Unable to use jstl in jsp

Already I read out the discussion about this topic. But still I face the same problem. I have already put the jstl and standard jar files in the WEB-INF\lib directory and modified the web.xml file adding the following lines.
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jstl/fmt</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/lib/fmt.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jstl/fmt-rt</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/lib/fmt-rt.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jstl/core</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/lib/c.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jstl/core-rt</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/lib/c-rt.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jstl/sql</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/lib/sql.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jstl/sql-rt</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/lib/sql-rt.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jstl/x</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/lib/x.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jstl/x-rt</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/lib/x-rt.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
In jsp page I have written the following lines.
<%@taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jstl/core-rt"%>
<%@taglib prefix="fmt" uri="http://java.sun.com/jstl/fmt_rt"%>
I have got the following error :
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: File "/WEB-INF/lib/c-rt.tld" not found
please help

Just in case someone is still having problems, the better solution is not to have these entries in web.xml at all.
To run JSTL, all you need are the two jar files (standard.jar, jstl.jar) in the WEB-INF/lib directory,
- NO entries in web.xml
- NO tld files
- no problems!!!
You then use the "standard" uri to import the taglibraries into your jsp pages.
JSTL1.0 - <%@ taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jstl/core"%>
JSTL1.1 - <%@ taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core"%>
Use JSTL1.0 in Servlet2.3/JSP1.2 containers (Tomcat 4)
Use JSTL1.1 in anything more than that.

  • Unable to use JSTL fn tags in WL 8.1

    hi,
              I am trying to use JSTL functions tags in my struts app, and I am seeing this error...
              Error in using tag library uri='http://java.sun.com/jstl/functions' prefix='fn': Tag Library Descriptor contains no Tag descriptions
              probably occurred due to an error in /newgui/customerservice/AdditionalLines.jsp line 4:
              <%@ taglib uri = "http://java.sun.com/jstl/functions" prefix = "fn"%>
              I have the entry in web.xml as below...
              <taglib>
              <taglib-uri>http://java.sun.com/jstl/functions</taglib-uri>
              <taglib-location>/WEB-INF/tlds/fn.tld</taglib-location>
              </taglib>
              I also have the fn.tld in the tlds folder along with other core and sql tlds. core tlds are working (they are 1.0.4 version), but I am having trouble using fn tags.
              btw, I am running the struts web-app on WL 8.1 Sp4 (or sp3) not sure...
              Any help is greatly appreciated...
              thanks,
              Kiran :)

    Update: I just looked up the WL version and it's 8.1 sp3
              So, I guess, JSTL 1.1 (which includes jstl fn tags) is not supported by WL.... Someone correct me if I am wrong.
              Thanks,
              pal :)

    Thanks and Regards,

    For installing JSTL, all you need are the jar files in the web-inf/lib directory.
    - No entries in web.xml
    - no tld files lying around
    - no problems!
    I think you may have a versioning problem here.
    What version of Tomcat are you using?
    With JSP1.2 (eg Tomcat 4), you should be using JSTL1.0. <%@ taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jstl/core" %>
    With JSP2.0 (eg Tomcat 5), you should use JSTL1.1. <%@ taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" %>
    Note the difference in the URIs. - the second one includes a /jsp
    Currently you are using the URI for JSTL1.0, but you look to have the tld from JSTL1.1. If you are using a JSP1.2 container, I don't think it could read this tld file, hence the error.
    Try installing the correct version of JSTL, properly (ie as they tell you in the readme file) and it should all work.
    Cheers,
    evnafets

  • How do you run a boolean on a hashmap using JSTL?

    I am trying to test a hashmap to see if it has a certain value using JSTL.
    <jsp:useBean> id="something_map" class="java.util.HashMap" />
         <c:set target="${something_map}" property="submitted" value="goodbye" />
         ${something_map.submitted}
         <c:if test="{something_map.submitted == goodbye}">
         worked
         </c:if>
    I am creating a hashmap with the jsp:useBean tag. i set the maps name to "something_map."
    Then I made a key called submitted and set its value to goodbye.
    When I display "something_map.submitted", it successfully displays "goodbye", but when I run the <c:if> and test to see if "something_map.submitted" is equal to "goodbye", it doesn't work. How do I run a boolean on the value of a hashmap?
    p.s., i already tried using scope variables, but they don't work so well when they are updated several times over many pages.

