Unity-style application swapping in openbox

I missed the W-1 binding in unity, which launches an application if it's not already running or changes focus to it if it is already running, so I decided to implement the feature in openbox.
I wrote a bash script launch_or_swap, which is pretty simple:
#!/bin/bash
if wmctrl -lx | grep -i --quiet "$1"; then
wmctrl -x -a "$1"
else
"$1" &
fi
It uses wmctrl with the -x parameter to list the currently open windows, including their WM_CLASS. This list is piped to grep, which searches for the name of the application we are looking to access. For the three applications I am using this for (terminator, firefox, and evince), the application binary name is included in WM_CLASS. I don't know if this is always the case; YMMV. If an appropriate application window is found, wmctrl swaps to it. Otherwise, the application is launched.
To create the W-1 hotkey for terminator I added this to ~/.config/openbox/rc.xml:
<keybind key="W-1">
<action name="Execute">
<command>launch_or_swap terminator</command>
</action>
</keybind>
If anyone has suggestions for better ways to accomplish this or improvements, I'd be happy to hear them.

Openbox's menu is built in to the WM, but menumaker can work with dozens (or hundreds) of different menus.  Check the AUR for choices.
I used one quite a long time ago - I think it was 'mygtkmenu' - it felt a lot like the openbox menu, but it was actually easier to configure.

for cmd window -- the easiest way would be to change your *.bat or *.cmd to *.exe -- write a few-lines C/C++ that has a line
system("java MyApplication [params]"); -- that would eliminate cmd prompt.
for the icon - you definitely have to use exe or dll - the icons are Win-dependent packaging and *.cmd won't do it.
Look into packaging tools, ie WinInstall, InstallAnywhere.

    Hi
If you really "striving to become an expert", start with a simple application showing all files in a directory using JTable, letting the user select a new directory to show, go back to the privies director ans some more options.
If you like what you done so far, go into the JTree class and learn how to use it, then combine this class with what you already done.
Next step will probably be looking into Drag and Drop interface
This will use SWING, if AWT is what you want, your application will look poorer or you will spend a lot of time writing all this classes.
You can find all the info in this forum, spend a day or 2 to search and write. If you will do it all by yourself it will be the first step to become an expert .
    Good luck

  • Restroring unity conneciton application users in CMBE

    hi,
I think i am in a bit of a mess here, deleted the operator and undeliverablemessagesmailbox application users from cucm. unity connection now shows the operator user as as an orphaned account. Tried recreating the "operator" unity application user under cucm, but the operator account under unity connection is still not reassociating with the new "operator" application user account. how can revert back the operator account to its default configuration ?
Reassociated the undeliverablemessagesmailbox account under unity to a different user, need to change this as well and set the configuration to the way it was by deafult.
Appreciate all the help i can get.
    Thanks.
    Radhesh

You can have LDAP integrated users and local users on UCXN, if user was created initially by importing from LDAP, but then the user was deleted in LDAP within 48 hour that user is converted to local user. You can check that by searching the user in UCXN admin page and looking at the "LDAP Integration Status" setting on the main page.

  • WebDB Style Application & Login

I wish to use Portal 3.0 to write applications in a very similar style to those that you could create with WebDB.
Ideally I'd like to have a DAD that:
    a)
Directs the user to a Menu/Form Application
    b)
Forces a http login that requires the user to enter a DATABASE username & password.
    - i.e. not a Portal username & password.
    My questions are:
    a)
How do you configure the DAD to do this
    - use Basic authentication ?
    - don't specify an Oracle username and password ?
    b)
What privileges do you set on the Application (Menu & Forms).
    - As the Users are DATABASE users, how do I grant them access ?
    - Do I have to give PUBLIC access and rely upon the login ?
    - Do I need to create a PORTAL user for each DATABASE user ?
Thanks for any advice you can offer ?

