Unsuccessful update from Numbers 2009 to 3.1

Hey.  This is my first post ever, so be gentle.  A few weeks ago I updated numbers to version 3.1 (said successful) (along with pages, keynote, imovie, etc.) but "about numbers" still identifies it as the 2009 version after upgrade and the avatar is still the avatar for the old 2009 version.  When i check for software updates, the response is that none are available and it lists numbers version 3.1 as installed on January 23rd.  Any ideas?  I'm on a Mac Pro running the latest version of everything (OS X version 10.9.1).  Since the install, I have closed numbers and shut down the computer multiple times.  Thanks.

You very likely have both the old and new versions on your Mac.
The new version lives in your main Applications folder.
The old version is in a subfolder with Applications named iWork '09.
Both versions can coexist happily on your Mac.
If you typically start the program by clicking on an icon in your Dock then you need to go to Applications and drag that Numbers to the Dock.  The existing icon on the Dock still points to the old version. Here I have both in the dock, the old (three-column) version on top and the new (four-column) beneath it.

In the latest version of Pages (5.0) I cannot find the refresh button to update a chart copied from Numbers (also latest version 3.0). I saved my Numbers document before copying to Pages. Can anyone help?

I think you identified my mistake. I confused tables-charts-graphs. I was wanting a "table" of cells (numbers) to be added to the Pages document. Is there no way to do that and keep the tables linked between Numbers09 and Pages09?
An example would be a Numbers spreadsheet calculating a number (say, a product price) and that number (data) be linked to a product information text in Pages.
I just recently saw the Merge function in Pages, but have not yet learned how that works. I don't use Pages much at all but it would come in handy for creating to information sheets about products --- with the product pricing being updated from a Numbers spreadsheet.
If you have any hints on how that can be done or where I can find info on that I would appreciate it.
    Thanks for catching my misunderstanding.

  • How do I create a chart in Keynote that auto-updates from data in Numbers?

Hello all!  So, there are lots of answer to this for iWork'09, but I haven't found them for the current version of Work.
What I'd like to do is take data from Numbers and create a chart in Keynote that would then auto-update if I edited the data in Numbers.  Put another way, the Keynote chart data would 'live' in Numbers - every time I edit the Numbers data, I'd like those changes to reflect in Keynote.  Any thoughts on how to do this outside of always cutting and pasting from Numbers to Keynote?
    Thanks!!

Thanks Gary.  I thought I was crazy.  I remember that it used to be available - bummer that it's not now.

Hi Jen.  My daughter just compleated her nursing program and is now working as a full time nurse.  Focus and study hard and soon you will be there too.  Now to the problem at hand.  I have the same problem.  I gave up on it and satisfied myself with my iPod without the upgrade.  Reason being I've read so many posts of people having problems after the upgrade.  But I'm sure other factors are involved.  Nevertheless here is the fix most say works to solve the problem:  What ever virus protection you have installed on your computer, disable it.  Then try to install the update. After that enable the protection. I had Kaspersky, and it does it's job well. The thinking is, the virus protection is blocking the upgrade.  Hope this works.   Charlie

  • After updating numbers and pages I can no longer copy multiple cells from numbers and paste and match style to pages.

After updating numbers and pages I can no longer copy multiple cells from numbers and paste and match style to pages.  I used to be able to select multipule cells in a row (such as company name, address, etc.) then paste and match style on to a pages letter. I found the paste and match style option in the edit menu, however it will only work one cell at a time. Before the update is was working great.

For diagnosing purpose thy the procedure in a new user account and see if it works there. You create a new user account in the System Preferences > Accounts. If it works in the new account it is probably a corrupt plist file that needs to be deleted.

  • Chart pasted into Keynote (from Numbers) won't update. Please help.....

When i copy a chart from Numbers 09 and paste into Keynote 09, it won't update (if i make a change in Numbers). It's the same problem if i try and paste a chart into Pages also.  Any advice (i've tried the usual solutions)???

