Unwanted delay

In my program I have 3 analog inputs with a DAQ USB module.
I want to log this analog values by writing them to a .lvm file.
The problem is that I want to log every 1 or 10 or ... seconds. So I put in a loop with a delay.
But this makes the program slow, especially when I want to stop the program.
How can I solve this problem?

Hi Peira,
Check out the attached VI. I have done a simulation of what you want using an event structure. I guess this will help you.

  • Finite pulse-train generation with variable time lapses with NiDAQmx

Being a newby in Labview and NiDAQmx, I find it tedious to program the application I need to drive my experiment : I want to generate a finite pulse train, with variable delays between two consecutive pulses. These delays are known before the experiment starts, summurized in a table (element 0 decribes the time lapse between pulse 0 and 1, element 1 between pulse 1 and 2 ...). I would like to use NiDAQmx to program this. I had in mind the following scheme : two counters, first one counting time between pulses, the second one generating the pulse once "counter one" has finished his job. What I don't figure out is how to reprogram "counter one"'s register, without introducing unwanted delays in the time
sequence of my finite pulse train. I am using a 6052E DAQ, and I want to generate delays in a same pulse train ranging from 1 microsecond up to 20 seconds.
Thank you for ANY help :-)

    Hello !
Well, I will try to be more precise while answering your questions. But first let me thank you very much for your help : your comments, questions and remarks are very helpful to help me shape my project, as you shed light on particular problems I strictly had no idea before !
    1) I can certainly get on well with digital output as my flash device is triggered by TTL signals.
    2) The lighting device is home-made, and I think it will be better for my needs to produce light throughout the duration of the input at the “on” level. In any case it will be driven by TTL-like signals. The intensity is manually set, so no analog control is required.
    3) I will use Labview to collect the experimental data. The signal will be sampled during the light pulse : the rising edge of the TTL-like output signal will trigger both the lighting device and the data acquisition, the latter being stopped on the falling edge. The light emitted by the lighting device is called a “probe” for the following reasons : the photons are absorbed by the photosynthetic sample and “immediately” re-emitted at a longer wavelength. A photodiode acts as a signal transducer, and I monitor the intensity of this fluorescence. Knowing precisely when light pulses occurred after the initial start excitation (which is also a brief pulse of light but of a much greater intensity than the “probe” light) and the intensity of light emitted during theses pulses, I can reconstruct the kinetic of fluorescence decay. This kinetic reflects the behaviour of my biological sample. Thus no continuous acquisition is required as between two light pulses there is nothing to monitor. And all the half-time reaction are timed relative to the same “start” excitation as they reflect a jump sequence of an electron extracted by the “start” excitation : first jumps are quick ones (half-time in the 10 s range) and last jumps are slow ones (half-time in the 1 s range). With respect to these kinetics, I would like a 1 s precision. If not achievable, I could skip the quickest jump (but it would be a pity) and focus on the second one which has a 10 ms half-time reaction and a 100 s precision would then be enough. But as we say in French : “Qui peut le plus, peut le moins !” (roughly meaning that when you can achieve the best, you easily can do the least). This precision relates to the position of one flash with respect to the others. I don’t need to be very precise on the duration of each individual light pulse : a typical value is 100 s duration, but I can get on well with 90 s or 110 s, my data being an average of the light intensity emitted during the light pulse). All I want to know precisely is when it is fired.
    4) Concerning the hardware, I already have a NI 6052E DAQ board, and unfortunately my laboratory cannot allow me to spend more money on this. I also have a fast acquisition board (IMTEC T3012) I intended to use to acquire my photodiode signal in place of the 6052E A/D converter. It has an old Labview driver, and I managed to upgrade it to suit my needs. It has an onboard segmented memory and can keep track precisely (it has a 60 MHz sample clock) of a trigger event. I am wondering if I can overcome the timing precision issue with this board, knowing that I strictly don’t care that flash n1 is triggered at (t0 + 10 s) or (t0 + 11 s), provided that I know it, allowing me to place precisely my data point on the time scale. I can program the number of memory segments (i.e. the number of light pulses) and each one is filled with data coming from the photodiode upon receiving the rising edge triggering the light pulse. The precise date at which each triggered is received is stored in the board memory, allowing time reconstruction.
I do hope this is much clearer than my previous attempts ! Believe me, it is quite hard to leave biology for a while and enter the cryptic world of data acquisition !

