Not able to find sqlnet.ora
Hello,
I am unable to find my sqlnet.ora in the network directory. I have to set SQLNET.EXPIRES parameter, but dont have that file in location.
even i do a echo $TNS_ADMIN i am not getting anything. no path.
Oracle 10.2.0.3
Sun Solaris 10.
Thanks
apsFollow the steps:
1) cd $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
2) do ls to confirm that listener.ora, tnsnames.ora and (maybe) sqlnet.ora exist there
3) do pwd to ensure that you are in correct place
4) if sqlnet.ora doesn't exist do vi sqlnet.ora
5) put there anything you need e.g.
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)
SQLNET.EXPIRE=10
Here you have sample configuration files:

SQL query to find sqlnet.ora parameters
Hi All,
I am working 11g RAC /solaris 9
I want have sql query to find values of sqlnet.ora parameters
May be values of SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT
SQLNET.SEND_TIMEOUT, SQLNET.RECV_TIMEOUT
Thanks
rajThe sqlnet.ora file is the profile configuration file. It resides on the client machines and the database server.
Profiles are stored and implemented using this file. The database server can be configured with access control parameters in the sqlnet.ora file.
These parameters specify whether clients are allowed or denied access based on the protocol.
The sqlnet.ora file enables you to do the following:
Specify the client domain to append to unqualified names
Prioritize naming methods
Enable logging and tracing features
Route connections through specific processes
Configure parameters for external naming
Configure Oracle Advanced Security
Use protocol-specific parameters to restrict access to the database
By default, the sqlnet.ora file is located in the ORACLE_HOME/network/admin directory. The sqlnet.ora file can also be stored in the directory specified by the TNS_ADMIN environment variable.
You can not query on this file sqlnet.ora as tnsnames.ora file.

Unable to find concurrent.ora
I was trying to set up Oracle adapter and was not able to locate concurrent.ora file. Due to recent updates in the edocs/download section..you won't be able to find BEA_ORACLEAPPS_8_1.ear file.
If anyone has this ear file then please extarct this ear file and send concurrent.ora script.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
ThanksHi Kuldeep,
Thanks for replying. Believe me BEA has removed this BEA_ORACLEAPPS_8_1.ear file since Iway implementation for oracle adapter. Now its hard to locate concurrent.ora since there is no more EAR file concept in the new adapter implementation.
If you have the old version already installed in your PC then please extract the ear file and send concurrent.ora.
Thanks -
BRCONNECT unable to find oracle library
Hi
After SAP upgrade to Netweaver 7.0 with Oracle 10.2 on HP-UX system, the BRCONNECT program unable to execute DBA jobs. It is ending with following error with user <sid>adm

And if I run it using user ora<sid>, it ends with insufficient privileges.

The roles granted to users OPS$<SID>ADM and OPS$ORA<SID> are RESOURCE, CONNECT and SAPDBA.
please provide your inputs on these issues i.e. how to make the oracle library available when running brconnect using <sid>adm user and how to remove the "ORA-01031: insufficient privileges" when running brconnect using ora<sid> user.
Thanks
VinodHi All
I have tried executing it on <sid>adm commandline but it is giving same error.

Cannot find tnsnames.ora error message
We are using oracle 10.2.0.1 via Toad. I get a cannot find tnsnames.ora file error message and see only a tnsnames.ora file in the sample file under the c:\ORACLE\product\10.2.0.1\NETWORK\ADMIN\ directory.
Do I need to create this file, and if so how do I do this?
Thanks in advance for your help
regards,
user12943453Do I need to use the TNSNames Editor? No need for tnsnames.ora or SQL*net to access local DB
Can I just use direct connect and the sqlnet editor?YES! -
ERR-1002 Unable to find item ID
Hi. can any one help me to resolve this issue
ERR-1002 Unable to find item ID for item "P801_LISTP801_NG_PO_NUMBER" in application "1000300".
Unexpected error, unable to find item name at application or page level.Hi,
That does not look like an Oracle error message (They usually start with ORA-)
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14219/toc.htm
Perhaps someone coded that inside some application?
Anyway, if you believe it to be an Oracle exception should write just a little about the situation causing this, along with a stack trace.

Hi
I am restoring a hot backup taken through RMAN using following commands:
configure controlfile autobackup on;
BACKUP DATABASE ;
BACKUP ARCHIVELOG ALL DELETE INPUT;
Now I am going to restore that using following commands:
restore spfile from autobackup;
restore controlfile from autobackup;
shutdown immediate;
startup mount;
restore database;
RECOVER DATABASE;
ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;
But it goes fine till restore database. At recover database I get following errors:
archived log for thread 1 with sequence 2461 is already on disk as file /u01/app/oracle/fast_recovery_area/XE/onlinelog/o1_mf_1_8fbs9bvt_.log

I have checked the backup folder and there are only empty date wise folders under archivedlog folders.

