Unable to register file server in OVM 3.0.1

I'm stuck on attempting to register a fileserver in VM Manager 3.0.1; When I go to register a new file server, the "Storage Plug-in" drop-down is blank. What can I do to dig into this? Nothing about this is covered in the documentation...

First must Discover VM Server!

  • Can't register file server

    Hi
I have just managed to install OVM 3.0.2, I have only one server and one manager, my server have some free space I want to use to stora images, templates, etc. How do I add that as a file server?
When trying from Storage-Register File Server it fails. I'm probably doing something really stupid but I'm note sure where to look so if anyone could point me in the right direction I would be very happy.

I do have unmanaged space left on the OVS, it was installed using default values, however I can't see that space when I configure the server pool. You can't use the unused space on an already partitioned disk, i.e. if there is a single disk in your server, the entire disk is consumed by the Oracle VM operating system.
When selecting the magnifying glass next to "Location" in the wizard I have three options in the dropdown list: Unmanaged iSCSI, Unmanaged FibreChannel and Generic Local Storage Array @Diesel
No matter which one I choose there isn't anything in the big list, what am I doing wrong?Only completely unused, unpartitioned disks are presented as local storage. These will show up under the "Local Storage Array" when available.

  • Unable to add File Server Resource Manager Tools on Windows Server 2012 - Errors on restart and roll back install

Unable to install Windows Server 2012 Feature -  [Tools] File Server Resource Manager Tools.
Installs, however when I restart the server error messages appears saying feature unable to install, windows reverting changes.
In the Setup event logs have the following information message "Update FSRM-Infrastructure of package FSRM-All failed to be turned on. Status: 0x800f0922"
Does anyone have any idea's on why this Feature can not be installed ??

    Hi Shaun
Tried both of your suggestions, however neither strategy worked.
    Strategy 1
Tried installing via powershell - "install-windowsfeature -name fs-resource-manager -includemanagementtools"
Feature un-installed itself during the restart.
Attempted to use the command "DISM /online /remove-feature /featurename:FSRM-Infrastructure-Services".  However
this did work because one the Service was'nt installed or two because there was no command option for "/remove-feature"

As specified by SAP, "File System Mount Service" gets started automatically.

I've assigned the letter to the drive to which DPM was backing up, found the last file (the size was 0) and copied this file from the source without any problem.
This problem occurred several times with different storages for replica. Unfortunately previous logs went away so I cannot say that it stopped on the same file, but the error "Data corruption near MTF DBLK" was the same.
When the file server was on Windows 2008 R2 and DPM was 2012 SP1 there were no problems with backup.

    Hi,

  • Unable to register Essbase Server in Shared Service

    Hi,
I am installing 11.1.1.3 version with the following setup
We installed and configure the Planning server with following components - Weblogic 9.2, Shared Services, Workspace, EAS and Planning on (32 bit EPM 11.1.1.3 version) and all the components are working properly.
then, We install and configure Essbase with the following components - Essbase Server (64 Bit EPM 11.1.1.3 version). Essbase without registering with Shared Service is working fine with the EAS component, but when we try to register it with Shared Services it fails.
Need your inputs to resolve the above issue. Also send the configuration steps to validate the same with our configuration.
    Regards
    Atul

    hi john,
Everything is been done as part of installation and configuration. but while configuring ESSBASE SERVER, it fails to "register" with sharedservices.
The interesting point here is that Essbase server in one machine is of 64-bit and sharedservices in another machine is of 32-bit.
kindly let me know the possibilities that we can integrate an installation with a part of 64bit files in one machine and 32 bit files in another machine .

  • Can't see any NFS server in OVM 3.0.3

    Hi all,
I installed OVM on a physical host with 2 internal RAID arrays. One for the base OS (68G) and planed to use the second one (300G) as a "data" storage.
I made a ext4 FS on it, mount it and shared it with NFS like (firewall and seLinux are disabled for this test) :
    cat /etc/exports
    /data *(rw)
I can see on the two VM servers that the share is OK and I can also mount it :
    [root@qxpovs01 ~]# showmount -e 10.100.208.104
    Export list for 10.100.208.104:
    /data *
Then in the Manager web interface I try to add a NFS from Hardware-> Storage -> File Server -> Register file server.
    name : nfsdata
    access host : 10.100.208.104
and add my two servers as admin server.
Doing all this shows me no NFS storage...
What is wrong with my setup ?
Do I need to put special things on the NFS storage (as it was before with OVM 2.x using the utils/repos.py script) ?
    Many thanks.

