, that all the software will decide I should have to view the licence agreement.
Edit: I've never had any noticeable "errors" activating or anything like that. I just get asked to do it quite frequently.
This activation screen isn't too annoying (it involves clicking one single button), but like I stated earlier, if I'm trying to launch the software by double-clicking on a PSD, AI, PPROJ, AEP, etc... that file will fail to open.
I feel like that's probably not really a bug, but it is frustrating, since I did launch the application with the intent to edit that specific file I tried to open.
Again, something that you guys may consider working on.
Another annoyance is that: agreeing to the licence agreement is a per-application task, so if I see that Licence Agreement dialogue window by opening Photoshop (for example), I know that every other piece of software I have in the suite (Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, Audition) will be showing me that screen on it's next launch. Probably deliberate for legal purposes that I can't just agree once for the whole suite, but heck, it would save me a lot of minor headaches if it was a unified agreement.

  • WSUS unable to synchronise updates after updates applied to server

    Hi all,
I've landed myself in some hot water by breaking our WSUS server, unfortunately I'm at a loss as to where to go from here and was hoping someone who has some more knowledge of WSUS workings might be able to point me in the right direction.
I have WSUS 3.0 (3.2.7600.226) running on Server 2008 R2. The server also hosts our SCCM environment. As we are rolling out FEP 2010 I updated the server with SP1 and the the other critical / security updates that were available after doing so (bunch of
.NET 3.5 fixes). Since this update however, the WSUS server is unable to synchronise updates. I receive the following message:
WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 65.54.51.180:443
    at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetRequestStream(TransportContext& context)
       at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetRequestStream()
       at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String methodName, Object[] parameters)
       at Microsoft.UpdateServices.ServerSyncWebServices.ServerSync.ServerSyncProxy.GetAuthConfig()
       at Microsoft.UpdateServices.ServerSync.ServerSyncLib.InternetGetServerAuthConfig(ServerSyncProxy proxy, WebServiceCommunicationHelper webServiceHelper)
at Microsoft.UpdateServices.ServerSync.ServerSyncLib.Authenticate(AuthorizationManager authorizationManager, Boolean checkExpiration, ServerSyncProxy proxy, Cookie cookie, WebServiceCommunicationHelper webServiceHelper)
       at Microsoft.UpdateServices.ServerSync.CatalogSyncAgentCore.SyncConfigUpdatesFromUSS()
       at Microsoft.UpdateServices.ServerSync.CatalogSyncAgentCore.ExecuteSyncProtocol(Boolean allowRedirect)
Unfortunately I'm unable to find much on this message out on the web (regarding the no connection could be made part). We had synchronisations errors in the past that ended up being a proxy error, unfortunately I do not control this proxy so I cannot check
if it's getting stuck there - I have logged a request with the team that does however. Just to clarify - WSUS is not configured to use a proxy, it is set to sync directly from MS Updates, however a direct exception is made on the proxy for this server.
I have tried uninstalling the .NET updates from the Server, but haven't gone so far as to remove the SP1 installation yet. I did notice there was a WSUS update available (KB2720211), which I applied, however the installation failed and this broke the console
altogether, so I fixed that issue and reinstalled WSUS on the box, still no love however.
Can anyone out there offer up some suggestions? Many Thanks.

The solution actually might be as simple as logging into the server, make sure the admin consoles for IIS and WSUS are not running, and open an admin command prompt.  Then navigate to the "setup" folder in your install directory (most likely "C:\Program
Files\Update Services\setup") and run this command:
    cscript installselfupdateonport80.vbs
Then simply reboot your server.  When it's back "up", log back in and try syncing again.  You should be golden :).
    Not really.
The absence of the /selfupdate on port 80 (when using a port 8530-based WSUS server) has been functionally irrelevant for several years, and was only ever relevant to certain WUAgent updates performed on Windows 2000 or Windows XP systems.
But, with the changes made to the WUA in March, 2012, that resource has been absolutely irrelevant since then.
Furthermore, this issue has absolutely nothing to do with a missing /selfupdate feature.
We may well have been given the root cause in the original post, but I focused on the O.P. claiming the change occurred after installing updates, but it's more likely it's actually directly related to the presence of Configuration Manager on the same
    server.
    From the original post:
I have WSUS 3.0 (3.2.7600.226) running on Server 2008 R2. The server also hosts our SCCM environment.
And the answer  here lies in understanding the implications of installing a Configuration Manager Management Point (MP) on the same machine as WSUS. It can be done but WSUS must be installed on port 8530 for it to work, and after installation of
both, certain SSL modifications must be made to the Default Web Site; otherwise, you'll encounter these type of SSL conflicts within the Default Web Site as a result of the installation of the SCCM MP.