I don't mind if some data is lost. Will be really thankful if someone can help me get my database open;
HabibThey way you are trying to recover will try to recover up to the last know SCN. Try to do a point in time recover up to a few minutes before the database was shutdown or crashed.
Try something like this
run{
set until time "to_date('2013-09-11:00:00:00', 'yyyy-mm-dd:hh24:mi:ss')";
restore spfile from autobackup;
restore controlfile from autobackup;
shutdown immediate;
startup mount;
restore database;
RECOVER DATABASE;
ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS; -
SAPDBA gives error Unable to find library 'libclntsh.sl.8.0'
Hello All,
I brought up a new QAS system by copying oracle and sap executables, followed by restore from online backup.
i followed the post described below:
How to build a new SAP system
The oracle DB is up and running and sap is also up.
When i try to execute sapdba,logged in as both SID<adm> and ora<SID>
I get the follwoing error:
<b>/usr/lib/pa20_64/dld.sl: Unable to find library 'libclntsh.sl.8.0'.
Segmentation fault</b>
other tools like svrmgrl and sqlplus works fine.
Upon investigation i found that, i did not copy /oracle/client and that is causing this error.
I copied the following /oracle directories
/oracle/SID
/oracle/version_number
/oracle/stage
I did not copy the following directories
/oracle/client
/oracle/oraInventory
/oracle/jre
/oracle/oui
Since the system is up and running already , is it ok for me to copy the left out directories now? Also are they all needed essentially or just /oracle/client is enough.
Please help me as this is very urgent task. Any help with be greatly appreciated with points.
Thanks,
Basis learnerHello Prince,
I followed your guidelines to build this QA system. Thanks a lot for that. Copied the executables of oracle and sap and restored from online backup.
The System is up and running. Only sapdba command is giving the error message.
I copied the oracle executable from PRD to QAS and i didnot install from scratch.
The SAP version is 4.6B running on Oracle 8.1.7.4 over HP-UX11i
My concern if i bring down both SAP and DB and copy over the /oracle/Client directory from PRD to QAS , will it cause any issue in bringing the system backup?
also this error from sapdba, is it caused due to missing /client directory only?
Oracle Metalink says:
Stop the instance and listener and then recreate LIBCLNTSH.SL.8.0:
1. %cd $OH/bin
2. %genclntsh64
Then relink : relink utilities
But this fix is for the symptom:
<b>symptom: Running SQLLDR gives error</b>
In My case, the symptom is Running sapdba gives this error
what will be the impact if i do so now? any directions will be greatly appreciated.
Please guide.
Thanks in Advance,

Can't find tnsnames.ora
Hi,
I install Instant Client on Linux using rpm. I need to edit the tnsnames.ora, but I can't find it.
Can I copy one instance of tnsnames.ora and set TNS_ADMIN=<the path of tnsname.ora directory> as and enviornment variable on your client machine?
Thank youNo tnsnames.ora is included with Instant Client, you have to create (or copy, as you do) your own.
You did the right thing, TNS_ADMIN must point to the directory containing tnsnames.ora.
If you have an sqlnet.ora file, it must be in the same directory.

Tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora & listener.ora files are not exit
DB version: 10.2
Hello All,
I just joined the project and notice tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora & listener.ora files are not exit under $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin.
But still we can connect to the database,
From command prompt or via enterprise manager studio from client site.
Any idea?
OR
what is the best way to create above files in the existing database?
DNtnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora are client side files, listener.ora and sqlnet.ora are server side files.
Listener.ora need not exist if using defaults and dynamic registration of services. It may be possible to cope without all those files, depending on the environment.
Is the database on the local or remote computer and how are you connecting (from sqlplus)?
Maybe you have a tnsnames.ora somwhere else? (Try using find command) Maybe TNS_ADMIN is set? -
Command to determine path used to find tnsnames.ora
How can know (with command or similar) the path that uses Oracle client to find tnsnames.ora file?
We need a command because not always we have administrator permissions on a workstation to make a regedit or to see environment variables, but we have to determine causes of problem connections.
If I’m working with client on UNIX, ‘tnsping name’ command shows a path of sqlnet.ora, usually the same that tnsnames.ora is allocated. Under windows doesn’t display information about this.
For example:
On UNIX:
tnsping ####

Used parameter files:
/software/oracle/product/9.2.0/network/admin/sqlnet.ora
On WINDOWS:
C:\>tnsping ####

TNS-03505: Message 3505 not found; No message file for product=NETWORK, facility
=TNS
Exists any command to do it or any command that shows this information?
Thank you very much!!!
Marc.Hi!
In windows you also get the message what sqlnet.ora was used.
The error message you get
TNS-03505: Message 3505 not found; No message file for product=NETWORK, facility=TNSlooks like there is something wrong with your client installation, it can't find it's message file so you don't get your sqlnet.ora path. I suppose in your case knowing the location of tnsnames.ora wouldn't help since your client isn't installed correctly.
Regards,
PP