This is the procedure for charts:
Updating a Chart Copied from a Numbers Document
If you’ve created a chart in Numbers, you can copy it and paste it into your Keynote
presentation. After it’s been pasted into Keynote, the chart remains linked to the data
    tables it references in Numbers.
To change the chart data, open the original Numbers
document and edit the data there, save the Numbers document, and then refresh the
    chart data in Keynote.
To update a chart after you’ve updated its data in its linked Numbers table:
mm Select the chart on the slide canvas and click the Refresh button that appears.
Note: You must save the Numbers document before copying and pasting your chart
into your Keynote presentation and after editing the Numbers data tables that the
    chart references.

  • Send a copy option missing from Numbers update

Updated Numbers a few weeks ago to the newest version. Under the Share menu, the option to "Send a copy via email" is missing. The only options are "Share via iCloud" and "Share Settings", which only allows me to toggle on/off the iCloud sharing feature. Any ideas if this is a bug or am I missing something?

A stab in the dark...but my guess now is that this is not a Numbers problem but something to do with sharing on your machine.
Though about Safari and not Numbers you may be able to find something applicable in this thread.
    Or this thread.
One test you might do is sign in as another user on your Mac and see if sharing from Numbers works on that account.

More examples needed? (check out the communities and the reviews)
    - OSX: Maverick to Yosemite = not recommended (check it out > http://roaringapps.com/apps)
    - iPad: older versions as iPad2 should not upgrade to iOS7/8 (it's not supporting its hardware accordingly, it's designed for the latest hardware)
    - iTunes (it's possible to rollback to 10.7 - 11.4, but you need to breech OSX system security framework)
    - Pages (was a real alternative for many of us, each update reduced features and created incompatibility to older work files)

  • Keynote document saved in icloud not updating with data from Numbers? is icloud the problem

keynote document saved in icloud not updating with data from Numbers? is icloud the problem.
If both files are held locally on the computer it looks like there is no problem however if you try and do it though icloud (ie your docs are saved on icloud) you dont get the "source" oprion besides the graph etc. Is this a but or a broken function due to the new implementation of icloud.

  • Can't update Numbers update from Apple Store

I can't update latest Numbers update from Apple Store

    Hello, AQUAJIM.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would need clarification on what the exact issue you are experiencing when attempting to update Numbers to provide a better answer.  However, here are some troubleshooting steps that will help.
Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store:
Make sure your date, time, and time zone are correct in Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: Time Zone may list another city in your time zone.
Make sure that your iOS software is up to date by tapping Settings > General > Software Update(iOS 5 or later) or connecting your iOS device to iTunes and clickingCheck for Update on your device's Summary page.
Check and verify that you're in range of a Wi-Fi router or base station. If you're on a device with cellular service, make sure that cellular data is turned on from Settings > General > Cellular.
Note: If connected to cellular data, larger items may not download. You may need to connect to Wi-Fi to download apps, videos, and podcasts.
Make sure that you have an active Internet connection. You can check the user guidefor your device for help with connecting to the Internet.
Make sure that other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.
Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
If the issue persists, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi networks and connections.

  • Automatically update a Numbers spreadsheet from other application/documents

    Hi,
Before I start I am a relative novice in using Numbers, and if it applies in this instance, Applescript and Automator. I run a small local weekly free newspaper (created using InDesign if that is relevant) which is paid for by adverts; I want to create a spreadsheet to track my advertisers and the financials in every respect - renewals, sizes and duration of ads, amount paid and owing, and a whole load of other stuff which includes their contact details. Now I know that I can import the relevant info from Address Book as a snapshot at that moment, but what I want to know is whether it is possible to have the spreadsheet automatically update whenever I change a contact or add a new one to my Address Book? As far as I have been able to ascertain so far, it is not, so if that is the case, is there some sort of workaround, possibly using Automator and another app or even the web, where this can be done? Or is it possible the other way round, where I keep the contact details updated in Numbers and this gets transferred to Address Book? Or any other bright ideas? I don't really want to have to type the same information, or even copy/paste it for every new customer, as well as inputting it into my phone (which I don't think is able to sync with my Mac - it is a Samsung).
Please keep any scripting/technical answers as simple as possible, as I don't have much experience with it. Thanks in anticipation...