I got it. It was a problem with the bookmark URL.
    The URL was http://rockingham:7779/pls/htmldb/f?p=101:1
    It should have been:
    http://rockingham:7779/pls/htmldb/f?p=101
We deleted the default login page (numbered 1) and now login to page 7. We did change the login process to page 7, but the bookmark URL kept overwriting it with page number 1.
However, when I log out of the app and then try to login I get the same error. Now I know why - the logout redirects to this URL:
    http://rockingham:7779/pls/htmldb/f?p=101:1
Is there any way for the logout to redirect to URL:
    http://rockingham:7779/pls/htmldb/f?p=101:7
    or simply to:
    http://rockingham:7779/pls/htmldb/f?p=101
    Any thoughts?

  • Themes for applications in Fvwm / Openbox / Icewm

    Hi,
    I've got a newbie question:
I use several window managers including Xfce IceWM Fvwm & Openbox.
But whe i'm using XFCE I can use different GTK themes so my applications like Sylpheed / Firefox etc... looked the same cool way, but not in Fvwm / Openbox / Icewm. Is there a way to use the same themes in these WM ?
    Thanks,

Yes. I use those as well because then KDE doesn't get to screw with my GTK settings like it wants. (I always hated that about KDE....  )
But Phrak is right, those two little gems are great.

  • Quick paragraph style application transformation ... or reverse engineering a document the hard way?

    Hi everyone,
I'm using Indesign 5.5 for Windows and have inherited a technical document with no styling applied (not even text threads or auto-pagination), but all the fonts are in the correct sizes and colours. So it looks ok in print, but trying to actually do anything with it is a nightmare.  For obvious reasons I WANT to apply paragraph styles to the document so I can generate a new auto-updating TOC, maintain and add to it, and all the other good stuff that means.
My question is this - is my only choice to go through page by page and apply new styles (matching their current appearence) to every different heading and bullet point, or is there a nice easy way (or script) that i can use to whizz through the document for me, neatly applying a new style to each different font variety or element it finds (not altering their appearence) and leaving me with a nice list of styles I can rename (then take all the credit for? ha!) Basically take a document that's already been put together wrong, and make it right? I think this might've been imported into InDesign from something like Quark, hence the state it's in, but I don't have access to anything but this version. Any help you could offer would be great.  Oh, and if (as I suspect) my only option is indeed to apply all the styles manually one line at a time, then feel free to point and laugh, I doubtless deserve it.
    Thanks!
    Phil

If you need to reproduce the existing page layouts, I'd suggest you read up more on what paragraph styles can do, before annihilating whatever layout and flow behaviors have been stuck on the content. For example, if level "X" headings always start at the top of a text frame, or top of a page, or even top of a right page, or top of a left page, a paragraph style property can do this. So you'd want to create and apply a paragraph that does this to those paragraphs before you thread text frames; the top of <whatever> frame paragraph property will keep the paragraphs in place.
It is possible to create paragraph styles with properties that behave crazily when they do what you define for them. For example, you can define a paragraph style that sets the style of the paragraph that's created when you press Enter/Return. You can also use the smartness built into the Next Style property. If a paragraph style, say Head1 is defined to create a new paragraph when you press Enter/Return, it can also apply its next style property to the paragraph follows Head1 in the same text selection. So, if you select a paragraph that's supposed to become Head1 (which defines its next style as BodyAfterHead1) and also select the paragraph that follows it,  and then hold down Ctrl+Click on the Head1 style's name in the Paragraph Styles panel, Apply "Head1" then Next Style appears. If BodyAfterHead1 defines Body as its next style, and more than two consecutive paragraphs are selected, Head1 will be applied to the first paragraph, BodyAfterHead1 will be applied to the second paragraph, and Body will be applied to the third and following paragraphs.
So, you'll be investing in setting up the Next Style property for paragraph styles, and selecting as many consecutive paragraphs as needed for applying a pattern of styles that agrees with your next style definitions. Each time you use this feature, you're collecting benefits from your investment.
If you need to reproduce the look of the layout on some number of pages, you could export to PDF and use a script to efficiently place each page of a multi-page PDF on a "PDF layer" you create, that appears on every document page in the ID document, lock and move the layer below the active document layer, and use it as a placement underlay.
Search Google for terms like "InDesign apply style and next style," "InDesign place multipage pdf script," "InDesign installing and using scripts," "InDesign paragraph style keep options," and "InDesign start paragraph options," without quotes, for informative links to anywhere on the Web, as well as on these Adobe forums. To limit the searches to Adobe forums only, include "forums.adobe" without quotes in the search query.

