Unsupported Video Chronicles - Tips & Advise

Hello,
I am finally making a jump to aperture 3 and loving the video support . I would like to know how others are right now dealing with the unsupported video problem.
I am doing it the hard-way right now. I have around 400-500 videos(Thank God that I've bought a kodak Zi8 few months ) which would be unsupported, so before building my library. I am
1. Using Sorenson squeeze to convert the files in to new format , I am confused between mp4 and m4v , but I am going ahead with m4v right now.
2. I then use Better Finder Attributes to manually change the date modified and original date since they get messed up with video conversion.
Annoying ? Yes Very much
Slow ? Yes Very Much
Alternatives ? Maybe some magical applescript , which can convert the video , use the original file as reference and copy the date modified and other metadeta to it ? Hmm....

My last advise sorenson squeeze is a piece of **. It keeps crashing and the speeds are BLOODY slow.
Visual hub on the other hands works like a charm , same quality and hasn't crashed on me once.
I have finally manged to convert all my 500 vidz to mp4 format with x264 encoding and high quality. I know close this thread

I have no idea what this means and would be grateful for any help.

    KT,
Thank you so much for your interest and response.  I think that I followed all the suggested 6 steps from the iBA user tip but to no avail.  Do you know anything about this comment by dmingo which is pasted below?
'User dmingo says this about that:
After audio tracks are placed in your book, you must 'Publish' the book from iBA (using the 'File/Publish...' menu) - that means re-entering all metadata from scratch - you can't simply import the .ibooks file into iTP. If you enter another audio clip at some time, you have to do it all again. '
To me it seems to say the video clips need to be delivered separately and one at a time.
I would be grateful for any advice

  • Mac Mini G4 Unsupported Video Format DVI to HDMI 42 Phillips 1080P LCD TV

When connecting my Mac Mini G4 to my 42" Phillips 1080P LCD TV using a DVI to HDMI cable I get a message on the TV "Unsupported Video Format" message. I can connect my PowerBook G4 using the same cable and it connects great.
One thing I have noticed is when connecting my Mini via DVI cable to my 17" LCD monitor the screen is a fated red. But using a VGA cable the screen is fine. I don't know if this is having to do anything with the issue of connecting to my LCD TV.
    Any suggestions?

Make sure the connections are good and tighten down the thumb screws on all connectors. If two monitors are giving problems with DVI, it could be there is a hardware problem with the DVI port on the mini.
Also, try starting in Safe mode (boot while holding down the shift key) and see if you get a useable screen in that case. If you still get the unsupported video format message, then that would further suggest some hardware problem with DVI.

  • Pre Lion iPhone videos show Thumbnail but can't play - new video generates Unsupported Video Format popup, no thumb but will play via quicktime

    This is really frustrating -
Over the last year I have been uploading all of my photos and occasional iPhone video to Aperture 3 (latest version all patches in place).    Aperture would recognize the video, create a thumbnale and otherwise treat it nicely.
Now, since upgrading to Lion I find that though I can "see" the old videos in their folders or projects and the associated Thunbnale, I can't play them - I either get the spinning color wheel and then nothing or Aperture will crash and report an error relating to Quicktime (sorry don't have an error code at the moment).
If I try and export a video I can - but what I get also can't be played by Quicktime - just a black screen.  When I hit Play - the scroll bar moves, but there is no sound or video.
From Final Cut Pro X, I can imoprt this exported video file and see that it appears complete - but FCPX uses it's own playback elements.
If I shoot a new video on my iPhone, I find that I can see the thumbnale in the import option of Aperture when looking at the phone, but once imported I get a Popup telling me that it is an "Unsupported Video Format" - "Do you want to open this video clip with QuickTIme Player?"   If I hit Open then the clip does play, but the thumbnale remains a black square with the warning Exclamation Point.
I have also had some issues with Lion Mail crashing when trying to play a video made on an iPhone and sent to me via email.   Seems more likley to be a Lion / Quicktime issue then an Aperture and Mail issue - but who knows.
I spent 2.5 hours of quality time with the Genius bar this morning.  We reinstalled Lion and after that the suggestion was to trash and re-install Aperture, but that would require my disc and of coruse a trip home.   Mail doesn't seem to still have the issues with iPhone movies that it had - but Aperture is still not happy.
Did as instructed and dragged Aperture 3 to the trash, did the empty trash option, restarted and reinstalled.   Then did a software update to catch the new update for Aperture and it found that.   Interestingly when I did start it up after that it DID NOT ask me for my key - so clearly some elements were left over.
Now upon retstarting Aperture 3 once again I find that I can still see my old movies (their thumbnails show up) but I still can't play them.   The new test movie is there but still generates the popup regarding it being an Unsupported Video Format.
And it's not just my iPhone.   Video sent via email from another iPhone can play as an attachment, or when dragged and dropped to the desktop, but once imported into Aperture is once again proclaimed to be an Unsupported Video Format.
Hoping someone out there knows how to resolve this....

