Uninstalling Java Updates

Hi everybody!
My PC has been accumulating a lot of Java updates for the past several years and quite frankly, they're taking up a lot of hard drive space. I would like to get rid of the unnecessary ones including the old versions so which one should I remove?
Here's the link, which shows the image of several Java updates in my Add/Remove Programs list.
Note that Java(TM) SE Development Kit 6 Update 7 is exempt from removal because I'm currently taking Java programming language course this semester.

I'd remove everything bar Java(TM) SE Development Kit 6 Update 7 ... just double check that it includes a JVM (bin\java.exe) first (I think they all do, but better safe than sorry.
1. check which installation is being used by your browsers (usually tools ~ options)... set to your JDK install.
<as previously stated>
2. check your PATH and your CLASSPATH variables (right click My computer ~ properties ~ advanced ~ environment variables)
PS: [easy-uninstaller|http://uninstaller.qarchive.org/] is nice and thorough.
Cheers. Keith.

    Is it possible to downgrade java on OS X 10.6.8? I'm currently running 1.6.0-31 of Java. I support some of my company's ERP systems and need to test the build 33 update. If it proves to be incompatible, I will need to unistall it later.

    I suggest you install on a test system. To downgrade, you'd have to erase the boot volume, reinstall the OS, and update to a previous version.

    Java 6 you can't as Apple maintains it, and Java 7 you could if you uninstall it and Oracle provides the earlier version which they likely won't his last update fixed 37 remote exploits.
    Java broken some software here and there, all you'll have to do is wait for a update from the other parties.

  • Firefox is blocking Java even though I had the updated version. Now I can't update or uninstall Java.

    On 4/2/12 Firefox informed me that Java had serious issues with security and I should let them block it, so I did. Later I found I couldn't play Pogo anymore so I tried to enable Java but it still wouldn't work. My Java is up to date, 6.0.290.11. Now I cannot update Java, error 1606, nor can I uninstall Java from my computer, same error cannot access location, in order to re-install. Since I was using the most updated version, my Java should not have been blocked. Anyone else have this problem? I am stuck and can't update or re-install or anything.

    I have the latest version and today it blocked it

  • How to uninstall java 8 update 40 from my macbook air

    Using MacBook Air Mid 2012, software OS X 10.10.2.  Want to uninstall Java 8 Update 40 from my system
    as it is causing some problems in reading some files.  Could someone guide me how to do that as the Java
    software does not show in Applications folder and I am unable to find any other way.

    The feature is called Continuity.
    And it requires an iPhone using the same  Apple ID for Messages as the Mac, and that Text Message Forwarding be enabled in Messages settings on the iPhone.
    If all is set correctly, try signing out and back in of Messages on both the iPhone, and the Mac.

  • Latest JAVA update breaks numerous web page services - how do I uninstall?

    Since applying the most recent JAVA update, Java server pages that use dropdown menus that worked in the past no longer stay dropped down. On the click down action, the menu appears briefly then disappears so it is now impossible to use these critical menus.
    Clearly something is defective in this update. How do I uninstall it?
    Thanks,
    Ross

  • Update java 7 without uninstalling java 6?

    Hi Folks,
    I have some apps that need java 6. However, I'd like to upgrade my java 7 installation to Update 13. Any idea how to go about doing this?
    thanks!

    what [little] I've seen in our Java deployments (I remember seeing 6u21, 6u27, 6u35, 6u37 on machines that hat 7u9)The idea is to use the Java updater to update existing runtimes in stead of reinstalling new ones all the time. Then you'd have only one copy of Java 6 and only one copy of Java 7 at all times. That works great on a per machine basis.
    the wording on this page: http://java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml
    Yes that's a standard security related disclaimer. "If you have older versions lying around, you run some risk and we're not going to be held responsible for it" bla bla bla.
    The risk depends on those runtimes actually being used or not; if you have a Java 6 update 1 but no browser is configured to use its plugin, there is no issue. Its the browser sandbox that is full of holes, the actual runtime itself has little to do with all the hyperventilation about security risks going around.

  • HT4883 Uninstall or Update Java

    I cannot install Java Update 1, it says that a newest version is already installed, but I cannot find it. So, how to do?

    Launch the Java Preferences.app in /Applications/Utilities/ and report back with the Java version listed.

  • Why does I have always JAVA update on the App Store even I have uninstall JAVA on my MacBook Pro

    I have remove JAVA on my MACBOOK PRO. But Apple Store still give me JAVA update. I don't understand. If someone can give me an explanatiion, it would be fine.
    Thanks,
    Romaric

    Ds store is NOT correct. I don't have Java installed, and I never get those Java updates in the App Store. They will only show up if you have Java installed.
    However, you say you REMOVED Java. There's really no good way to remove all components of Java once installed, so you still have some parts of Java installed somewhere, and that's triggering the updates.
    Don't worry about removing Java, just disable it in any web browsers you use. See:

  • Uninstalled Java 6, installed Java 7, keep getting requests to install Java SE 6 plugin. Why?

