Unable to connect to a remote db using Sql Developer

hi,
I have 2 systems (A and B) both running on RHEL 6. A has Oracle 10G installed while B has Oracle 11G, and on both I have SQL Developer. A and B are cable networked with static IPs as below.
A 192.168.1.1
B 192.168.1.2
I am trying to connect to database on A from SQL Developer on B. On B, I open SQL developer, enter the connection name, username, password, hostname( or IP) of A, port #, and instance name and hit connect. It shows error about network adapter. I cannot connect.
Listners on both system are active, I can ping each system from each other. No issues with /etc/hosts either.
I am not sure then why it does not work. Would like to know if I can / should be able to connect like above ? What else should I look at to fix?
Shashi

Hello Sir,
Can you telnet to the server on 1521? (telnet A 1521)- failed. with no route error
However, I could telnet B from A without any prob. I then came across a workaround at
TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
which suggests to :
Go into the Security Level Configuration on your Linux server. In Other Ports, specifically enter <port>:tcp, (example 1521:tcp.
and it worked :)
I am still not sure, why I had to take the workaround route when there was no difference between 2 systems, in terms of route tables, host file entries, sqlnet.ora,listner.ora, etc . I am glad that the issue is resolved and I am able to connect from SQL Developer on A to db on B and other way round, but the the question still remains... :)

  • Cannot connect to database using SQL Developer

    Ok. Here are the facts:
    1) I can connect to the database using PL/SQL Developer.
    2) I wanted to try SQL Developer and I am unable to connect to the same database with SQL Developer. I provide username and password and select "network alias" and click test and I get "Network adaptor could not be established"
    3) TNS names.ora file resides on a mapped drive which clearly is accessible by PL/SQL developer but not by SQL developer.
    What am i missing?
    Thanks a lot

If you can select a network alias, then sqldeveloper has found your tnsnames and the problem lies elsewhere.
Is the network drive specified by a UNC? SQLDeveloper doesn't work well with unc names.

  • [Forum FAQ] "Unable to connect to the server by using Windows PowerShell Remoting" error while installing RDS roles on Server 2012 R2

When you try to install RDS role on server 2012 R2 using standard deployment, this issue may occur (Figure 1).
“Unable to connect to the server by using Windows PowerShell remoting”.
Figure 1: Unable to connect to the server by using Windows PowerShell remoting
First of all, we need to verify the configurations as it suggested:
    1. The server must be available by using Windows PowerShell remotely.
    2. The server must be joined to a domain.
    3. The server must be running at least Windows Server 2012 R2.
    4. The currently logged on user must be a member of the local Administrators group on the server.
    5. Remote Desktop Services connections must be enabled by using Group Policy.
In addition, we need to check if the “Windows Remote Management “service is running and related firewall exceptions have been created for WinRM listener.
To enabling PowerShell remoting, we can run this PowerShell command as administrator (Figure 2).
    Enable-PSRemoting -Force
    Figure 2: Enable PowerShell Remoting
However, if issue persists, we need to check whether it has enough memory to work.
By default, remote shell allots only 150 MB of memory. If we have IIS or SharePoint App pool, 150 MB of memory is not sufficient to perform the remoting task. Therefore, we need to increase
the memory via the PowerShell command below:
    Set-Item WSMan:\localhost\Shell\MaxMemoryPerShellMB 1000
Then, you need to restart the server and the issue should be resolved.
You can get more information regarding Remote Troubleshooting by below link:

i found another possible reason, this solution worked for me:
    http://oyvindnilsen.com/solution-for-powershell-remoting-error-it-cannot-determine-the-content-type-of-the-http-response-from-the-destination-computer/
I tried to set up powershell remoting on a server and kept getting this error:
Enter-PSSession : Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The WinRM client cann
ot process the request. It cannot determine the content type of the HTTP response from the destination comput
er. The content type is absent or invalid. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help to
    pic.
After a bit of troubleshooting I discovered that the problem was that the authentication packets was to big (over 16k), this will cause WinRM to reject the request. The reason for authentication packets getting too big can be because the user is member of very
many security groups or in my case because of the SidHistory attribute.
The solution was to increase the MaxFieldLength and MaxRequestBytes keys in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\HTTP\Parameters
If the keys does not exists you can create them, be sure to use the DWORD type.
I sat MaxFieldLength to DEC value 40000 and MaxRequestBytes to DEC value 32768 and rebooted the server. Problem solved.

We are using the Azure server for our web services. Server is generating an error "Unable to connect to the remote server". What is this error means

    Hello,
Did you means that you use the Windows Azure Virtual Machine DNS name as the server name in the Reporting Server Web Services URL?
    For example:
    Report server:http://uebi.cloudapp.net/reportserver
    Report manager:http://uebi.cloudapp.net/reports
If you want to connect to Report Manager on the virtual machine from a remote computer, you should create a  virtual machine TCP Endpoint and open the port in the virtual machine’s firewall. By default, the report server listens for HTTP requests
    on port 80.

  • JMS - Unable to connect to a remote server

    Hi All
I am trying to point my WL7.0 to a JMS QUEUE on ORACLE FUSION WL10.3
I am getting the following error message on myserver.log: (I deleted the port and ip)
<Unable to connect to a remote server on address ### and port ###
with protocol t3. The Exception is java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused>
I have seen a post that implied that there is a bug in WL7.0 , but I am not sure that this is the case.
When the JMS queues are on the same server .i.e WL7.0 to WL7.0 it is fine.
    Can anyone help ?

