Unity 7 upgrade to Unity Connection 10.5

Hello,
We need to complete an upgrade from Unity 7 to Unity Connection 10.5. Note: This is UNITY 7 and not Unity Connection 7. I understand that this will involve using the COBRAS tool to perform the upgrade.
The challenge is that no ESW/UCSS contracts exist, so of course the upgrade will have to be purchased. The upgrade guide for Unity Connection 8.x provides information on the process of migrating from Unity to UCXN however the upgrade guide for UCXN 10.5 does not. My question is whether or not it is possible to upgrade from Unity 7 directly to UCXN 10.5 in order to save from purchasing UCXN 8 (which may not even be possible anymore due to end of sale)?
Any info you may be able to provide to assist with this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
You can use the COBRAS tool to take a backup from Unity 7.0 and restore it on Unity Connection 10.5. Consolidated Object Backup and Restore Application Suite (COBRAS) is a set of tools designed to allow administrators to backup all subscribers, call handlers, interview handlers, public distribution lists, and schedules and to restore some or all of that information onto another Unity or Connection server.  It is specifically designed to allow for partial restores, restores onto different versions or products than the version that was backed up, and “merges” of data from multiple system backups.
http://www.ciscounitytools.com/Applications/General/COBRAS/Help/COBRAS_Briefcase/COBRAS_Briefcase.htm#_Toc383446481
The link lists support upto Unity Connection 10.0 , but 10.5 is also supported.

  • Error during upgrading Cisco Unity Connection to SU2

    Help!
I'm facing an error while upgrading Cisco Unity Connection 8.5.1.10000-26 to SU2 (8.5.1.12900-7).
When it's trying to download the SU2 file (UCSInstall_UCOS_8.5.1.12900-7.sgn.iso ) to Unity Connection after 2GB I get this error:
Error encountered: Upgrade has detected that the ISO file name has been changed from the original name. This is not allowed. MD5 Hash Value: 32:32:db:47:99:48:c6:53:12:e2:78:76:94:90:a4:1d
I tried this from multlpe FTP servers and I downloaded the SU2 file multlpe times assuming the download was bad.  I also rebooted the Unity Connection server here and there assuming it was something with the server.
I first tried SU1, but that gave the same error, so I attempted to go with SU2.
    Any ideas for resolving this?
    Thank you!
    -rya

    Hi Rya,
OK...well you've certainly done your due diligence here
Did you run an MD5 check after the download to compare the file values?
I had a long look for bugs related to this issue and came up empty so I can't see
a bug being the cause of the issues here. Is it possible for you to try "burning" the
upgrade .iso to a DVD and trying again?
I am also curious why you wouldn't move straight to 8.5(1)SU4
    Cheers!

  • Upgrading to Unity 4.0(5) from 4.0(2) documentation help for Cobras export

I'm upgrading our Unity 4.0(2)  to unity connection 8.x. I know that I'll need to use COBRAS to migrate the data however, it looks like I have to at least upgrade the unity server to 4.0(5), thank you Chris Dean for confirming the correct path, beofre I can even use COBRAS to export the data.
Theres little info on how to do this. I found the 4.0(5) release notes that have be download two Cisco Unity 4.0(5) CD's however, there is no info where to go from there. Do I boot off the CD's run the CUInstallexe. on the CD...will this preserve my data or overwrite my current install of Cisco Unity?
Anyone have any gotchas in this setup. Again my goal is just to get Unity to a version so I can use COBRAS.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/voice_ip_comm/unity/405/release/notes/cu405rn.html#wp417468
    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hi,
COBRAS tools supports backups from 4.0(3). But it's fine you can jup to 4.0(5)
    http://www.ciscounitytools.com/Applications/General/COBRAS/Help/COBRAS_Briefcase/COBRAS_Briefcase.htm#_Toc330199754
The link we had for upgrading to 4.0(5) seems to be broken, it redirects you to the EoS/EoL notice for unity 4.X. This is a minor upgrade and basically you'll need to take a DIRT backup (in case anything goes wrong you can go back to the current version). You ca check the DB status running a DBwalker and then you'll basically need to run the CUInstall.exe from the install CD/DVD.

  • Unity 7 to Unity Connection 8

this is a design question and best way to go about doing this:
we have Unity 7 voicemail only in it's own domain on box exchange. we have a total of 5 servers like this connected together around the world.
we want to move to Unity Connection HA at all thye sites and network digitally. We want to integrate to their existing corporate domain. we must preserve greetings and passwords and callhandlers but not voicemail. what and how do we do this.

COBRAS cannot maintain passwords since Microsoft AD stores them in a one-way hash. Cisco's documentation says this:
Passwords for Cisco Unity web applications cannot be exported because they are stored in Active Directory. When you create new user accounts by importing data, every account will get the same password, which is the password in the template that you specify when you import data.
You can have internal user accounts in Unity Connection; or syncronize them to UCM or Microsoft AD through AXL or LDAP respectively after import. Unlike Unity, Unity Connection is read-only with LDAP so the schema extensions are no longer relevent.
I'm not sure what your migration strategy is; however, it is possible to digitally network a Unity 8 site (i.e. you would have to upgrade those first) to Unity Connection 8 site. The Design Guide has a whole chapter on this: Migrating from Cisco Unity to Cisco Unity Connection 8.x. You may want to spend some time reading that and deciding on the best course of action.