For some reason it just started to work now. Have no idea what didn't work before.

  • Unsupported Video Card?

Hey guys I recently received my MacBook and I have just installed Windows Vista and installed Crysis to the Vista partition.
When I boot up the game it says:
    "Unsupported video card!
'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter' [vendor = 0x10de, device = 0x0863]
Continuing to run might lead to unexpected results or crashes."
^^^So that pretty much means I can't run Crysis on my MacBook? That *****

Ah okay, I have the latest MacBook.
Would a game such as CoD4 run for example? Not that I really want to play lots of games on my Mac (I have my PS3 for that), I'm just generally wondering.

  • Unsupported Video Signal

Have a 47TL515 3D tv.  Plugged in a VHS player and it shows the picture fine, but there is an error message on the bottom in a big grey box that reads "Unsupported Video Signal".  How do I get rid of the box?  It won't go away.

So is this forum to post our issues with new Toshiba products? Do Toshiba support employees even monitor or use this site? Or is it just a place for digruntled users to cry on each others shoulders?
I may have found a temporary fix to my problem. Was trying to watch another VHS tape with this annoying "Unsupported Video Signal" box on the screen and decided I couldn't take it anymore. I switched the RCA adapter I had plugged into Video 2 with the adapter plugged into Video 1. Switched input so now I was viewing VHS playback on Video 1. Same problem. Big gray Unsupported Video Signal box still there. So I switched them back, so VHS is now plugged into RCA plug adapter in Video 2 slot. All of a sudden the big gray box is gone! And it stayed that way! Was able to enjoy a whole movie without it coming back. And now, a day later, after shutting everything down last night and turning it back on tonight, the big gray box is still missing. Yay!
    Thanks for nothing Toshiba.

  • Since upgrading to Lion, video from 7D shows as unsupported video format

Video from my Canon 7D that used to work fine in Aperture now is showing as unsupported video format can anyone suggest a fix? Is this a Lion, Aperture, or Canon issue?

What's the format of your video? That will give you a hint as to what plugin is failing (or missing).
If you don't know, what's the URL of your site - it shouldn't take long for someone to work out the specifics.

  • Strange "Unsupported Video Format" Behavior

    Hi all;
I just bought my TV 2 days ago and made the set up as the manual said. It is connected to my Philips 1080p HDTV (42PFL7432D/37) via HDMI plus there's a PlayStation3 also connected via HDMI. There are no HDMI switchers as the TV has 3 HDMI ports.
Normally I turn on the HDMI source before the TV, but with my TV I get "+unsupported video format+" message using the HDMI cable. With component cables I have no problems so far.
Last night I was downloading a demo from the PlayStation Network and tried the TV and it was working (via HDMI) - no messages. Rented "+No Reservations+" and saw it with no problems.
For some reason if I want to use the TV via HDMI, I have to turn on the PS3 first, select it from the TV's menu, then from TV's menu again select the port to which the TV connects.
I have already contacted Philips via e-mail regarding this issue as I saw on their support page they where having the same problem with some DirectTV H20-100 satellite boxes connected to the TV via HDMI. Probably will have an answer in 24 hrs.
I've read a lot of threads posted here of people having issues with the update. I echo their voices.
    Have anyone noticed this?
I'll keep you updated with Philip's response.

    Hi David,
I called Philips' Customer Service and after a long conversation going over on what I've already tried, they decided to schedule a service appointment. The technician came over and told me he had the exact same problem with customer's 5... in. Philips TV. He took the unit with him because he has to disassemble the TV in order to get card's (I don't know if it is Video or HDMI) number as there are like 5 different ones.
For me it makes sense this is a faulty card issue because before calling customer service I connected the TV and the PS3 to another Philip TV I have (32PF9630A/37) using the HDMI ports and it worked fine.
I'm supposed to have the unit back this week. I'll keep you updated.
You might try calling Philips. They gave a service reference code that if they would like to have in order to track a "faulty card" shipment, I can give it to you.

