Unable to load applet on one machine, but runs fine on others

Hi there
I have created and deployed, successfully, a JavaFX applet which I tested on my development machine and a separate machine and all is fine. The Applet with its associated HTML, JNLP and JAR file reside on a webserver, and my testing was still successful (and another colleague tried also).
I proudly announced the location to others within the organisation (sorry I am not able to share the URL) and one person reported that all was fine, they loaded and used the application, the other reported the following error message:
Ignored exception: java.lang.NullPointerException
exception: JNLP file error: xxx_browser.jnlp. Please make sure the file exists and check if "codebase" and "href" in the JNLP file are correct..
java.io.FileNotFoundException: JNLP file error: xxx_browser.jnlp. Please make sure the file exists and check if the "codebase" an "href" in the JNLP file are correct.

     at sun.plugin2.applet.Plugin2Manager$appletExecutionRunnable.run(Unknown Source)
     at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown source)
Exception: java.io.FileNotFoundException: JNLP file error: xxx_browser.jnlp
This person, who is in a remote site (so not yet been able to visit the machine) is using Windows XP, IE 6.0. I have a machine which also runs this setup and can load the application.
I am really unsure what could be the problem. I have even asked the user to load the Winter Olympics JavaFX visualisation to see if that works (it does).
Can anyone give me any advise? I am guessing it is a problem local to that machine, rather than the JavaFX application?

Hi there
An update on this situation. I managed to visit said machine on Friday and found the following:
1 - The error in the Java console is:
java.io.FileNotFoundException: JNLP file error: XXX_browser.jnlp. Please make sure the file exists and check if "codebase" and "href" in the JNLP file are correct.
2 - I was able to browse, and resolve, the XXX_browser.jnlp file
3 - The client was able to load other JavaFX applets from the same server/website but they were not behind any password protection.
4 - The client is able to use the JavaFX application via the XXX.jnlp file (i.e. web start)
Whilst on site I noticed that IE was reporting "Could not find privacy policy for http://dl.javafx.com/ping.js". I added this site to the browsers accepted list, and marked this as Always allow this site to use cookies but to no avail.
Remember, this site does work for another user.
My thinking now is, when executing the URL to load the HTML you have to enter a password, (which we did), this loads the HTML which then tries to load the JAR file (in the same location) but for some reason it in turn cannot load it XX_browser.jnlp file and it is does not challenge for a username and password again (like it does when you run it as a web start).
Any thoughts?

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Appearance tab. Tick the box next to: Display images when the page opens.
If that box is already ticked, from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset. Relaunch Safari. If you still have problems loading images, go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
Make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.
If you still have problems, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

  • Audio chat works on one machine, but not on the other!

    First up, my setup:
Comcast Cable Modem -> Linksys Router -> iMac (Core2Duo), PowerBook (G4), Vonage
Both systems running OS X 10.4.10. Both systems are connected through their Airport cards (ethernet cables are pulled) to the router.
To better debug the problem I turned the Firewall and LittleSnitch off on both systems.
The router's firewall is turned off as well.
Port forwarding is also checked, and the PowerBook is not even listed having any ports forwarded at all (that's the one iChat audio chat works).
There must be something blocking the iMac... but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help greatly appreciated!
Here the error message when trying to start a audio chat on the iMac:

well, i updated the router (latest firmware is from april 2006!). rebooted the modem, then the router, restarted ichat. same problem unfortunately. however i found some geeky cool-aid on macosxhints. a shell script which configures the router to enable dmz, and another one to disable dmz. with a little shell script one should be able to enable dmz, start ichat. and upon quitting ichat disable dmz. not the best solution, but this will help me out...
thanks to tony for his help! (we should send him a fruit basket or something 8)

