  • ProBook Crash/unable to Boot Using Recovery Disk

The title pretty much explains it. My computer crashed after getting the blue screen of death. I was unable to start up after that. I ordered recovery disks from HP. And now am unable to boot to the recovery disk. I'm also given a screen that tells me boot device not found please install an operating system on your hard disk. I have done the whole escape thing going into the boot It I've also done the F11 thing, neither have been successful. If it matters I am using a ProBook 4530s on Win7 64bit.
    This question was solved.

So when you hit Esc key at power on and enter boot menu is the CD/DVD drive shown as a choice? If so I assume you are moving to it and hitting Enter key? What happens after that?

  • Problem Using Recovery Disks!

    Hi,
    I have a Hp Pavilion m6-1045dx machine.
It came with windows 7 pre installed.
the first thing i did was to create the set of recovery disks, so it created a set of 5 dvds recovery disks.
the system was going good. I cleaned out my harddrive and installed windows 8 in it.
now i installed win 7 again, recovery partition is still in the harddrive but it is not working now. I tried to recover using the recovery manager inside the base.wim file after extracting it but it says that i have already created a set to recovery disks, i should use them to recover the system. When i use recovery disks, it gives an error that the set of recovery disks cannot be used on this system.
    How can i recover now?
    Please help.
    Regards...

Hello Sarmad_Khan. I understand you are unable to utilize your recovery disks, due to the multiple changes that have occurred. Before any advanced troubleshooting is attempted, I would like you to download and utilize the patch: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-80183-1&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en
Installing this patch should resolve the issue. Otherwise, please attempt the troubleshooting in this HP document: h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c01868346
If the issue is not resolved, there is a more complicated alternative solution. If you have access to your original product key, you can create an ISO file as a potential resolution, assuming you have access to program that can burn ISO files (you can download software online for this task). Utilizing the link below, click on the relevant software and download it, then select a language, and type the product key (25 digits) to activate the installation: http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-from-digital-river/
Please respond when you complete the troubleshooting. If the issue is not resolved, you should contact HP technical support for further assistance.
Their options will be based on the warranty status of the computer. If you do not have this information, you can locate it at this website: http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/wc/home?ac.admitted=1384280905804.876444892.199480...
You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

  • Though the root disk is mirrored, server is unable to boot from alternate disk (mirror disk)

    Hi PPl,
It happened second time in a row. Though the root disk is mirrored, server is unable to boot from alternate disk (mirror disk)
When the disk was found faulty, still unable to boot the OS from alternate disk, it says it still probe/look for other disk
Here are the console log when I tried to boot the OS
    sc> console
Enter #. to return to ALOM.

    WARNING: /pci@0/pci@0/pci@2/scsi@0 (mpt0):

In such condition left out with only two options.
    1)      Remove the faulty disk physically and boot
    (or)
    2)      Replace the faulty disk and boot it
Any way, I can disable the faulty disk in BIOS (or) booting from cd-rom and do something to avoid it?

You can't boot from systems earlier than that shipped with the computer. For example, early 2008 Mac Pros come with 10.5.1 and can't boot 10.5
Also you can't boot with a DVD that was shipped with a different model Mac.

