Unable to refresh spreadsheet pasted into pages from numbers

Hi. I'm building a business plan using pages and as we paste the financials into the pages document, I am not able to refresh the spreadsheet in pages when it is changed and saved in numbers. In the help tab and on the forums a "refresh" button is referred to but I can't find it. Some other notes. I seem to have built the plan in "word processor" in pages instead of in "page layout." Can't tell the distinction between the two. Also, I'm taking a full budget in numbers and hiding most of the cells before pasting into pages. Having this capability work as "advertised" would be a huge time saver.

I'll tackle one part of your questions:
*Word Processing mode:* The document has a default area of text inside the set margins. Text fills this area and flows from page to page as needed. The pages form with the text, expanding and retreating with the tide of text within. This text can be indexed in the T.O.C. and may have footnotes. WP mode also has background and master objects which appear on each page and can be deleted from those pages at one stroke.
*Layout Mode:* The document consists of nothing but individual unconnected pages. Everything on those pages is a floating individual object, with the exception of headers and footers. Text can be linked between textboxes (WP can do this too) by manually linking them, even across pages. Layout mode is much more restricted than WP but simplifies designs by removing some of the clutter.
You can not simply turn one mode into the other. But you can copy/paste text and objects between them.

  • Pasting chart into pages from numbers

    How come I can't copy/paste charts into pages from numbers anymore?  I used to be able to on the last edition now with the new update when I go to paste the chart nothing happens.

    If you are using Pages v5 (any version), then you need to be using Numbers 3+ for copy/paste. If you are using Pages ’09 v4.3, you need to be using Numbers v2.3. Mixing versions breaks things.

    Updating a Chart Copied from a Numbers Document
    If you’ve created a chart in Numbers, you can copy it and paste it into your Keynote
    presentation. After it’s been pasted into Keynote, the chart remains linked to the data
    tables it references in Numbers.
    To change the chart data, open the original Numbers
    document and edit the data there, save the Numbers document, and then refresh the
    chart data in Keynote.
    To update a chart after you’ve updated its data in its linked Numbers table:
    mm Select the chart on the slide canvas and click the Refresh button that appears.
    Note: You must save the Numbers document before copying and pasting your chart
    into your Keynote presentation and after editing the Numbers data tables that the
    chart references.

    I have read the directions in the manual, but when I go to the document where I want to put the page the paste function is greyed out.  I assume this has something to do with styles, but can't find what to do.

    Paste is greyed when we try to paste a page from a WP document into the thumbnails area of a Layout one.
    It's active if we try to paste in the pages area.
    In the document's tool bar, there is an icon with a + symbol at top left.
    In WP documents it's named Sections, In Layout ones its named Pages.

  • How do I paste a table from Numbers or Excel into Ibook Author exactly as the original?

    I am new to iMac and Ibook Author.
    I am writing a statistical paper in Ibooks Author.
    I have Chapter heading, now section heading and body.  I want to paste a table from numbers or excel into my iBook as this has the results of my analysis.
    As part of my analysis, I want to copy a 5 column table with 633 rows, which is essentially my table of data.  I have the table in numbers and excel.
    When I copy the table in numbers or excel, followed by pasting (CmD V) into iBooks, I get the first 20 rows in a table format and the remainder of the table is missing.  The table appears to end at the end of the page.
    I can not figure out how to paste the entire data as my table.
    Its holding me back...
    Any ideas?

    I am not fully sure if I understand but I gather since there are so many rows only a certain amount fits on a single page.
    How many rows does actually fit on a page in iBooks Author?
    There is a method that would look pretty cool that is used to create a double page spread that would look great but instead of having a double page you could maybe have three or four pages.
    Here is a quick idea that I stuck together, additionally when you are copying and pasting form Numbers to iBooks Author just select the cells that you want.
    Copy and paste within iBooks Author and then go back and get the next row of the table that you want.
    I hope I am clear in what I am describing.

  • Unable to copy and paste a phote from my photo library to another photo album

    iphoto 6.0.6 unable to copy and paste a photo from my main library album to another photo album.  why does the copy and paste function not work for these albums.  I have tried to drag it and drop it into the album, but nothing works.  it this a bug?  When I created the album several years ago, I was able to copy and paste photos into it, but now when I try to copy and paste nothing happens.  Again I ask, is this a bug?

    Do you have Word & Excel installed, if yes, navigate in the finder to an example of each, right click and select 'Get Info' scroll down to 'Open With' and select the appropriate program, check the box that says 'Change All'

  • How do you retain text formatting when pasting into Pages?

    Hi
    I often copy and paste text into and out of emails. But whenever I paste into Pages it removes all the emboldening or italicisation. Once pasted, the text is all in one style (the one selected when I hit paste).
    Generally there is too much text for me to comb through and find each instance. Is there a setting in Pages that I can change to prevent this happening?
    I'm using Pages version 5.2.2 on iOS 10.9.4.

    On Mavericks 10.9.5, I created some Rich Text in the email compose window. I copied this text to the clipboard. Pressing command+V in TextEdit or Pages v5.2.2 deposits the original Rich Text in the respective application document. No monochrome for me.
    From Mail 7.3
    To TextEdit 1.9
    To Pages v5.2.2

    - open in photo roll and crop a section out of it

    You can do that with PhotoPad. You take a screen shot, crop it in PhotoPad and it is saved to Saved Phototos. Then you just go the Media section and import the croped photo.

