Hi,
I believe your OCR is corrupted....so restore the OCR from most recent backup (before error ).
Using crs_* commands on resources with the prefix ora.* (resources provided by Oracle) remains unsupported.
After restore OCR... remove ASM with "srvctl" command:

Connection to the database failed. Please make sure that service "xxxxxx" is registered with the listener. Username Sys has SYSDBA privleges, password is correct and then try again."
The local_listener parameter is set to the listener name.
    Please provide suggestions...Its urgent.

    Hello,
I think you should refer to this Doc ID:  269320.1 : Removing a Node from a 10g RAC Cluster ; this might be helpful to you. You can also try srvctl command to remove instance from the RAC and follow the instructions.
Make sure you take backup of OCR before removing the node /instances.
Can you connect from node2 to node 2 using explicit connection string, how is your tnsnames.ora configured? If not able to connect correct that issue and try again
      sqlplus username/password@NODE3_INSTANCE;

  • Upgrade ASM instance database 10g to 11g

    Hi,
In my environment, I have ASM instance database 10.2.0.3 running on solaris 10 (64-bit), I need to upgrade to ASM instance 11.1.0.6 database. please guide me an overview of steps...
    thanks in advance

    Thanks for the response,
Sorry, In my environment I know database (10.2.0.3) is mounted in ASM diskgroups, now i have a concern
    1) If database is mounted in ASM diskgroups, could it be a database instance or it has to be only ASM instance connected to the database?
    2) As in my upgrade from ASM instance (10.2.0.3) to ASM instance (11.1.0.6), do we need to upgrade asm instance as well as database? i mean to invoke DBUA twice for upgrading ASM instance then for upgrading database as well?
Sorry for some silly questions...please make me clear...

  • Oracle 10g RAC - two nodes - change SAN storage - only one node up

    Hi all,
We're using Oracle 10g with Linux Red Hat.
We want to migrate to another SAN storage.
    The basic steps are:
    node 1:
    1. presents the volume disk and create partition
    2. asmlib create disk newvolume
    3. alter diskgroup oradata add disk newdisk
    4. alter diskgroup oradata drop disk OLDDISKOTHERSAN
    But THE NODE 2 DOWN.
we want start the NODE 2 only after ALL operations in node 1 finish.
    What's you opinion? Any impact?
Can I execute the oracleasm scandisks on node 2 after?
    thank you very much!!!!

    modify the commands just slightly...
    1. presents the volume disk node1 AND node2
    2. create partition node1 [if necessary?? ]
    3. asmlib create disk newvolume [node1] ## I am not a fan of and have never had to use ASMlib - however, apparently you do...
    4. asmlib scandisk... [node2]
    [on one of the nodes]
alter diskgroup oradata add disk1 newdisk rebalance power 0
alter diskgroup oradata add disk2 newdisk rebalance power 0
alter diskgroup oradata add disk3 newdisk rebalance power 0
alter diskgroup oradata add disk{n} newdisk rebalance power 0
alter diskgroup oradata drop disk1 OLDDISKOTHERSAN rebalance power 0
alter diskgroup oradata drop disk2 OLDDISKOTHERSAN rebalance power 0
alter diskgroup oradata drop disk3 OLDDISKOTHERSAN rebalance power 0
alter diskgroup oradata drop disk{n} OLDDISKOTHERSAN rebalance power 0
    alter diskgroup oradata rebalance power {n}
You can actually do this with BOTH nodes ONLINE. I was involved in moving 250TB from one storage vendor to another - all online - no downtime, no outage.
And before you actually do this and break something - TEST it first!!!

  • How to restore a single instance database to RAC (10g) using RMAN ?

    Hi all,
I have a single instance database configured using file system in a unique server, so now I need to restore this database using RMAN to a new RAC environment with two nodes and ASM also.
Does anyone can help with this documentation or a link about any information about this restore using rman ?
I tryied found on metalink but threres isn´t this specific case. Only how to convert single instance to 10g RAC, but without how to use with rman information.

In essense you are really doing nothing more than restoring a backup on a new host. If you want a blow by blow detail of how to accomplish it take at http://www.oracledistilled.com/oracle-database/restore-database-to-another-host-using-rman
In order to write the files to the ASM Disk groups you will use the SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE in your restore script. You will also need to create the ORACLE_BASE/admin/<DBSID> structure on all of node. Once you get the database completely restore you will need to edit the SPFILE to include the proper value for the CLUSTER* parameters and each the node specific parameters. Sorry that it is kind of higher level than what you are probably looking for but the link above and what I put here should get you were want to go.

  • Convert ASM single instance to RAC ASM instance...

    How I can convert it??