  • Unity Upgrade - 4.0(5) to 7.0 Cobras and GSM - Internet Subscriber

I am upgrading from Unity 4.0(5) to 7.0. I have the old and new Unity servers in the same AD domain. I ran cobras export, then migrated all users to the new Unity server using GSM. GSM doesn't appear to move Internet Subscribers and neither does cobras. I tried adding an Internet subscriber to the new Unity server and got the error "this extension is in use by subscriber XYZ". I deleted the Internet subscriber from the old Unity and tried adding it to the new server and received the new error. At this point the subscriber does not appear in either Unity server. I have deleted the associate contact from AD and still can not add it to the new system.
dbwalker is clean. How can I correct this problem?

    Hi William,
Cobras has it limitation when it comes to internet subscriber -
noted in the link : Internet subscribers, Bridge, AMIS, SMTP users and such will not be included.
    http://www.ciscounitytools.com/Applications/General/COBRAS/Help/COBRAS.htm
You might try using Subscriber Information Dump under tools depot > administration tools > Subscriber Information Dump and export and import to the new unity server.

  • Unity upgrade

Going to do a Unity upgrade and have new server. Current running is 4.0(4). Going to 4.2.
Would like to do DIRT and blow it away and build on new server with same name and ip and such.
Is it possible just do do the resture and away we go or is this not possible?
    Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Paul.

Yes, it can be done, just remember that you need to restore in the exact same version as the backup (including ES if you have), so you have two options:
    1) Upgrade your current server to 4.2, backup the server. Install 4.2 in the new server and restore.
    2) Backup your server, install 4.0(4) in the new server, restore and then upgrade to 4.2

  • Unity UM to Unity CN 8.5

Is there a migration path to go from Unified Messaging with Unity to Unity Connections 8.5 with single inbox with exchange?
I'm assuming we can use Cobra to move over mailboxes and auto attendants, but they have to be linked back to LDAP and the user's exchange mailbox somehow.  Is this a manual process?   Can it even be done?

If you bought the MBP new 3 weeks ago, it should have come with Mountain Lion already installed. Did you update your MBP to the newly released 10.8.4 update? If not, what OS were you running before the upgrade, and what version of Mountain Lion do you have now?

  • Upgrade path from Unity / Exchange to Unity Connection 7.1

Has anyone found (perhaps doesn't exist) an upgrade path from Unity / Exchange 4.1 to Unity Connection 7.1?

It will likely require a new server, but I just performed this migration.  You also have to be on Unity 4.0(5) or higher in order to perform the migration.  You use the COBRAS Export tool for Unity to grab the majority of system data and the COBRAS Import tool for Connection to migrate data over.  Read up on COBRAS here:

I am running 8.0.2 and I want to go to 8.5.1.
If I upgrade CUCM, is it gona automaticly upgrade Unity connection ? if not how do I upgrade Unity

    Hello Jaime,
    so , if i have a version : 8.5.1.10000-26
and need to move to version like : 8.6 ... or 8.5 SU6 .. I should normally download the same file from cisco as if iam upgrading the CUCM only ? ...
and is their any consideration when doing that update ? .. I have done many updates but for CUCM and CUC separately ...

  • Unity upgrade/rebuild

    hi everyone
I have to upgrade unity 4.2 to 5.x over the weekend, Im wondering is it more straightforward to just rebuild it, keeping old messages is not important so I figured maybe a clean build would be easier?? Im not familiar with the process though so just wanted to check which was best option
Also Im going to take the server off site to rebuild and then bring back to site when finished, i will be rebuilding with same ip address etc but wondered is there any important information I need before rebuilding or should it straight forward to get the newly rebuilt server working with the original callmanager again??
    thanks

Pretty much, if the stuff COBRAS does not backup is not something you really need, you can use the tool.
Otherwise it would mean building the new server with exact same version for DIRT restore and the upgrade.
All this is from the help file
    Usage Scenarios
This is not a comprehensive list of uses but is  intended to demonstrate the targeted uses of COBRAS in the field.
    Straight backup and restore
COBRAS can be used for simply backing up all  subscribers, call handlers, schedules, distribution lists, interviewers and routing rules  and restoring them to a clean install of Unity or Connection after a  failure.  For just plain backup and restore  scenarios where the version of Unity is not changing, however, DiRT (for Unity or  for Connection 1.x) or DRS (for Connection 2.x and later) is the better tool  since it’s faster and includes data COBRAS does not such as COS objects, name  lookup handlers and holiday information.  See the Data  Not Backed Up section for more details on what’s not included with COBRAS backups.
Restore onto a different version or product (migration)
COBRAS is unique in that it can take backed up data  from a Unity 4.0(5) and restore it to a Unity 4.0(5) or later system.  COBRAS can also move from Unity to Unity Connection 7.0.  There are, of course, some items that cannot go between versions and products given the differences  in features and data structures across them.  Be sure to review the details in the Data  Backed Up and Restored section below to understand what’s potentially lost when going across versions  or products.
NOTE:  When restoring a Unity backup to another Unity installation, the version can be different but must be later than  the version backed up.  You can restore to the same version or later only, you cannot restore to an older  installation of Unity.  See the Version  Support table below.

  • Unity 7 to Unity Connection 8.x migration

I am in the planning stage of a migration of users from Unity 7.x to Unity Connection 8.5.
Can anyone provide me with their experience of how many users/per m
inute or hour they were able to move.  I will not be moving messages.
    Thank you,
    Terry

Although there is no calculation according to The Answer Monkey, I will tell you that we moved several thousand users in less than an hour without messages.
I would also suggest that you plan to create a placeholder user for the AA import. Any AA's that point to users should get this placeholder user. Then import all the users. Then reimported the AA's and overwrite the pointers with the proper destinations.
You do need to plan the import properly if you are going to have PTs and CSS's in the new system. I think they are great for segmentation. You also have to import according to user template if you need to set things that can not be done via Bulk Edit or Class Of Service (I also highly recommend CoS use for future edits and MACs)
