Unable to Update to 1.1.1 on an ipod classic 80GB

I have tried to update my ipod to the latest 1.1.1 it seems to go to the right process, until it reboots and connects, but when i look at my software version it still says 1.1 and it tells me " A newer version of the ipod software is available (version 1.1.1) To update your ipod to the latest software, click Update." I have repeated this update several times. Any ideas? Anyone has this problem??
thank you

best way to resolve this problem is to restore your ipod

Unable to update iOS 4.3.3 to latter version on my iPad which I purchased summer 2011

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • Updated now itunes will not recognize my ipod classic

I just updated to the most recent version of itunes and now itunes does not realize that my ipod classic is plugged in so I cannot sync nor can I even format if that was required. My PC sees I'm plugged in and I have even reinstalled itunes. Any ideas?

Well I solved my problem just in case anyone needs to do it in the future.
Opened windows explorer and located the device. Right click then selected format. I left everything as it was and then told it to format. Once the ipod was formatted I put it into disc mode and connected to the computer. Itunes recognized the ipod then made me restore it. once it restarted it recognized the device and synced right up.

  • I downloaded the latest itunes update and now it freezes and my ipod classic does not work

How do I get my ipod classic to work with the new I tune update it wiped out all my sons and now my ipod is blank/

    Hey palmtree2001,
Lets see if we can get your iPod touch recognized and charged. Take a look at the first article to go over making sure the drivers are working properly to any third party conflicts. If you are still having issues with charging, take a look at the second article for some suggestions to get it working.

  • Ipod classic 80gb will not connect after update to itunes 7.5

I just updated to itunes 7.5 and i cannot get the device to sych anymore. it connects and then automatically ejects after I plug it in. I still have another computer with itunes 7.4 and i will use that until i get it fixed. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes to no avail. I did get it to connect for a while last night, but today it just keeps ejecting. I had charged it fully last night before getting it to connect to the one w/ 7.5. Maybe it is going into this thing someone had where it is drawing too much power. Good God, this is my first apple, and for the life of me I will never buy another. What a bunch of crap. I never had any problems like this with my Creative Labs. Too bad I broke it.

I had the following situation: I`m running Vista on a Sony Laptop with iTunes 7.3 and a 60GB Ipod connected. Everthing works fine!
Than I bought a 80GB Ipod, updated to Itunes 7.5 - and nothing works! I have 42Gb music in my library.
I tried everything, spend some nights to get this thing running - nothing.
I´m "glad" to hear that I´m not the only one having problems.
But my question is: What is Apple doing? No comments in this forum, nothing on the website. What am I supposed to do now? Spending €250 and waiting for the day it will work? Doesn´t Apple now that there are not alone any more? That there are competitors? I´m really angry!

  • After updating iTunes to the latest version my iPod Classic won't let me delete any thing .

After updating to the latest version of iTunes, I can not delete anything that is on my iPod.

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

  • Updated to 7.6.2 w/new ipod classic and now mpeg 2 will not play

HI, I just purchased a new ipd classic and was forced to update itunes and quicktime. I have quicktime pro 7 and use Mpeg streamclip daily for various purposes.
After the updates I tried to open an mpeg2 file in streamclip like I always do to encode and I keep getting the error-2048 mpeg2 component needs to be updated.
So I went to apple.com/store/account/downloadable software purchases and my previous purchases of Pro and mpeg 2 were there and I re-downloaded the mpeg 2 and then ran it and restarted.
And I get the same error message. WHen I go on quicktime and click check for update software it tells me quicktime is up to date!
I am pulling my hair out here and need to encode stuff with streamclip, so Any and all help is really appreciated!
    Todd

Why not report this as a bug to the Norton folks?
Why is Norton still silently blocking iTunes without telling the user, during an iTunes upgrade?
Norton's been doing this for years....the way it should work, is if Norton sees a new program getting installed, it should ask the PC user whether the new program is trusted/safe & should be allowed.

  • Update 1.02- Now continuous restart loop- New Classic 80Gb

Went to synch 2-week old 80Gb classic. Prompted for update, waited until after synch. Then clicked update. Came back later and iPod stuck in a continuous restart loop. Reset/Restart does not work, computer doesn't see it untils it boots...hosed.
    Any ideas...?

