Unable to scan windows 8.1 client

On a hunch, I tried a less complicated password and even renaming the local account name.  The fix for me was the account name change.  Turns out that I had used all caps for the local admin account (ex. JOHN) and in the Spiceworks console I had .\john so even though this is windows, not *nix, it is case sensitive.  I changed the local account from "JOHN" to "temp" then "john" and it works now.  Windows will not let you do a direct change from "JOHN" to "john", thus the extra step.  I hope this helps someone else.

Server - Spiceworks 7.4.00070 running on a Windows 2008 R2 Server (hardline to switch)Client - Win 8.1 standard & current on all OS patches (wireless connection to switch)Workgroup config (not a win domain)I have tried running the fix utility and after following the three steps including registry entry and firewall disabled, everything is green. When I try to scan device, the console returns one of two errors, either "Unable to connect for one of three reasons", or "host unreachable or firewalled".I can ping the client from the server and vice versa by name and ip without issues. I can RDP from the win 8.1 client to the server no problem. I have created a local admin account, for this discussion, let's say it is "John" with a password of "Password". I am using .\John for the username and Password for password. Is there a syntax issue...

  • Unable to scan and install windows updates on Win 2008 R2 server

I've encountered some of my win 2008 servers are unable to scan and receive windows updates from SCCM 2012. Browse through the logs and found some error code related to
0x80244023. Excerpt from the WindowsUpdate and WUAHandler is as below. Searched the net and found some workaround which is to rename the registry key
WinHTTPSettings to WinHTTPSettingsx (by adding x at the end of the string)
    under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Internet Settings -> Connections.
I've did just that on the effected servers and after running again the Software Update Scan Cycle action, it is now able to scan and install the updates. My questions is, based on you guys experience, is there any repercussion (apart from enable to install
software updates) that I could encounter in changing the registry key value WinHTTPSettings?

    Hi
If SCCM is setup correctly and your boundaries are correct then once you deploy updates the agents will pick them up.
Also make sure you SUP role has the FQDN set. Lastly if you are using port 8530 make sure it is open.
Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

  • Unable to scan and communicate with scan function C6180 Vista Home Premium 64 bit Printing works

I have an all in one C6180 Photosmart connected by wireless network (infrastructure). Network consists of 2-laptops, 1-Desktop and the printer.  Everything works from HP solution Center on the Compaq laptop and the Dell desktop both running Windows XP. My newest laptop is a Dell studio XPS core2   2.4ghz running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I am unable to scan from the Dell Laptop using HP Solution Center nor can I scan from the printer buttons to the laptop. Solution Center opens I select "scan document" and immediately get an error message "unable to communicate with scanning device. Likewise with the copy function.  The laptop does recognize the printer though and I am able to print wirelessly.  All functions work when connected via USB so I believe the printer is fine.  I have been working with this problem since I bought the printer in 2007. I spent many hours reading hundreds of internet posts, talking by phone with HP and via e-mail support from HP.  I became frustrated and gave up for awhile but now I want to see if there are any new solutions that I don't know about. I downloaded full feature software and drivers for the 6180 from HP and performed various levels of uninstall (L1, L2, L3, L4). I also cleaned the registry with ccleaner, windows disk cleanup and manual registry deletions when allowed per HP. I have checked port settings, tried stopping HP functions is Services.Msc. The Digital monitor is currently running, however no scanner communication-computer to 6180 and no scanner communication 6180 to computer. I can print and fax from computer wirelessly. I have ran the HP diagnostic utility separately and it appears everything is fine, connection IPaddress etc. During install when prompted to run test it says the printer is connected to the network. I have tried to add a device to the network after install and get the message no wireless devices found. The scanner does not appear under Cameras and Scanners in control panel. Nor will it find the scanner when I try to add device. Firewalls and antivirus have been turned off. Still can't make it work. Suggestions please.

Sorry about your pain.  L3 uninstall is what I recommend.  Re-install from hp.com and this time, with the printer properly attached it should flow OK.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Can't open secured documents on windows 7 domain client with mandatory profiles.

