"UnsatisfiedLinkError:  make_statement" when run in debugger

I have a problem retrieving a ResultSet from a REF CURSOR --
apparently due to the JVM failing to locate requisite
native code within Oracle.
The problem is not in the code itself, but somewhere in the
configuration / environment / debugger. I conclude this because
the application runs perfectly outside the debugger (and
has, for years).
It fails only when the JVM attempts to locate a native method
within Oracle, when running the application from an Eclipse debug
launch configuration within the (newly acquired) Eclipse 3.0.1 debugger.
I should mention that we also very recently upgraded to Oracle 9i.
Therefore, I conclude the problem must be some kind
of runtime classpath / library search path mis-resolution,
or a java / oracle client code mis-match.
But I cannot find the cause.
WHAT I'VE ALREADY CHECKED / TRIED:
(1) I have quadruple-checked the jar list within the 'Classpath'
tab of the Eclipse's debug launch configuration dialog -- the
classes12.jar, etc. are those we've been using successfully in
the past.
(2a) Rather than rely on the system Path variable, I resorted to
explicitly specifying the -Djava.library.path as a VM option within
the 'Arguments' tab of the same dialog, as well. The library search
list specified within the Eclipse debug launch configuration is
identical to the system Path variable used when the application
is run outside the debugger. The behavior is the same regardless
of whether -Djava.library.path is specified in the debugger, or not.
(2b) I have modified the -Djava.library.path value specification
with forward slashes rather than backslashes as file separators
-- it made no difference. I also eliminated newlines -- it made
no difference, either.
RELEVANT ENVIRONMENT:
WindowsXP
WebLogic 6.1
Oracle 9i (recent upgrade to this version; the Oracle server is installed)
Eclipse 3.0.1
OCI JDBC Driver
THE CODE:
theStatement.registerOutParameter (1, oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleTypes.CURSOR);
if (inArgs != null)
setInputFields ( theStatement, inArgs.iterator(), 2);
theStatement.execute();
// THROWS 'UnsatisfiedLinkError' FROM THIS LINE:
theResultSet = (ResultSet) theStatement.getObject ( 1 );
Enumeration returnItems = parseResults ( theResultSet );
theStatement.close();
THE ERROR THROWN:

THE LIBRARY SEARCH PATH:
(The same path is specified as the value for both as the system Path variable,
and as the -Djava.library.path JVM argument.)
-Djava.library.path="C:\oracle\ora92\bin;
C:\oracle\ora92\jre\1.4.2\bin\client;
C:\oracle\ora92\1.4.2\bin;
C:\Program Failes\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\bin;
C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.8\bin;
C:\Windows\system32;
C:\Windows;
C:\Windows\system32\wbem;
C:\Program Files\appA\bin"
ODD THING / CLUE?
Strangely, if I simply move the 'C:\oracle\ora92\bin' directory later
in the Library Search Path, the application continues to run
fine outside of Eclipse, but from within Eclipse,
the JVM now fails to locate the requisite ocijdbc9.dll and the
application produces a different error:
"java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no ocijdbc9 in java.library.path"
The ocijdbc9.dll is present within C:\oracle\ora92\bin, so I would
have expected the JVM to still be able to find it, despite simply
moving the directory later in the search path.
This must surely be telling me something I am simply too dense /
distracted to pick up on.
I cannot determine why the JVM fails to locate the make_statement
native method when run from within the Eclipse debugging environment.
Should I be looking at version changes to the classes12.jar attendant
to the Oracle 9i upgrade?
Any clues or help out there?

Answering my own question:
YES, it was correct to suspect a mis-match between the version of the Oracle jar files used to generate the class files and the Oracle .dll libraries.
It turned out a buddy in the group changed the debugger configuration to use a special directory containing all the third-party jar files the app depends upon, for convenience. Unfortunately, he somehow picked up an old version of one of those jar files (classes12.zip) that came from some pre-Oracle 9i installation. Once I updated the directory to contain the Oracle 9i version of that jar file, the JVM was now able to locate the requisite code at run-time, and the debugger worked.
Now the only mystery is why the hell the app ran fine outside the debugger, but I suspect the launch command is running a different application jar / class file set that was not built with the bogus old classes12.zip.

