Unity connection SMPP provider

we migrated from unity 7.02 to unity connection 8.62a. Our SMPP provider however is complaining however that the tcp sessions are being kept open to their sms gateway since we migrated . No issues before , each session was opened up and then closed  but apparently now the session is being kept open . we have been told that we must adjust the client end (our unity connection server) to drop the session.
the client was not closing connections anymore, but creating one for each message.
Leaving aside the fact that it is not a good practice to create a separate session for each message
'the client was is closing connections anymore, but creating one for each message.
Leaving aside the fact that it is not a good practice to create a separate session for each message'
the 1st two slides show the unity setup and the 3rd shows the unity connection setup.
any advise on how to make this change or as to why theres a difference between the two clients would be appreciated.

Hello Jeff,
It would be interesting to see what CUC reports in this situation to confirm or refute the provider.
My suggestion would be to enable the following traces:
Problem Area
Traces to Set
RTMT Service to Select
Trace Log Filename
SMS notifications
Notifier (all levels except 6 and 7)
Connection Conversation Manager
diag_CuCsMgr_*.uc
Connection Notifier
diag_CuNotifier_*.uc
Also a packet capture on the CUC (pub and sub if applicable), from CLI do:
-  This command starts the initiation of gathering packets:
utils network capture eth0 count 100000 size all file
Where 'filename' is a random name that you would like to provide; the 'count' is the size of the packets that will be captured.
Once this capture is running you can reproduce the issue and once you finish hold Crtl+C and that will terminate the capture session.
-The file will be saved in platform/cli/filename.cap
Where 'filename' is a random name that you provided.
To gather the packet capture go to: RTMT (Real Time Monitoring Tool)>Trace and Log central> Collect Files> Click Next> Packet Capture.
I haven't ever run into this issue before, therefore posible steps are unlikely unless there is more information on the CUC perspective with further tracing/debugging.
Sincerely,
-Vavid

  • Unity Connection 8.5 Outcall notification to device too agressive?

I’ve noticed the Unity Connection 8.5 outcall notification is too aggressive. Is there a way to change the outcall parameters to wait x minutes between redials?
For example Connection called my cell phone, while I am inputting my PIN I get a second call from Connection alerting me to new messages.  While I’m listening to the messages I get a third call from Connection. I noticed same problem if device is my desk 7962 phone.

