Universe Builder with MS SQL Server 2005 Server Management Studio - Bridges

Hi all!
I am new to BO and i'm trying to create a universe from a sql database i created with MS SQL Server Management Studio.
I noticed that there isn't any bridge option for sql database.
Am i suppose to do some kind of conversion or is there an option that i left out?
Oh and i'm currently using BusinessObjects XI 3.1 Edge Series Universe Builder.
Thanks
Jazreeel

Hello Jazreeel/ALL,
   Could you please share what you did to build your Universe from MS Sql? I am at that same roadblock now myself. I know I can use Designer to manually connect to the SQL DB and painstakingly set it up table by table, but is there not an easier way, where Universe Builder or Designer can read the full database schema and and build the Universe from there?
   SAP support has told me that the Designers auto features <Detect Joins, Links, etc> should not be used in a production enviroment, that I need to add all the tables <747 of them> manually and then have a Developer one by one create all the Joins, Links, Cardinalities, resolve the loops etc. That is very teadious to do, and makes maintaining the Universe a nightmare when different software versions change our database tables from time to time.
There's got to be an easier way, I just can't find it. Like you, I instantly felt that Builder should have a SQL bridge to be able to read what it needs from the SQL DB and build the Universe. However, that option does not seem to exist.
Appreciate any help!!

  • Setup closed with exit code: 0x84C40013 - Silent Install error - SQL Server 2012 express management studio SP1

    I am trying to create a silent installation package for SQL Server 2012 Express Management Studio SP1. (both x86 & x64)
    Prior to installation I have performed the following :
    1. Turned ON the Windows feature 'Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1' (I had read somewhere on the internet that this is required prior to installation)
    2. Installed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0
    I am using the following command line to perform an unattended install :
    <EXENAME> /Q /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /ACTION=install /FEATURES=Tools
    However, the installation fails abruptly.
    The application installs successfully with the following command line :
    <EXENAME> /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /ACTION=install /FEATURES=Tools
    The error occurs only while attempting to install the application with the /Q switch appended.
    Please help.

    Hello Fanny,
    Thanks for providing the link to the SQL Server 2012 unattended install guide.
    However, I must highlight that I was running the setup.exe with "Run As a Administrator" option and still facing the issue.
    Anyways, I found out the root cause and I must say that it was a rather silly one.
    As I had stated previously, the following command line was causing the issue :
    <EXENAME>
    /Q /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /ACTION=install /FEATURES=Tools
    I simply changed it to the following and it worked....
    <EXENAME>
    /QUIET /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /ACTION=INSTALL /FEATURES=TOOLS
    It so seems that everything must be in CAPITALS for this to work.

  • Required Microsoft Sql Server 2005 Server Roles for JDBC Connection

    Hi!
    I have developed a database in MS SQL Server 2005, to which I would require only bulkadmin server role from an external java application, because I only need to update rows, insert values or use select queries in the database.
    The problem is that, using either the Microsoft JDBC Driver 1.1 or the Java JDBC ODBC Driver and the Windows XP Data Base (ODBC) configurations, I need a user with sysadmin server role inside Sql Server, otherwise JDBC won't connect to the database using the selected user. Even if I leave the sql login with setupadmin or any server role lower than sysadmin, the connection is refused.
    Is there no way to connect using JDBC to MS Sql Server 2005 other than granting the connected user sysadmin rights? My code looks as follows:
    String driver = "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver";
    String url = "jdbc:sqlserver://FIREBLADE\\SQLEXPRESS";
    String user = "username";
    String password = "password$$";
    Connection conn;
    Class.forName(driver);
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url,user,password);
    if (conn != null)
    System.out.println("\nSQL Server Connection established ...\n");
    I have heard that Java JDBC connections to Microsoft require high-level access, and if that's the case I would rather migrate my database to MySql.
    Any informed answer is more than welcome. Thanks for reading my post!

    Well i personally prefer usage of open source MS SQL SERVER 2k jdbc driver called jtds instead of the driver provided by MS themselves(which is proproteriry) as i had similar problem which i personally encountered when i was using it.
    go through the below link for further info.

  • How to add a new server (as shown with "server name" in management studio) and how to delete the old one?

    I am using SQL Express 2008 R2. I have two servers ".\robbysqlexpress" and ".\sqlexpress". The ".\sqlexpress" server is not working. It gives error whenever I try to connect:
    "Cannot connect to (local)\SQLEXPRESS.
    A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.
    (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)"
    So I want to delete this server and create a server with the same name again. So could you tell me how to do that?
    : Robby

    Hi Robby,
    Can you check that instance of server exists. deleting and recreating will not help you.
    It is really a generic error(and hope your sql server instance exits -> http://community.shavlik.com/docs/DOC-23089).
    please follow this blog post to resolve it -> http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2009/05/21/sql-server-fix-error-provider-named-pipes-provider-error-40-could-not-open-a-connection-to-sql-server-microsoft-sql-server-error/
    Unfortunately, it does not appear to be possible (or at least practical) to only remove certain items.
    However, if you want, you can reset the configuration and start from scratch.
    Make sure Management Studio is closed, then delete or rename this file:
    %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Shell\SqlStudio.bin

    Here's the error message: [Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC

    I have successfully connected to the db through coldfusion

    etc... When I fire up my website, I get that error. I can't figure
    out how to solve this and I'm desperate at this point.
    Thanks for any help.

