Unable to Save new documents in InDesign CS5

I just upgraded from CS3 toCS5. I'm able to open old InDesign files and save but am not able to save a new document in CS5. I'm also not able to Undo. Any suggestions? Hoping this is an easy fix.

Hi,
Try re-creating the preferences.
For windows Xp:
Drag the "Version 6.0" folder from C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\ to the desktop.
Drag  the "Caches" folder from C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Local  Settings\Application Data\Adobe\InDesign\Version 6.0 to the desktop.
For Windows Vista:
Drag the "Version 6.0" folder from C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\ to the desktop.
Drag the "Version 6.0" folder from C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\.
For MAC:
Drag the "Version 6.0" folder from Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/ to the desktop.
Drag the "Version 6.0" folder from Users/[user name]/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/ to the desktop.
If this dosen't work tried creating new user account with Admin rights.

  • Issue in setting bleed to a document as InDesign CS5 Server plugin

    Hello all,
    I am creating a new document in InDesign CS5 Server through C++ Plugin and trying to set bleed to the document. I have used the command to set bleed. But it doesn't seem to apply properly. I check in the debug version also. It show success to the command but when I open the document there is no bleed applied. I am using following command.
    InterfacePtr<ICommand> pageSetupPrefsCmd(CmdUtils::CreateCommand(kSetPageSetupPrefsCmdBoss));
    if(pageSetupPrefsCmd == nil)
    CAlert::ErrorAlert("Error in SetDocumentBleed function, pageSetupPrefsCmd is nil.");
    break;
    InterfacePtr<IDocSetupCmdData> docSetupData(pageSetupPrefsCmd, IID_IDOCSETUPCMDDATA);
    if(docSetupData == nil)
    CAlert::ErrorAlert("Error in SetDocumentBleed function, docSetupData is nil.");
    break;
    pageSetupPrefsCmd->SetItemList(UIDList(m_pDocument));
    docSetupData->SetDocument(::GetUIDRef(m_pDocument));
    docSetupData->SetNPagesPerSpread(1);
    docSetupData->SetPageSize(pagesRectangle);
    docSetupData->SetPageOrientationIsWide(bWide);
    docSetupData->SetUseUniformBleed(kFalse);
    docSetupData->SetBleedBox(bleedRect);
    ErrorCode error = CmdUtils::ProcessCommand(pageSetupPrefsCmd);
    if (error == kFailure)
    CAlert::WarningAlert("Command failed");
    Can some one please help me in letting me know what wrong I am doing in this command? This has become quiet critical for me.
    Thanks all in advance.

    Farzana.

    Hello All,
    I was able to resolve this by using IPageSetupPrefs instead of IDocSetupCmdData interface.

  • How do I open a PageMaker document in InDesign CS5?

    When I try to open a PageMaker document with InDesign CS5 (Mac OSX 10.7.5) I get an error message that it "Cannot Open file.... Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format might be missing, or the file may be open in another application."  It's certainly not open in another application anywhere, It is, indeed, a PageMaker document which is supposed to be supported.  Before updating to current Mac OS, I used to be able to easily open this file with an old copy of PageMaker, but that no longer works on this OS!
    Thank you!

    Hi, Mike,
         I found another copy of this file on my laptop and I think it might not be broken.  When I try to open it in text edit or Mellel, I get a much larger document with much of the material I know is supposed to be there.  Would you be open to giving it one last shot?  The new dropbox link is https://www.dropbox.com/s/12eqa6hh6tlse89/New%20Kabbalat%20Shabbat%20CBH (which, I know, looks like the old one, but I deleted that file and just uploaded this one).
         If you can open and save it (possible saving it in PM 6.5 or some other form I can than open with InDesign, or just sending me a pdf, I'd be very grateful.
         You can reach me at hlzeitlin AT aya DOT yale DOT edu.  As thanks, enjoy the music on this link, https://www.dropbox.com/s/h1zix2ukzyt8ags/STE-90610-047.wav.

  • Adobe flash error: unable to save the document please try to save it to a different file name

    Hi,
    I am editing few fla files with my Adobe Flash Professional. Suddenly it stopped saving them and is giving me an error; unable to save the document as... please try to save it to a different file name or to a different location.
    i changed the location to save the files, but I still receive the same error.
    Is there any one who knows how to deal with this error?
    Thanks,

    close flash.  right click its icon or start program and click "run as administrator".  save your fla.
    if that fails: restart your computer, create a new directory on your desktop and save a test fla (eg, named test) to that new directory.  any problem?

  • I can't save *new* documents back to SharePoint

    I can’t save *new* documents back to SharePoint. We have a SharePoint 2013 development environment, running on Windows Server 2012 and a Windows 7 Client Computer with Office 2010.
    Every time I click „new document“, SharePoint opens the corresponding template file in the client application (Word, Excel,…) So far, so good. When i select „Save“, the client application brings up a local save path on the client computer, not the SharePoint
    document library.
    I did some research and tried many approaches, but none of them worked.
    I installed the Desktop Experience Feature on the Windows Server 2012, added the server address to trusted sites, gave the user farm-administrator rights (to make sure it is no security problem) and switched the authentication mode for the web application.
    Does anyone know this problem and found a solution?

    Hi,
    For troubleshooting your issue, you can try to add a registry value to your local registry (on a machine with Office Applications installed through which you are accessing SharePoint sites):
    Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
    Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters
    On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Multi-String Value.
    Type AuthForwardServerList, and then press ENTER.
    On the Edit menu, click Modify.
    In the Value data box, type the URL of the server that hosts the Web share, and then click OK.
    Note You can also type a list of URLs in the Value data box. For more information, see the "Sample URL list" section in this article.
    Exit Registry Editor.

  • How do I by default save new documents in a particular folder?

    In OS10.3.9, how do I by default save new documents in a particular folder? I have created a new folder called new docs which I have put in the dock, and would like to save all new documents in that folder...
    Thanks,
    Michael

    ibisbill:
    I think you need to navigate to the Folder when you want to save. If you are saving documents created in Word, after a while Word may learn the location and go there.
    Incidentally, the folder in the Dock was created and resides elsewhere. That is where you will need to navigate to when you save.
    Good luck.

  • Cannot save as or save new documents in Office:mac

    Cannot save as or save new documents in Office:mac.

    Your profile says 10.7.3 which is Lion. 10.6 is Snow Leopard.
    If that's the case and you did a security update via software update last week that also caused problems for many. Apple have issued an update to that as well, version 1.1:
    Security Update 2012-001 (Snow Leopard)

  • TS2647 My keynote files keeps saving my document as a package even though "Save new documents as packages" is not selected. I also do not have Stuffit Expander on my system. Any ideas why this is happening?

    My Keynote file is NOT creating a single file but creating a folder with all the decks files.
    1. I have "Save new documents as packages" deselected in Keynote preferences. And…
    2. I do not have StuffIt Expander on my system.
    Any suggestions.

    OK, restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one or more is corrupt. To restart in Safe Mode when you hear the start up tone hold down the Shift Key until you see a progress bar. Let it fully boot then restart normally and test.
    Also I am assuming you have checked Finder - Preferences  - General and see what boxes are checked in "Show these items on desktop." You can also mount an item in Disk Utility, simply highlight it and then look in the File menu for Mount.....

  • How do I downsave InDesign CS6 documents to InDesign CS5?

    Is there a way to downsave my InDesign CS6 documents to be opened up by someone who is on InDesign CS5?

    So is the best option to save it to pdf??
    That depends on what you want.
    Want to send it to a print shop? Want to send it to someone who is going to provide editorial commentary? Want to send it to someone who is going to actually edit text? The best option is not obvious to a forum full of random strangers if we don't know your selection criteria. If, from your original post, you need your document
    to be opened up by someone who is on InDesign CS5?
    then PDF by itself may the worst option. I'd suggest that you File -> Package your CS6 file, make sure all linked files are included, and give them an IDML file. And, because the IDML file won't match your CS6 INDD perfectly if you've used any tools new in CS6, give 'em a PDF too. So maybe the best option is "all of the above."

  • Unable to save a document after signing it in Adobe Acrobat Standard XI.

    I have a user who is unable to save .PDF files that he is opening in Outlook via an embedded link in the email.
    When he clicks on the link, Acrobat opens the document without issue. However, when he applies his signature and goes to save it over the existing document on our internal network file server, he gets the following message: "The document could be saved. The disk you were saving to or the disk used for temporary files is full. Free some space on this disk and try again, or save to a different disk."
    The network drive has a significant amount of space available, at least 500 gigs.
    This was not an issue up until Friday of last week. Prior to Friday, he had no issue signing documents emailed to him that contained a embedded link pointing back to the file on our internal network file server.  If I have him browse directly to the file in Windows Explorer however, he can open sign the document and overwrite the existing copy.  While that works, I would like him to regain the ability to save his file after opening it from his email; as unless I show him how to get to the file directly via Explorer, he is unable to do so. (And he has to sign many documents a day as well)
    Other users on my network are not encountering this issue, however some are running a different mix of Office and Acrobat. (Such as Office 2010  and Acrobat X, etc)
    I've researched this issue for prior versions of Acrobat and tried to applied the same resolutions for this issue without a positive result. So far I have been unable to find any solutions for this issue dealing with XI.
    Has anyone else run ino this issue with Acrobat Standard XI? If so what did you do to resolve the issue? Thank you for any help that you can give me.
    Here is the basic setup that his computer is running:
    Windows 7 Profesional 64 bit
    Microsoft Office 2013 Professional
    Adobe Acrobat Standard XI
    Internet Explorer 9
    Also my user is has full Admin rights to his workstation and has the appropriate security rights to the folders he is trying to save the signed document to.