  • Portege R500-11Z: Using Recovery Disk to prepare a new HDD

I have bought a new hard drive (SSD) for my R500-11Z and I have put it in an enclosure with USB cable prior to installation - I want to be able to format the drive and create a clean copy of Windows XP before taking out my existing hard drive.
I have been looking for ways to use the recovery disk and it LOOKS like it should be possible... EXCEPT...
I have worked out that on the recovery disk there is a executable called recoUNPACK in the Tools folder, which should in theory restore the contents of the disk to the hard drive. However, because the new hard drive is plugged into my existing XP set up it gets a folder called System Volume Information written to it. The presence of this folder causes the recoUNPACK to fail. It gets to 59% each time and then throws the error - System Volume Information already exists.
Anyone suggesting deletion of the folder should consider their knowledge of XP - there is no way to do this, ask Mr Google if you don't believe me. I have also tried this with full write permissions of this folder so that, in theory, recoUNPACK could overwrite...
I would be very grateful if anyone knows a way of 'forcing' overwrite of the System Volume Inofrmation folder or another way of 'restoring' the recovery disk to my new hard drive (other than taking the laptop apart and physically replacing the drive!).
I have looked at various options for setting up a bootable USB disk, but as I'm going to fit it within my laptop I don't want to run any odd versions of XP - hence using the recovery disk that came with my R500. All the bootable USB programmes that I can find only allow fat32 format, and I'd like to stick to NTFS...
And the reason I want to do it this way is that I want to continue using my existing hard disk until the new one is ready - its supposed to be an efficient way of working... but so far the time wasted trying to restore the disks might have been better spent undoing the screws on the back of the machine!
    Thanks in advance

    > My question is about how to use recoUNPACK.exe via USB external drive, not how to set up a new ssd within my r500.
Im not expert in recoUNPACK.exe. I dont use it simply because there are other, easier ways to backup and restore the system.
    > - its not just operating system, its the other software that I need to load and update.
Sorry but I cannot follow you now... the Toshiba image contains the Windows system, Toshiba drivers and tools.
But it does NOT contain the 3rd party software you have preinstalled on the notebook.
So even you would be able to unpack the Toshiba image on the external SSD drive, you would need to install all the 3rd party software / tools which are already available on your HDD. This would definitely NOT decrease your down-time.
In my opinion if you want to decrease your down-time, I recommend creating an image backup of your partition using the Windows 7 tool backup and restore
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/backup-and-restore
This backup could be saved somewhere on an external medium.
After a short system installation (using recovery disk) on new SSD drive, use the restore option to get the same system status back.

  • Can't boot EQUIUM L300 using recovery disk

    Hi,
I am looking at a friends L300 and it begins to boot Vista and gives the 'WINDOWS ERROR RECOVERY' window.  When you continue with the repair option the laptop then continues to 'load the windows files' and moves onto the next part which shows Microsoft Corparation with the loading bar.
After about 40 to 50 seconds everything stops.
I have purchased a recovery disk (as the owner does not have one/did not create one) from Toshiba using the serial number on the base PSLB2E-003004KS.  When I load from the recovery disk I get exactly the same result as above.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks for reading.
    Andrew

    Equium L300-146 (PSLB2E-003004KS)
So the recovery appears to run to completion and then Windows won't boot. Is that what happens, Andrew?
Be sure there are no peripherals connected to the computer.
Otherwise, I can only imagine a hardware or BIOS problem.
Can't hurt to flash the BIOS.
       BIOS Update for Equium L300, 1.50-WIN, 06/11/08

    Good luck!

  • Bootmgr missining after using recovery disks

I bought my laptop a dv7-4278nr a few months back, it was a month old when I got it. The day after I got it, the hard drive failed, so I was sent a new one, with the recovery disks. Once I go through recovery, and I put the 4th disk, the application and driver recovery DvD it takes like 1 minute, before it pops out. Then shuts off computer even though it says it will restart. I turn it bac on click finish, and restarts. It does boot mgr is missing. I downloaded a Windows 7 copy and made an iso of it, but when I go to download drivers on the hp website, most of the programs don't wor at all. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Create a Windows 7 Recovery CD. Download the ISO  below.
    Windows 7 64bit
Use an app such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to cd is Here. Once created, boot from it.
    Select the Repair option.
Select "Command Prompt" and type in the following command.
    Bootrec.exe /REBUILDBCD
If the command is successful, close the Command Prompt window.
Click “Startup Repair” to perform Windows Startup Repair. After doing these computer will reboot automatically.

  • Satelite Pro L300 - Can I use recovery disk to get Vista back?