I have been doing a lot more reading on the forum and I now think there might be a partial solution to what I would like to do, possibly even a complete one, but I am not sure if what I have in mind is possible.
Using Automator/Applescript, could it be done that on a weekly basis Address Book gets opened automatically, the relevant group of contacts (which is already set up) is selected and copied/exported, and then Numbers and the relevant sheet opened automatically and the updated contact list pasted/imported? In addition is it possible to set up a script that can check if a group in AB has been changed, and if it has for this to be the trigger for the earlier script/workflow I have described rather than a date (every week in this case)? Again this could work the other way around, with the Numbers sheet being the one changed by me, and then a script to update AB. Any help would be massively appreciated.
I have now managed to set up iSync to work with my phone so that can be updated once AB has been, but I am still working on getting the information from the phone to AB to be correct for Numbers! This is because of how my phone contact details is stored which is different seemingly from AB and I am not sure if I can sort that out. There is a First Name and Last Name field but no Company name in my phone, and I need to have all of those for it to work.

  • Rebranded from POSReady 2009 to Windows XP Embedded after updates

We are currently building a Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 image for a number of touch based terminals.
I started off by installing the base OS POSReady 2009 (non-evaluation version) and ran the windows update. After about 142 updates later my OS is now rebranded to Windows XP Embedded(System Properties, Login screens, etc...). I was able to narrow down the
    problematic update to
    KB975713
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/MS10-007
due to the severity of the update and our terminals having a network connection we can not exclude the update from the build. I also checked the underlying OS using the method advised here
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/cd3a07e5-87c0-429e-ac81-4223dbb5e91b/xpe-vs-wepos?forum=posready
both pre and post updates are the same (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\POSReady = 1). Would it
be safe to assume the rebranding was skin deep?
This caused issue with our users as they are questioning our choice of OS due to Windows XP Embedded having a shorter end of life support vs Embedded POSReady 2009.
    http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/search/default.aspx?sort=PN&alpha=embedded&Filter=FilterNO
We have thought about changing the images inside the dlls but decided it will violate the EULA. Is this correct?
The question is how would we go about changing the brand of the OS back to POSReady 2009 without violating the EULA?

Yes, for example that there is already IE7 included out-of-the-box instead of IE6, etc. (newer software versions), that there is 'fbreseal -keepall' optionally available instead of SysPrep and unattended setup is completely different. Additionally POSReady2009
comes with some interesting EEFs: FBWF for instance.
    Best regards, Roman Maier

  • How do i create a chart that will update in keynotes or pages from numbers?

I created a table in Numbers and want to export it to Pages and Keynote. I want the changes made in Numbers to Show in Pages and Keynotes.

    Hi edwill,
In iWork, I don't know of a way to link between documents. If you are looking for a way to update a Pages or Keynote document automatically when you update a Numbers document, I don't think that is possible. Perhaps someone who is an AppleScript guru can call in to help you.

  • Updating Pages, Numbers and Keynote in OS X Yosemite

I have a mid 2009 white MacBook, on which I have just installed OXS Yosemite.  I am prompted to update Pages, Numbers and Keynote in the Mac App store.  When I try to do this (also when I try to update via software update notifications), I am then told they can't update because they were not purchased with this Apple ID.  I presume I set up my Apple ID after I'd purchased this MacBook with iWork preinstalled.  I'd even be happy to repurchase these apps, but the app store won't let me because it just says 'update' instead of giving me a price.  Any thoughts?

Here is a link to App Store Support. Apple iWork applications were never preinstalled on Apple hardware prior to 2014. This was a separate purchase, either earlier on via iWork '09 DVD, or later by OS X App Store purchase. Your preinstalled comment suggests to me that your Mac was pre-owned, and someone else installed iWork '09 applications using their Apple ID — which would block you from updating through your own Apple ID.
The iWork ’09 applications that are currently installed have considerably more functionality than the new (rewritten) applications that prompt those update notices. You do not have to update to Pages v5.5.1, Numbers 3.5, and Keynote 6.5. You should however, update the iWork '09 applications via the Apple iWork 9.3 updater.
If you want to disable the nagging update to newer software messages in Yosemite, I suggest you visit System Preferences > App Store. Check Install system data files and security updates, uncheck Download newly available updates in the background, and then uncheck Automatically check for updates.