  • Prob. re-registering satellite server

Hi all: having a bit of an issue with a satellite server. I decided to completely remove all roles from one of our sat servers, un-register it, remove the agent, and reinstall. This all proceeded fine but I am not able to register the server into the zone. The command zac reg -k key https://serverort returns an error:

All fixed. For some reason, after about 2 hours I was able to register them.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS: RDS Users are unable to delete files from their desktop

    Hello,
We are working with Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS. We also implemented User Profile Disks. This is all working fine without problems. The only issue I have is that normal users are unable to delete files from their desktop. They are getting a message:
you'll need administrator permission to delete this file, with the prompt for administrator access.
They can edit, copy, rename, cut and paste files. But they cannot delete a file from their desktop.
I checked the security permissions of the files on the desktop (for example a normal self-created PDF file) and the users are owner and have "Full Control" over the files.
I checked the file permissions and took a look under "Advanced", selecting the specific domain user and checked the "Advanced Permissions" and the user has the "Delete" option checked. So he should be able to delete the
    file.
I am guessing this is UPD related issue, or something in GPO. But I already unlinked the GPO objects, that I felt could be the source of this problem, but without results.
Could someone give me a hint on where to look? It's kinda annoying to users, that they can't delete their own files.

    Hello Bria,
What you should check first, is the NTFS permissions on the User Profile Disk to begin with. See if the user has full control over the items that are in the UPD.
Also check the GPO's that are enabled for the user and computer account. You can check that by running: gpresult /h <path>\gpresult.html
There are two GPO settings that could prevent the user from deleting his/her own items:
    User
    Configuration\\Policies\\Administrative Templates\\Windows Components\\Windows Explorer\
Hide these specified drives in My Computer
Prevent access to specified drives in My
    Computer
There might be other GPO settings, that block deleting items on the UPD, but can't think of any out of my head.
I can only think NTFS and GPO settings that might prevent the user from deleting items. In my case it was a GPO setting, that I didn't suspect.

  • Unable to access UNC path on 2012 R2 file server with ABE enabled

    Brief Description:
We have granted access to people via a domain local group on a folder on a file server that is three levels deep from the share, i.e. \\servercluster\share\folder1\folder2\folder3, where folder3 is where the group is granted Read & Execute
access.  The share has Access-Based Enumeration (ABE) enabled and the Everyone group has Full Control share permissions.  We also use DFS, so the path for that is \\domain\dfsrootname\folderfororganization\share\folder1\folder2\folder3.  People
in the aforementioned group only have access to folder3, its subfolders, and files.  They do not have any access to folder2 or any of the other folders higher in the tree at all.  Also, consider that folder3 contains a subfolder folder4, which is
    simply inheriting permissions.
What we have found is that clients running Windows 7 SP1 have strange access issues when attempting to access the folder via either the DFS or cluster name UNC paths.
Detailed Testing Results Accessing Folder3 Directly:
NOTE:  "UNC path" in the following test results means either the DFS or the cluster name share path.  The results are the same regardless which path is used.
1 - Enter UNC path without trailing backslash in Windows Explorer's address bar:
Windows Explorer seems to do nothing for about 30 seconds and then displays the following error:
    "Windows cannot access <UNC path>
Check the spelling of the name.  Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network.  To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose."
2 - Enter UNC path with trailing backslash in Windows Explorer's address bar:
The same error encountered in #1 is displayed immediately.
3 - Enter UNC path with or without trailing backslash but contained in double quotes in Windows Explorer's address bar:
Internet Explorer opens and displays the error:
"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
4 - Enter UNC path without trailing backslash in Run dialog box:
    An error message immediately appears:
    "<UNC path>
The specified path does not exist.
Check the path and then try again."
5 - Enter UNC path with trailing backslash in Run dialog box:
    Same as #4.
6 - Enter UNC path without trailing backslash but contained in double quotes in Run dialog box:
    Same as #4.
7 - Enter UNC path with trailing backslash and contained in double quotes in Run dialog box:
Windows Explorer opens the correct UNC path location and displays the folder contents.  This is the expected behavior for all of these attempts.
8 - Create Shortcut to UNC path by performing #7 and then dragging the folder icon in Windows Explorer's address bar to either to the desktop or the Favorites section, and then attempt to access the folder via
    the shortcut.
    Same as #7.
9 - Attempt to create a shortcut to the UNC path using the New Shortcut wizard:
Unable to successfully create the shortcut, regardless if you add a backslash at the end or enclose the path in double qutoes.  When you press Next after entering the UNC path, you receive the following error:
"The file <UNC path> cannot be found."
10 - Disable ABE on the share and repeat all tests:
All tests with ABE disabled on the share have the same result as #7.  There is no issue whatsoever accessing the desired folder when ABE is disabled.
    Other Notable Behaviors:
If the aforementioned folder (folder3) contains one or more subfolders (e.g. folder4), you are able to access those subfolders via UNC path directly and then go up one level to folder3 without issue, even when ABE is enabled.  You just cannot access
folder3 directly via UNC path unless you attempt to access it via the method used in #7 above or a successfully created shortcut.
Adding a user account directly to the folder3 ACL rather than using group membership makes no difference.
If access is granted to folder4 instead of folder3 (the fourth folder deep rather than the third), accessing folder4 directly via UNC path is not an issue regardless of ABE status or attempted access method.
Windows 8 and 8.1 clients have no trouble directly accessing the folder's UNC path via any method.  The unusual, undesirable behavior seen in Windows 7 is non-existent on Windows 8.x clients.
    Systems Involved:
    Client:  Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x86
Server:  Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard in cluster
    Other Details About the Systems:
Both the client and the file server cluster are in the domain AD DS domain.
The client and the file server cluster are in different subnets.
There is no firewall or other packet inspection or compression service/device in between the client and server (not even Windows Firewall).
    Question:
Is there a way to fix this behavior with Windows 7 clients and ABE enabled on the share so that it works correctly without forcing the clients or server to use SMBv1 or disabling ABE on the shares?

