Unable to connect Oracle 8.0.4

Hello,
Does anyone know if the SQL Developer works with Oracle 8.0.4? If it doesn't, there another Oracle tool with the same proposal?
Thanks.

Databases before 9iR2 are not supported. While some features may work, there are many that will not. The big ones that come to mind are pl/sql debugging and that date columns will not show their values. But those are in reference to 8i, so you may have even more issues.
Other tools.. There is always SQL*Plus :)
There is always toad and you may even still be able to find the free version from before quest got its hands on it which should work well with version 8. Other free tools are squirrel, qtodbc, and tora. Commercial tools are toad, pl/sql developer and a host of others.

  • Unable to Connect Oracle 7 with Data Services 3.2

    Hi All,
I am incredibly facing an issues with Oracle 7 connecting with Data Services 3.2. with Native client drivers (TNS Names).
The client legacy application is on Oracle 7, they are moving the data from legacy to SAP ECC. My role is to transfer the data from Oracle 7 to SAP ECC, We are using Data Services 3.2 for conversion. This Data Services 3.2 is not connecting with Oracle 7 by using oracle native drivers (TNS Names).
I am able to connect Oracle 8 client with SQL *Plus, but with Data Services its not connecting, I am able create Data Store but when try to import the table the error message I am getting like "ORA-24316: Illegal handle Type"
Is there any other solution for this to connect, or Is Data Services 3.2 will not connect to Oracle 7 since its older version.
Please reply with your thoughts, or with some solution.
Appreciate your prompt reply. Many thanks.

    Hi Paul,
Currently I am using ODBC connection to read the data from legacy Oracle7, but ODBC is very very slow, queries are taking hours to fetch the data. Is there any other solution by chance... I read that DataDirect is the one can connect to any versions of oracle and its bit faster, is that true. Please clarify me. If that is the solution where can I get this DataDirect drivers for oracle 7? Please advice me.
    Thank  You,
    Ashok

  • UNABLE TO CONNECT ORACLE 8i NT WITH DEVELOPER 6.0

Could somebody possibly from Oracle outline the solution on how to connect Oracle 8i with Developer 6.0. Oracle may please update the Developer 6.0 to be able connect to Oracle 8i sucessfully.

I have Oracle 8.1.5 on my W/NT server and Developer 6.0 with patchA5 installed on my clients.
I'm able to connect from Developer 6.0 to Oracle 8.1.5 using the following entries in
    my client's c:\orant\net80\admin\tnsnames.ora
    file:
    orcl.world =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS =
    (COMMUNITY = tcp.world)
    (PROTOCOL = TCP)
    (Host = pc20)
    (Port = 1521)
    (ADDRESS =
    (COMMUNITY = tcp.world)
    (PROTOCOL = TCP)
    (Host = pc20)
    (Port = 1526)
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = ORCL)
ORCL is my Oracle 8.1.5 instance name (SID), not my global database name (which I called 'updsis' or whatever). (I DON'T mean the instance name MUST be ORCL!)
I didn't need to change my tnsnames.ora after upgrading from 8.0.5 to 8.1.5 on the server.
    Hope this helps. Regards,
    Andrew Florit

  • Unable to connect Oracle 10g Express from Visual Studio Server Explorer

    Hello,
Please help me out here. I am connecting from Visual Studio 2008 to Oracle 10g Express Edition and the I have installed the ODAC 11 and the ODP.NET as well for Visual Studio(Both include Oracle Developer tools). But whenever I tried to connect from my Visual Studio 2008 server explorer so that I can have the database and its object there, I do get this error : "ORA-12560 : TNS: protocol adapter error."
The following is what I specified in my connection box:
    DataSource Name: (Local Database)
    Username : HR
    Password: the password for it.
My OS is : Windows Vista Ultimate.
Please anyone who has solved such error should just help out here.
    Thanks all

Thank you for your reply. I will like to know if you can use Visual Studio. In visual studio there is what we called Server Explorer and from there you can create connection and access all the database server from there. I am able to connect to the Oracle XE through the browser and I was able to crete table and other stuffs like that but when I tried to connect from Visual Studio 2008, I get the 12560 Error. I checked my TNSNAMES and found this:
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = OLAMMIE)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    ORACLR_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = CLRExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
Look at what I have in my Sqlnet.Ora file,
    # This file is actually generated by netca. But if customers choose to
    # install "Software Only", this file wont exist and without the native
    # authentication, they will not be able to connect to the database on NT.
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS)
Please kindly help me out of this as it is very urgent. I can connect from browser using http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex but cannot connect from my C# code and Server Explorer. What is likely to cause this error.
Thank you for helping me in advance.