  • "unsupported video format" - Aperture 3

After importing my iPhoto library into Aperture 3, many of my older mpeg video clips appear with an "unsupported video format" image. These same video clips play just fine within iPhoto. To make things worse, Aperture doesn't seem to offer any way to play the files with an external application, nor does it allow me to export or drag & drop the files to my desktop.
I'm hoping and assuming that this is some small glitch that will be corrected soon, but if by some chance it's not, I need to know now before I
    1) decide whether to purchase Aperture 3 and
    2) delete my old iPhoto library
What are the chances of getting an official answer from Apple before **** freezes over? I don't mean to sound bitter, but after waiting for 2 whole years for an Aperture update I'm more than a bit leery of Apple's level of support for the product.

"Here's the work around that I used:"
Thanks, that was really nice of you to provide this workaround. Unfortunately, I have dozens - maybe hundreds of these video clips scattered across hundreds of photo albums. So it would not be very practical to find, convert, edit metadata, and reimport all of these. That's just way too much trouble.
"No idea why Apple did not chose to support all formats. I thought that quicktime provided the video engine. "
I totally understand where this is coming from. Aperture doesn't just organize and play these files. It's letting you edit and embed them in slideshows, hence the higher standard. As I mentioned previously, I totally understand if I can't edit or create slideshows with these older files, but at the bare minimum I need Aperture to display their thumbnails, allow me to play them (external player ok), and allow me to drag and drop to copy them to the desktop or an external drive when desired.
I suspect they thought of this but decided against the inconsistent user experience some might encounter. I care more about keeping all my files together than about the inconsistent experience.
If they wanted to handle this elegantly, Aperture could display an incompatible file notice only when attempting to edit these...

  • Unsupported Video Format

I have 3.1.3 version of Aperture and am running Lion. Since the upgrade movies I shoot on the iPhone are showing in Aperture as "Unsupported Video Format" and I cannot view them.
Sure one would think that and Apple phone and Apple software would work properly on an Apple computer.
I have an iMac 3.3ghz with 4mb ram

Yep I also fixed the problem by uninstalling 3ivx.
    See: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15714152#15714152
Basically remove the 3ivx component from /Library/Quicktime then restart the machine. Recently imported movies from my iPhone had to be reimported to work, but after these steps the movies are working normally again!
The annoying part was that I needed to delete the videos and re-import into Aperture to get them to play.
Everything seems to work OK now.

  • Unsupported Video Format (AC3)

    Hi there!
I have a lots of videos which is converted from MTS files to MP4, with help of Turbo.264HD. I was trying to put my videos in to Aperture 3, most of files was not any problem, but for approximately 10% of all files I get black image with text "Unsupported Video Format (AC3)". I was trying to reconvert these files, but still the same problem.
Is it any one who has the same problem?
All videos is from Canon HD cam, I used the same preferences for all video files.

    vazandrew wrote:
Is this when you are trying to stream content from your computer (home-sharing)? Is the movie file in a compatible format?
no. it is a message appearing on the TV when the OP connects the appletv.

  • Re: "Unsupported Video Signal" when connected to TV.

i have a toshiba regza, model 42rv530u. i am getting the same unsupported video when i try to play games or some videos. i have made sure my resolution is set with the tv but noticed my video card is not reconnizeing the tv , has it listed as unidentafied monitor. i had down loaded a driver for a older pc to this tv a few yrs back . the pc i'm hook up to now is new. can anyone point me to a down load for this tv .  Thx

I think the problem is the RESOLUTION of the TV when used as a monitor. My first computer connected had the highest resolution of 1280x1024, 60Hz -- but the options I was able to get from the Toshiba TV were different.
Strangely enough, if I connect a normal 2nd monitor, I will get an image on the Toshiba TV and can use it as a computer monitor. But if I disconnect that 2nd monitor it goes back to saying: 'Unsupported video signal.'
I wish there was a way to set the pc/computer resolution for the Toshiba TV through it's menu...
Still can't get it to work by itself.

  • Unsupported Video Signal Help

I'm trying to set up and old Nintendo to my TV. It doesn't have regular AV cable ports, but it has composite cable ports. There is no input as 'AV', but it gas this thing called 'ColorStream HD'. I've tried to set it up through that, but the screen says 'Unsupported Video Signal'. I've tried to set it up with my Wii with the AV cables and it worked, but its like a black and white screen with little to no sound. So the video for the Wii works, but not my NES. Is there something that I'm doing wrong, or is my old console too old to be supported by new TV?

It won't work. ColorStream HD is expecting a HD signal of at least 480p and you're trying to send an SD signal from a composite output. You will have to try to find some type of adapter instead, perhaps like this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Tmvel-HDMI2RCACVS-Composite-Converter-Blue-Ray/dp/B009A6PJKQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF...
Here's a little more info on ColorStream:
