Unresponsive script message, "Script: chrome://somoto/content/tb.js:2977", continue or stop script

On opening firefox (which now seems to take longer than previously, an error dialogue opens headed, "Warning unresponsive script" followed by the message,
"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
Script: chrome://somoto/content/tb.js:2977
I am then invited to check the tick box if I don't want to be asked again (of which no notice is taken)
I am also invited to "Continue" or "stop the script".
This occurs every time I open FireFox, and on opening, for example, a calendar where I must select a date in order to proceed with my Medicare provider claim.
In summary, two problems: slow to start up; and the persistent error message.
Thank you for your help!

  • Firefox 4 hangs while downloading files, sometimes get an error saying Script: chrome://mozapps/content/downloads/download.xml:68 is busy or may have stopped responding, how can I disable this script?

While downloading files Firefox 4 freezes (started with 3.5) and sometimes I get a window that says Script: chrome://mozapps/content/downloads/download.xml:68 has stopped responding or is busy and asks if I want to stop script or ignore. I have looked through about:config and don't see a way to disable the script and keep it disabled.

  • When starting Firefox I get the following error: chrome://webvideodownloader/content/webvideodownloaderbar.js:172. I have to click on "Continue" or "Stop" button for Firefox to boot up.

    Hi,
I started to get the following error every time I open Firefox. The message is chrome://webvideodownloader/content/webvideodownloaderbar.js:172
I started getting this message when I updated to Firefox 5. Every time, and I mean this literally, I open Firefox the above message appears. A box appears in the top right corner. Strange thing is that the whole box doesn't appear and the error doesn't appear completely either. It is like half the box is cut off at the screen's edge.
When this box appears there are two buttons: Continue and Stop. I have to click on one or the other for the Firefox browser to open. I looked at my plugins but don't see one with this location.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Paul

That can be caused by clearing the cookies via "Clear Recent History".
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Clear+Recent+History
    * Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" > [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
    * Firefox > History > Clear Recent History or Tools > Clear Recent History
If you use "Clear Recent History" to clear the cookies then Firefox also tries to clear the cookies from plugins like Flash (LSO) and starts a plugin-container process for each plugin and that can add extra time and can cause an unresponsive script error to appear.
Make sure that all plugins are up to date.
Try to exclude the cookies to see if that helps.
Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox to remove unwanted cookies and keep the ones with an allow exception.
Make sure that you do not clear the "Site Preferences" as that will remove all exceptions.

  • I try to restore my bookmarks from a json file but i get "warning: unresponsive script - Script: chrome://browser/content/browser.js:3580" message - please help

I have no idea why my bookmarks wont restore. I am confident that I even tried restoring them at the time of creation of the json file to make sure that they worked, and after i was confident i left them for a month or two then tried to restore them, but it does not work at all. I get Script: chrome://browser/content/browser.js:3580 (unresponsive script error msgs) and whether i click continue or stop script the bookmarks do not change. Please help - there is a lot of bookmarks there i was relying on.

Not sure if this is appropriate, but I have a similar problem. Yesterday I got an update from MS to my new Win 7 machine. Now all my bookmarks are gone except the three I have in the toolbar.
I have tried following the instructions here but it's not working. First: I can find the bookmark backup files, but don't have any html files there. They are listed as "bookmark-dates-number-a series of letters and numbers, then ==.json."
I'm confused as to what to do next.

  • I am getting this unresponsive script message when googling and its causing firefox to freeze "chrome:/wrc/content/common/scripts/bal.js:854" - Any advice?

When I try an google certain web sites including "NFL" firefox freezes and I get the unresponsive script chrome:/wrc/content/common/scripts/bal.js:854". I uninstalled Google Chrome but still have the same problem.

Thanks to philipp: I disabled the avast addon (from) when I updated to avast 9.0.2008, and the unresponsive script has stopped freezing firefox during google searches.
PS, I added this addon in it's place, Trustwave SecureBrowsing: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/m86security-secure-browsing/eula/224305?src=search
It's not too bad, and seems to be more thorough than the avast addon.
I also use the web of trust (WOT) addon.