While opening certain PDF files we have the problem that the user is presented with a message that he does not have the rights permissions. This happens twice, after that the users gets an empty page with the message the Adobe version might not be up to date. We use Acrobat Pro 10, but this also happens while using Reader 11.0.8. On our windows 2008 terminal services machine this could be fixed by giving the user rights on c:\ to create and remove a file. :O. On windows 7 this doesn't work probably because of UAC. But we've tried every solution to that available on the internet, disabling uac, changing uac options, changing rights on userprofile folders, changing rights on c:\ but to no avail. When using process explorer we can see it wants to create a temp file p328hkl.tmp or something like that on C but it can't and immediattely after is shows the error on screen.
Anyone who also has this problem or solved it? There are no problems with simple self made pdf files/scans but only with certain types of pdf files for which it tries to create a tmp file.
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Hi Brogers,
Thanks for your reaction. We do have AppData redirection in place. We redirect AppData to a share on our data server which works perfectly fine for all other applications. The weird thing is that Reader/Acrobat try to write to C:\ which to my knowledge should not happen, is this maybe a fallback because it can’t write to a different location? Users have full control on their own roaming AppData but not on their local AppData that is made by windows itself while copying the mandatory default profile to C:\.
I might use the wrong term while saying secured documents. I’m talking about a document created by Raet/Youforce a web application for personal administration. The documents can be opened by other viewers than Acrobat/Reader but then only contain the background and not the text. In Acrobat/Reader they do open normally when Acrobat/Reader can create the .tmp file. Otherwise it will not display the file at all. I would attach such a document to see but since it contains certain info I am not allowed to do so.
I hope we can work out a solution for this.

  • Windows 8.1 client cannot delete shared server files.

We have one office that has a Windows 8.1 client on the network that cannot delete files in a shared folder on their server.
The folder is a catch all folder for the copier to scan to and contains all the PDF files it creates.  When the one user tries to delete any of the PDF files they get an error saying the file is in use.  We have tested by deleting files from
the server and also from other workstations.
We have rebooted the computer and also tried to resolve it by specifically giving the user full rights to the folder, but the problem remains persistent.

    Hi,
There are several possible reasons for your situation, you might don’t have a permission of this folder, the folder is in use, a corrupted file is in current folder.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-hk/windows/cant-delete-file-folder#1TC=windows-7  (Also applies for Windows 8.1)
First, I suggest to log on the computer with an administrator account to delete the folder and disconnect the network connection if possible, second, Run your computer in safe mode to delete the folder or files, to run computer in safe mode:
Restart your computer, meanwhile press F8 until you see the safe mode screen.
Hit enter at safe mode, log on the system as an administrator.
Find the folder or file you want delete.

  • 5180c unable to scan and send to computer

I have HP Photosmart Printer and am unable to scan and send to my computer. I used to, but am unable to. How can I fix it?

    Hello @Foxglove77,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the issue that you're experiencing when attempting to scan documents to your Windows 7 computer from your HP Photosmart C5180 All-in-One Printer.
To start troubleshooting I am going to have you download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool. This Tool will run on your computer and 'fix scanning' issues for you. Should any driver, software, or connection conflicts be found than the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool will attempt to resolve those conflicts for you. Please click here to download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool.
Once the Tool completes, please test scanning again. Should the issue persist, please take note of any error messages.
If you do happen to see the message 'No Scan Options' when you attempt to scan from the front panel, please click here. Once the support document opens select the dropdown for 'How to scan with HP Software'. Next, click on 'Set up scan settings'. Lastly, select 'Control panel button settings' . Please use these instructions to reconfigure your front panel scan options. Once your scan settings have been reconfigured, please test scanning from the front panel again.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Good luck!

  • The wizard was unable to scan documents...