    Lol - I figured it out 5 minutes after I posted this (3 hours
    after this started). I had the driver pointing to the master
    database instead of the 'real' db beneath it. I had changed the
    settings previously, but they didn't take hold until I rebooted the
    server.
    ... will this MS nightmare never end? This is why I went to

  • How to cofigure Oracle Warehouse Builder with MS SQL Server to store metadata information?

    I am getting error stating that 'API5022: cannot connect to the specified account. Verify connection information.',  when i try to configure MS SQL Server to repository assistance.
    Thanks in advance.

    Juergen,
    The SQL Server stored procedure implementation is somewhat different from the Oracle one. As you might have noted in Oracle all results (including ResultSets) can only be returned as output parameters from the stored procedure. With SQL Server you can just do a SELECT inside the procedure and you will see a ResultSet in Java (somewhat of an asynchronous call). There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches.
    One of the SQL Server "disadvantages" is the problem you are experiencing: error messages are also generated as they occur and sent to the client (JDBC driver), which transforms them into SQLExceptions. Another SQL Server disadvantage is the fact that output parameters are only available after the driver has parsed and cached or discarded all results.
    With Oracle, on the other hand, you can only obtain ResultSets from stored procedures through cursors. This has two disadvantages: first there's an overhead on the server side to maintain the cursor snd seconf you need non-standard JDBC code to obtain the ResultSet.
    So the short answer to your question would be that there isn't (as far as I know) any way to avoid the SQLException. However, you can skip it and either get the linked SQLExceptions or call getMoreResults() until you get your custom error message.
    Alin.

    Hi,
    Quick question. Have you configured SQL Server for XA? This is sometimes my problem installing Oracle BPM Enterprise running on WebLogic for SQL Server.
    Specifically, here are the steps I follow to configure XA. I've heard you can also follow the instructions included with WebLogic Server (http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs92/jdbc_drivers/mssqlserver.html#wp1075232). However the short instructions provided below also describes how to do this:
    1) Copy <WebLogic Home>\weblogic\server\lib\sqljdbc.dll to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Binn
    2) Copy <WebLogic Home>\weblogic\server\lib\instjdbc.sql to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Binn
    3) Also copy the same files to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn
    4) Execute "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\isql.exe" -Usa -Ppassword -Slocalhost -i"c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Binn\instjdbc.sql"
    5) Using regedit, set the property HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSDTC\Security\XaTransactions to 1 (instead of 0)
    6) In addition, you may also need to do following step (if not configured already – check whether it is already done before making these changes.
    Create a registry named-value:
    a. Use Registry Editor and navigate to registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSDTC\XADLL
    b. Create a new registry named-value:
    * Name is the file name of the XA DLL (in the format dllname.dll)
    * Type is String (REG_SZ)
    * Value is the full path name (including the file name) of the DLL file
    Name: sqljdbc.dll
    Type: String (REG_SZ)
    Value: c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\Binn\sqljdbc.dll
    c. Note: You must create an entry for each XA DLL file that you plan to use. Also, if you are configuring MS DTC on a cluster, you must create these registry entries on each node in the cluster.
    7) Using the SQL Server Service Manager (available from the Start menu), restart SQL Server and the Distributed Transaction Coordinator
    Hope this helps,
    Dan

    Please help!
    Samnang.

    Hi SSamnang,
    According to your description, you come across the error that the specific account already exists. Please help to share the complete error log in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20150102_161500\SSCRuntime_Cpu32_1.log. You could
    use google drive to upload the error log following the steps in the article:
    https://support.google.com/drive/answer/2424368?hl=en
    From the exception help link, we notice that, the issue could be due to that an attempt fails to install SQL Server Native Client on a computer where SQL Server Native Client is already installed.
    I recommend you to check if there is already an existing SQL Server Native Client on your computer. If there is an existing one, you could uninstall it and install SQL Server again.

  • Working with Custom SQL Using Descriptor Query Manager Queries

    Hi All,
    I am Working on Descriptor Query Manager Queries
    Configuring Custom SQL Using Java and Workbench
    Using Java I wrote a static method as in the code given below.
    public static void insertEmployee(ClassDescriptor descriptor){
    descriptor.getQueryManager().setInsertSQLString(
    "insert into EMPLOYEE (EMP_ID, EMP_NAME, EMP_JOB, SAL, DEPTNO) values (#EMP_ID, #EMP_NAME, #EMP_JOB, #SAL, #DEPTNO)"
    I wrote a insert SQL Query in the custom SQL tab of the Toplink workbench .
    Using java and Using Toplink Workbench I had a problem how to call this insert query in the sessionEJBBean .
    Can any one suggest me in this regard.
    Thanks in advance
    regards,
    Satish

    What is the problem you are experiencing?
    Normally you can just execute the query by calling
    'executeQuery(queryName, domainclass) on the session.
    See also
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/
    doc/10131/main/_html/qrybas003.htm#BCFIBGGJ
    Just out of curiosity: why do you need a custom SQL
    to insert something? Can't you use persist()?
    regards,
    LonnekeOr even UnitOfWork ? Why go down the route of using custom inserts to insert objects unless you have some business logic that Toplink's UnitOfWork API cannot provide ?