    Hi Jason,
These timers can be changed via the User or User Template pages
    User Templates New Notification Device
    Revised November 16, 2010
Table 3-21     User Template New Notification Device Page
    Field Description
    Notification Device Type
Select a type of notification device from the list.
    Display Name
Enter a descriptive name for the notification device.
    Phone Number
(Applicable only to phone and pager notification devices.) Enter the phone number, including trunk access code, of the selected device. Use digits 0 through 9 and the following dialing characters in the phone number:
    •, (comma) to insert a one-second pause.
•# and * to correspond to the # and * keys on the phone.
Users can change this number by phone.
    Extra Digits
(Applicable only to phone and pager notification devices.) Enter any extra digits that Cisco Unity Connection dials after the phone number. The effect of the extra digits depends on the selected device. For pagers, the extra digits are shown on the pager display.
For example, the extra digits could be used to include a callback number when sending notifications to numeric pager devices. Extra digits can also be used to reach an extension, where the notification is configured to dial a public 800 access number and the extra digits would be sent at the opening greeting in order to reach the target extension.
Duration to Wait Before Dialing Extra Digits
(Applicable only to phone and pager notification devices.) Cisco Unity Connection can wait a specified number of seconds before dialing the digits in Extra Digits. Use this option if the automatic call progress detection is not reliable (for example, when phone lines are noisy or when ringing patterns are unusual).
    Rings to Wait
(Applicable only to phone and pager notification devices.) Enter the number of times that Cisco Unity Connection allows the user phone to ring before ending the attempt. The setting must be at least 3 rings. Enter a higher number to give a user more time to get to the phone.
    Default setting: 4 rings.
    Busy Retry Limit
(Applicable only to phone and pager notification devices.) Indicates the number of times that Cisco Unity Connection tries to reach a user number that is busy. Select a higher number to reach someone who uses the phone frequently.
    Default setting: 4 times.
    Busy Retry Interval
(Applicable only to phone and pager notification devices.) Indicates the number of minutes that Cisco Unity Connection waits between attempts to reach a user number that is busy. Select a higher number to reach someone who has long phone conversations.
    Default setting: 5 minutes.
    RNA Retry Limit
(Applicable only to phone and pager notification devices.) Indicates the number of times that Cisco Unity Connection tries to reach a user who does not answer the phone. Select a higher number to reach someone who steps away from the phone briefly. Select a lower number to avoid disturbing others.
    Default setting: 4 times.
    RNA Retry Interval
(Applicable only to phone and pager notification devices.) Indicates the number of minutes that Cisco Unity Connection waits between attempts to reach a user who does not answer the phone. Select a higher number to reach a user who is away from the phone for long periods of time.
    Default setting: 15 minutes.
    Retries After Successful Attempt
(Applicable only to pager notification devices.) Indicates the number of times that Cisco Unity Connection calls the pager device after the first successful call to the device while the message that triggered the notification is still marked new. Use this setting in conjunction with the Retry Interval After Successful Attempt setting if users need additional reminders of new messages, or if users sometimes do not receive notifications even though the first call to the pager is successful.
If set to a value greater than 0 (zero), Connection makes periodic calls based on the Retry Interval After Successful Attempt until the user checks the message or the retry limit is reached. For example, if Retries After Successful Attempt is set to 2 and Retry Interval After Successful Attempt is set to 15, and the user receives a new message at noon, Connection will call the pager device at noon. If that call is answered, but the user does not check the message before 12:15 pm, Connection calls the pager device again at 12:15 pm. If the user does not check the message before 12:30 pm, Connection calls the pager device a second time at 12:30 pm.
Note This setting generates a series of notifications that is separate from the series that is generated if you enable the Repeat Notification If There Are Still New Messages setting on the Edit Notification Device page. To avoid confusing the user with multiple repeating notifications, we recommend that you use either the Retries After Successful Attempt setting or the Repeat Notification If There Are Still New Messages setting, but not both.
Enter a value between 0 and 100. A value of 0 (zero) means that Connection does not retry the notification after the first successful call to the pager.
    Default setting: 0.
    Retry Interval After Successful Attempt
(Applicable only to pager notification devices.) Indicates the interval at which Cisco Unity Connection retries calling the pager device after the first successful call to the device if Retries After Successful Attempt is set to a value greater than 0 (zero) and the user has not yet checked the message. Use this setting in conjunction with the Retries After Successful Attempt setting if users need additional reminders of new messages, or if users sometimes do not receive notifications even though the first call to the pager is successful.
Enter a value between 0 and 100 minutes. A value of 0 (zero) means that Connection makes additional retries as soon as a port is available to dial the device.
    Default setting: 1 minute.
    Phone System
(Applicable to phone and pager notification devices only.) Select the phone system that the notification device uses.
Prompt for User ID on Notifications
(Applicable only to phone notification devices.) Indicate whether Cisco Unity Connection should prompt the user to enter a user ID. The user is always asked for a PIN. Users may prefer not to enter a user ID in order to shorten the time that it takes to sign in.
Note Use this setting with caution and only if the phone is never answered by anyone other than the user.
    SMPP Provider
(Applicable only to SMS notification devices.) Select the applicable SMPP provider.
    To
(Applicable only to SMTP and SMS notification devices.) Depending on whether you are setting up message notification for a text-compatible mobile phone or pager, or for SMS (SMPP) devices:
•For SMTP text message notifications, enter the email address of the user text pager, text-compatible mobile phone, or another email account (such as a home email address).
•For SMS (SMPP) text message notifications, enter the phone number of the SMS-compatible device. The format and the number that you enter depends on the SMPP Provider. The provider may require that you include international country codes, beginning with a plus sign and followed by the country code, area, city, or trunk code, and then the number for the device (for example, +12065551234). Do not start with a zero or the international dialing prefix. Do not include spaces, dashes, parentheses or other punctuation.
Up to 128 characters can be entered in this field.
    From
(Applicable only to SMTP and SMS notification devices.) For text-compatible mobile phones or pagers, enter the phone number that the user calls to check messages, or enter alphanumeric text (as applicable) in this field. The From phone number appears in the last line of any SMTP notification. A user can press the Return Call button on many text-compatible mobile phones to dial the phone number. The mobile phone must support automatic callback in order to use this feature.
For SMS (SMPP) devices, what you enter in this field depends on the SMPP Provider:
•If the SMPP Provider requires a "source address" for the server sending the message, enter the IP address for the Cisco Unity Connection server.
•If the SMPP Provider does not require a "source address," enter the number that the user calls to check messages.
Note Consider that some SMPP Providers replace the number that you enter in the From field with their own phone number. For an alternative method of including a call back number, try entering the number that the user calls to check messages in the Message Text field.
Up to 40 characters can be entered in this field.
    Message Header
(Applicable only to SMTP notification devices.) Enter any text you want Connection to put into the header of the notification message. For example, you might enter a legal disclaimer that you want to be sent with every notification message.
    Message Text
(Applicable only to SMTP and SMS notification devices.) Enter the text message that the user wants to receive in a text notification. For example, you might enter "Urgent message for Technical Support" for a user who is on call for the technical support department. Every time a message arrives that matches the criteria selected in the message notification settings, Cisco Unity Connection sends the text you enter here.
Note To include a call back number, try entering the number that the user calls to check messages within the message text (for example, enter the number in this format: tel:2065551212).
Up to 160 characters can be entered in this field. (For SMS devices, depending on the character set you configure Connection to use, it is possible that messages that are shorter than 160 characters may be truncated.)
    Message Footer
(Applicable only to SMTP notification devices.) Enter any text you want Connection to put into the footer of the notification message. For example, you might enter a legal disclaimer that you want to be sent with every notification message.
Include Message Information in Message Text
(Applicable only to SMTP and SMS notification devices.) Check this check box to include information about the new message in the text string that is sent to the notification device. This information can include caller name and caller ID (if available); the type of message (voice, email, fax); the time that the message was received; and, if the message was marked private or urgent, an indication of this status.
Include Message Count in Message Text
(Applicable only to SMTP and SMS notification devices.) Check this check box if you want the notification to include a count of the number of new messages in the mailbox.
Include a Link to Cisco PCA in Message Text
(Applicable only to SMTP notification devices.) Check this check box to include a link to the Cisco Personal Communications Assistant in the text string that is sent to the SMTP notification device.