  • IOS style application opening animation only works with safari?

When I upgraded to Lion I noticed the new animation that occurs when opening an application. One that mimics the way applications open in iOS, where the application zooms into opening? However, even though I have the feature turned ON in system preferences, it only occurs when opening Safari. Mail, iTunes, FaceTime, etc. all open by simply appearing on the screen, while Safari will open using the animation. It's not THAT big of a deal, but the feature IS supposed to work so I was wondering if anyone has had this problem/figured out a way to make it work completely?

Still works fine for me, have you restarted your Apple TV and wifi router?

i use windowshade to close the window and so i have all three or 4 windows available. I dont like this slipping out of the way LEOPARD is doing. Please help!!!!!!

I know there was a problem with 10.5.2 and CS3 doing something "unexpected" and not behaving in a standard manner, which I think has been addressed in the latest updates to OS X and CS3.
Specifically, InDesign documents disappear when opening them..

  • How to properly load applications with OpenBox

Originally, I was using a simply script to start all my applications, then start openbox. For some reason though, this script fails many times and doesn't run certain applications. I was wondering how to make a startup script for openbox, I want to run a few applications when I first start openbox. I am using GDM, and a site told me to use the .xsession file for GDM, however this file is never excuted by GDM, so it's usless to me. Any help is appreciated.

If you have Openbox 3.4, you could create an file called autostart.sh in ~/.config/openbox, for example mine looks like this

    . $GLOBALAUTOSTART
    # Programs to launch at startup
    xrandr -r 60 &
    feh --bg-tile black_mosaic_by_seikq.jpg &
    #xcompmgr -Cc &
    # Programs that will run after Openbox has started
    docker &
    conky &
If the script exist, openbox will start it automaticly, and start openbox-session, instead of openbox, if you're running plain openbox.
Yes, this works, but I end up with the same issue as before, I am using an application for a taskbar, and it always skips over the taskbar and doesn't load it. I've tried multiple task bars, each one, same thing happens.

That seems like way more dependencies than should be missing. I get the same thing when installing from the AUR. Any help?

  • Multiple Views of same Universe with DIFFERENT rendering style, possible?

I am trying to create a CAD-style application that uses several views to display the objects directly from the front, the side and the top using parallel projection and another view that shows the same objects from a freely moveable camera using perspective projection. Everything is working so far, but I would like to display the objects as wire frame in the parallel projection views and fully textured in the perspective view. I have found options to change the rendering of a shape, but that would change it for all views. Is there a way to set different rendering "styles" (i.e. vertex only, wireframe, flat, shaded, textures) for different views of the same universe?

    hi
i've tried to do that some time ago and i had to give up... unfortunately i think java3D can't use various rendering modes for the same universe

  • [Solved] gsimplecal auto focus problem with openbox+tint2

I'm using these apps described above.
Well, after I click the clock in tint2, the gsimplecal shows, but, it won't get focus automatically, which annoyed me a lot.
    I've already set <focusNew>yes</focusNew> in my openbox/rc.xml.
Also, I noticed that even started from terminal, the gsimplecal window won't get the focus.
Is this a bug (or f**king feature) of gsimplecal? I installed it yesterday by yaourt -S gsimplecal-git.
    Thank you.
This problem is solved by adding a per-application setting to openbox, as described in the gsimplecal wiki.
Adding the <focus>yes</focus> is enough, it doesn't need that much.

This seems to be related to the skip_taskbar window hint (set to true by default), as of gsimplecal v0.6 you can override it with the following in your config:
    mainwindow_skip_taskbar = 0