    Hi i recently installed SQL Server 2008 R2 management studio. When I try to login i select 'Database engine' as the server type, I'm not sure what server name I'm
    supposed to be using but I tried .\SQLEXPRESS and authentication is 'SQL server Authentication'. But as for login and password I don't have one. During the installation I was not prompted to provide a login/password. As with the 2005 server installation I
    could by selecting 'mixed'. So how do i login for the first time on SQL server 2008 if i dont know/have my login/password?

  • SQL Server 2012 Management Studio:Importing XML file to new Table of new Database-XML parsing: unexpected end of input???

    Hi all,
    In the Notepad, I created an xml file (ZenQroducts.xml) :
    <Qroducts>
    <Qroduct>
    <SKU>1</SKU>
    <Desc>Book</Desc>
    </Qroduct>
    <Qroduct>
    <SKU>2</SKU>
    <Desc>DVD</Desc>
    </Qroduct>
    <Qroduct>
    <SKU>3</SKU>
    <Desc>Video</Desc>
    </Qroduct>
    In my SQL Server 2012 Management Studio, I executed the following code:
    --to create a new object Qroducts in a new database OPENXMLtesting
    CREATE DATABASE OPENXMLtesting
    GO
    CREATE TABLE Qroducts(
    sku INT Primary KEY,
    qroduct_desc VARCHAR(30));
    INSERT INTO Qroducts (sku, qroduct_desc)
    SELECT X.qroduct.query('SKU').value('.', 'INT'),
    X.qroduct.query('Desc').value('.', 'VARCHAR(30)')
    FROM (
    SELECT CAST(x AS XML)
    FROM OPENROWSET(
    BULK 'H:\ZenQroducts.xml',
    SINGLE_BLOB) AS T(x)
    ) AS T(x)
    CROSS APPLY x.nodes('Qroducts/Qroduct') AS X(qroduct);
    SELECT sku, qroduct_desc
    FROM Qroducts;
    I got the following message:
    Msg 9400, Level 16, State 1, Line 6
    XML parsing: line 13, character 12, unexpected end of input
    I have no ideas why I got this "XML parsing:line 13, character12, unexpected end of input" message. Please kindly help, advise me on where I made mistake and how I can resolve this problem, and respond in this Forum.
    Thanks in advance,
    Scott Chang

    Hi Manish, Thanks for your response.
    Yes, it is a duplicate with Qroducts/Qroduct instead of Products/Product. I did it, because I don't know how to remove the existing "Products" database.
    Again, I got the existing "Qroducts" database in this second trial!!??  I am comletely lost in doing "Importing XML file to SQL Table" now!!  I think that I have not touched T-SQL and XML programming, since 2008. I
    did not catch the new features of T-SQL 2008, XML, SQL/XML, XQuery, etc. for long time. Recently, I did not know what DECLARE, @x, SET,...were, and dived into the SQL/XML and XQuery programming. I knew the SQL Basics (SELECT, FROM, WHERE,..), creating
    the names of databases and tables in SQL Server 2008/2012 Management Studio (Express) before. This morning, I found an old T-SQL 2008 Prgrammer's Guide that has the new features of SQL Server 2008 for T-SQL, XML, XQuery, etc. I just starting reading
    it to know what DECLARE, @x, SET,... are. But, I still don't know where the existing databases "Products" and "Qroducts" (created by me) are - they are not in the Databases of SQL Server 2012 Management Studio I am using!!??  Could
    you please kindly point out where the "Products" and "Qroducts" databases are?
    Prashanth responded to my posted question too and he asked to to try his code: DECLARE @xml XML, SELECT @xml =' <Qroducts>.....SELECT product.value.....FROM @XML.nodes.....AS.... I just learned that his code is doing the thing we
    want to do and print the results below the SQL Query. This is not what I need in doing my SQL/XML programming. I am reading/studying the new (2008) features of T-SQL, XQuery 1.0: An XML Query Language (Second Edition), and Microsoft XQuery Language Reference
    (SQL Server 2012 Books Online) closely now. I hope that I can resume the T-SQL, XML Query, SQL/XML, XQuery in my SQL Server 2012 Management Studio soon.
    Please tell me  where the existing databases "Products" and "Qroducts" I created in my previous trials in my SQL Server 2012 Management Studio.  This is what I need to know and to delete them, before I do this kind of "Importing
    XML file to Table of SQL Server 2012 Management Studio"  programming again.
    Please kindly help, advise and respond again.
    Many Thanks,
    Scott Chang