  • Firefox is unable to apply an update

Firefox used to update itself without any problems when suddenly a message appeared saying that the update cannot be applied as there may be other Firefox instances running. Which are not. And from that day on I cannot update Firefox anymore.

Yes, it is indeed a corporate provided version. I forgot to mention that. However it never had any issues with applying the updates before and I can't even guess why it suddenly stopped applying updates one day.
Thank you all for the responses.
To "John99": I tried the Help screen, there's no "Check for updates" button because it seems as if the Firefox is stuck on some update what it downloaded but cannot apply. Button is labeled "Apply Update" but pressing that ends up with the same error message. Is there a way to delete that update and force the browser to re-download an update?
To "Waka_Flocka_Flame": I've been thinking about that, I guess the main question is that will such a direct "overwrite" also import the settings and bookmarks?
To "cor-el": I have to admit I haven't yet tried the safe mode option, I will test this as soon as I can. I'll also look about the newer ESR releases, but the question will then be the same as I mentioned to "Waka_Flocka_Flame" - does a direct application of the new version through an installer preserve the data from old browser version, like settings and bookmarks and so on?

  • CS4 Master Collection - Problem Applying Updates

    Hi
I'm running the CS4 Master Collection on Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit, SP2.
Normally I have no problem applying updates to the various Adobe components when they become available, however for a while now I've been unable to instal an update that's reported as being available for Adobe Media Encoder 4.1.0.
If I run the "check for updates" manually I can download the update (reported as being 63.7MB) and when I attempt to instal it the installation process appears to run. It finishes after a while and the Adobe Updater reports "The Udating Process is Finished" in a single dialog box with a single button entitled "Quit" - which seems odd as "Quit" implies "finish earlier than planned", I'd have expected something more in line with "All done", something like "OK".
Anyway, when I run the check for updates again I'm told about the same update implying that it wasn't applied successfully.
I get this behaviour whether I run the update as an Administrator or not (all other updates for other products are applied without problem). I also get it regardless of whether or not I reboot the machine after trying to apply the update.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing the problem ? I couldn't find anything obvious or obviously relevant in any of the Windows event logs on the PC.
    Thanks for any ideas
    Steve

I am having the same problem. I found a forum that suggested this. Apparently it worked for some people, but not for me. Let me know if it does:
    1. Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
    2. Right-click on Command Prompt and select "Run as..."
    3. Run as Administrator (even if you are logged in as Admin. You need to run in the Black Command Prompt, not the White one)
    4. Run: regsvr32 JScript.DLL
    5. Then run: regsvr32 vbscript.DLL
(dont forget the spaces, or it won't work)
    6. Then try running the set up again
As i said, it worked for some on the forum, but not others (like me). Try it and see if works for you

  • Yosemite hangs in booting after applying Update 2015-003.

I have applied Update 2015-003 to Yosemite.
After booting the progress bar hangs at about 30% for over an hour.
The hardware is a MacBook Pro with a SSD harddrive.

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
To restart an unresponsive computer, press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
    Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 4
If a desktop Mac hangs at a plain gray screen with a movable cursor, the keyboard may not be recognized. Press and hold the button on the side of an Apple wireless keyboard to make it discoverable. If need be, replace or recharge the batteries. If you're using a USB keyboard connected to a hub, connect it to a built-in port.
    Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 11. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
    Step 9
If the startup device is an aftermarket SSD, it may need a firmware update and/or a forced "garbage collection." Instructions for doing this with a Crucial-branded SSD were posted here. Some of those instructions may apply to other brands of SSD, but you should check with the vendor's tech support.
    Step 10
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 11
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 12
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 13
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
