UNIX calls from a Windows platform thru JSP

We have a Tomcat Webserver that runs off a Win2000 server. The primary interface is a JSP and the it fetches data out of an Oracle DB (hosted on Unix) and displays the same. Is there any way that I could also make calls to the Unix server to show some stats ... can JSP do that and if so how ?
TIA for the pointers
-Ben

The java is running on the windows 2000 machine.
You can't make any direct system calls to the unix operating system from there.
What sort of stats would you want to see?
The only way I could see it working is
1 - Java process on Win2000 calls another process on the Unix server (via RMI) to send it back the information that it wants.
Its something I would put in a bean/servlet rather than a JSP.

How to trap client browser window closing thru JSP or servlets?
    Gunjan

    Hi
Though some JavaScripts may provide you with solutions , yet there is no reliable way to detect the closing of the browser by the servlet. One way to achieve detection of user quitting a session is setting session timeouts ion the server side. This can be done either through the web.xml file or programatically by setting the session.setMaxInactiveInterval().

  • RFC call from a Windows Service

    Hi All,
I have created a simple windows service which is making an RFC call to R/3 system. This is not working. Whereas the same piece of code written in a windows application projects(exe) works properly. Does anyone had similer issues working with Windows services ? Is it a known issue of RFC calls from windows service ???
    Thanks & Regards
    Ganesh Datta

    Hi Juergen,
After I put the debug statements I figured out that connection to R/3 system is unsuccessful.
I am using the SAP .Net Connector 2.0. I wrote a windows service which is manually started. Withing my service I am using Single sign on to connect .This is what was causing the problem. If I disable Single sign on and supply userID and password then connection is successful and also subsequent RFC calls.
I guess within windows service Single sign on does not work.
    Thanks for your reply

  • Re: Scam Call from Microsoft Windows - or was it?

In reference to the comment made about the PC World calls.  There are real calls conducted by PC World to assist their Knowhow customers.  It is a sad world where we chalk all help from our solution providers up to being some sort of a scam.
There are legitimate support calls being done by the Knowhow team to assist customers in using the services they purchased.
If for whatever reason you question the validity of these calls you can always call the phone number provided in the email sent to you by [email protected] and then at least you know you speaking the genuine Knowhow support.

Well to be honest, I have found the Knowhow team to be a bunch of scammers as well. My friend took a laptop that wouldn't charge to them and they said it was a faulty solder point on the motherboard and quoted £200 to replace the motherboard. In fact it was a broken power supply, £8 from Amazon. Another time they said a motherboard had failed and that's why it wouldn't boot. It was actually a duff battery, once I removed it booted fine. Then bought a new battery.

  • Problem executing C++ binary on Unix, calling from PC

    Hi-
So, I get the following error:
    java.io.IOException: /nb2/dailyrainapp/gridtobindaily: cannot execute
    at java.lang.UNIXProcess.forkAndExec(Native Method)
    at ...
gridtobindaily is the compiled C++ code. The RMI is all working well. For testing, I ran a little nothing script which copied a file from one directory to another. Worked fine. I don't thik it has to do with the application calling it from the PC.
    In my implementation of the interface (one method, 'execute'), I simply do Runtime.getRuntime().exec("/nb2/dailyrainapp/gridtobindaily");
Like I said, it worked for a simple script, but not for compiled C++ code.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    MH

    Hey-
I think I have it. The C++ code actually looks up a config file for input parameters, and these include other files. All the paths need to be absolute. I was able to redirect the messages from the C++ code, and discovered that it wasn't finding all the resources I was providing. Thaks for your input, though, it still seems like it doesn't execute consistently. I am going to look up this bug now.
    MH
You may have seen this but there is an in progress bug
    listed
    here:
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/
    350590.ht
    ml
At the bottom, there are a couple of painful
    workarounds listed.
Another idea worth trying would be that instead of
executing he command try executing a shell with the
    command in it.

  • Remote execution of unix shell from Windows ?