  • Unity Connection Integration with CS 1000 and Meridian 81 - PIMG

I have a customer who have  (2) Nortel Meridian 81 and (1) CS1000  for their 3 locations along with Octal 350 servicing 2500 voicemail users today. Customer also has a  Cisco UCM in their network today which is servicing their wireless phone users.
UCM and CS1000 are networked together using Q.Sig trunks today. Customer is looking at replacing their Octal solution with a new Voice mail solution.
I was looking at integration documents for Unity Connection using PIMG.
In this  scenario, would I need 3 separate PIMG 's at the three remote sites and integrate it with Unity connection or Can I achieve this using just one PIMG at one of the sites, considering the three sites are trunked together using tie-trunks.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/7x/integration/pimg/guide/cucintpimg090.html#wp1051831
    Appreciate any pointers/ help.

    Hi there,
Just to add a note to the great tips from Hailey (+5 Hailey!)
We are in the final stages of replacing our "old" Octel with Unity Connection, part of
which is integrated to our CS1000 and CUCM in a "Hybrid" deployment like yours
    Centralized Voice Messaging
Cisco Unity Connection supports centralized voice messaging through the phone system, which supports
various inter-phone system networking protocols including proprietary protocols such as Avaya DCS,
Nortel MCDN, or Siemens CorNet, and standards-based protocols such as QSIG or DPNSS. Note that
centralized voice messaging is a function of the phone system and its inter-phone system networking,
not voice mail. Connection will support centralized voice messaging as long as the phone system and its
inter-phone system networking are properly configured.