  • Hyperlinks won't work on some (my client's) machines but are fine on others

    Hi All,
I’m stuck on an infuriating problem and I'm really hoping someone here may be able to help.
I’ve created a report for a client which includes several hyperlinks to URL’s. These work perfectly on my PC, also on my MacBook (in both Acrobat and Preview) but the client is not seeing them at all – and they’re trying them on several machines apparently (both Mac & PC runing Acrobat Reader). I’ve had another friend test the PDF on his MacBook and he sees the links, but they don’t work entirely as they should.
I’ve been through all the Adobe help pages and thought I’d found the solution by unchecking the ‘Shared Hyperlink Destination’ box – but that’s not made any difference. I’ve played with the settings on exporting the PDF; I’ve tried the >Export> Adobe PDF (interactive) way; I’ve tried defining my own pre-set with Incldue-Hyperlinks checked; I’ve tried deleting the hyperlinks from InDesign and manually inserting them from inside Acrobat Pro – all to no avail!
    HELP!
This is a new client with a whole stack of work lined up for me and this has been the only problem with this job – so I need to find a solution!!
    Thanks,
    Luke

    Hi Sandeep,
Thanks for responding - in answer to your questions:
    - there are no links to local files, all URL's starting http://www.
    - I'm using Acrobat Pro X (although also checking it in plain old Acrobat Reader)
    - I'm creating it with InDesign CS5
    - The links are definitely there when I open it up in Acrobat. I've evn tried setting the links up using Acrobat to test if it was a problem exporting from InDesign but that also didn't work for them.
I'm checking with the client now about the version(s) of Acrobat Reader they're on and also asking them to check the links within it. Are there any settings their end which could stop them working do you know? They've told me older documents with URL hyperlinks are still working fine, so wouldn't appear to be that.
I'm afraid this file is confidential, so I can't really share.
The latest test I've tried are to create a new 'for web' document and that seems to have helped testing on a different machine, although I'm waiting to see if it's had any effect with the client. I cannot think of any other things to try right now!
Thanks for all your help - any more suggestions or advice you can offer will be much appreciated!
    Regards,
    Luke

  • Leave stuff on one device but remove from the other

    Hello,
how do I remove music from my ipad 2 but leave it on my iphone 4s?  Same question for apps and photos, what if I want to remove certain apps on one device but leave on the other?  Does iTunes recognice each device as its own entity?

so will itunes remember which items I choose to sync or not sync depending on which device is plugged into the computer everytime I plug a device in?
    Yes.
What if I only want certain songs on one and all songs on the other device, does itunes remember the checked songs or unchecked songs depending on which device is plugged into the computer?
    Yes.
If you have a Mac, you can have multiple devices plugged in and syncing simultaneously. They'll be treated as independent devices (because that's what they are).
This is the way all Apple devices have worked right from the very first iPod over 10 years ago.

  • CL_WD_RUNTIME_SERVICES= ATTACH_FILE_TO_RESPONSE( ) works in one system but does not in other

    Hi folks,
We are facing an issue here with a custom web dynpro application that export an excel. The following piece of code has been written in this application to export an excel:
    cl_wd_runtime_services=>attach_file_to_response(
           EXPORTING
             i_filename      = c_filename
             i_content       = xtext
             i_mime_type     = c_mimetype
             i_in_new_window = abap_false
             i_inplace       = abap_false ).
Now, the issue is this - it works fine in one system but does not in other system. HttpWatch shows ERROR_HTTP_INVALID_SERVER_RESPONSE in the system where it does not work. Any ideas?

  • HT201250 i would like to use time machine but also back up other file to my external drive?

I just got a WD T3 external hard drive and I would like to use time machine but also back up other files that to the drive.  Can anyone help me out.
    Thanks Mark

You would need to go to your Applications folder>Utilities>Disk Utility> and there create Two Partitions on your external hard drive, naming them differently.  Then you could go back to your desktop, open the dock, right click on the Time Machine icon and select "Open Time Machine Preferences". In there select the external hard drive Partition that you want to use for TM.  The other external drive partition will be available for other uses.
    Hope this helps

  • HELP!! WRT54G2 works for one computer, but not for the other

I have a WRT54G2 and it is connected to 2 computers. The internet works in one computer, but not on the other. The tech support said i needed to configure it or firmware or something like that. But my product is out of warranty and I really need the internet on the other computer as well. Please Help!!!