  • Synconizing Sound Files during Playback

I'm trying to create a drumbox with multiple looped sound
tracks. The user will have the ability to turn on and off sounds
(e.g. hi-hat, snare drum, bass drum, etc). I've figured out how to
start and stop sounds, loop them, and remove any unwanted delay
between loops, but I can't figure out how to synchronize the files
to one another. For example, if track 1 is playing and I turn track
2 on, I either want it to wait until track 1 is ready to start the
next loop, or for track 2 to start at the position Track 1 is
already at, so they are synchronized together.
Any idea how to do this?
    Dave

check the properties and methods of the sound class. in
particular, the position property, the onSoundComplete method and
the start method and its parameters.

  • Nokia 700 not receiving SMS until power cycled

I have not had any replies to a lot of SMS messages for a few days. Then I turned the phone off and back on and a load of messages were delivered within a few minutes.
However I had been using the phone for phone calls throughout that time.
    It sounds like a bug...
It is latest firmware and on Vodafone.

My Vodafone SIM card is brand new.
Looking at the above post, it does sound like a bug.
This explanation was posted in usenet and is very interesting:
Most people are aware that it is store and forward in that the message
doesn't go from your mobile to the destination one but rather via
something akin to a post office (the SMSC) which works out how to
deliver it to the destination mobile,  delivers it if it can and if not
holds it until it can deliver it.
As ever, the devil is in the detail, first of all deliveries to
destination mobiles are not universally successful (1% or so seem to
fail even if you know the mobile is available and has full signal) and
in general (although not always) SMSCs have a timer based retry to get
around that,  but sometimes the error specifies that the mobile is
really not there and hence the SMSC needs to set what is known as the
Message Waiting Data (MWD) in the Home Location Register (HLR) (the
database in the network that is always queried for your profile and
settings when you come into service in a new area).
When you next appear in a new area,  the Visited Location Register (VLR
    - the local database at your new location,  generally controls roughly
100 cell sites or so) queries the HLR for your details and this query is
meant to cause the HLR to Alert the SMSC that you have appeared and to
make a new attempt to deliver the messages.
However, notice the occurrence of "new" area - if you hadn't actually
left the area and there was just a routing issue or a momentary loss of
signal then it can be hours (or potentially days) until a regular update
to the HLR occurs and you'll get your messages.
Now, also, all of these things have addresses in the network that need
to be configured and routed correctly,  and if 99%+ of the traffic is
successful (as it goes down a delivery route that works right) then it's
often very difficult for the networks to track down (particularly if it
only causes an unwanted delay and they get their revenue eventually anyway).
Of course, it could also be a phone bug that tries to say to the SMSC
"not right now",  but actually comes out with something like "my memory
is full and I'll tell you when I have space" (and it never does the the
    latter).
None of that has anything to do with data and BB services though - data
is another can of worms that is very much a case of standards by committee.
I wonder if a phone firmware bug can cause this network behaviour?

  • SuspendHistory breaks activeHistoryState

    Hi,
I've found that when you try to get the activeHistoryState after a suspendHistory call, you get the wrong one, namely the previous - e.g.
    var doc = app.activeDocument;
    $.writeln(doc.activeHistoryState); // [HistoryState DemoFile.jpg]
    doc.suspendHistory ("TEST", "doc.activeLayer.name = 'Something'; doc.activeLayer.name = 'SomethingElse';");
    $.writeln(doc.activeHistoryState); // [HistoryState DemoFile.jpg]
    // shouldn't be [HistoryState TEST] ?
Why is it this way? Any workaround?
I've also tried using doc.historyStates.getByName('TEST'); but fires an error - it seems like the state hasn't been created.
Any help is really appreciated, thank you!

    www.cs-extensions.com

    FYI,
    Michel Mariani suggested this workaround:
    var doc = app.activeDocument;
    $.writeln(doc.activeHistoryState); // [HistoryState DemoFile.jpg]
    doc.suspendHistory ("TEST", "doc.activeLayer.name = 'Something'; doc.activeLayer.name = 'SomethingElse';");
    app.refresh();
    $.writeln(doc.activeHistoryState); // [HistoryState TEST]
It adds the usual, unwanted delay app.refresh adds, but at least the history state is the right one. Thanks Michel!