Centralized voice messaging provides voice messaging services to all users in a networked phone system environment. Connection can be hosted on a message center PINX and provide voice messaging services to all users in an enterprise assuming the message center PINX and all user PINX phone systems are properly networked. For a centralized voice messaging configuration to exist, a suitable inter-phone system networking protocol must exist to deliver a minimum level of feature support, such as:•Message waiting indication (MWI).•Transfer, which ensures that the correct calling/called party ID is delivered to the voice messaging system.•Divert, which ensures that the correct calling/called party ID is delivered to the voice messaging system.Other features may be required depending on how the voice messaging system is to be used. For example, if it is also serving as an automated attendant, path-replacement is needed as this feature prevents calls from hair-pinning.

  • Licensing for Unity Connection after Upgrade from 8.5 to 9.1.2

I upgraded my Unity connection from 8.5.1 to 9.1.2. ( my CUCM is still on 8.5.1) . I have 200 CUWL-STD ( 2200 DLUs), and 50 CUWL-PRO (850 DLUs) . Now I am working with Cisco to get a license file for Unity Connection and apply that to my ELM. I attached my licensing page for when I was in 8.5.1 . Just want to make sure if I will be getting enough license with that license file, or possibly I need to buy more. Someone told me that if I want to have users with mailbox I need to order more licenses since every user take one CUWL license.
Honestly i do not know how CUWL licensing work regardig to Unity or even CUCM.
    Thanks,

  • How to set-up voice mail to email on Unity Connection 8.6

    Hi all,
I need to set-up voice mail to email notification on a Unity Connection 8.6 MCS78XX server.  I've read several existing threads related to the subject, but have had somewhat of a difficult time finding a posting that provided a simplified approach with either or both of the options listed below.  I'm hoping and asking to receive a response (or responses) that will break it down.
    The intent is to either:
     A) Have new voice mail messages sent to end-user's e-mail inboxes as .wav files.
     B) Have notifications be e-mailed to end-user's inboxes whenever there is a new voice mail.
Cisco Unity Single Inbox is not the preferred method at this point.
I thank you all for your input and assistance!

Manish, if I may... I read the 2nd thread and it mentions the addition of the Exchange IP address under the smart host field... and it appears that the Exchange will also need the IP address of the Unity Connection server for relay...
question: under the Unity SMTP config options --> Server --> SMTP Domain --> can/should this be changed over to the Unity's IP address in an environment where the Unity Server's name is not resolvable?  The Unity Server in this case is not configured with DNS...  please advise
    Thank you again!

  • Unity Connection 8.6 to 10.5(2) Upgrade

I am planning the following upgrade which I have completed fine in our lab , I just have a query in regard to this statement I found in the upgrade guide.
If you are upgrading from Unity Connection 8.6 or earlier, you must install all the applicable licenses before you upgrade to Unity Connection release 9.x and later. This is because the installed license information considered as legacy license data is required to migrate licenses. After you upgrade to Unity Connection 9.x and later releases, you can not apply legacy licenses using the Prime License Manager. For more information see the Migrating Licenses from Unity Connection 8.6 and Earlier Releases section.
I'm not sure what Cisco mean by "applicable licences" .Do they mean any outstanding licencing for 8.6 or perhaps the new licencing for PLM (though I doubt it).We are already running CUCM 10.5 with PLM so I was just going to point the unity connection server at it once done but this worried me a little.
anyone got a view on this?

    Hi
It means ensure you have all your 8.6 licensing (everythign you bought so far) on the server before you upgrade. When you upgrade, you'll migrate to ELM, and that will get licenses based on what you had on your 8.6 at the point of the upgrade.
If you don't do that you'll have to go through some pain with Cisco, proving what you bought, providing SO numbers etc etc.