    I would like to confirm the exact same message is happening with us.
    Several users have been receiving the error message shown below when trying to save PDF’s to their desktop or other server.
    We are experiencing the issue with earlier versions of Acrobat (8 & 9) as well.
    This is only started happening this week?

  • Unable to save Word documents when accessing them directly from the site because the document never converts from a read-only even though the User chooses to enable editing

    Issue has only popped up recently and cannot reproduce in a Test environment.  Unaware of any SharePoint changes, so hoping someone can point me in the correct direction.
    Previously Word document did not have to be physically checked out, but rather the editing of the doc also checked out the doc in a document library. This is the way we want it to remain –
    no manual check-out process. Now if a doc is edited without being checked-out, there is an issue with the process as the application thinks the doc is read-only (message received when trying to save the doc) even if enable editing is selected. The
    following message appears when you try to save the document:
      This message can appear if you have been editing a file that was opened as read-only. A file opened as read-only will have (Read-Only) appended to the file name as it appears in the title bar of Word. You can still save the document, but you must
    save it by using a different file name. If you use Windows Explorer to change the read-only properties of the file, while the file is open in Word, it will not enable Word to save the file. Word must open a non-read-only version of the file in order to save
    it by using its original file name. If you have not made any changes to the file, you can close it, and then use the following steps to make the file writeable. 1. Click the File tab, and then click Open. 2. Browse to the file and right-click it. 3. Click
    Properties, and then clear the Read-Only check box. 4. Reopen the file. If you have made changes to a read-only file, you can save it, and then use the following steps to give the modified file the original file name. 1. Click the File tab, and then click
    Save As. 2. Enter a different file name, and then click Save. 3. NOTE: Adding "Rev1", or "Mod1" to the original file name may help you to remember it later. 4. Click the File tab, and then click Close. 5. Open Windows Explorer. 6. Browse
    to the original read-only file. 7. Rename the read-only file. 8. Browse to the new file. 9. Rename the new file to the name of the original file. Do not delete the read-only file until after you have determined you no longer need it.
    Previously, when check-out was optional, a file was checked out automatically when someone opened it for editing, unless it was already checked out. The editing commands notified the User that the file is being/was checked out.  The real issue is the
    word doc can no longer be saved as the application still believes the doc is read-only.

    Hi,
    According to your description, you give the domain admin full control over files on the old file server, but you cannot move the files to the new file server. After pull the files from the old to the new file server, the domain admin can only read the files
    on the new file server.
    How did you move the files from the old file server to the new file server? Did you setup replication between the two file server or use robocopy?
    Please check the files permissions on the new file server to see if the permissions are changed, then share the folder on the new file server to everyone to see the result.

  • Unable to save a document to another user group

    This may be a basic configuration issue, but I have recently taken over the administration role for our BO 6.5 system, and have been unable to find a solution.
    A user in a Prod Pwr group is trying to save a document to another Prod user group, where he is not a member. The only group that he can choose from is his own.  Can this be done, or is this normal, even for Prod Pwr users?  I appreciate any insights.

    This is the correct behaviour...a user can "publish to" only to the group to which s/he belongs.
    A user on the other hand can use the "send to user"  fuctionality and send his document to a user in any other group as far as s/he knows the users login id.
    Hope this helps !

  • Unable to save a document to any device

    I hate to cross post but not sure this fit peripherals.
    My 12" Powerbook G4, OS 10.4, Microsoft Word, just announced that I have no memory remaining on my hard drive to save a document (54gb free, actually) and that I need to delete some files. Tried a floppy in an external drive, same problem; tried my iDisk account, same problem. No storage device could be saved to.
    I emailed the documents to a friend from within Word to preserve them and restarted the machine. Problem disappeared. Documents emailed back to me, I'm fine BUT:
    Why did this happen? Is the operating system corrupt? I couldn't find any other episode in the forum that was similar.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Memory doesn't always mean gigs. If your computer was on for a lenght of time and you were doing a lot of other things during that time, your computer's working memory can get filled up and is most likely what happened. I doubt anything is corrupt. Computers get silly sometimes.