  • Code behaves differently when run in debugger

    var he:Array = handControl.getHumanInfo(ha, handNumber);
    while (he.length != 0)
    humanInfo.push(he.shift());
    This snippet is part of a large flash project I am working
    on. The program works fine by itself, but when I try to step
    through it in the debugger, it sometimes crashes, depending on
    where I put a breakpoint. If I put the breakpoint on the first line
    of code above, I can step into the function getHumanInfo(), trace
    it, and step back out, and everything is fine. But if I only put a
    breakpoint somewhere inside the getHumanInfo() function, all of a
    sudden when I step out of that function, the variable 'he' is
    undefined, and so the while loop never ends.
    This makes no sense to me. The code is either good or bad, it
    shouldn't behave differently based on where I put the breakpoint.
    The getHumanInfo() function always creates a new array and
    passes it back, so there is no reason 'he' should be undefined.
    This has happened many times when I've tried to use the flash
    CS3 debugger -- is there a known issue that this sounds like? I'm
    so fed up I'm ready to stop using the debugger altogether.

    I ran the program without the debugger and put some trace()
    statements in, just to make sure. Everything works fine without the
    debugger. So it seems to me it has to be a debugger issue. Has
    anyone heard of a similar issue?

  • Process.Start - getting different output when running command using this method than I am if I run same command in CMD prompt

    Hi
    Creating an application to analyze .dmp files - all working well except this odd issue
    If I open command prompt and enter this command:-
    kd -z C:\Windows\MiniDump\042414-24632-01.dmp -c "!analyze -v"
    Then it works and shows me all the output I need (shown at bottom of post)
    If I run same command in VB.net using following code - then it doesn't give the same output - the bits I need at the end created by the !analyze -v switch don't appear
    Any ideas why it is not seeing the switch correctly - setting a breakpoint and checking contents of startinfo seems to be showing correct cmd line i.e. "kd -z C:\windows\minidump\042414-24632-01.dmp -c "!analyze –v;q""

    myprocess.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False
    myprocess.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = True
    myprocess.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = True
    myprocess.Start()

    Try it by opening the Cmd prompt as the actual process and passing the Filename and its arguments as the arguments of the Cmd process.  If you notice there is a "-C" before the Filename and Arguments in this example.  The "-C"
    tells the cmd to execute the commands and then close itself.  You can also use a "-K" which tells the cmd to execute the commands and keep itself open.  Being you are not showing the cmd window you don`t want to keep it opened because the
    user can`t close it so, that is why i used "-C".
     I don`t have the program so, you can just experiment to see what it does.  Maybe you should try using "-K" and show the cmd window by commenting out the CreateNoWindow line so you can see what is in the cmd window while testing.

    .CreateNoWindow = True
    .RedirectStandardOutput = True

    p.Start()

    End Sub

    Hi All,
    i am trying to run a batch process by LSMW, my files are accurate, no problem with them, everything works fine but it fails when run in BG..works absolutely fine in front end. whats the diff with running in B/G?
    same thing happens when i am trying to execute an RFC thru SAP JCO, it works when debugger is on (i guess switching on debugger is similar to running in B/G) but it doesnt work when debugger is off. but when i execute that RFC directly in se37 from SAP gui it works fine..fails when connected to JCO..
    i am not having this issue with r/3 4.6c or mySAP ECC.6.0  i have this issue only in r/3 4.7.
    has anyone faced the similar situtaion? pls help.
    thanks.

    for LSMW its the recording of transaction PA40 (employee hire fails when filling  address details) and PA30 (change address) and same is the case with RFC..well its a BAPI_ADDRESSEMPUS_CHANGE.
    To eloborate more..the error is..Fill in all the mandatory fields.
    which i am very much doing..there are no hidden fields or anything..i have seen the screens etc..I AM filling all mandatory fields. infact i am not leaving anything unfilled., same scrren is going fine when in front end..i am just clicking ok..ok..ok and boom transaction complete..no complaints. but running B/G is killing me.
    i have to run batch for 100,000 employees
    What fails my logic is..its working fine in 4.6c and mySAP ECC.6.0 but not in 4.7

  • Pc bogs down when running longer, more voluminous queries

    Hi we run 2012 enterprise.
    I'm noticing that when running longer and higher column count queries locally, other parts of my computer (os w7 professional, 64 bit, 8gb) start getting sluggish.  I started looking for wasted disk space and started cleaning up but wonder if here are
    some standard steps for keeping other things like browsers, spreadsheets, email etc etc from suffering while longer sql queries r running?  It is much worse when ssis is in the picture (even after stopping debugger) but i thought i'd start in this forum.

    Hello,
    That's kind of the point of SQL Server is to use the resources to return the data as quickly and efficiently as possible. It's server based software. I'm not sure which edition you are using, as express is capped in memory usage but if you're using standard
    or above you'll want to set the max server memory to something low enough to not impact your other applications (though this could cause disk thrashing and make things worse).
    Since SQL Server isn't really made for desktop usage (ok, express edition is kind of) the only thing you can do is kee your queries and data items light and efficient. Tune the queries, use indexes, etc.  From the OS side of view there isn't anything
    you can do. If you're running enterprise edition (which I highly doubt) you could employ resource governor but why shoot yourself in the foot? Plus Enterprise edition costs more than the desktop and it woul dmake sense to use an actual server.
    If you add SSIS into the mix, yes it could (and probably will) perform much worse.

  • Strange problem when running scripts via packages

    Hi there,
    I am having problems with a really wierd issue, and I'm just wondering if anyone else is seeing the same thing.
    I have a simple script which copies some data around with the same application, and it runs perfectly when run from the script debugger. But when I try and run it from a package, no matter what path I add into the "MODIFYSCRIPT" variable, the package keeps trying to run DEFAULT logic.
    This is from my Formula log after the package has run (and failed, as I temporarily renamed DEFAULT.lgf):
    Logic File:E:\BPC\Data\WebFolders\<appset>\Adminapp\work_Force\CopyCatWORKFORCE.lgf
    (this is the correct path to my logic file)
    But then further down I get an error:
    missing file:E:\BPC\DATA\WebFolders\<appset>\AdminApp\work_Force\DEFAULT.LGX
    I'm not trying to run default logic, and this doesn't appear in my CopyCatWorkforce.lgf script as an *INCLUDE either.
    I have tried to create a brand new package file in BIDS, but for some reason it STILL looks for default even though I haven't told it to!
    Any ideas? I'm stumped on this one!
    Thanks,
    Jason

    OK, so I have just realised I didn't have the LOGICMODE=1 flag in my MODIFYSCRIPT, which I've now added!
    Solved this issue, but now created another one... closing this and will post a new question later...

  • Can you "debug" a form when running on the App. Server?

    We recently got a project to do defect fixing of a Oracle Forms 10g application.
    They have given us each developer a VM with an app. server, source code etc.
    Problem is, we cannot run the form using the Form Builder.
    They want us to always make changes to the form, deploy in the app. server and run the form using the Application Menu.
    Problem is, how can we do line-by-line debugging in a situation like this?
    Normally, we would press the "Run form debug" button to run the form in Forms developer in debug mode.
    What is the solution?
    Should we ask the owners to give us permission to run the form from Developer?
    Or, is there way to do debugging a form when running from app. server?