There could be compatibility issues. Refer to "WebLogic Server Compatibility".

  • Power Query online search: Unable to connect to the remote server

This is the error I get after I click add to worksheet. I see th preview of the data. I am in an enterprise behind a proxy if that helps.
[DataSource.Error] OData: Request failed (ConnectFailure): Unable to connect to the remote server
    Stephen

OData is a web service and so long as you can access it from your current network context, it'll work. Home, Internet Café, Hotel, Airplane -- doesn't matter. If the data source is private and is on a restricted network (like some sort of private data analysis
source internal to your company), then you will need to VPN into that network before you attempt to refresh your data.
I have noted some basic steps in my blog that might help you setup the basics and verify with a known publically available OData source.

  • ORA-28511: lost RPC connection to heterogeneous remote agent using SID=

I am currently using the HS DG4ODBC on 11.2.0.3 with Linux X86-32bit platform, and I’ve gotten the gateway to work for all DML operations via DBLinks against a TimesTen database.
However, I am getting the following error in red when trying to execute the DBMS_COMPARISON package: ORA-28511: lost RPC connection to heterogeneous remote agent using SID=ORA-28511: lost RPC connection to heterogeneous remote agent using SID=(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=timesten-hol)(PORT=1521))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=hsodbc1)))
An internet search about the error leads me to think that this is a config issue with the cause being that:
Cause: The listener is unable to spawn the HS agent or the agent cannot find the ODBC lib directory.
Action: The PROGRAM line in the listener.ora file is incorrect or not specified. Make sure LD_LIBRARY_PATH includes the $ODBC_HOME/lib directory. If not, set LD_LIBRARY_PATH and restart the listener.
But I’ve revisited the settings and they all look OK, and also the HS agent seems to work fine for all types of DML operations on TimesTen, so I am at a loss of why the above error is occurring with dbms_comparison.compare.
I am also using the datadirect ODBC driver manager.
    Thanks,

You've already filed a bug for this issue ( DG4ODBC CORE DUMP WHEN USING DBMS_COMPARISON.COMPARE) so please close this thread.

  • SSRS 2012 with SharePoint 2010: Unable to connect to the remote server

We had originally installed SSRS 2012 with SP 2010 and I did not like how the installation was configured, so we uninstalled everything and removed the SSRS server from the SharePoint farm and uninstalled all the SQL bits (SSRS was deployed to web tier in
    sharepoint mode).
I've since added a new application server to host the SSRS SharePoint Mode and Installed the reporting services add-in on the WFE.   For reference, I have 1 WFE and 2 App Servers.  the WFE has the Reporting Service Add-in and both App Servers have
the SharePoint mode of SSRS installed as described here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh479774(v=sql.110).aspx
I've also installed the Service Application and all seems to work well up until I make an attempt to create a report or data source on the WFE.
It looks like somewhere, the WFE is still looking to connect to the original SSRS machine we installed.  I've gone through registry, config files and the SharePoint config database to see if I can see where the reference value is.  Still can't
find it anywhere.  None of the Reporting commandlets are helping.
    Technically what is occurring;

    Hi,
i think this has to do with the "Document Conversions Load Balancer Service".
If you don't need the service than try to stop it:
Start Central Administration > Operations > Services and stop the service.
    or
If you need it the service, try this:
Start Central Administration > Operations > Service Account
Change the service account to "Document Conversions Load Balancer Service" And Select a "Network Services" Click Save
    Hope this helps!

  • AzCopy worked, suddenly stopped working, unable to connect to the remote server

AzCopy was working fine, I was transferring about 670 files to my Azure Files storage account on "https://blah.file.core.windows.net/myshare" (that's not the real account), then it stopped after about 400 files.
Now it continually gives the error "Error parsing destination location
https://blah.file.core.windows.net/myshare: Unable to connect to the remote server."
However it works from a different computer with a completely different IP address in another part of the country.
I am 100% sure my azcopy command is correct, because it worked for about 400 files then stopped, and the exact same command no longer works.  I have tried it with both the primary and secondary keys.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled azcopy 4.1
    and that doesn't help.
Is Azure blocking IPs somehow?  What could be wrong?

The "<cfexchangeConnection>" tag supports both "HTTP"

Also try removing the <!--- protocol = "http"--->
comment which you placed inside the "<cfexchangeConnection>"

    Hi,
It looks like the gateway connection has been closed for some reason and then you have tried to use it again in the same session which gives the ORA-28511.
There is a default gateway timeout but that is 20 minutes, whereas you are seeing problem after about 4 minutes and the listener timeout is set to 0.
Do you have any timeout settings configured in sqlnet.ora ?

    - gateway init<sid>.ora
    - gateway tnsnames.ora file
    - create database link statement
    - a gateway debug trace from the failing select. Add the following to the gateway init<sid>.ora file -
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=debug
and issue a select from a new SQLPLUS session, then end the session.
Are the gateway and the RDBMS in the same or different ORACLE_HOME directories ? The gateway is at a lower version than the RDBMS so you should apply the 11.1.0.7 patchset to the ORACLE_HOME where the gateway is installed, to bring it to 11.1.0.7.