There is no backup/restore ASM Instance, also there is no Backup/Restore Data of ASM Diskgroup.
The ASM Diskgroup of versions 10.2 and earlier are simple and have fewer resources and parameters, then I see no reason to perform backup of diskgroup metadata.
If your ASM Diskgroup fail. Just Recreate Diskgroup and Perform Restore with RMAN. (i.e you don't need ASM metadata backup).

change IP Address Public + VIP + Interconnect

    change VIP name
    http://surachartopun.com/2009/01/change-vip-hostname-on-oracle-rac.html
If you'd like to change HOSTNAME... Metalink (NOTE:220970.1)
Can I change the public hostname in my Oracle Database 10g Cluster using Oracle Clusterware?
Hostname changes are not supported in Oracle Clusterware (CRS), unless you want to perform a deletenode followed by a new addnode operation.
The hostname is used to store among other things the flag files and Oracle Clusterware stack will not start if hostname is changed.
    Changing the Private Interconnect
o Change of the IP Address: change the IP address in the hosts file and/or DNS and make sure that ASM and the database also use the same interconnect
o Change of the private node name used by Oracle Clusterware: requires a reinstall of Oracle Clusterware
So, Public or Private hostnames can only be changed by removing/adding nodes, or reinstalling Oracle Clusterware. VIP Hostnames can be changed
But you can read this idea (reinstall CRS)

  • Seeking a solid reccomendation concerning 10g RAC implementation.

I need a solid recommendation regarding what hardware I should use for my planned Oracle 10g RAC environment.
Currently, I am looking for both node and SAN recommendations.
I also created a list of 11 questions that I need to have answered.
Here is how this will be configured:
    3 Node Oracle 10g RAC
    Each Node will consist of:
    32Gb of RAM (minimum)
Windows 2003 64-bit Enterprise (corporate standard, but I can go with Windows 2008 if I have a valid justification)
    74Gb RAID 1 (minimum)
    Dual 10Gb Ethernet NICs
    The SAN will consist of:
    750Gb-3Tb dedicated to Oracle
    10Gb Ethernet NICs
Here are some of my general questions:
1.) Are there any benchmarks or case studies that you are aware of that might help in the decision process regarding hardware?
2.) Where should my backups reside (SAN or elsewhere)?
3.) What margin should be added for SAN provisioning and waste (even if thin provisioning is implemented)?
4.) My CIO has decided to direct me to go with 10GbE copper instead of fiber channel, what unplanned hiccups can I expect?
5.) What are the caveats of running dual redundant SAN systems?
6.) We are currently using DELL hardware for all other systems, however I do have the freedom to change the vendor for this particular project if I can state a valid business justification. Any other vendors out there that make a better SAN or Node solution than Dell/EMC?
7.) How much local storage do I need on each node?
8.) Can I utilize 1 node to run ETL during production hours without drastically affecting database performance?
9.) Regarding the maintenance of this setup, are their any particular classes or training you would recommend? I am a seasoned Oracle DBA, but could use any specific training on the specifics of RAC and/or general performance.
10.) Are there specific advantages in Oracle 11g RAC vs. 10g that would be worth the cost of upgrading our 1000+ 10g user licenses?
11.) Are there any studies on the performance advantages/disadvantages of running Oracle 10g on Windows vs. Solaris (or any Unix)?
I will consider all input of high value, so please let me know what you would recommend.
    Thank you for your time.

please find answers that i know for some questions.
1.) Are there any benchmarks or case studies that you are aware of that might help in the decision process regarding hardware?
2.) Where should my backups reside (SAN or elsewhere)?
=> what is the backup method you will be using? certainly recommend RMAN (in addition to OS backups that you are planning to use) for block recovery, should there a block corruption.
i would keep some copies on the SAN local and mirror to DR site too.
3.) What margin should be added for SAN provisioning and waste (even if thin provisioning is implemented)?
=> do not suggest thin provisioning for production.
how big the volumes are going to be? reason for asking the Q is, if the volumes are going to be in TB, percentages can be lower. please plan for 2 years atleast.
=> have beetween 75GB to 100GB. hope you are going to have only ORACLE RDBMS and CRS software in here.
please make sure that you rotate your listener logs and alert logs and regular removal of old .trc files older than certain number of days old.
8.) Can I utilize 1 node to run ETL during production hours without drastically affecting database performance?
=> node usage will help from CPU standpoint only. what about the disk writes it is going to perform to the data files?
9.) Regarding the maintenance of this setup, are their any particular classes or training you would recommend? I am a seasoned Oracle DBA, but could use any specific training on the specifics of RAC and/or general performance.
=> attend a 5 day course from Oracle. install RAC on own and play with it.
10.) Are there specific advantages in Oracle 11g RAC vs. 10g that would be worth the cost of upgrading our 1000+ 10g user licenses?
=> did not compare, though installed 11g.
11.) Are there any studies on the performance advantages/disadvantages of running Oracle 10g on Windows vs. Solaris (or any Unix)?
=> running on windows? please do not. used on linux a lot. pretty stable and solid. recommend to go with 10.2.0.4 or higher.
    hope the above will help.

  • 10g RAC - updates immediately reflected (blocks cleared from buffer cache)?

We've recently upgraded to 10g RAC (4 nodes on linux using a netapp filer for storage) and we're seeing some issues with data in our database intermittently looking different than data in our application cache. we're trying to diagnose the issue (app vs. db) and i'm researching any issues with data blocks being cached on a specific node and not being immediately reflected on other nodes? has anyone seen an issue similar to this? i'm not convinced that the problem is in the database given that my research has come up dry but i'm wondering if anyone has seen this?