This was finally resolved, so I thought best to post the results.
    *Call #1 to Apple:*
Poor English speaking tech, very hard to even get the address right, and very little product knowledge resulted in returning it to Apple. Within 2 days prepaid box arrived and I shipped back. Within a week, the reply that nothing wrong, or may have been corrected via diagnostic testing- software update, etc.. Worth noting no charge.
Received it back, turned on and woohoo...the menu. Plugged into and opened iTunes. First thing I noticed..FORMATTED WINDOWS (FAT32), even though it left me, and I told Apple I was a Mac user. OK- who cares, as long as it works. Did a full synch, the iPod restarted and right back into the loop of restarts again.
    Call #2 to Apple:
This time an English speaking, knowledgeable tech who, for the first time, had me put the iPod into disk mode (center/menu until logo, then center/play until disk mode) and for the first time the iPod was seen by iTunes.
He walked me through the restore, menu came up and began synching. All looked good so I let him go at 40Gb of stuff takes some time. BUT as synch completed, iPod restarted and was stuck in the loop again.
    Call #3 to Apple:
This call started bad, tech not really understanding history of things so far, new case ID, and had me doing things already done. However, eventually a product specialist and the tech support call we all dream of. Methodical and full knowledge of the iPod. First thing, clear out old iPod software update files to force new download. Then log in to another user (we all have one right?), and going through the restore in the fresh iTunes. Brought some tunes in from CD, synched and finally a working iPod. OK, now back to the other user.
    1. Trashed iTunes library file in my user, and moved the iTune Music Library.xml to the desktop.
    2. iPod to disk mode, opened iTunes, cancelled erase and synch, did restore, and manually put some tunes on it. All good.
    3. Went through adding tunes and checking, all good.
    4. Final was Import the previous iTunes Music Library on the desktop, and synch only a few items. All good.
    5. Synch some more, couple hundred, and all good.
    6. Final synch all music and let it go. All good.
    7. And finally, add photos, TV shows, movies, contacts, calendars, etc. and all flawless.....
So...appears the end result was either a corrupt iTunes Library file or iTunes Music Library.xml file. Note that other iPods (2 shuffles, and a 3G 20Gb) continued to synch without issues, only the new classic suffered from the corrupt files..
As a note: As far as Apple Support was concerned I didn't like the fact that each time new Case ID's assigned, or that I had to constantly explain the "sequence of events" leading up to the current call. In addition, the first call was worthless and had I talked to tech from call number three, it would have been fixed then without even sending in.
Anyway, hope this all helps someone...problem solved.

  • Why won't my ipod classic 80gb no longer synch after latest itune version updates

Why will my ipod classic 80 g ipod no longer synch after upgrading my itunes? I went from the very user freinly itunes from a few years back to the latest versions and have been having these problems.
    Doesn't synch at all.
    Synchs only partial playlists selected.
If it synchs it leaves out multiple tracks.
I mainly use my ipod for listening to Audio books that I have ripped unto mp3's myself. It also won't do my music or podcasts.

I have the same problem with windows 7 and msy ipod classic will not sync...have no access to  thousands of songs and playlists..Help!!

  • I updated iTunes and now my 160 GB iPod Classic makes iTunes freeze.

I have done everything from resetting the iPod to uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.  I have formatted and reformatted the iPod.  The iPod actually works, I can go through and fix the settings to my liking.  But when I go to sync with my iTunes, iTunes freezes and I have to reboot the entire computer to be able to use iTunes again.  I just can't plug in the iPod.
I have also tried a different computer, with the new iTunes and different cords as well.  This makes me afraid to even try to sync my iPhone.
    Help!  What do I do?!

If you get a message that says Ipod_control is corrupt you should put you Ipod into Disk mode by 1st holding pressing the MENU AND SELECT buttons at the same time util the apple logo appears. Then press the SELECT button and PLAY/Pause buttons at the same time until it goes into disk mode. Once that happens connect it to your computer and you will see your Ipod as an external drive. Right click on the IPOD drive Icon and select properties, then slect tools, then select error checking, then select fix file system errors, then slect OK. Once the system files are fixed, this will take a while, your Ipod will be recognized by Itunes like it use too. I know this is a pain, but its the only thing I could figure out and it worked. Good luck!

  • Unable to update to 1.1.1 do I need to? Unknown error (1417)

iPod Classic 80GB. My software version is 1.0.2. Every time I plug my iPod in I am informaed that a newer version of the software (1.1.1) is available, but every time I try to update I am told that the message "could not be completed. An unknown error has occurred (1417). However, I want to know if updating really makes any difference to the way the iPod runs?
I don't want to have to restore unless absolutely neccessary as it takes about a day and a half to resync all my music, which means leaving my computer (which is in my bedroom) on overnight.

You should refer to the link first, since it directly deals with your problem (error 1417). You should try each procedure. You never know what might fix it.
(ex. even though you think your USB drivers are up-to-date, you should double check and update them).
If the procedure outlined in the link doesn't work, you could try my procedure.
    As for your question:
If you have the "Manually Manage Music" ticked in itunes, those are your ipod's settings no matter where you plug your ipod in. If you wish to update using another computer, you could install itunes in another computer, since your ipod is set on Manually Manage Music, it won't sync the new library. A window will likely open asking that your ipod is synced to another library, would you like to sync to this library? Click CANCEL. Then update your ipod.
Good Luck! And let us know how it went.

  • Updating software on iPod Classic... Is it worth it?

I have read through countless posts where people have complained about several significant problems with/during/after updating the software on their iPod Classics. To be fair, I will also say that there are those who claim to have had no problems at all with the updates...
...and there's obviously no way to tell which side of the coin you'll be on until you actually try the update.
I purchased my first ever iPod (Classic 160 v1.0.3) in January 2008 and have never had a problem with it. However, because I've never owned an iPod of any kind before, I have no frame of reference in comparing volume limits, menu speed, or trackwheel sensitivity.
So my question is this: For all who are in the same shoes as I, is it really worth taking a chance updating the software on the iPod, when the results could be bad and the odds of it happening are 50/50 - while also taking into consideration that Apple tends to drag their feet in resolving known issues?

I was in a similar situation where I had 1.0.3 on my iPod classic 160, was very happy with it, but wanted to update to 1.1.1 so that my TV shows would be ordered properly. I also read that there were improvements to the menu speed and coverflow. I waited a few weeks before I decided to take the plunge, since no one really was complaining that there were any obvious screw-ups this time around.
I now have 1.1.1 and don't regret the update. It really is good an stable. I haven't updated to 1.1.2 yet, although there is another thread for that explaining what others have experienced with that update.
Anyway, 1.1.1 is much better than 1.0.3 and I don't regret the update.