  • Cisco Unity Connection not relaying voicemails outside the organization

Hi all, we are running Cisco Unity Connection version: 8.6.2ES25.21900-25.  It has been set up to accept voicemails for Exchange 2010 users (in other words email messages with WAV attachments) and deliver these to their inboxes; this works with no problem.
I have two users who would like to receive these emails at their outside account, however the messages are never sent.  I have tried the following:
Changed the users corporate email addresses from "[email protected]" to "[email protected]"
Unchecked the option to "Generate SMTP Proxy Address From Corporate Email Address."
On the "Message Actions" page for their account I have configured voicemail and email to "Relay the message" and entered their external SMTP addresses.
Confirmed the smart host setup is OK (points to our Exchange 2010 CAS which has firewall rules in place to permit it to send mail outside the organization.
Confirmed the Exchange 2010 CAS will accept SMTP messages from the subnet the Unity Connection server resides in.
If I switch the user SMTP settings BACK to their original internal SMTP addresses for my company the messages are then immediately delivered properly to these addresses.  This signifies to me that Unity is periodically trying to send these items but they just aren't going out.  No sign of the messages in any user report I ran in Unity nor message tracking in Exchange.
I also tried setting up an Outlook rule to forward these voicemail messages to the recipients external addresses but this did not work and after doing some research I see that the way in which Unity delivers the messages to these recipients internally (via EWS) is the reason why.  I wonder if this is the same reason these are not going out to their external SMTP addresses.
    Thanks for any assistance provided!

Look at the transfer options for that particular user and make sure it's set to ring the phone, that configuration is PER user.

  • Unity 7 upgrade to Unity Connection 10.5

    Hello,
We need to complete an upgrade from Unity 7 to Unity Connection 10.5. Note: This is UNITY 7 and not Unity Connection 7. I understand that this will involve using the COBRAS tool to perform the upgrade.
The challenge is that no ESW/UCSS contracts exist, so of course the upgrade will have to be purchased. The upgrade guide for Unity Connection 8.x provides information on the process of migrating from Unity to UCXN however the upgrade guide for UCXN 10.5 does not. My question is whether or not it is possible to upgrade from Unity 7 directly to UCXN 10.5 in order to save from purchasing UCXN 8 (which may not even be possible anymore due to end of sale)?
Any info you may be able to provide to assist with this situation would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
You can use the COBRAS tool to take a backup from Unity 7.0 and restore it on Unity Connection 10.5. Consolidated Object Backup and Restore Application Suite (COBRAS) is a set of tools designed to allow administrators to backup all subscribers, call handlers, interview handlers, public distribution lists, and schedules and to restore some or all of that information onto another Unity or Connection server.  It is specifically designed to allow for partial restores, restores onto different versions or products than the version that was backed up, and “merges” of data from multiple system backups.
    http://www.ciscounitytools.com/Applications/General/COBRAS/Help/COBRAS_Briefcase/COBRAS_Briefcase.htm#_Toc383446481
The link lists support upto Unity Connection 10.0 , but 10.5 is also supported.

  • Unity 7 to Unity Connection 8.x migration

I am in the planning stage of a migration of users from Unity 7.x to Unity Connection 8.5.
Can anyone provide me with their experience of how many users/per m
inute or hour they were able to move.  I will not be moving messages.
    Thank you,
    Terry

Although there is no calculation according to The Answer Monkey, I will tell you that we moved several thousand users in less than an hour without messages.
I would also suggest that you plan to create a placeholder user for the AA import. Any AA's that point to users should get this placeholder user. Then import all the users. Then reimported the AA's and overwrite the pointers with the proper destinations.
You do need to plan the import properly if you are going to have PTs and CSS's in the new system. I think they are great for segmentation. You also have to import according to user template if you need to set things that can not be done via Bulk Edit or Class Of Service (I also highly recommend CoS use for future edits and MACs)

  • Cisco Unity Connection root account password

How could I get the linux root account password for my lab unity connection? I successfully created the account but it gives me a passphrase is there a tool to convert that into a password?

