Unable to properly read a binary .xls file in a unicode system.

Hello,
We are currently upgrading to ecc 6 unicode
from a non unicode ecc5 system and we have
found several problems reading files for
Excel in place (sap office intergration).
We have an excel file with macros scripted
within it and it, parts of the file are in
hebrew.
We use open dataset for input command to
provide the data to the sap integration
methods.
In ecc5, no additional parameters were
needed for the command.
In the unicode system, the file isn't read
properly even when providing codepage for
the file in legacy binary mode (I tried '1800' and '1810' for hebrew).
When compared to a non unicode system, it seems
that some of the binary data is missing and some
characters are missing and instead appear
like squares.
this leads to the file not being read at
all.
Is there any method to read the file with
the characters in it properly , or force it
to use the non unicode read method?
Best regards, Yoav

  • Read from binary measure file starting a specified time

I have a write to measure VI running on a data acquisition. It's saving data in a binary format with XML headers from a channel.
I want to have the capability of reading back in the data starting at a specified time. What's the best way to do it? In another words, I don't want to read in the entire file from the beginning. I want the ability to start a specified time. I know that t0 is saved. I have the sampling frequency.
    Thanks.

I assume that you are writing to a TDM file. If you want to perform random reads, you can do so with the binary file that contains the raw data. I've attached a VI that writes
a 100x1 array in a binary file and you can then read back the element you need without having to read all the data from the file. The Set File Position allows you to do so.

  • Put "BigInt" value to a file in a unicode system

    Hi there,
does anyone have an idea, how i am able to put a "BigInt"-value (i suppose, this is an ABAP INT4) into an interfaces file if the system is an unicode system?
I know the class cl_abap_char_utilities for to insert e.g. a tab character into a file under unicode conditions, but i don't know, how to move an INT4 value to a string oder char variable and to inhibit the system to convert anything, when writing to an ASCII file system.
Thanks in advance to any ideas!

  • Help! How to read N9500 .doc/.xls files in E90??

Is there any file converter or specific application to read N9500 office file (.doc, .xls) in e90?? geez.. very annoying indeed..
    thanx

With N9500 you can save to different format? So save in 9500 to different format and the should at least be opened in PC and again maybe in E90 also.
    So, 9500:
Menu, Save, Save as... And Change format. Default is epoc / symbian i think (though odd if E90 does not support symbian format)

  • Can't read .doc or .xls files from Safari!

Not sure if this is a bug or an intended deletion, but I can;t open .xls or .doc attachments from my browser-based email. My work email uses Outlook Web Access and the company will not allow mobile devices except the Blackberry to access the mail server. How can I read attachments to web-based emails through Safari???

I figured out that if the email is formatted as plain text, an attachment coming into iPhone Mail from Outlook can be read, whereas if the email message is in HTML format (my PC Outlook default), it cannot.
This could well be a good workaround for you - send your email message in plain text format whenver you include an attachment.
Has anyone figured out a way to solve this - where you can view an attachment to an HTML formatted email?

  • Saving Vector of BufferedImages to binary .mat file

    Hi,
I have a matlab file that reads in Binary .mat files. These files are made up of sections of images.
I've used Java to create these sections and therefore need to save the vector of bufferedimages to a .mat binary file.
    I've been using the
    File file = new File("test.mat");
    ObjectOutputStream out = new ObjectOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(file));
out.writeObject(patches); syntax but when I attempted to read the file into my matlab code I got the following error:
Unable to read MAT-file patches\test.mat: not a binary MAT-file.Does anyone know how to save as a binary .mat file?
    Cheers
    N

I still can't find any sources of how to save a .mat
binary file in Java, unless I'm something glaringly
obvious on the page you posted (quite possible)
Most probably you are going to have to write lots of code to take your data and format it according to the 'mat' file specification. You might just be lucky an find code off the peg but I doubt it!
Be prepared for some late nights!

    This.
Unless you can explain exactly why the destination must be xls and no other format is acceptable, I'm going to close the thread. What is this third party tool? Why can it only read the obsolete xls file format.
I'm going through this thread and rejecting all the responses that attempt a solution that isn't xls.
I'm surprised that the OP thought that simply saving with an xls file extension would cause some magic to happen and produce an actual Excel file.

