Unreliable Connection

I've owned my Airport Express for over two years now, and have never had any problems with it before. I just moved into a new place, and recently the connection has been very unreliable. About every half-hour or so, all the computers will lose their connection with the network, and I have to wait a few minutes and then reconnect. The green light remains on throughout these periods of dropped connections.
Are there any suggestions as to how to fix this? (Perhaps setting it to a single channel instead of leaving it automatic?) I'm guessing that it could be interference from other local Wi-Fi networks, but I'm pretty inexperienced with troubleshooting this particular problem. Any ideas?

My first guess would also be that your wireless network is suffering from radio interference from either neighboring wireless networks, 2.4GHz portable phones, or whatever.
Experiment with changing the channel your Airport Express transmits on, to see if you can find a channel that remains clear more often than not. Do this with the Airport Utility -> Manual Setup -> Airport button -> Wireless tab.

This is my third Cisco Linksys N model routers, they all have the same problem. They do not provide continuous internet service. After about few hours, they stop transmitting and you will have to go and unplug the power and plug before it will start functioning again. I thought by now Cisco would have able to rectify the problem since it have been with their N model for over 4 -5 years.
What's great about it: Guest User option
What's not so great: no continuous connection and too expensive

A few questions I would like to ask before I suggest you for the troubleshooting steps. Is the problem with the wired connection or with the wireless connection?
If the problem is with both wired connection and wireless connection then try these troubleshooting steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] # Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1492 or less (usually found on your routers main/ basic setup page)
4] Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
Secondly avoid using any other wireless devices like cordless phones, microwave oven etc nearer to the router.

  • Unreliable connection with HomeFusion

First, I'd like to say I have been very happy with my service up until a week or two ago when I started experiencing persistent connection problems. About a month+ ago, I began having to hard reset my cantenna and router once or twice a week after logging into the router to see it stuck on "Connecting..." for at least 10 minutes. After doing a reset, it would be fine for at least a few days. Not a big deal. However, within the past couple weeks, I have had to reset the devices sometimes 2-3 consecutive times each day as the process was not as effective the first, second or more times. On Thursday, February 27, I could not get a stable connection at all, and since I use HomeFusion to telework, I called VZW support to diagnose the issue. We walked through the usual steps and I learned a few things, such as, in order to ensure a successful reboot, the cantenna should be unplugged for about 3 minutes (not the typical 15 seconds for other electronic devices). She also updated some things in the system, although I'm not sure what that entailed. When we were done, my system was up and running perfectly, and remained so until Friday evening (28th), when it started acting up again. Since then, it has not stabilized. I even went so far as to unplug the cantenna and turn off the router overnight (last night/this morning). It is still unstable but if I'm lucky, I will get a connection long enough to post this message. I monitored the connection status for about 15 minutes, and captured the status several times during the process. I have inserted them in the order taken, hoping this will shed some light on the issue.
    First, the firmware version:
Images containing private info removed as required by the Terms of Service.
Note: While adding the images, I experienced several episodes of waiting for the connection to reestablish itself.
Should I decide to call support later today, is there a way for the representative to refer to these images?

I have been fighting this pretty much since I was installed just a couple months ago.  The support rep I spoke with today basically admitted to me that it is a known issue. (having to reboot multiple times per day, takes 10-20 minutes for service to come up after reboot).
He also agreed with me that the service is not reasonably useable when it is this unreliable on a daily basis.
He also agreed with me that I should not have to pay full price for, or continue to use, a service that is broken, VZW knows it's broken, and they have no firm date from the Cantenna manufacturer if or when it will be fixed.
I asked him to cancel my crappy service and waive the termination fee.  He scheduled a cancel for 3/25, but says I am on the hook for $320 termination fee.  Here's a copy of the letter I am sending into the Public Utilities Comission of Ohio:
In December, I signed up for Verizon Home Fusion Broadband Internet for my home. The service was installed and worked fine for approximately three weeks when it began to crash and go offline multiple times each day. I did some online searching and discovered that Verizon was working on a software update to resolve the issue. I wanted until Late February, rebooting on a daily basis and finally got tired of waiting and called Verizon. I was informed that my system HAD received the update and should be working fine. Since it was still going offline every day, Verizon sent out a tech to relocate the antenna. This did not fix the problem. They sent out a 2nd tech a few days later to replace the antenna. This did not fix the problem.
I called Verizon again today, March 13th, to ask that they either repair my service or cancel it. They informed me that the antenna requires yet ANOTHER update in order to work properly. That update is not ready to be rolled out, and there is no target date as to when it might be ready. I asked that my service be cancelled. Verizon is charging me a $320 termination fee to cancel service that they themselves admit does not work. They themselves admit that they cannot provide a date when it might work correctly.
I would like to have this termination fee waived. I also believe I should receive a partial bill credit for the last two months of spotty, inconsistent, and all but unusable service.

  • HP Laserjet P1102w wireless connection/print issues. Unreliable connection

I have this printer in a business public wifi network with bonjour enabled. I installed this printer wirelessly, but any time I print to it, it takes minutes before the printer will actually receive and print the job.
I have found that power cycling the printer starts the print job faster, however I would like to be able to avoid having to do this every time. I cannot see this printer from other computers, or at the IP address it has registered, either. Only in the small window of printing the job does it actually appear on the wireless network, then it seems to disappear again. If I try pinging the printer I get a response saying it was not found. Unless I ping during a print job in which case it replies with all packets sent/received correctly.
I am using Windows 7 32bit, have installed the latest printer firmware, etc.
The blue WiFi light on the printer is usually off or flickering, but not really ever solid for more than a few seconds.

Sounds like the printer is having trouble stabilizing on the network.  Try following the steps in this document to stabalize the printer's wireless connection.  You can also try updating the firmware to improve the connectivity.  Let me know what happens.

  • I have an Ipad 4 and its been working fine up until the last week, and now it is very unreliable connecting to the internet and loading pages. It connects to the Wifi network without any problems, all my other devices have no problems at all. Any help?

I have reset netwrok settings, ip addresses are all fine, restarted my router, but I may be missing something. Anyone else having similar problems?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • UNRELIABLE  CONNECTION i chat 2.1

    Hi
I am sure I have read somehwere the suggested answers to this question but am unable to come up withthe relevant posts, so may I ask again.
I have had a reliable i Chat 2.1 connection with my father for 18 months but recently the connection wont go through either end. I can send text but not video. It flags up a message "Network time out in starting connection... tried to send to ... my fathers Ip address and then my address. Is this due to an update we have downloaded from Apple or some other reason. Any help very welcome.
Both using i macs 1.2 ghz with Netopia and Netgear routers. both 756 ram both OSX 10.3.9 both i sight cameras.

    Hi Ralph,
Thank you for the UPnP suggestion which seemed to resolve the basic problem however we have lost audio in 3 out of 10 test connections.
I have switched on and off the UPnP at my Netgear end but am unable to do the same at the Netopia end. Would the loss of audio at the Netopia Cayman 3341 end as above perhaps be solved by a similar switching mode. My father is not perhaps confident enough being 89 to address the Cayman without my help so what might be a simple matter if one might be able to do so has to be a matter of possibilities and maybes until I can visit. Then of course I cannot test it against my computer. Thats life though.
Thanks for the help and any other fixes which might be possble.

  • Unreliable connection on xps 13 with n6235

After replacing the motherboard, made with assistance, the connection is no longer reliable.
Thinking that the cause was the driver of the network card I tried to uninstall the one currently in use (15.10.3.2), which has a later version that is available on the website of the (15.10.0.11), but in no way I can uninstall it .
Precise that the driver for intel n6235 is only available for Windows 8 and not for Windows 8.1 (this on my pc.
How can I fix the probem of frequent disconnections?

    Hi Todd,
I contacted the support of Intel after reading their long tread about the problems that the community has reported on their network card.
Their support has invited me to download a recent driver that I am attaching
    downloadcenter.intel.com/.../Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-for-Windows-8-1-
After doing this update, the disconnection problems were resolved. However, remains that of the low sensitivity of the network card.
I often work from customers and this is a big problem for me because I can not connect to their network in the office where I work.
I hope it can help you, adding this detail. Just start the pc, the list of available networks, it shows some (almost all those who see my smartphone). After a few minutes, the list of available networks is reduced to one very close to my pc. I think this happens in response to load other programs.
The idea that I have is the fact that the original motherboard was perfectly compatible with the network card installed. After replacing the motherboard compatibility is not been the same, reducing the sensitivity of the general pc.
Thanks again for the support that is giving me

  • Unreliable connection with tempsensor

Can this be the answer to why the MBP15" goes so hot? It looses connection with it´s´CPU temeraturesensor.
I´ve been running the reportapps Temperature Monitor and CoreDuoTemp for a week now and the connection to the CPU´s tempsensor is gone to and from. You can see that the apps works because the HD tempsensor is still reporting.

    Hi. Two things:
1 - the dbms is sometimes unable to make all the connections it is asked for at runtime,
so some requests will fail in this way. Set the pool to have as many connections as
you think you'll need as it's initial capacity so the server makes all the connections at
    startup.
2 - In your finally block, if the result set or statement close() throws an exception,
you'll skip the more important connection close(). I'd suggest:
    finally
    try
// By JDBC spec, if the connection is closed, all sub-objects
    // are automatically also closed.
    if ( conn != null ) {  conn.close(); }
    catch (SQLException ex)
    { // Catch All exceptions
    ex.printStackTrace();
    }//EO finally

  • Unreliable connection, reduced upstream from 448K ...

Having got nowhere with the inept Broadband Technical Team, I have resorted to writing here to clear up the issue. Despite stating that it is highly unsual for the upstream on ADSL2+ to shift from 448K, I got the usual blurb from the "technical" team.
My connection has been flaky all day following 25 days of stable connection, the upstream has been fluctuating and currently sits at 160K (which I have never seen in 7 years of my connection at the same premises). To add to this, I did a BT Wholesale speed check and actually got a higher download than my IP profile.
Is this a sign there is a problem with the card at the exchange and if so, how do I escalate it - a question that the off the script readers couldn't do at BT.
Here are the screenshots of my router connection page and BT Wholesale speed check. I'm hopign someone competent from BT will clear this up...yes, I have tried a different filter and no Im not doing a download speed test over WLAN.

  • Unreliable connection and constant hangs

    Hello.
Since a week ago, I've been having these troubles with lates version of Firefox hanging ALL THE TIME. I tried almost everything, nothing seemed to work. Today I tried reseting Firefox. And guess what? I can't make sure if it worked because now I have this problem with GOOGLE saying that it is an unrelieable connection. Specifics below:
www.google.com usa un certificado de seguridad no válido.
El certificado no es confiable porque ninguna cadena emisor fue proporcionada.
    (Código de error: sec_error_unknown_issuer)
I'm sorry, my Firefox is in Spanish, but I guess the important part is the Error Code. Please help.

You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer of the certificate.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If <b>"I Understand the Risks"</b> is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
*Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or FiddlerRoot can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.
*Note that it is not recommended to add a permanent exception in cases like this, so only use it to inspect the certificate.

  • Pathetic speeds and unreliable Connection

    Hi
I have been having pathetic speeds and an unstable connection on my BT broadband since the start of 2010 I suspect this coincides with the roll out of 21CN on my local exchange. I use BT to mainly talk to my famly over skype but since the start of 2010 the quality of calls has gradually gone downhill and it became almost impossible to use my broadband connection in august when it would randomly disconnect and the audio and video quality on skype became utterly pathetic.
On talking to indian call centre, I got told that my router was faulty and since my contract ran out in august, I need to sign up to a new contract to recieve a replacement router. on signing up to a years new contract on 2nd September and going with the ussual hassle of a few weeks delay in getting the router and arguing with the indian call centres to get the router sent as they delibrately cancel the router delivery after making the sale, when I eventually got the router the broadband was no better, I complaining further to BT I got told there is a fault at the exchange which they'll fix and the broadband speed would go up. Guess what nothing happened to the speed. In 2009 the typical speed on my connection according to speed test used to be 5.5 Mbs up and 500kbs down now I was stuck with 3Mbs and 270kbs and then things took a turn for worse in the last week of October the speed went down to 50kbs (down) on checking with bt speed test, I found my IP Profile was limited to 65kbs. I called up BT to complain again this time they decided to send and engineer over to my house who while doing the test casually told me that line doesn't have any problems but even though you should be connected at ADSL2+ none of my checks confirm this is the case the switches may be ADSL2+ but the backend is not connected. Now I don't know what to make of this except may be say BT is cheating with its customers.
Please free to make suggestions to help me, my router stats are:
    ADSL line status
    Connection information
    Line state Connected
    Connection time 0 days, 0:43:43
    Downstream 4,188 Kbps
    Upstream 612 Kbps

  • E2000 Wireless - Unreliable connectivity

I had a WRT54G that was losing its WAN connection every few days, so I replaced it with an E2000. The WRT54G had lived its live of 5 years.
I am regretting buying this E2000. It promised better range - Feel short on that, range is less than my old router. If I do connect a device to it and run a ping test to Google, it goes from 16ms up to 2220ms in a test of 20 packets. Up and down.
I had two wireless bridges that used to connect to the WRT54G to provice some connectivity for some devices across the house that could not use wireless. They worked perfectly for years... but now with this new router, they get a signal maybe once or twice a week.
A call to tech support resulted in them just saying, "Power cycle it." Yeah.. that isn't going to cut it for a product support tech guys.
What gives Linksys?? You are a division of Cisco.. the networking King.