  • Confusing multiplier behavioral simulation

    Hi all,
I'm confused by this behavioral simulation. What I observe is that when I register the output of a constant coefficient multiplier IP and use it as input to a second constant coefficient multiplier IP that on the rising edge of the clock when the data is output from the second multiplier there is an extra value that is asserted for a handful of picoseconds before the value which is correct. This does not happen if I feed the second multiplier input directly from the test bench stimulus. I've attached an image showing the behavioral simulation in both cases and also attached the verilog which corresponds to the first and second simulation. I hope this is easy for you to interpret. I think that if this was a functional synthesis simulation I would interpret this as meaning that the data is not valid for a number of picoseconds after the rising edge of the clock but as this is a behavioral simulation this is confusing to me.
I'm trying to implement an IIR filter and am having trouble with the pipelines on the scond multiplier which I need to meet timing causing an unwanted delay. I don't know if anyone else has experience with this headache.. but it is the topic for a different post. I don't know where the extra value comes from in the simulation, as a work around I have tried to grab the data on the falling edge of the clock signal instead of the rising edge but this adds complexity which I do not want. Does anybody know why Code A in my attachments produces this extra value on the rising edge of the clock?
    Thanks,
    Sam

You didn't say which tools or parts you are using.  However, it is typical for the simulation models of IP cores to have delays in them, and if you generate structural models they are almost guaranteed to have delays.  However I don't see why this should be an issue.  In real hardware the actual delays from clock to output will have even more delay and probably more skew between bits than what you see in your behavioral sim.  If you are not seeing the correct data when you use the rising clock edge, that would be puzzling.  i.e. the intermediate value should appear on the output of the multiplier only after the rising edge (be a delta delay) so any synchronous process should capture the value from just before the clock edge and the intermediate value would not be an issue (as it should not be in the real hardware).

  • Skype and Vonage Together - Problems?

    Hello,
I currently have Vonage as my "land line" and it has a router hooked up to my cable modem.  I'm interested in adding a Skype phone to my home, which involves adding a new Skype router to my cable modem.
Is there a problem running a Skype router and a Vonage router off the same cable modem?  Are there any conflicts, or do they just operate independently?
    Thanks!
    Matt

Not that I'm aware of.  You'd have to treat the situation as if you didn't have multiple inputs on that device.  1.  Joining inputs or separating them using an analog/physical toggle/patch.2,  Joining inputs or separating them using additional software like Virtual audio cable though this can add unwanted delays.

  • Skype and Audio Interface problems

I am using skype with a usb audio interface for muiltple microphones.  The problem is skype will only recongnize one microphone port, instead of all of the microphone ports in the interface.  Is there a work around for this?

  • Three UK no cyan update yet why

I have a Lumia 1020 bought from a cancelled contract I had due to very very poor signal. The phone is unlocked now but not debranded.
Three are totally unresponsive in everyone's questions as to why they haven't released 8.1 cyan update. All other UK providers and country variant have been cleared and released for 1020.
question is can one of your service centres flash my phone to country variant to avoid these unwanted delays ??

In the Nokia Software Recovery Tool, what is your 7-letter code (Nokia Product Code)? No Windows computer or USB: The same code is printed on your phone. That code determines your firmware variant which determines your current version. We can check together whether you have the correct variant, only with that code.

  • Little thought about the Leopard

Well first it is quite fancy, but I found out some imperfection.
    1. Sometimes when I switch windows, say between iTunes and Safari, I could see the window become messed up, totally "cracked" for less than a second.
    2. Before in tiger, no matter what software I am loading and using, how much memory I have taken up, the music played by iTunes will forever plays smoothly with no unwanted delay or stopping. But now in leopard it's not. I already encountered a couple times the music stopped for a second when I open a few safari windows.
usually these things are very normal in ms windows. I fear that leopard will turn into something like that.
I don't know, I am a little disappointed with Apple this time.
They don't have to be so hurry I guess

I wonder if this is a RAM issue you're having?
Leopard has a lot going on and it looks like you've got 1GB? I don't suggest any of my users run OS X 10.4 or 10.5 with less than 2GB.
I've been able to have Mail, Address Book, Calendar, Safari, Firefox, iChat, Preview and iTunes open and play a movie in iTunes while switching between 8 different spaces and I don't notice a single pause or hiccup. That's on the very first Intel Mac, the 2GHz iMac with 2GB RAM.