    Hello,
I have a question related to distributed computing.
I want to invoke Bash Script in a remote unix machine from my Windows 2000 computer. I hope in DOS environment of my Windows computer, I can run like this:
    C:\StartUnix.bat
Then the DOS batch file will automatically connect to a remote computer running Unix and invoke one bash script, for example, "test.sh" to do the job in the unix environment. In the test.sh file, for example, I just want to show "Hello World!". (echo "Hello World !").
In Windows computer, if I use telnet to the unix machine, I have to enter username, password, and run the shell script manually. Is there a way to do it automatically?
How can I do that? RMI ? IDL? or something else? Can someone explain in details?
    Thank you very much!
    David

You could try to use OutputStream object for the process object and write to it after opening the telnet session. This way your output will be to the telnet window and you could pass your telnet login info to it.
I have seen code that does similar thing. Check in the forum with runtime.exec()

  • TS2706 I cannot connect to my airport (time capsule) from a Windows PC

Any information on how to connect to an aiport extreme (really the time capsule) from a Windows platform. Have no problem from our Mac's but cannot connect from a windows based platform.  I haven't been able to find any recent posts to help with this problem.

First off, Archon23, what you want to achieve is possible.  I have access to both my Time Capsule (TC) and the USB drive connected to it, from a Win. 7 and Win. XP machine.
Here is what I see from the Windows side of things:
From My Computer - TC USB Drive (Y)
From Windows HomeNet - Time Capsule:
Now getting there is the trick.
One caveat before proceeding:  I am not well versed in Windows Networks, Windows Sharing and Firewall settings so some of the following may not be elegant, may not be absolutely required, and may not be the best way of getting there.  But it is what I did to see both the TC drive and it's attached USB  drive on the Windows side of my network..
1.) First, I added Airport Utility to the Inbound rules of Win 7 Firewall
While poking around my Network Sharing and Firewall settings trying to figure this out, I got a Pop-up recommending I do that.  AND I did that. Oh, and while you are at it, make sure you have a Home network established.
2.) Next, on a hunch, I installed a USB Wi-Fi Adapter (under $20) to my Win PC, enabled that Wi-Fi connection and disabled my Ethernet connection.  I was getting no where on this matter with my Ethernet connection to a DSL Gateway.  But with a Wi-Fi connection to my AirPort Express Base Station, I made progress.
3.) Finally, while poking around my Network Sharing Center some more, one by one I started the various network device Setup Wizards in there, and Trouble Shooters, to find the elusive TC/USB devices in question...AND voila, it worked.   And it's stable, been this way for going on two weeks now.
    Good luck.

  • Objects to be transported from Windows platform to Unix platform

    Hi experts
Our current development is on windows platform. and the production server will be on HP Unix platform.
I just wanted to know that is it possible to transport the webdynpro application and the portal contents.
Also wanted to know what all components need modification while transport.
Guide me the steps for the move.
    regards
    vija

Usually you shouldn´t have any issues transporting. Java bytecode is platform independent.
What CAN be an issue is the different endianess if you program yourself and assume, that the byte order is little endian - but if you stay on the webdynpro level you shouldn´t have any problems.

  • How to execute unix command from the Java program running on Windows

    Hello,
    I need to
    1. Execute a unix shell script from a Java program running on the Windows.
    2. I also need to capture the output of this shell script in my program.
Please suggest me how to achieve this.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi...
    Something is missing here
If you want to execute a shell script in windows that not posible unless you find or develop a unix shell script parser for windows.
But if you are trying the execute a unix shell script on a remote unix computer from your java program running on a windows platform you can do that by logging on to the UNIX terminal which is running on port 23 I think.
You can test this using telnet tool on windows
    just type on command prompt
telnet <ip of the unix pc> <port number this case 23>
you should get the unix terminal. If that works you can do the same through java or you can directly conect to port 23 of that pc using sockets that way your program will be platform independant

  • Would *.vi files run on a Windows platform if they were developed on a Unix platform?

I have been working on a Linux machine with Labview 6.1, and would like to know if the *.vi files would run on a Windows platform running Labview.

Absolutely. I don't recall that there are any Platform dependent calls in LabVIEW for Linux. Give it a shot, and please post here if you have any problems.
Congratulations for choosing Linux, and LabVIEW for Linux.
I have always been a proponent of platform independent programming, and of Linux/Unix (okay, ANYTHING but Windows...evil, pure evil...). If you develop in Linux, and run in Windows, you are in fact developing a platform independent program (at least, if there are NO platform dependent calls in your program...)
Good luck, and keep us posted.