    7-Zip 9.20
    Adobe Flash Player 13 ActiveX
    Cisco WebEx Meetings
    Java 7 Update 51
It should be noted that I can't repeat the behavior on my test machine again today after some changes were made in our environment.
Today, I found that someone had modified permissions on the folder to give the group my test account was a member of rights to traverse the folder hierarchy from the root of the share.  Additionally, in testing something with FIPS mode, I ended up reverting
my virtual machine to an older snapshot.
After removing the extra permissions that weren't present when I was doing my testing and reverting to the older snapshot, I  am not having issues accessing the real equivalent of folder3 directly in Windows Explorer via DFS UNC path or creating a shortcut
    with the New Shortcut wizard.
Things have been fundamentally changed and I cannot repeat the behavior on this particular folder.  I will see if I can recreate the same situation on another folder.

  • CIFS on OES2SP3 not registering as server on WINS server - Unable to obtain server list from CIFS server.

Running OES2P3 cifs on SLES10SP4. This server is on it's own subnet
connected via a router to the other subnets, with the rest of the
servers. Name resolution and CIFS file access does work, but browsing
does not work. I found that the server registers the workstation
service with the WINS server, but not the server service. Adding a a
static WINS entry enables netbios name resolution. But due to the
unability to obtain a server list from the CIFS server (a packet trace
shows, that the request for the server list from the OES CIFS server is
answered by the server with an unspecified server error) browsing does

Is browsing supported by OES2 CIFS like it is in SAMBA or does it need
another server as browser to allow browsing to work?

  • POST fails on T5140 server.   POST shows errors about "Unable to create files".  Server won't boot

    All,
Need any help that someone can provide.  Currently I have a T5140 server.   Yesterday it crashed unexpectedly. We were able to reboot the system and it come back up with the service light on.  Service light was indicating a memory DIMM problem.   We powered down the server to replace the memory modules that had service led showing for them.   After powering the system on, it never gets past POST now.  We attached a serial console to the ILOM and watch the post.   POST starts normally. Then we start to see messages about "unable to create files.  Finally POST gets to a point where it looks like it is finishing but hangs.   It hangs at the point where it say that it is initiating run level 3.  But it just sits there and never boots the system.  Any ideas?   Is this a motherboard issue that really cemented itself when the power was removed to the system?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  We are stuck.
    Thanks.

I have had this same issue, unfortunately you will need to place a service call for a field tech to come on-site and replace the failty DIMM. The T5140 WILL NOT BOOT if any one or more DIMMs fail to POST.
The only partial solution is to disable the CPU that is connected to the bad DIMM so the system will successfully boot up in degraded mode. But I would not run the box like that for long.
You need to call service a.s.a.p.

  • ODBC error generating temp file: "Unable to create file buffer" Server 2008

    Guys:
I have a 32 bit application that has been running for years with no problems under XP and MS Server 2003.
To access the oracle DB we use MFC drivers and ODBC system datasources for Oracle 10g and 11g.
We recently moved from MS Server 2003 to Server 2008 Standard Edition (32 bit).
We also upgraded our DB from 10g to 11g R2.
Now the application gets intermittent errors when accessing the database like the one below:
    "Unable to create file buffer"
I looked this up on other forums and it seems to be a problem with the ODBC driver creating uniquely names temp files
in the system temp folder. This was a documented problem some years ago and was fixed but now seems to have
reared its ugly head for Server 2008.
I'm not sure who the culprit is: 2008 32-bit or the 11g drivers.
I just know that some of our transactions fail because ODBC has problems and this is killing us.
As you see we are still running on a 32 bit OS and have created the ODBC DSNs using odbcad32.exe.
The application connects to the DB and works MOST OF THE TIME but random transactions now fail because of this error.
If I try to kill all of the *.tmp files from the windows temp directory it seems to solve the problem for a while but then the problem comes back rather quickly.
Any help here would be apprciated.

This may solve the issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/130719
Don't just delete the offending file...it will be recreated eventually. Post a dummy file to prevent the error from reoccurring.
My only question is why you put more info on database and ODBC versions here and not in your SR? I'll note this in your SR for ya ;)