  • Unable to connect Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g

    Good Morning All,
    I using oracle 10g.
    http://dt40562:1158/em/console/logon/logon
iam connecting successfully in Toad using scott/tiger.
Whenever im connecting using Oracle Enterprise Manager im getting below error
"The application requires more database privileges than you have currently been granted. Click on Help to get more version specific information."
Pls help me on this issue.. How can i connect to database using OEM.
    Thanks..

    Hi,
CONNECT has been dramatically altered in 10.1.0.x and later releases of Oracle.  The granted privileges have been seriously reduced to nothing more than CREATE SESSION.  In 9.0.1.x and 9.2.0.x the CONNECT role possessed these additional privileges:
    ALTER SESSION
    CREATE CLUSTER
    CREATE DATABASE LINK
    CREATE SEQUENCE
    CREATE SYNONYM
    CREATE TABLE
    CREATE VIEW
Thus an application which relied upon the CONNECT role in 9iR2 and earlier releases would not properly function against a 10gR1 or later database.
you need to have these Oracle Roles , so ur problem will be solved.
    EXECUTE_CATALOG_ROLE
    OEM_MONITOR
    EXP_FULL_DATABASE
Let me know if the issue still persists.

  • Sql * plus 9 is not able to connect oracle 7 database

Today I have installed oracle 9i release 2 and found that the sql * plus provided with is unable to connect oracle database version 7. But before that we were able to connect the oracle 7 database well.
Any one having a clue on that...?
    Is it a product bug...?
If so then please provide me some alternative solution clue or patch download link. Please remember in any condition currently it is not possible discard my oracle 7 database.
    With Regards.
    Soumen.

No, it is not a bug. You just cannot connect with Ora9i R2 SQL*Plus to an Ora7 database. You cannot create a DB link between the two database either, if you are planning on doing that.
A solution is to install Ora8 client, which can connect to both Ora9 and Ora7 database (but a db link will stil be impossible).

  • Unable to connect oracle8i from forms developer6.0

    Hello!
I am unable to connect oracle 8i from forms 6.0 developer.
How can I resolve this issue.
Please reply me as soon as possible
    Thak you

    Hi there
First find out if you could connect to Oracle from SQL Plus. If you are able to do this, then copy the connection definition from this tnsnames.ora. This tnsnames.ora will be in Network\Admin folder. Copy this and replace it with Net80\Admin tnsnames.ora.
    This should work

    Any help much appreciated

Further to the above post, I thought I'd simplify my Apex Listener install just to see if I can connect to it via SQL Developer
So downloaded the latest version 2.0.8 and decided to configure and run the Listener on my pc whilst still connecting to the same database.
Operating system : Window 7 Pro 64 bit
    Oracle Apex Listener 2.0.8
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_25-b17)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode)
Went through the configuration as above, once started I tried again to access the listener via SQL Developer. This time I received this output from the listener:
INFO: Error: ORA-02291: integrity constraint (APEX_040200.WWV_FLOW_RT$APPROVALS_SGID_FK) violated - parent key not found, occurred during execution of: [CALL, insert into wwv_flow_rt$approvals (user_name,status,client_id,security_group_id,created_by,created_on,updated_by,updated_on) values(/*in:user_id*/?,/*in:status*/?,/*in:client_id*/?,/*in:tenant_id*/?,upper(/*in:user_id*/?),/*in:created*/?,upper(/*in:user_id*/?),/*in:created*/?), [tenant_id, in, class java.math.BigInteger], [client_id, in, class java.math.BigInteger], [user_id, in, class java.lang.String], [status, in, class oracle.dbtools.rt.oauth.ApprovalRequest$Status], [created, in, class java.sql.Timestamp]]with values: [adminlistener, APPROVED, 3858401374580004, -1, adminlistener, 2014-06-23 12:19:18.785, adminlistener, 2014-06-23 12:19:18.785]
SQL Developer responded with an Authentication Failed titled dialog with the following displayed in the body of the dialog
    Cannot connect to DEV.

