UNreadable text and missing images in sync'd pdf documents in iBooks

Hi,
i was quite excited when i heard that iBooks 1.1 was going to be able to open pdf documents, so following an update to 1.1, i loaded up a number of pdfs onto the iPad, the majority worked perfectly, however i noticed that a couple, (when opened), all the embedded images were missing and in another document the text was unreadable, sort of looked like the text was overlapping with each other.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

All kinds of things can go wrong when reading pdfs, which can be made in variety of different ways. If the problem pdfs display fine in OS X Preview and Adobe Reader, best to let Apple know about need to fix iBooks reader via

Text and solid images print as halftones

I have a Xerox phaser 3250 with PCL6 emulation. Recently, whenever I create a document in Quark and print it, my text and solid images print as halftones as opposed to solid blacks. When I try to modify the PPD or any other device option in the print window, the option buttons are dimmed. Is this an issue with my printer or my OS or my software ? thanks

DO NOT USE PREVIEW TO FILL OUT PDF FORMS, IT WILL DESTROY PDF FILES. Sorry, but I had to shout here to prevent damage to your PDF files.
Here is one of the symptoms when you fill out a PDF form with Preview: If you save it and return it to the author, they will not be able to see the text that you've added to form fields - unless they click on a field, which will reveal the contents of just that field. You can recover from this problem, but Preview will also remove other field types, and will actually rewrite your complete PDF while ignoring what it does not understand. Acrobat X and XI will not print many pdf documents. When I click Print, the document fades and I get a dialog box that says "Adobe Acrobat has Stopped Working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I was experiencing this with Acrobat X so I upgraded to XI, but the problem is exactly the same. I am using Windows 7 Professional operating system.

Launching is just the normal word in Apple's word for "run an app". You can launch an app from the Applications folder, or in recent versions of Mac OS using the LaunchPad (rocket icon). You can't assume all your apps appear on the dock (bottom strip), it's only the ones Apple put there or you added.

Photoshop has to have full administrator rights to have read/write access.
This means you need to run Photoshop CS5.1 in an Administrator account and set it up to "Run as Administrator."
1. Close Photoshop if it's open.
2. Right click on your Photoshop CS5.1 launch icon then select "Run as Administrator" from the context menu. (You will have to enter Admin Password if UAC is enabled to change this setting.)
3. Launch Photoshop CS5.
4. See if you create and save a document.
Even if you are in an Administrator account you have to do this as Vista's Admin account isn't really the Super Admin as it is in XP so you have to elevate the rights by selecting "Run as Administrator". This setting is sticky so you should only have to do this once. I am not sure why CS3 is suddenly acting as if it does't have Admin rights unless you are running it in a new account that isn't an administrator or maybe uninstalled (cleanScript?) then reinstalled.
If can't create or save a document, check that the account that Photoshop is in is an Administrator account.
To check if you are in an Administrator account...
1. Type user account in your Vista or Windows7 start search bar. (Start search bar is at the bottom of the panel that opens when you click the start Windows start globe located on the far left hand side of your Windows task bar.)
2. Click on "User Accounts" which should show up at the top of the list. This will open the dialog to User Accounts where you can "Change Your Account Type". If UAC (User Account Control) is turned on, you will need to enter the Admin password to change this setting.

Text and some images together in a scrolling effect

Hi.
All the tutorials I find about scrolling effects are just with simple text. And all the tutorials about images don't say anything about applying it together with text.
I have a rather simple scrolling credits at the end of my video and wanted to have three or four logos at the end. (I'd do anything for the sponsors hehe).
The only way I could find to do this is to have two different scrolling effects to each individual image and another one for the text and move them back and forth until they fit. Even harder is to make them scroll at the same speed. Right now I've got one logo at the right speed, making them all do that will take hours.
Does anyone know an easier way? How can I add the images into the text?

