Unknown Group - Causes Finder Crash - How do I change group?

Many directories and files on my system after installing Leopard have an "Unknown" group and when I open a "Get Info" window on them and click the "Add" button the beachball appears and Finder crashes.
MacFixit stated "This problem appears to be due to a bad group setting. You can alleviate the issue by putting afflicted users back into the "Staff" group (GID 20) via the following Terminal command:
sudo dscl . append /Groups/staff GroupMembership username
(where "username" is replaced by the afflicted user's name)."
However, this did not solve my problem. Said files and directories still have "uknown" groups and Finder still crashes when I click the "Add" button in the Get Info window.
How to fix?

No, now it has reverted to the behaviour of 10.2 and before. All normal user accounts were made members of the "staff" group by default. admin users were also made members of the "admin" group, plus a couple of others. There are a lot more in Leopard. Trust me, you will have far fewer problems if you make your primary group 20. Your 'id' output should ideally look like

Not able to move iTunes library to Mac OS 10.5.2 - causes Finder crashes

I have struggled most of the day trying to do what in the past has always been very simple - move iTunes library to a new computer/OS. Old eMac housed the library, xml and album art files on the main hard drive. My music library (all the song files) was stored on an external drive. New Mac Pro, along with the same external drive with all the songs, will not accept the transported iTunes folder without crashing the Finder.
I solved the Finder crashing problem by "File/Import..." the xml file from my eMac library. However, using that approach causes me to lose a bunch of library data, including date created, last skipped, and skip count. There may be other parameters I am missing. Lastly, when going the import path - the new Mac Pro can't locate 20 of the songs.
I don't know why OS 10.5.2 won't accept the previous OS (10.3.9) iTunes library files without crashing the finder, but it doesn't. Are there any other work-arounds that will allow me to port the actual iTunes library file containing ALL metadata? I am starting to regret getting this new system - nothing but trouble in upgrading.

First, there is nothing you can do unless you can upgrade the computer to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 which is the minimum version compatible with your iPhone and the current version of iTunes. Furthermore, you will need a compatible version of iPhoto to use. That version should be available for installation using the original installation discs that came with your computer.

Option-close-all-windows causes Finder crash in 10.7.x

Ever since I installed Lion last year on another iMac, and now on my current iMac, whenever I hold down option and click the red close button on a Finder window to close all open windows, the Finder crashes. It doesn't happen every single time, but enough to really make me angry.
Anyone have a solution for this?

Absolutely it's a Finder bug. It's been going on since I installed Lion the day it was released last year. My current machine, as with any Mac I've ever owned, is always kept up-to-date and I'm not running any Finder enhancers.
What I'd love is if you and other people interested in this thread would try it out for yourself and see what happens. Just have a few Finder windows open and option left-click on the red close button on any window. It doesn't happen all the time. In fact, it might only happen the first time after a restart or initial boot. I'm not sure.
It won't bring your machine to a halt for more than a few seconds and the Finder automatically restarts.

Recent Security Update 2014-002 Causing Finder Crash - QuartzComposer Plugin

Hello,
Recently updated Mavericks with the Security Update 2014-002 and now getting Finder crashes on login. Seems to relate to the QuartzComposer plugin.
No task bar at the top of the screen, just desktop wallpaper and looping Finder crash that can't be resolved. I have the crash log, but not posted one before. Is it safe to post the whole thing online?
Pressing the power button and forcing a restart often fixes the problem but it happening relatively frequently now on each startup and I would like to resolve this. Can't find much on the forums at the moment.

When I click on the "import all" button when downloading my photos I get a message that states that the format is unrecognizable. What caused this and how do I change it so I can import my photos?

I am trying to download photos from my digital camera. I have done this many times before with this same camera; however this time when I click the "import all" button I get a message that states that the format is unrecognizable. It doesn't specify what the format is.
What is causing this and how do I correct it? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Make a temporary, backup copy of the library and try the following:
launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
select the options identified in the screenshot.
Click to view full size
Launch iPhoto and try importing again.

How did you contact iTunes support, and you've checked your spam as well as your Inbox ?
If you have a rescue email address set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.

If you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPad.

External Firewire HDD causing finder crash

I just bought an external Seagate FreeAgent Desk 1TB HDD. The thing is very finicky about how you plug it in and start it up, do the wrong sequence and it won't ever show up on the desktop.
When I have it plugged in via FW800 The thing causes my finder to become non responsive. When I try to relaunch it, it never comes back online. The only way out of it is a hard shutdown. The drive will work, but only for a brief time and then it will hang causing a never ending spinning beachball fail. I've been reading up on a lot of similar issues ever since upgrading to 10.5.7. I've downloaded Seagate's diagnostic utility, but its only feature is a "test" which never gets going while I'm hooked up via firewire.
As we speak I've swapped the firewire800 for the USB2 connection and all seems to be going well. What's the deal? Is this firmware hang affecting only firewire? Should I stick with the USB until this gets resolved? Is Firewire THAT much faster than USB that I'll be stuck in the file transfer dark ages until this gets fixed?

no no no, usb is plenty fast enough for most poeple, i would not even worry about it, if you can get it working good on usb, go with it. I hate seagates, but thats me, the only reason you will need really fast firewire is for if you do a lot of movie/music editing or changing, and even then the only REALLY long backup will be the first one only, the rest will probably be rlatively quite short.