    Hi
I'm running FM 7 and WWPSE 7 under Windows 2000. Hardware is an IBM Thinkpad with 1 GB of RAM. Have just installed Quadralay's WebWorks Publisher 7. Whenever I try to convert an FM file I am confronted with the message "The Wizard was unable to scan documents in [project]".
A google search unearthed a document with ID 328048 in the TechNote database which pertains to this problem. Solution 2 suggested there refers to a KB document "How to establish Communication between WebWorks Publisher and FrameMaker 7" which is thought to be in the Knowledge Base of the Quadralay web site (www.webworks.com/support/).
However, I was unable to find such a document - neither in Quadralay's nor in Adobe's KBs.
Being totally stuck I wonder if someone out there can help me out.
    Thanx in advance
    Rolf Laeuffer, Switzerland

    Rolf:
Where did you get the WebWorks (as distinguished from the newer ePublisher Pro) installation program?
As a former and generally less than impressed customer of Quadralay, I recall that the installation program shipped on the CD-ROM for one of the last releases of the older WebWorks Pro was defective the day it was delivered.
The solution was to go to the Quadralay Web site, complete a cumbersome registration process so as to acquire access to the support portion of the site, and download an updated installation program.
At this point, however, I don't believe that Quadralay will today retroactively support any versions of WebWorks Pro. That in turn may mean that you might not be able to acquire the updated installation program.
As Art suggested, I would recommend contacting Quadralay. Good luck -- they're not as far as I know anyone's favorite vendor...
    Cheers & hope this helps,
    Riley

  • Restore BOOTCAMP from .dmg image - Unable to scan (invalid argument)

I'm having trouble getting my maching back in order after a crash.  I'm running a MacBook Pro 13" mid-2009 with a Bootcamp partition.  Last week my harddrive crashed or something and I wasn't able to boot into either drive.  Using the Snow Leopard install DVD and Disk Utility I made .dmgs of the entire HD and each of the partitions (Mac HD and Bootcamp - maybe overkill but..).  I have since been able to restore my Mac side from the image, even without installing OSX - I just restored from the image using Disk Util again and everything seems to work fine.  But, now I've been trying to do the same thing with my Bootcamp side - I have a separate .dmg for that.  Everything seems to go fine except that when I try to restore it tells me the image needs to be scanned and when I scan I get the error message: "Unable to scan BOOTCAMP.dmg (invalid argument)".  I've tried using different schemes of compression/ no compression on the image, tried to convert to a .cdr then rename to .iso and restore using Windows' native Recovery option. I even tried Terminal - sudo asr restore -noverify -source _________ -target __________ , but it wouldn't let me drag and drop in the Bootcamp drive icon...
Now I don't know what to do but ask.
    Has anyone solved this problem????

Hi, and thanks for your reply.
Is there anyway I can convert my .dmg or .cdr/.iso to something that winclone can use?
ps I did finally get Disk Utility to scan the image.  I had to convert it to a compressed .dmg from the uncompressed one and it finished it fine but still in Restore in Disk Util. I can't set the destination as my bootcamp partition.
Looks like I'll have to reinstall everything then eh? Well thanks for your help.

  • "Unable to capture window image"

if I select a window to be screenshot, I get this error:
Your screen shot can’t be saved.
    Unable to capture window image.
    (shortcut: cmd-shift-4 and then space)
It seems to be new in Lion. Never had that problem before. And regular screenshots seem to work fine (cmd-shift-3).
Thanks for any help! ~ Kai

    Thanks Davide ...
I created com.apple.screencapture.plist with Terminal and restarted the Mac.
The first couple of window screenshots worked on a Chrome browser window (command-shift-4, then space bar). But it did not work on other app's windows (Finder, Carousel).
Then I switched back to Chrome and I didn't work there too anymore. Crazy thing is that now it works on Finder windows. Very very strange.
All this is only true for capturing a whole window content (command-shift-4, then space bar)

  • I am unable to scan from my HP all in one printer/scanner

Since installing Mavericks I am unable to scan using my HP printer/scanner.  I have uninstalled the software and tried to just use Apple method - but really cannot find out how to scan and save.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Be sure to use the steps in these articles to set up and scan with your scanner:

If the steps above do not work, these printer troubleshooting tips may also help with scanner troubleshooting:
Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.
Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