    user12240205 wrote:
    So Craig, why is it prompting me with a File Open dialog box when it tries to run a DB procedure?
    What does the Forms debugger supposed to do? Run it and bring back result?
    Because Forms doesn't know how to load the object so it is prompting you to open it.  However, since the Forms debugger can't read the source of the database program unit (procedure, package, function) - you can't debug it from Forms.  At least, I've never been able to do it and I've tried making Forms open a source file for a database program unit.  It basically boils down to the fact that Oracle Forms can only debug objects that are within the scope of the Forms runtime/builder and database program units are not contained within the Forms objects (eg; Forms binary, PL/SQL Library or Menu Module binary).  I recommend you "Step-Over" any call to a database program unit when you encounter them in the Forms debugger.  The database program unit will take longer than normal to run, but it will eventually finish and take you to the next line of code to be executed.

  • Global data getting reset when running under IIS?

    We have a scenario using IIS with an ASP.NET web service written in VB.NET. When a call to the web service is made, the web service calls a native dll (written in C, compiled using VS2010) using platform invoke, which in turn calls into our product API:
    VB.NET web service -> native library (p/invoke) -> native API ....
    Web service requests are successfully completed and the system runs without problem for hours. A trace of the native API shows it is being called by multiple processes and multiple threads within those processes.
    The main native API dll contains a static global variable used to detect whether it is the first time it has been called and run initialization logic if it is. This dll is itself linked to a second dll that contains a global variable used to detect if it is
    the first time it has been called.
    After some hours the trace shows that the native API is invoked by an existing process but that the initialization logic is being exercised again, even though the global variable was set to indicate not first time and is never reset.  One theory was that
    the first process has ended and a new process has started almost instantaneously using the same process ID. However this is not the case as existing thread IDs from the same process are seen to write to the trace again after the first time logic has executed
    for the second time, indicating the process has not restarted. The problem occurs regularly.
    It is as though the process's global data has been initialized again and malloc'ed memory freed while the processing is still running. Is there any way this is possible when running under IIS?
    There is an internal thread which waits on a blocking read of a named pipe (via ReadFile), and when the problem occurs, the ReadFile call ends with ERROR_NO_ACCESS, which appears to indicate the malloc'ed buffer is no longer valid, again implying something
    has happened to the memory allocated to the process.

    Hi Rajani.
      ALV require the DRYPOR(screen) for display but incase you run in back ground which have to write to spool but in spool we can only write in format of LIST REPORT not inter-active report like ALV. That why
    system cancelled your process immediately.
    Hope it helps.

  • Secondary monitor on 20"iMac, How to set portrait orientation when running

    How do you set the display rotation in Windows XP?
    I have a secondary monitor (wall-mounted at 90 degrees to normal) that OS X handles just fine (the display preference window provides a rotate function). However, when running Windows XP, the secondary monitor is still available, but I can not find a setting that will rotate the display. I downloaded the Apple Boot Camp ATI driver from AMD's site and the driver version went from 8.39 to 8.43. Still no visible way to rotate the secondary display. I then upgraded Boot Camp to 2.1 after which the ATI driver version went to 8.45. Still no rotate functionality.
    I have tried using the ALT-OPTION-ARROW key with no success (recommended on some obscure Windows XP forum). I also downloaded the Apple Boot Camp Crystal Control Center from the AMD site, but it would not execute after installation (this upon yet another obscure recommendation).
    I also have Windows XP on my MacBook. It uses an NVIDIA driver and it will allow display rotation.
    Any help or advice is appreciated.

    Updating my original post:
    I have resolved the issue. The ATI Catalyst Control Center app (I meant Catalyst, not Crystal in my original post) needs Microsoft's .NET Framework 2.0, which was not included in my original Windows XP installation.
    After downloading and installing the .NET Framework 2.0 package and reinstalling the Catalyst Control Center app, I am now able to rotate the secondary monitor display to the portrait orientation.
    I use the secondary monitor primarily viewing on-line documentation while working with an application on the primary screen. The portrait orientation provides a much better environment for reading documentation as I can view 2+ pages at the same time.
