Unable to retrieve a session attribute

My program gets a set of input from the users via a jsp page and moves on to another jsp(intermediate) wherein i get these input values through request.getParameter and set it as session values to be sent to a servlet. When I try to retrieve these values in the servlet it shows null value. I find that the sessionId of the jsp and that of the servlet seems to differ. Why is that so? while the reverse works well (i.e) creating session parameters in servlet and accessing this session in jsp. The program works only if I put the values in application scope which I feel is not necessary.

Under normal operating circumstances, you will not get this behavior. a cookie will be set with the jSessionID and you will have the same session no matter if you invoke a JSP or servlet (a JSP is also a servlet, so there is absolutely no difference).
So you do not have normal operating circumstances. It might be a server setting, it might be a browser setting, but god knows which one. It might be something else in the environment; for example, do you have a regular Apache HTTP server hooked up before your Java web server?
Another thing to check; when you are in your JSP, is a jSessionID appended to the url in the browser?

  • Error adding RDSH to existing collections: Unable to retrieve the session collection properties

    I've randomly experienced a problem on our production server. I can no longer add RDSH servers to existing collections but I can create a new collection.  The error message from add-rdsessionhost:
    Unable to retrieve the session collection properties.

    I can amend the rds.RoleRdsh table to add the server to the collection but more gtables need to be edited manually to get it working. There appears to be some kind of permissions issue editing exisitng collections but not new ones? I'm not aware of anything
    that has changed since I last amended a collection, the day before.
    Any help would be appreciated. I can provide more information if necessary.

    Hi,
    Based on my research, there was a similar case where an empty collection existed in Connection Broker SQL database, deleting the empty collection resolved the issue.
    Please run PowerShell cmdlet Get-RDSessionCollection
    to list all collections in the RDS deployment.

  • ISE is unable to retrieve groups and attributes

    Hello guys,
    I have Cisco ISE installed on EXSi in a lab. I was able to join the ISE server to my test Active Directory server, and under the OU=Computers, I can see my ISE hostname.
    However, when I go to Administrator > External Identity Sources > Active Directory > Groups > Add > Select Group from Directory:
    I have my domain entered in Domain box and an * for filter. When I clicked the "Retrieve Groups" button, I always received "Number of Groups Retrieved: 0 (Limit is 100)"
    It seem like ISE is unable to retrieve the groups that I have on my AD. I checked the status of my ISE server and it says that it is still connected to the domain. When I search for attributes, it keep saying that the user is not found.
    I disabled my AD's firewall and still getting the same results. I ran the detailed test connection, and it was a success and the port connections are all good. At this point, I am pretty much stuck.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    I am sorry Jatin. I have another question.  I am working on Motorola RFS7000 WLC and Cisco ISE v1.1.1.
    I am not sure if I should create a new thread about the new issue I am having now.  I have successfully added my RFS controller and one AP7131 to ISE Network Devices. And I am able to login to these devices using my AD account. However, it is not allowing me to manage these devices.  I believe I am at exec mode. I SSH to my RFS and I can't even get to enable mode.

    You can simplify your logic and test your code in a simple class.
    import java.util.ArrayList;
    public class TestArrayList {
    public static void main(String args[]) {
         ArrayList ar1 = new ArrayList();
         ar1.add("1");

         ar2.add("12");
         ArrayList myWholeList = new ArrayList();
         saveToList(ar1,myWholeList);
         saveToList(ar2,myWholeList);
         showItemInArrayList(myWholeList);

  • Error in retrieving session attribute for ejb remote in clustered env

              We store EJB remote object in session and differnt clients retrieve it from sessionbefore
              making a business method call. This seems to work in most cases but sometimes
              it gives the exception attached. This happens only in a clustered environment.What
              has been observed is that if we put the remote object inside a hashtablewhich
              in-turn is stored in session retrieval from hashtable does not give thisproblem.
              Any suggestion / solution would be greatly appreciated.

              The EJB is stateful session EJB. Have seen some posts pointing to problems
              with
              stateful session EJB and cluster and the suggested solution was SP4 (we are
              on 6.1 SP3).
              Hope this gets more clarity (and some solutions!!!).

  • Unable set session attribute with certain types.

    Hello I was surprise that when I execute HttpSession.setAttribute("somekey", new HashMap()), "somekey" will not be stored in the Session. I can replace HashMap with HashSet and it's okay.
              Out of curiosity, I create a Java class like below :
              public class abc implements Serializable {
              public String def = "def";
              And I have the same issue with HashMap and it will not get stored in the Session attribute. Does anyone know what kind of valid object and what makes the object storable into the Session's attribute? Any inputs are appreciated. Thanks.

    Actually never mind. It have something to do with BEA's Portal Ad services. I will post this into the appropriate forum.