Do you have Photoshop?
Start with one of the video presets in PS that has the same pixel dimesions as your video footage.
Make sure it is transparent.
Add a New Layer and color it black with Shift F5 - this is only temporary to help you see the text while you compose it.
Add a new text layer. Type your titles. When you need more space extend the lower part of the PS canvas: Image > Canvas Size. Repeat this as often as you need.
Paste your logos.
When you are done, go to the black layer and delete it.
Go to Layers > Merge Visible.
Save as a TIFF with the Preserve Transparency option checked on.
Import into FCP (or FCE), make it as long as you need and superimpose on your background.
Double click to place in the Viewer and set the scale to 100%.
Use the position contols to move your titles up the screen. Render.

How can I fix blank spots and missing images with firefox

I type in pch.com for instance and the image doesn't appear and when I hit begin It shows me spaces for names address etc. but there is no submit box. I can click where it should be and it works. On yahoo themes, All the squares are white. If I point to it, It says the color but doesn't show it.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their colors and that you haven't enabled High Contrast in the Accessibility settings.

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.
*Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
*Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically
*Check the exceptions in "Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions"
*Check the "Tools > Page Info > Media" tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images with the cursor Down key).
If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.<br />
Make sure that you do not block third-party images, the permissions.default.images pref should be 1.

Since applying Feb 2013 Sharepoint 2010 CUs - Critical event log entries for Blob cache and missing images

Since applying the February 2013 SharePoint 2010 updates, we are getting lots of entries in our event logs along the following:
Content Management Publishing Cache
5538 Critical
An error occurred in the blob cache. The exception message was 'The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)’
In pretty much all of these cases the image/ file in question that is reported in the ULS logs as missing is not actually in the collaboration site, master page / html etc so the fix needs to go back to the site owner to make the correction to avoid
the 404 (if they make it!). This has only started happening, I believe since feb 2013 sp2010 cumulative updates updates
I didn’t see this mentioned as a change / in the Fix list of the February updates. i.e. it flags up a critical error in our event logs. So with a lot of sites and a lot of missing images your event log can quickly fill up.
Obviously you can suppress them in the monitoring -> web content management ->publishing cache = none & none which is not ideal.
So my question is... are others seeing this and was a change made by Microsoft to flag a 404 missing image / file up a critical error in event log when blob cache is enabled?
If i log this with MS they will just say, you need to fix it up the missing files in the site but would be nice to know this had changed prior! I also deleted and recreated the blob cache and this made no diffference

I'm facing the same error on our SharePoint 2013 farm. We are on Aug 2013 CU and if the Dec CU (which is supposed to be the latest) doesn't solve it then what else could be done.
Some users started getting the message "Server is busy now try again later" with a corelation id. I looked up ULS with that corelation id and found these two errors in addition to hundreds of "Micro Trace Tags (none)" and "forced
due to logging gap":
"GetFileFromUrl: FileNotFoundException when attempting get file Url /favicon.ico The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)"
"Error in blob cache. System.IO.FileNotFoundException: The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)"
"Unable to cache URL /FAVICON.ICO. File was not found"
Looks like this is a bug and MS hasn't fixed it in Dec CU..

Multiple catalogues and missing images

I have several overlapping catalogues in my elements 10. The largest is coordinated with the online backup (which is due to be terminated). It has over 400 missing images that cannot be reconnected via the online backup. Some of the wayward images may be in one of the other catalogues or a download to the external hard drive from the online backup (done last year).
1. How can I merge the several catalogues, and should I?
2. How do I serch the the file in the external hard drive? I.e., how do I designate this file in the "browse" dialogue box for where to reconnect? I can navigate to it, but then what?

Images are never stored in the catalog.

There is no tool available to merge catalogs. The best you can do is to write the metadata to the files (File->Write Tags...) in each catalog, and then import all photos into a new catalog. In this process, you will lose albums and version sets and stacks and a few other things that I can't remember at this time. So, should you do this? If the drawbacks of the merge process don't make you say "Stop", then YES you should do this. I see no benefit, and huge amounts of confusion, caused by multiple catalogs, made even worse by the fact that they are overlapping.

In PSE, you can find the name of the file, and this is the name you would use to search your hard disks using your operating system. Exactly how you do a search depends on your operating system, which you haven't mentioned.