  • End script error message: Script:chrome//wrc/content/overlay.js:1149

I get an unresponsive script error message asking me if I would like to end script now.
    Script:chrome//wrc/content/overlay.js:1149
Firefox freezes and I have to end the program in task manager. Please help!

The name "wrc" mentioned in the chrome URL is usually a hint to which extension is causing such an issue.<br />
You didn't list the extensions, so madperson wasn't able to give more precise instructions.
If it does work in Firefox Safe-mode then disable all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Frequent Unresponsive script error chrome://global/content/bindings/text.xml:32 w/ Firefox frozen

    I FREQUENTLY get a
    Unresponsive Script:
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue. Script: chrome://global/content/bindings/text.xml:32
after Firefox became frozen for about 20+ minutes. I tried disabling addons and Firefox safe mode, STILL get this error quite a bit

Do you see any connection between pages that generate this error and the use of the Flash plugin? Incompatibility with the Protected Mode feature of the Flash plugin is one possible cause for slow script errors (on pages that use Flash).
The Protected Mode feature has security benefits, but seems to have compatibility issues on some systems. You can disable it by creating or editing a settings file. The following pages/posts provide different approaches for that:
    * Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]

Flash needs to completely unload from memory (exiting and starting Firefox up again might help) before this takes effect.

Whenever I try to "clear recent history," which I try to do after every browsing session, I get a message saying "A script on this page may be busy or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete. This happens on both my home and work computers and I'm using Firefox 6.0 and a Windows XP Professional SP2 operating system on each computer. How can I remedy this?

That can be caused by clearing the cookies via [[Clear Recent History]].
    * Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" > [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings

  • My BetterPrivacy addon now Freezes firefox, causing a "Script: chrome//bp/content/bp.js:847" unresponsive notification. I'm still running Ff 3.6, and want to keep BetterPrivacy, but I have to disable it now. It worked just fine until recently.

I have to click on "Stop unresponsive script" to get Firefox to load, and then have to disable BetterPrivacy in order to use Ff normally. I haven't changed Ff or BetterPrivacy lately, to the best of my knowledge, but I can't use the BP add-on any longer.
Just in case, I also deleted my Chrome browser, which I had as a stand-by, but it didn't help. I still get "A script on this page is unresponsive: Script: chrome//bp/content/bp.js:847". Any ideas?
I'm not certain which version of BP I had when this problem started, but today I tried adding the latest version, 1.49, but still had same trouble.
Your "educated guess" is correct - Ff 3.616 and Vista.

I turned off the accelrator months ago. That was the first thing I did. It helped some. The problem is getting progressively worse, so it seems like every upgrade in the past 3-4 months is causing the problem.

  • Since V.6, I've been getting this message when I download: Script: chrome://mozapps/content/downloads/downloads.js:1203 I have Mac 1.83GHz Core Duo 2GBram

Beginning with Version 6 and now with Version 7, I've been getting a hang and this message when I download:
    Script: chrome://mozapps/content/downloads/downloads.js:1203
    Stop Script or continue?
    I have Mac 1.83GHz Core Duo 2GBram

    Hi,
Please try couple of probable solutions as mentioned below:
    Solution 1:
    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down Cmnd+ alt + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Solution 2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.

  • Script error message chrome://accountcolors/content/accountcolors-3panewindow.js:966

About 1 month ago when I start Thunderbird it freezes and I get a message that Thunderbird is "Not Responding." After about 5 minutes I get
Script Error chrome://accountcolors/content/accountcolors-3panewindow.js:966 Do you want to halt script. If I say yes about 1 minute later I can use Thunderbird. I get that I have a script error but how do I resolve it?

First thing to do when there is an issue is to '''Clean House''' (clear cache & cookies, then run your maint software).
Often I find that when I have an application that is not responding there is high CPU usage. So, you may have a program that is using most of your CPU capacity.
Your Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) may be able to tell you what processes are running and the amount of resources each is using.
There are other process managers and system explorers that give more detailed information