  • Read data from .xls and store it in blob

    Hi,
I am getting the file using CLIENT_GET_FILE_NAME. I need to read the data from the .xsl file and convert it into blob. The file should not be stored in DB.
Please help me by providing suggestions / solutions.
    Thanks.

    InoL,
You can use an OLE Container or you can use a database stored procedure to write the file to the BLOB or extract the file from the BLOB. Then, using WebUtil you can serve the file to the the user. Of course, you would use WebUtil to allow the user to upload the document to the server so you can call the stored proc to load the file into the BLOB.
The file should not be stored in DB.Hence my question:
Why do you want to store the raw data from the spreadsheet in a BLOB instead of the file in a BLOB?What is the business requirement and how do you plan on using the data once it is stored in the BLOB?
If it is a hard requirment to not store the file, then tharnini has to figure out how to take the contents read from the .xls file using WebUtil and store this in the BLOB. More importantly, how do you take the contents of the file stored in the BLOB and write it back out to a file in the same format as the original file so the user can view the information.
I've not done this using the aforementioned method - I've not done using the OLE container either. ;-)

That VI returns the value of the cell, not the formatted string. The issue with time values between Excel and LabVIEW has been brought up numerous times before. Excel does not use the same datetime starting point as LabVIEW. See, for example, this discussion: http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Read-custom-excel-time-data-in-LabView/m-p/775359

  • Opening .xls file with Numbers

I saved a spreadsheet from Numbers '09 version 2.0 in .xls format and then tried to open it, but Numbers won't open it because off a reported problem with the plug-in to do that, "SFCompatibility plug-in." This used to work, I think. Perhaps the latest operating system update messed it up. (I have OS X 10.8.5.) Software update says there is no update for any of my apps. My Numbers software is in Applications/iWork '09.

I was not "fooled by Excel's ability to recognize the file format and apply the correct converter automaticallY"
What i mean is some people will export as a text file, but change the file extension to xls to force it to open excel when double clicked, and excel will open it just fine. Converting as it goes automaticaly and not even asking you any questions or putting up any errors.
I know because i just did it to validate my statement (I am working at a Windows machine at the moment), and it worked fine. Even though the file was actually a tab delimited file, with an XLS on the end. If excel was strict, it would have looked for a Binary XLS file and rejected the file.
This does NOT work with XLSX formats. You will get an error that its not formatted correctly. So if excel was able to recognize file formats and apply the correct converter automatically. they removed this ability in 2007+, only leaving it as legacy functionality.
Your statement would be accurate for plain txt files. But excel is NOT ablel to ID the format automatically.
Try saving a comma separated file with a  TXT extension, then try to open it by selecting "files of type" All files, in  an open dialog. It will start the converter for text files but will ALWAYS suggest Tab delimited. never the proper format if anything else. (we use Pipe | delimeted very often at work)
thereby I present you the possibility that it is you that has been fooled by Excel into thinking it knows what its doing

  • Opening Error: Colors could not be properly read

After HD failure, replacement, and HD contents recovery, other iLife applications seem to function correctly, but iWeb (version 1.1.2) opens existing site with some images absent, some incorrect colors, and the following message:
"The following errors occurred while trying to open this document: One or more colors could not be properly read, and may not display correctly on some systems."
This is obviously true, but no further advice is provided.
The website displays correctly as previously published on .Mac, and on a folder restored from the original HD.
Themes display correctly in the chooser, and new pages created from the same theme that does not display correctly in the existing site, display as they should.
I think the problem is with Domain.sites itself, therefore reinstalling iWeb will have no impact (except to replace Domain.sites with a "blank").
Is there a way to use the published sites to recreate a correct Domain.sites file?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    No.
What you can do however is open the original Domain site, highlight the contents of one page and copy it. Close that old Domain site, open the new Domain site - Paste the contents. Repeat until you've found the culprit file(s)

If the Excel spreadsheet is published as a File Item, grant Manage access on the item (requires Item Level Access to be enabled on the page) to the authorized user (or group) that makes the updates to the spreadsheet so that s/he can upload the updated spreadsheet whenever needed. Then just grant View access on that same file item to the group(s) or individual(s) that just need to view the spreadsheet. They'll still be able to save off the spreadsheet to their pc, so utilize the protection settings in Excel, if needed.