  • Unwanted time delay

I am trying to control the motion of a stepper motor using LabView 8.0.  I have had success controlling it with the terminal that comes with the motor, however I would like to have an end-user friendly interface.  I have written a vi that works fine, with the exception of one problem.  When I command the motor to make a move, there is a delay of about 10 seconds before the motor actually moves.  Attached to the boolean control is an indicator light which remains on after I click the button, and it stays on for about 10 seconds before the motor makes its scheduled move.  I am using stacked sequence loops with five frames (one for acceleration, velocity, position, deceleration, and the command to begin the move).  I do not believe it is a CPU issue, since the terminal is able to control the motor with instantaneous results.  Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to eliminate this time delay? Thanks in advance for any help.
    Tom

    Tom,
After looking over the code for a bit, I noticed that there
are several ActiveX methods that get called every time the while loop iterates,
regardless of the functionality needed.  The
following commands are sent every time the while loop iterates:
    TDX
    PF 7
    ST
    SH
The other commands are not called every time the loop
iterates because of the case structures.
They are called only when needed.
ActiveX is by nature slow.  You
are communicating between programs and then communicating from one program to
    an external device.  Conceivably, all
four of those commands could have to execute after the button is pressed to
move the motor and before the movement code begins.  Try manipulating your code so that ActiveX
methods are called at a minimum.
Also, for curiosity’s sake, what is your setup here?  I haven’t encountered someone doing motion
control in LabVIEW through ActiveX before.  What hardware are you talking to?  What are you communicating with through
    ActiveX?
    Thanks,
    Luke H

  • Unwanted Key Repeating

I have a problem. My iBook keyboard is prone to key repeating. Unwanted key repitions or strokes. Examples: "Foor" instead of "for," "iin" instead of "in" etc. Now, I know I'm not the greatest typist around, but I NEVER had this happen with my PB 12 inch G4. Of course, its one really redeeming feature was its keyboard. Responsive but not overly responsive.
Here are my system settings for my keyboard:
    "Key Repeat Rate: Slow"
    Delay Until Repeat: Long."
Are there other settings I should use or anything else I can tweak? I do love my iBook G4 14 inch much better than my Little Al, but Lil Al sure had a nicer keyboard!

Try resetting the pram, that may help [restart
holding apple option+PR.] Also consider a bluetooth
keyboard if you have to type a lot it sure's handy!
    Thanks for your reply.
I have tried resetting PRAM. Might retry it again.

  • Unwanted 'Shared Folders'

This is what I'm seeing inside /usr/bin/cyrus/admin/:
    Other Users/imapUser1
    Other Users/imapUser2
    Other Users/imapUser##, etc
    Shared Folders/._-akstcmydomainmnsdgs (\HasNoChildren)
    Shared Folders/Deleted Messages (\HasNoChildren)
    Shared Folders/Drafts (\HasNoChildren)
    Shared Folders/Sent Messages (\HasNoChildren)
I found a thread from '06 where someone discovered that the problem happens when a group name is the same as a user name. When he changed the short group name, the problem went away. Sure enough, I realized I did have a group name with the same short name as an (admin) user. However when I changed the short group name and restarted mail service, these unwanted shared folders did not go away.
On a possibly related note, I have also found the same stuff inside /var/spool/imap:
    /var/spool/imap/^_-akstcmydomainmnsdgs
    /var/spool/imap/Deleted Messages
    /var/spool/imap/Drafts
    /var/spool/imap/Junk E-mail

    /var/spool/imap/user/user1
    /var/spool/imap/user/user2
    /var/spool/imap/user/user3
    etc
My imap users are seeing these shared folders in their mailbox, and I don't want them to. I cannot delete these shared folders using an email client. What is the best way to delete them? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
    Xserve   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

ok pterobyte heres the log entries and the header part of messages causing the problem. At the moment the reason the 2 shared boxes are showing up repeatedly is cause there in my queue so qmgr is trying to send them, it creates the error in the log and bingo the shared box appears. The mail DID NOT come from in house as the header snippets will show. (i pulled both raw email files from the /var/spool/postfix/deferred/ to examine) It appears and I'm only guessing cause I'm no expert but someone from the outside is trying to relay a virus/spam through my smtp with some sort of back door in the coding of the from header. Both e-mails in the queue look like spam and have a MIME attach that looks virus like.