  • Is it possible to edit vector art pasted into Pages 4.1?

    Is it possible to edit a vector shape created in Illustrator and pasted into Pages 4.1? I can adjust the transparency, scale it, even put a drop shadow on it, but I can't change the color which is all I want to do.

    It has a drawing tool at the end of the Shapes menu but it is oddball and a little clumsy compared with what Illustrator offers and it only edits Pages' native objects.

    To get around this issue, I paste the calculated values into TextWrangler, then copy from there and paste into Pages.  Is there a way to go directly from Numbers to Pages with calculated values?

    I you are pasting into a table in Pages, follow Jeffs instructions.
    I you are not pasting into a table, this works. Copy the cells in Numbers. Go to your Pages document and under the Edit Menu > Paste and Match Style. It works like Paste Values.

    Probably because it is a smart object connected back to the Numbers document.
    If you want it purely as a graphic, try copying the chart in Numbers switching to Preview.app and going command n which will make it a pdf file, then copy that and paste that into Pages. But it will no longer be a live chart.

    I created a table in Numbers that have arrows inserted from the "Shapes" menu.
    When I copy and past that table into Pages, the arrows dont paste. I've tried doing normal pasting, and pasting with matched style, but the arrows dont get pasted into my Pages document.
    Anyone able to help?

  • Unable to print to PDF Oversize pages from FrameMaker 9.0 and 7.2

    Hi All,
    I am trying to print to PDF a publication that is full of oversize wiring diagrams. The pages are all images ranging in size from standard A3 and A4 siz sheets through to a foldout being 1470 mm W X 297 mm H. We have no problem printing A3, A4 and 630 mm W X 297 H. These are all Portrait images. When we set up our custom print size to accomodate the 1470 mm W X 297 mm H we get the pages without the content, and even some of the oversize pages are not the correct size on print.
    The page sizes we are using are:
    A4
    A3
    630 x 297 mm
    840 x 297 mm
    1050 x 297 mm
    1260 x 297 mm
    1470 x 297 mm
    The procedures we are using to set up the printing are:
    1.      Print to PDF (Do not Save to PDF, you do not have control over paper sizes)
    Under Print Setup make sure you select PDF Driver and select the Paper size as largest that is in your book.  Example: If A4 and A3 pages, print to A3
    2.      Select Generate Acrobat Data and select
    Note: Back in FM Print dialogue; make sure Print to File is turned OFF, before you click Print
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    I tried to duplicate the scenario and ran into issues when using very wide custom pages. For whatever reason, FM tries to output the 1497x297 as 297x1497, no matter what the controls for Portrait or Landscape are set. Also changing the dimensions in the printer instance Custom Page Size didn't seem to have the desired effect.
    I checked the .ps files being produced, and in all cases the page and file Bounding Boxes get defined as:

    Whereas, in the same file the custom page size is defined as:

    Note: that the H W components are transposed.
    Something is definitely screwy here. The content appears to be created off the page in many scenarios.
    I tried all permutations of H W, Portrait/Landscape and Paper Feed directions, but could not get output created that had the long dimension horizontal (i.e. landscape orientation). Even with pre-defined page sizes, I wasn't completely able to control the output orientation.
    I then changed the defined page size within FM from a portrait aspect ratio, i.e. H > W to a landscape, W > H. I was then able to get the content appearing correctly in the 1497x297 layout. It looks like FM is trying to be "smart" and thinks it knows better as to what you want on output.
    First, check that your FM page size has W > H. If printing from a Book, where you have mixed page sizes and orientations, I believe that the first file sets the orientation for the whole lot. So if the first one is a standard portrait page and you have large landscape inserts, and are trying to print to oversize pages in the landscape mode with Generate Acrobat Data on to ensure page sizes are cropped - you're going to have orientation issues with the larger pages.
    Try printing these large page sizes separately and use Acrobat to replace the pages from the book output.

    When I copy from Google Translate, paste into InDesign, and convert to Geeza Pro (an Arabic font in InDesign), the characters come in reverse order. Example in English: Google Translate = WEATHER (correct). After it's pasted into Indesign and converted to an Arabic font: REHTAEW (not correct). I know this has to do with the right to left reading. Is there a way to fix this since I have an entire business system I need to design and I can't spend the time to alter each word in InDesign after it's translated.

    I'm running CS5.5. Yes ... I know I should upgrade, eat more whole foods, and less alcohol.
    I do 100% of my Arabic work in CS4, with ye olde version of World Tools. There's nothing for you in upgrading to CS6; CS5.5 has every scrap of functionality you need. The javascripts you found on that old Thomas Phinney blog-posting will do 85% of the things that the World Tools plugin will do, and I think you probably don't need the other 15% if I understand your project correctly. If you need to make booklets with the spine on the right, you'd need InDesign ME or World Tools. Otherwise I think you will be just fine using those scripts.
    (If you are a menu-driven type who can't stand a lack of visual feedback, then World Tools is worth every penny. One of the drawbacks of the scripting solution is that there's no obvious check-mark next to "Direction: Right To Left" if you're just using the scripts.)