As your one computer is working fine then there is no problem with the router so far...
The computer which is not working...check the IP Address on that...
Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection IP Address , Subnet Mask and Default Gateway...
IP Address should be 192.168.1.x, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1 (assuming your router is 192.168.1.1)...
If you get the above mentioned IP Address, Subnet and Gateway Address then you should ping the Gateway, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...If it gives you request timed out then disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer...
If you get 4 replies then type ping 4.2.2.2 and press Enter, if you get request timed out, then you need to upgrade your router's firmware...If you get 4 replies then type ping yahoo.com and press Enter...If you get replies for Yahoo then you should get the Internet after adjusting the browser settings...
Adjusting Browser Settings : Open an IE, click Tools >> Internet Options, then delete all files, cookies, history, forms...Goto "Connections", make sure Never Dial a Connection is checked, click on LAN Settings and make sure all the options are unchecked...Once you are done click on O.k...Close the IE and re-open it...
If yahoo times out then provide static DNS on your LAN Connection...
Click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>>Network Connections- Right click on the icon for Local Area Connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the Following DNS Settings' Preferred DNS 4.2.2.2 Alternate DNS - 192.168.1.1>>Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...You should be able to go online...

  • Why WINDOWS 8.1 won't install/load on PC where WIN 8 runs Fine ?

Why WINDOWS 8.1 won't install/load on PC where WIN 8 runs Fine ?
As far as System Requirements go, they are the same for WIN 8 and WIN 8.1
    Sympton:
Windows 8.1 Installation DVD loads for some time, no circle of dots, then PC reboots
with quick flash of six lines or so of white text (on black backgound) @ 106 seconds
Needed to use Smart Phone video camera to capture
    Your PC needs to restart.
Please hold down the power button ...
    Error Code:0x000000C4
    Parameters:
    0x000...91
    0x000... F
    0xFFFFF800699C5A80
    0x00000000000000000
    0x00000000000000001
Presumably message is intended for frozen PC, hence 'hold down power button'
In this case it flashes and re-boots
Windows 8.1 Image loads quickly, flash and reboots PC, having corrupted boot entry
(thankfully not other entries in Boot Manager situated on Dell System Reserved Partition)
    PC Desktops affected:
    Dimension 5000 - shipped JAN'05
    RAM 4GB
    Intel Pentium 4 640 3.20Ghz 64bit NX enabled
    ATI Radeon HD 6450
    Dimension 5150c/XPS 200 -shipped MAR'05
    RAM 3GB
    Intel Pentium D 820 2.80Ghz 64bit NX enabled
    Intel 82945G WDDM 1.0
Both the above PC's Install and run Windows 8 without a hiccup
    Another 'ancient' machine, but unaffected:
    Precision 490 Desktop - shipped OCT'07
    RAM 4GB
    2 x XEON 5365 3.0Ghz
ATI HD 6450 (Now HD 7750)
All 8.0 & 8.1 clean Installs and Upgrades on this platform had no problems
Hope some of you can throw some light on this. What does WIN 8.1 do in the boot
process that WIN 8 does not?
And if anybody has encounterd this before...
Note to multi booters - keep or reinstall Dell or other System Reserved partition (PRI,Active)
EasyBCD/Windows Boot Manager held on this partition (eg. 350MB)
If it gets corrupted, you can Restore it, rather than Gigabytes of 1st Primary O/S
Also, it will solve a lot of problems, when manipulating/adding/backing up/restoring O/S's
    That's it, happy computing...