  • How to set session attributes in a bean?

    How do I set a session attribute in a server-side bean?
    I'm not sure if I asked the question the right way. What I meant is, while it's easy to set session attributes in a JSP page (session.setAttribute("sessionname", "sessionvalue")), I'd want to set such an attribute within a server-side bean defined in this web application. But what is the syntax for doing it?

    Here a simple bean that stores something in the session and retrieves something from it.
    import javax.servlet.http.HttpSession;
    public class TestBean {
      private String value;
      public void doSomething(HttpSession session, int a, int b) {
        if (a+b > 0) {
          session.setAttribute("ab",Boolean.TRUE);
        } else {
          session.setAttribute("ab",Boolean.FALSE);
      public void init(HttpSession session) {
        if (session != null) {
          Boolean b = (Boolean)session.getAttribute("ab");
          if (b == Boolean.TRUE) {
            value = "a + b is greater than zero";
          } else {
            value = "a + b is not greater than zero";
        } else {
          value = "no session";
      public String getValue() {
        return value;
    }In your JSP, use something along the lines of :
    <%
      TestBean bean = new TestBean();
      bean.init(session);
      bean.doSomething(session,1,2);
    %>If your bean only lives during one request, you can pass the session to the constructor, which stores it in a private variable. This saves passing the session each time.
    Hope this helps,

    The other thing I notice is that when trying to connect to the VMM. It's trying to use domain\username, yet when I try logging in with domain\username via the SCVMM Console. I get the  You cannot access VMM management server (Error ID: 1604).
     I'm not sure if this is why I can not add the VMM to WAP.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks
    Nick

    Hello,
    I am not sure about the answer but I guess these steps will solve your problem:
    1) Log in to the SPF server by using an account that is a member of the SPF_Admin local group.
    2) Open an elevated Windows PowerShell window.
    3) Type the following commands, and press Enter after you type each command:
    Import-module spfadmin
    New-SCSPFTenant -Name Administrator -SubscriptionId 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
    4) Close the WAP Server Management Portal, and then reconnect to it to update all items.

  • Session attributes

    I have a JSP page that calls itself multiple times and passes information back to itself using a vector passed as a session attribute. I am attempting to clear the attribute by using the removeAttribute() method and also calling the setAttribute() method and assigning an empty vector when the page is first called.
    If after populating the session attribute I move to another page ("page X") and then come back, the page appears to have cleared the attribute/vector, but when I submit the page unto itself again the attribute/vector appears with the new information that I just passed to it ALONG WITH the old information assigned from my initial call before going to "page X". I would like to clear the information if the page is called from a page other than itelf, but somehow the old information is still being saved in the session.
    Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks for your time.
    Matt

    Thanks for the help. I have pieced out the part of the page where I attempt to reset the vector. Hopefully it is not too out of context to make any sense.
    Assumptions:
    - daySelected is a form object in this page (used to determine if page is called by itself
    - workWeek is a vector of "workday" objects populated by this page
    Code below:
    if(request.getParameter("daySelected") != null){//page called by itself
    //retrieve the workweek object from the previous version of this page
    workWeek = (Vector) session.getAttribute("passedWorkWeek");
    //dayIndex = 0-6 (Sat-Fri)
    dayIndex = Integer.parseInt(request.getParameter("daySelected"));
    if(request.getParameter("hourType").equals("In")){  //Time In
    input = request.getParameter("hourin").trim() +":"+
    request.getParameter("minuteIn").trim()+
    request.getParameter("AMPMin").trim();
    ((WorkDay) workWeek.elementAt(dayIndex)).setTimeInEntries
    (input);
    }else{//hourType="Out" = Time Away
    input = request.getParameter("outHours")+"."+
         request.getParameter("outFracHours") + " "+
         request.getParameter("outType").trim();
    ((WorkDay) workWeek.elementAt(dayIndex)).setTimeAwayEntries (input);
    session.setAttribute("passedWorkWeek",workWeek);
    }else{//if page not called by itself or Clear Hours selected
    //clear any existing vector and session attribute
    workWeek.clear();
    session.removeAttribute("passedWorkWeek");
    //the above lines seem redundant as I am setting the attribute again, but nothing seems to work consistently
    //Create empty vector for workWeek
    for(int i=0; i<7; i++){
    workWeek.addElement(new WorkDay(weeksDates,"", "", ""));
    session.setAttribute("passedWorkWeek",workWeek);

  • Session attributes persists forever!