On my computer i am dual booting Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
Could i get rid of Vista then later could i use the recoevery disc to recover vista?
P.S i know it wipes the whole hdd

    Hi
If you have created successfully the Recovery disk using the Toshiba Recovery disk creator then youve got the Recovery disk which contains the Toshiba image.
The image is a package which contains the OS (Vista), drivers and all the stuff which was preinstalled on the notebook.
This means that if you would use the recovery disk then you would get everything like at the first day of purchase
Simply said: Yes, you can get Vista back using the Recovery disk ;)

  • Satellite L850-161 won't boot from recovery disk

When I got the laptop in 2012 I created 4 recovery disks but since then i've had my HDD replaced in my SATELLITE L850-161 but it has the recovery partition with nothing in it and the laptop won't boot from disk either so I can't format it but really need to, any suggestions??

If you have 4 recovery discs be sure you start installation with disc number 1. After HDD exchange you should be able to use created recovery discs for recovery image installation.
Does some other bootable disc starts properly?
To be honest I dont understand how new HDDD can contain recovery partition that will be created if recovery image installation works.
Problem is that in such situation you dont have many options. In worst case you can order original recovery disc for your machine.

  • Satellite A200 won't boot from recovery disk

I need to reinstall the notebook but every time I boot from CD it won't.
I tried every boot disk ( xp pro, xp home, Toshiba recovery disk ) at house but none of it works.
The recovery disk boots (windows is loading) but after loading my laptop restarts.

    > Try to run Recocery CD under Windows and then choose reinstall option from cd menu
Something like that is not possible using the Toshiba Recovery disk
    > tried every boot disk ( xp pro, xp home, Toshiba recovery disk ) at house but none of it works.
In my opinion your CD/DVD drive can not read the inserted medias and therefore its not possible to restore the operating system.
I think the CD/DVD drive should be checked by an notebook technician and if necessary it should be replaced.

  • Reloading VISTA Using Recovery Disks

    I have a Lenovo 3000 N Laptop, Model 0768 A52.
The hard drive is failing -  corruption errors, failed check disk results, etc.
I plan to install a new hard drive but before I do are there any instructions or guidance on using the Recovery Disks I already made from the machine?  What about drivers?
I would prefer a step by step process for reinstalling VISTA on the new hard drive.
    Thanks!

    enhayden, welcome to the forum,
the recovery discs will install the hard drive to the original factory state including all drivers.
You need to boot from the first cd you created and follow the instructions.
I hope you were able to get your important files copied from the failing drive.
    Hope this helps

Recovery Discs failure is frequent, and unfortunately has many causes. Some things to try that have worked in other cases.>>
1-Enter BIOS and reset to Default settings. Usually it is F9 key, check bottom of screen to be sure. Next F10 to Safe & Exit. Run Recovery again. You can attempt it from the partition now instead of Discs if preferred by tapping away at the F11 key at start up.
2-Scroll down on the page and get> Bootable CD ISO and> ImgBurn to burn the iso image to cd-a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here. Once created, boot from it. Delete any hdd partitions, create one and format. Next try booting from Recovery Discs again.

I have the product recovery disk, but that will wipe all existing data and rebuild. Is there a way to start my PC without the use of recovery disk?
    Thanks for any help.

Tried to access BIOS, but seem to have no luck. When I try to enter it during boot up, I get a black screen with the following:
Set default value? (Y/N) BIOS v1.20 (in right upper corner)
It doesn't matter if I press "Y" on "N" the result is the same, which is the original screen I already described.
I also tried the Microsoft Installation disk, but nothing happened with that either. It reads the CD, but on the screen nothing but the original message appears and even that after a reboot with the CD in. If I put it in when the PC is working and "press any key", nothing changes on the screen other than the original message re-appears after it tries to reboot, but realises it's not the system disk it asked for.
I did have a similar problem starting it about a year ago, when I previously used it, but then after few restarts, it got going again. That time I did a system and disk check and defrag, so all was well when I turned it off.
Wii check the HDD via HDD enclosure next as RandyRobers suggested.
Thanks for the suggests. Will let you know how and if it worked out.