    Also, to the person who said that I left out a $, that was I typo. I have it in on the original code and it didn't make a difference.Well it's not the equals bit. JSTL is a scripting language not Java.Sorry for the red herring. It's been a geologic age since I've done anything JSP-ish. I wasn't sure how closely JSTL aligns with the Java to which it compiles.

Build was succesfull as well and also - deployment was without errors - but - above mentioned error appeared during the automatic compilation of jsp pages/servlet when newly deployed jsps are first accessed from remote browser.
    So - is it possible, please, to receive some advice - what to do further? I feel that my invoice.jsp page can be with errors, - however - the original welcomeJSF.jsp should be working without errors even the erronwous JFS jsp page is added to web application.
    Thans for any adice or hint in advance!!!

  • Retaining of values in JSP while using JSTL

    Dear All,
    I have an application using the struts framework, wherein I am facing a problem.
    Here goes the problem " In my JSP's I have multiselect, the JSTL tags works fine when all the server side validations are done. But I get a problem when an error(server side validation error) occurs, I have to retain all the multiple values selected in the Multiselect box.
    Can anyone suggest me best way to retain the multiple values.
    E.g. My multiselect populates 5 values
    A
    B
    C
    D
    E
    As a end user I select "B, C,E", and a server side validation error occurs I have to keep the values "B, C, E" selected in the above list of 5 values using JSTL
    Thanking you in anticipation.
    regards,
    Mohan.

    Dear Friend,
    The control I am placing(multi select) has the data type in the form as String[],
    The validation error(server side) I was talking about is: I have 5 fields in JSP, in one of the 5 fields I have a title, which is unique in the database, if the end user enters an already existing title, then all the values previously (entered, selected) for rest of the controls should be retained and an error message from application resources is populated about the title duplication.
    Here I will show the entered values in text box and also the multi-selects, so using JSTL, I want a way out to retain the previously selected values....
    In my JSP for the control I say <input type="select" property="propertyname" multiple="true">

    Thank you

  • Posting huge data on to JSP page using JSTL tags

    Hi,
    I have one application where I have to post huge data (approximately 2000 rows of data) into JSP page. I am using JSTL tags and running on Tomcat 5.
    It is taking almost 20 to 25 seconds to load the entire page.
    Is it the optimal time to load or it could be improved?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks,
    --Subbu.

    Hi Evnafets,
    Thank you for the response.
    Here are the tasks I am doing to display the data on JSP.
    0. We are running on Tomcat 5 and the memory size is 1024MB (1GB).
    1. Getting the data - I am not performing any database queries. The data is stored in the static cache memory. So the server side response is so quick - less than a milli second.
    2. Using Java beans to pass data to the presentation layer (JSP).
    3. 10 'if' conditions and 2 'for' loops and 2 'choose' statements are being used in the JSP page while displaying the data.
    4. Along with the above, there are 4 javascript files are being used.
    5. The jsp file size after rendering the data, is aprox. 160 kb
    Hope this information helps you to understand the problem.
    Thanks,
    --Subbu.

  • Using JSTL variables in JSP or Javascript. Possible ?

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to share or use the variables which are declared are used by JSTL in JSP expression or scriplet code and in Java Script.
    Example:
    This Works:
    <fmt:set var="test" value="JSTL" />
    <fmt:out value="${test}" />
    But, this gives error:
    <% out.println(test) %>
    And passing the value of variable 'test' to Java Script code also gives error.
    How to use JSTL variables in JSP and in Javascript ?
    Yours,
    Sankar.B

    By default, JSTL variables are kept in servlet
    attributes. Default is to store it in the page
    context. You can make it request/session/application
    scope as required by an attribute of the set tag.Hi there,
    Can anyone advise how to access JSP variables in JSTL?
    Can it be done as the same method through request/session/application scope?
    Thnks...