    When I validate form input in my servlet, I create a HashMap of error
    messages and store that Hash in the session
    (session.setAttribute("myErrors", hash))
    Then, I response.sendRedirect() the user back to the page and print
    the error messages with (session.getAttribute("myErrors")). After
    this, I try to clear the session attribute with:
    session.removeAttribute("myErrors"), but it still remains in the
    session!
    I even try to add a "new HashMap()" to the "myErrors" attribute after
    I remove it, but that doesn't work.
    Any ideas on why I'm unable to clear the attribute from my session?

    I found out that the session has changed. I am using Tomcat. This probably explain why the attribute is not there.
    When I use the back button, I get back to the earler session with all the attribute intact. Why does this happen???.
    JSP code below
    <BR>Session ID: <%= session %></BR>
    <%
         Enumeration ee;
         ee = session.getAttributeNames();
         System.out.println("[START LIST]SESSION ATTRIBUTES........");
         while (ee.hasMoreElements()) {
              String s = (String)ee.nextElement();
    %>
    <BR><%=s %></BR>
    <%
         System.out.println("[END LIST] SESSION ATTRIBUTES........");
    %>

    Hi Kyle,
    Could you try:
      Choose Edit > Preferences (Win) or Adobe Reader > Preferences (Mac)
      Click 'Online Services' on the left-hand side
      Sign out of our Adobe ID and sign back in.
      Try to convert your document again.

  • ASA 8.4(6) "Unable to retrieve or verify CRL"

    Hi,
    I configured our ASA to fetch a CRL provided via  our Linux CA. The crl is exported via Tinyca as a crl file and served by Apache.
    The file is reachable by the ASA and up to date, I see an http 200 (OK). Despite that I get a "Unable to retrieve or verify CRL".
    The ASA is configured as following:
    crypto ca trustpoint LINUX-CA-TP
    revocation-check crl none
    enrollment terminal
    crl configure
      policy static
      url 1 http://<ca-url>/issuingca.crl
      no protocol ldap
      no protocol scep
    Enabling debug and trying a "crypto ca crl request LINUX-CA-TP":
    ASA (config)# crypto ca crl request LINUX-CA-TP
    CRYPTO_PKI: CRL is being polled from CDP http://<ca-url>/issuingca.crl.
    Unable to retrieve or verify CRL

    I'm a bit puzzled. The error is not really saying where the ASA is exactly failing!
    Thanks

    Hi, I'm pasting the debug of the entire "ca" section with level 255.
    I have the complete trustchain, yes, and the linuxca is an intermediate certificate. As a note: I added each cert of the trustchain as a separate TRUSTPOINT in the ASA. I'm suspecting it should be better to concatenate them and include them in a single trustpoint, or?
    Openssl can validate the entire chain, yes.
    I'm not sure what you mean by CA/RA, sorry...
    Here's the debug!

    I am not sure if this solved the problem.
    But now, I am using Sun One Web Server 6.1 sp1.
    You can download it from
    http://wwws.sun.com/software/download/products/4000635d.html
    Try using this and see if the problem gets resolved.

  • Getting a session-attribute

    Hi
    I have managed to store a session-attribute containing user-info:
         HttpSession session = request.getSession();
         session.setAttribute(Constants.USER_KEY, user);
    when the current user gets to the mainmenu I want to show different content depending the users authority, problem :
    How do I in my menubean (extending org.apache.struts.action.ActionForm)
    retrieve this users sessionvalues ?
    I can get the servlet but I can't figure out how to get hold of the session
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Set you session variable like this and put it in a session for you to read it at a later stage:
    HttpSession session = request.getSession();
    session.setAttribute("USER_KEY", user);
    Read it from you jsp/servlet/bean like:
    HttpSession session = request.getSession();
    String usr_key = (String)session.getAttribute("USER_KEY");

  • Getting http session attributes

    Hello,
    Perhaps the question here may sound stupid, but I have real problem with that:
    Is it possible to obtain http session attributes from the client side
    (and even worse) in other languages like VB or VC++? What i mean is that after creating Http session by servlet, and setting some attributes, is it possible to get them by VC or VB app? Thanks in advance :)

    What i mean is that after creating Http session by servlet, and >setting some attributes, is it possible to get them by VC or VB app? >Thanks in advance :) What do you mean by "VC or VB app" ?
    A desktop app written in VC or VB ? a web app in VBscript/ASP ? (but as far as I know there is no web language based on VC, unless you're talking about executable CGIs that can be written in any language).
    Assuming that you talk about VB-ASP, I don't think it possible "out of the box" to retrieve session variables created by a servlet in an ASP page.
    That would be possible if HTTP supported sessions.
    Sessions are implemented at the application level on top of HTTP; they reside in the application that handles requests. Outside it, they don't exist.
    It doesn't mean that you can't do that, but that you have to do that using HTTP constructs like URL rewriting or form submission.
    For example you could set session variables in a JSP page, and then forward the request to an ASP page through a GET request with all session variables written in the URL.