    Thanks for the response..
    - Gautamno listener.ora file is required.

I have used the classes12.jar and ojdbc.jar which came with the download and nothing seems to work. A bit surprising when sqlplus works and not the application. I suspect there could be an issue with the driver class. I have been struggling to figure this out for days now...
Can anyone please share their thoughts if something similar was observed earlier please.
Any quick help will highly be appreciated.

    ORACLE_HOME=/opt/instantclient_10_2
export ORACLE_HOMEYou don't set ORACLE_HOME with Instant Client.
    PATH=$PATH:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    export PATHThis is unnecessary.
    CLASSPATH=/opt/instantclient_10_2:/opt/instantclient_10_2/ojdbc.jar
    export CLASSPATHThis is wrong.
    It should be:
    CLASSPATH=/opt/instantclient_10_2/ojdbc14.jar:<whatever else you need there>
    Java.library.path=/opt/instantclient_10_2
export Java.library.pathThis is useless; java.library.path is not an environment variable.
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no ocijdbc10 in java.library.pathThe case is pretty clear. You want to use the OCI driver (your URL starts with "jdbc:oracle:oci:"), so the Java Virtual Machine is looking for libocijdbc10.so in the Java library path but cannot find it.
What is also clear is that the program does not use the CLASSPATH environment variable you set, because then it would never have found the Oracle Driver.
So it seems that your program is ignoring the environment you set (which would explain why it also ignores LD_LIBRARY_PATH which you set correctly).
You must have the environment variables set and exported in the shell that starts the "java" executable.
Also, check that there is no other ojdbc14.jar on this machine (use "find").
To help you debug your problem, let me explain how Sun Java sets Java library path on Linux:
    - If you start java with "java -Djava.library.path=/some/dir:/other/dir ...", the Java library path is set to exactly that value.
    - If you do not specify -Djava.library.path, the Java library path is taken from the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
    - Directories listed in /etc/ld.so.conf have no influence on the Java library path (which gave me quite a headache in the beginning).
Do you really need the OCI Driver? If you can do with the Thin Driver (i.e., use an URL that starts with "jdbc:oracle:thin:") you don't need any shared libraries at all.

  • Unable to connect SQLState=08004 Oracle ODBC Ora-12154

    Hi Sir/Madam,
I am Wayne, I need your help to resolve my issue in oracle database 11g.
    1. I installed Oracle 11g Personal Edition, Release 11.2.0.10, 64bits,
    2. Test connection(oracle in oradb11g_home1) is successed in data source, odbc,
    2. Then, I tried to connect this with Visual Basic(Visual Studio 2010), data connections, add connections, .net framework data provider for oracle,
    3. but I received an error message as "Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException."
    4. Then, I download the ODAC(11.2.0.3.0) for 64bits, and installed,
    5. I tried to test the connection, but failed with error message as stated above,
"Unable to connect SQLState=08004 Oracle ODBC Ora-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified"
Could you please give me a help on this, do I need to install ODAC for 11g Personal Edition ? Please advice accordingly, thanks.

  • Unable to connect to Forms 6i from Oracle 9i

    Hi,
I have Oracle 9.2.0 (Personal edition) and Forms 6i installed on a Win2K PC.
I am able to connect to the DB from SQLPLUS. But, I am unable to connect to the DB from Forms 6i. I was getting a ORA-12203 error. Then I configured the DB connection through the Net Easy Config. Also I tried to copy the network/admin/tnsnames.ora file from my database ORACLE_HOME to the Developer Suite ORACLE_HOME. Now I am getting the ORA-12222 TNS: No such protocol adapter error.
Can anyone suggest where I am going wrong and what is that I need to do to resolve the problem.
    Thanks in advance!!!

Normaly forms6i uses Tnsnames.ora file to connect to the database. You need to setup your Tnsnames.ora file correctly by clicking Start---Programs---Directory for Oracle--Oracle net8 easy config, and configure your database connection.