    Hello,
I think you live in the past also ...
I had that wonderful router wrt54g!
I switched to the top of the range wrt610n, nearly 200pounds... To find not working for months, until they finally release a firmware update which corrected the bigger problems.
Now its started to misbehave again, but i'm not surprise anymore...
yes power cycle your router or even better "HM change the bite rate from 100 to 75", "change the MTU value".... (as if their router is not capable of working by default).  Anyway those are standard customer services answers dipped into milk:
My router is next to me, no walls, nothing, only a nearly empty studio, 4meters away from my router. And yet it dissapears sometimes....
Well all that to say good luck, but dont expect much from their support nowadays/ Corporates spirit. But that means probably you need to prove the router is deffective, which is...goodluck.
You probably have time to try a last time to get replacement on their phone, or to return it!!
(Mod note: Edited for forums compliance.)

  • How does cloud work out in the australian country where I have very slow upload and download speeds and have unreliable connections?

I really just cant get my head around how cloud works when I have such low access to internet downloads..

Under these conditions no service which relies on using a fair amount of bandwidth is going to work. In your situation you may be able to handle a moderate amount of email, calaendars and contacts, though it will be slow to load; but heavy uploading and downloading of for example images in Photo Stream is likely to take so long as to be impracticable.

  • E1200 - Unreliable and slow connection

I had a Linksys WRT54G router for 10 years and it worked perfectly, after some upgrades, but great. I have 1 Desktop, 1 Laptop, 1 Android Tablet, 3 Roku Boxes and XBOX and PS3. With my previous router I could use these devices with particular good speed and great in streaming HD.
The only good thing is its fairly easy to set up.
However, I am more interested in performance, and this is where this unit fails. The internet connection stalls at times on easy websites and lessens with multiple Roku boxes working. The picute on Netflix on my Roku Boxes looks like VCR Quality, compared to full 1080 HD with my previous router.
    This product has...
    Unreliable connection
    slow connection
    About me...
    Heavy media streamer

If I relate your issue then the above mentioned solution justifies the troubleshooting steps to be taken, however, in addition to that i would also like to suggest you to try and install your Linksys E1200 router using the Cisco Connect Software just in case, if you are not using it....
Installation disc that came along with your router would help you in installing this router using the Cisco Connect Software, using which you can expect this router to offer you best throughput with both wired and wireless connectivity.....
To set up your router using the Cisco Connect Software, you can use:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=93&login=1&vw=1&app=search&articleid=22732&userrole=Links...
Also, try re-installing your router using the Cisco Connect Software, and it should help your cause....Just in case required, you can use the above mentioned troubleshooting steps.....

  • No connectivity

My iPod classic 160 GB late 2009 is not recognized by my computer, nor iTunes. Please advise

I had some serious issues with my 310 N initially. I had a very unreliable connection that kept dropping my connection. I was not sure if it was a new Dell XPS with some Vista issue or what. I fought if for a long time and finally just deleted my network completely and reset the router (little red button). I use the point of a pin or a paper clip to hit it.
This time I used the set up disc as opposed to simply going to 192.168.1.1. Granted the disc still takes you there but I wanted to make sure I had not missed something being that it was a new model N router.
That is all I did and everything works fine. The 310 N coupled with a 64 bit platform on the XPS does nothing but rock and smoke and blistering speeds.....I love the entire setup now.
IF you have never setup a router before you need to walk through it using the setup disc. It is real simple.
    No need to disable firewalls.
focus on having the SSID the same as the name of your network won't cause a problem but good practice
Select Mixed and Channel 6 as well as TKIP on algorithms.
under security for wireless you want to use WPA and make up a key/password.
Make sure you scrowl all the way to the bottom of the page and save settings.

    Give that a whirl.
    Kudos! Thanks!