    Because of the security issues with Java, I uninstalled Java 6 (using various terminal commands) and installed Java 7 from Oracle's website. Looking at /Library/Internet Plug-Ins, I can see that JavaAppletPlugin.plugin is there, and Get Info tells me that it is part of Java 7 Update 09.
    However, when I use Safari to try out a Java test page, or use one of the Java-based programs that I need to run for work, I get a message that says, "To open “PluginProcess,” you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?"  (PluginProcess is replaced by the program name if I am running a Java program.) If I click "Install", the Apple version of Java 6 gets installed.
    This doesn't make sense to me. Why would Java 7 need the Apple Java 6 environment? And why doesn't Safari or other Java based programs recognize that the Java 7 JavaAppletPlugin.plugin is on my computer already?
    Although I'm not really an IT person, I am pretty handy with the Terminal and command line operations, so if fixing this means using the command line, I'm good with that.
    Thanks!

    I think I've found a solution to the problem that Java Applications doesn't use Java 7. This seems to work for me. Try it and please confirm if it works for you.
    1.
    Install Java SE Development Kit 7u9 from Oracle
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7u9-downloads-1859576 .html
    2.
    Execute something that triggers the prompt to install Java SE 6. for example i web site using java applet. And follow through with the installation. (after this you will have three java versions: Java6 32-bit, Java6 64-bit, Java7 64-bit)
    3.
    Open a new terminal window and execute the following commands.
    $ cd /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions
    $ sudo rm CurrentJDK
    Password: ********
    $ sudo ln -s /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.7.0_09.jdk/Contents/ CurrentJDK
    $ sudo ln -s CurrentJDK 1.7
    $ sudo ln -s CurrentJDK 1.7.0
    Note: I don't know if the last two lines are necessary, but I just tried to follow the existing pattern.

  • Error Message 1316 while uninstalling Java 2 Runtime Env SE v1.4.2_03msi

    I recently updated to Java 10 while in the process of clearing some nasty virus/malware off my system. I worked with a tech guide to do the clean up. He told me to uninstall old updates, including Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03. In the process, I got this error message:
    Error 1316 - A network error occurred while attempting to read from file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03msi.
    then I clicked OK to continue and got a Fatal Error at the end and the uninstall was unsuccessful.
    The tech guide told me that "hackers can use script to infect you via these old versions." The virus/malware we caught was spyware and serious. I'm serious about getting clean... any advice please?
    Thanks -
    BirdieKaie

    Update 10. As in "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_09\ <<< Java just updated to 10, update your version please."

  • I have uninstalled Java  - how do I get it back?

    Hi,
    I uninstalled Java & Adobe FLash - just as a precaution - did a scan and check and clean up of my Mac, now how do I get those two applications back? And ensure they are clean?
    Thanks
    Tracy

    I have reinstalled Java - worked fine - thank you. I was reading the other posts about the previous version being better. SHould I uninstall again and reinstall the earlier version Javafor Mac OS 10.7?
    Stick with the latest version. In that particular case he needed the previous version because a program he uses didn't work anymore with the update.
    Also when I went to the adobe link it was all in Italian. Is there an English version or doesn't it matter?
    I think the Flash Player is multilingual. Anyway if you want to be sure go to the following page and then click "Get the latest version"

  • Java update on firefox 31

    Have firefox version 31, when check shows Java is vulnerable, have Se7 U51,10.51.2.13. When click on the box to update brings me to a Java page of articles. So how do I just update to the correct version from what have ??

    Hi jscher:
    Thanks for responding.
    To answer your first question, no. There are no notifications, block, unblock or, for that matter, Java's status window that would indicate whether the Java plugin is installed. In short, Java 8 update 11 is virtually non-existent in Firefox 31.0. That being said, I uninstalled Java 8 and then installed, Java 7 update 67 (latest *working* version of Java for Firefox). Now, and this is important, once Java is installed, it is necessary to go into Java's installed folder (Win 7 x64) and disable the "deployment" file that will make Firefox give a red flag warning: (C:\Program Files x86\Java\jre7\bin\dtplugin. In that folder, edit deployJava1.dll and npdeployJava1.dll so that
    both files look like this: deployJava1.dll.BAK and npdeployJava1.dll.BAK. By adding .BAK at the end of these two files, the Firefox "Vulnerability" warning will not show when you check your Add-ons plugins status.
    I hope this helps others.