Fellow user from St. Louis, Missouri pointed in the right direction. I'm grateful
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Running upgrade assistant (going to Store rejects CPU, but no details)
    Results in:
    X You can't install Windows 8.1 because your processor doesn't support LAHF/SAHF.
X You can't install Windows 8.1 because your processor doesn't support PrefetchW.
There are at least three Processor requirements that M'soft does not list for WIN 8.1
and it's fairly well documented, if you ask the right question, eg.:
    http://www.pcworld.com/article/2058683/new-windows-8-1-requirements-strand-some-users-on-windows-8.html
So that's it, exclusion by 'stealth' - at least M'soft told you that processor required NX - Execute Disable Bit
    for Windows 8
For Intel units, look out for 'VT-x. Have a processor on the way, but will Motherboard pass CMPXCHG16b test?
    AND PrefetchW AND LAHF/SAHF
Windows 8 support ends 2015, that means people who bought it will have had 2 years use
WIN 8.1 Upgrade/Update (sic) is free, but costly if it won't run on your machine
So, those many people who decried Windows 8 and stuck to WIN 7, were right after all
Early supporters of WIN 8, have been 'betrayed'
'Minimum Requirement for Processor 1Ghz - don't make me laugh! (Presumably for Phone 8)
M'soft have a 'more info' link on System Requirements page, so why not spell it out...
Otherwise it looks like a PR/Cosmetic exersize

Director 12 IOS app quits on iPod after a second after loaded, but runs fine on iPad.  Any way to get it works on both?
ipod - generation 3 - 2010 Spring (the last one before it got a camera)
    ipad - generation 3 - 2012 summer

"what does it take to get final apps working on an iOS 7 iPad"
Well most of the school made tutorials that i've seen over years, didn't really have too much code, so it may not take much at all to get it working - it might even work straight away.
There's always some work required - but the pay off will be worth the effort.
Problems to look out for :-
    can't use 3rd party xtras,
    can't use embedded fonts,
can't have easy keyboard entry (you'll need to redesign everything for touch),
scroll text fields need a bit of reworking,
11khz sounds files need to be set higher,
some 8 bit graphics bomb out,
there are some lingo commands that just seem to bomb out the app (work around these with other lingo commands!)
embedded Flash objects need a little bit of work to get them working right,
videos need to be in swf format.
If you're only running them on (in school) iPads - i'd say go with the side loading option.
best not to bother with the app store - if you can.
There are a few other enterprise options that might also suit.

  • People picker is not working for ie11 but working fine for other lower version

i am using sharepoint 2010 and windows authentication
recently i have updated my ie to ie11 and problem goes here.
when i try to select from people picker, there are an unexpected error happened
however when i use other ie version, people picker work fine, what goes wrong?
i have already added my system as trusted site
if there any others thing i miss out?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that People picker is not working for ie11 but working fine for other lower version.
IE 11 is known to have compatibility issues on SharePoint 2010, please make sure to:
first of all, try installing latest update for IE 11 (several compatibility issues were fixed since the first release)
add the site to compatibility view (in IE> Tools> Compatibility view settings> type site name> add)
add the site to trusted sites and set the zone security level to low (in IE> Internet Options> Security> trusted sites> sites>add your site there> ok> custom level> select low> reset> ok)
You can use developer tools (f12) and set browser mode to the version that is most compatible with your environment.

  • I have a Mac running 10.9.2. My wireless mouse with not scroll in mail but works fine in other applications? Any suggestions?

I have a Mac running 10.9.2. My apple wireless mouse will not scroll in Mail but works fine in other applications.
    Any suggestions?

First, see this discussion. If the solution suggested there doesn't work for you, continue.
If you've installed a Mail plugin called "Mail Unread Menu" and you know how to remove it, please do that, then quit and relaunch Mail. Test. Otherwise, see below.
    Back up all data.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder may open, or you may get an error message that the item can't be found. Either result is normal. If the folder does open and has contents, move the contents to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail and test. If there's no change, put the contents of the folder back and quit Mail again.
    2. Repeat with this line:
    /Library/Mail/Bundles
This time you may be prompted for your login password when you remove the items. Make sure they're removed from the folder and not just copied to the Desktop. If necessary, copy them first and then move the originals to the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