How can I change the color in this "pieces"

Hello guys, I'm new in the forum and I'm searching for help.
I'm using a free template that I downloaded from
the internet but I'm having a small problem.
When I put the logo that I want use in the template, the color is not the original one,
after some minutes trying to discover how I could change it to the original version of the logo, I found an option on "fill" with a color that I could change..
the problem is that when I change the color, all the logo changes in the same time, so I created 2 logos.. one of then only with the dark color and the other with the red color
so with this method I could change both colors on this "fill" option and all would be okai.
the problem is that both of the logos are changing in the same time.
I need to change the X to RED and the Moto to Black
Another problem that I have is : the little pieces of the logo that come all togheter, they are all black.. and i need to change it to the right color.
cause the text are in one color and the pieces are all black.

yes, there's a database table named Config_Message_Log. It contains all the information that might be useful in such cases: the date and time, the user's login name and what information (more precisely: which database table) has been changed. It must be noted, however, that the "what has been changed" is not stored in a human readable form, you need to extract it using the Log viewer functionality of icmdba tool (which is a friendly GUI alternative/wrapper to the dumpcfg command line tool).
Issue the icmdba command on the command line of your AW machine. Expand Servers > [the server where a Logger resides]. Click [instancename]_sideA (or [instancename]_sideB). From the menu bar, select View > Log. A new window appears. Set the from and to dates to a desired value, then click View. It might take some time while a new window appears, containing the list of changes.

This means on 1st November 2011 at 7:49 somebody with the IPCC\administrator login on the AWSA machine removed three agents (with SkillTargetID 5138, 5385 and 5066) from the Agent Team with AgentTeamID 5000.
Script changes are not so easy to explain, however, since each save generates a new version of a script, you'll see a new record in the t_Script table. Feel free to post the output here, I might be able to help you or at least show you the right direction.
It must be noted, however, that the Config_Message_Log table can be truncated (erased) with the icmdba tool too. So if the customer knows this, they might just perform an unauthorized change and then destroy all traces, unfortunately.

P.S.: you can also use the dumpcfg tool from the command line, it's faster - just make sure you read the instructions (do dumpcfg /?) and redirect the output to a text file.

How i can change system ECC to ERP in Solman

I have configured the service desk in Solman. We have ECC 6 system in the landscape.
but i have add these system as SAP ECC system in Solman, and now when i am trying to upgrade these system for EHP4 its showing me the erro that system has to be defined as ERP system
Please do let me know how can change these systems from ECC to ERP (node) in Solman. As I can checked in the system i am ble to delete and add these system again because these are used in some projects as well as in logical component.
Is there any ways to change the system from ECC to ERP ?? and what will be the impact when i change it.

Hi,
If you are upgrading your ECC system to EHP4. Then in order to download packages from MOPZ you have to register your system as ERP 6.0 in SMSY transaction in solution manager.
Check this link https://websmp204.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700000293582009E.PDF and go to page 20. There you will find step how you can change it and It will not have any impact.

How do i change the name that was given to the folder located in /users

when i bought this imac, the shopkeeper initialized it and entered my first name incorrectly it now appears mispelled as the title to the main folder located in /Users. when i open the window to access the info relative to this folder, the section 'Name & Extension' appears grayed out and i cannot change the mispelled name. anyone can help me find out how do i change this?

There are ways of changing the home folder name but I would strongly advise against it.
Best way forward is to start over. You can create a new user with proper spelling of your name and make sure you assign administrator rights.
You can do it in System Preferences / Users
This is obviously only if you are fine with starting a new user profile and customising it.
Let me know if you need detailed information step-by-step.

Hi Guys.
It is a silly issue, but when I got my Imac back from repair, the service guys put the operating system back and they called the administrator "imac".
I tried to change it with no success.
So now my user (Administrator) is called Imac. and this is the name I can read next to the little house icon in finder.
How can I change it?

How can I change the database & schema used by an Application?

Hi community,
I am very new on Essbase and I need help to find out how can I change the database connection (and schema) used by the database of an Application. The figure is that I need to point this database to a QA environment (currently it points to DEV).
If I do a right click over the properties of the database, I can see the following tabs: [ General ][ Dimensions ][ Statistics ][ Modifications ][ Compression ]. However, there is no option to change the database connection.
Is there a way to do this?

Are you trying to change a database connection of Planning application?
Essbase application do not have a relational connection.