That only Cisco TAC can provide and only for legitimate troubleshooting purposes or to apply the workaround of a bug.
Look at htluo's blog, there was a non-supported method of creating a root account. It clearly mentions that the procedure should only be performed on non-production servers so if all you want is to play around with the lab server you can do it.

  • Migrating from Unity 7.0 to Unity Connection 8.5 on a new server.

    Hello all.
I am currently in the process of migrating from Unity 7.0 on a windows platform to Unity Connection 8.5 on a new Linux server. I was unaware that UC 8.x runs on Linux so this caught me off guard.
Can someone offer any tips, guides, links, etc. that may help me out?
Also, TAC said the procedure should consist of running a COBRAS Export in Unity 7.0 and then a COBRAS Import on the Unity Connection 8.5 box. I know how to do this on the Windows Platform, but I'm unsure as how to do it via Linux.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Correct, you need to download it from the provided link.
Read the help file for information on what is imported and what is not.

  • Unity Connections - can I save my voicemail message locally as a .wav file?

Is this possible and if so how?
I am running Unity Connections v7 on a CMBE system.
If I have IMAP setup, is the message attached, or is it a link?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steven

    Steven,
Yes, this is most definitely possible. If you have IMAP set up then you are using "Integrated Messaging" and your email client is configured as an IMAP client with Unity Connection as the IMAP server. You may or may not be using the ViewMail plugin for your email client. If you are using ViewMail, the default behavior is that the media control used to play the voicemail message provides the option to "save as" a WAV file. If you don't have the ViewMail control loaded, then the file is simply seen as a WAV file attachment and will be played using a desktop media play that the user has selected to play files with the .WAV attachment.

  • Scripting UCCX 9to Unity Connection 9 Directory Handler

My customer wants the voice enabled directory handler in Unity Connection 9.x but they do not want the "if you know your parties extension, you may dial it at any time" part.  My question is, is it possible to create a UCCX script to answer and provide a menu that, among other things, forwards the call to the directory handler but hits the 4 key to go directly to the "who do you want to call?" prompt so the caller never actually hears the part about knowing your parties extension?
Yes is seems petty and trivial however....

Sure. You an also build customer call handlers and directory handlers in Unity and record any prompt you want, so not sure why you would want to do it in UCCX unless you have some more advanced requirements, i.e. massage digits, lookup stuff via XML, DB, etc.

  • /RestoreRoutingRule CLI for Unity Connection

I am consolidating several unity 7.2 servers into Unity Connection 8.5.
I have hundreds of routing rules which are in use today which I need to recreate on the Unity Connection server.  I read in  the COBRAs help that I can run the CLI /RestoreRoutingRules to restore the routing rules which is what I would like to test.
In the COBRAS tool, I can not modify the path name of the backup to include the /RestoreRoutingRules so am just wondering how I do this?  If someone can provide a reference or direction on where / how I do this, it would be most helpful.
    Thanks.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by " I can not modify the path name of the backup " - you don't need to - when you run the COBRASImportForConnection.exe, you pass the "/RestoreRoutingRules" option on the command line.  So in other words you can open a command box on your Windows machine where you installed import, go to the directory where you installed it (by default C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\COBRAS\COBRAS Import for Connection\) and run the tool like this:
    COBRASImportForConnection /RestoreRoutingRules
it'll then offer you the option to include routing rules in your restore (a seperate wizard page will be displayed during the import for this).
You can also add the CLI option via the desktop shortcut if you'd rather but I usually just open a command box for such things.

  • Cisco Unity Connection 8.5.1

I need to setup voice mail that will get distributed out to a group of people but not all of them have a voice mail account in unity. I need to send this out through my exchange server to multipel email accounts. I can not put a distribution list for exchange in unity for it to send the message to everyone. I can not put a distribution list for exchange in unity for it to send the message to everyone.
This is an Exchange problem if you are doing this with the Message Action of either Accept and Relay or just Relay. Unity Connection just uses the SMTP address you provide so it would be no different from a normal Exchange receipient. By default Exchange does not allow unauthenticated users (i.e. Unity Connection) to email distribution lists. You would need to change the security settings:
