Update MySQL & PHP Version

I have a Mac Mini that I am using as a server and I can't figure out how to go about updating the MySQL & PHP that is controlled by the ServerAdmin app. Any ideas?

I ran an install of 10.4.4. The update ran with no problems.

Trouble updating MySQL to newer version

I'm trying to update MySQL from the factory installed 5.0.82 to a more recent 5.1.40.
Factory installed into /usr/bin
The new version is in /usr/local/mysql
I'd like to have the new version of MySQL access (or use) the old data file... but it's not easy for me to tell where this datadir variable is being set for both the old & new MySQLs.
Server Admin has tools to monitor and lightly configure the factory installation. Is there a way to tell it to now monitor the newer version? Or, somehow tie it to the newer version? Or must we just remove the MySQL Service from Server Admin completely?

First off, are you referring to MySQL server or client?
but it's not easy for me to tell where this datadir variable is being set for both the old & new MySQLs.
By default (unless you've compiled your own MySQL with different settings), MySQL will read its settings from /etc/my.cnf, so wherever that file tells it to store its databases is where it's going to go.
This does mean that if you update the mysqld (server) binary then it's going to look for the same databases, with whatever potential issues that may bring.

Stopping/starting MySQL is done through launchd - Server Admin will update /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.mysql.mysqld.plist to reflect whether it should start the daemon or not. That file includes the path to the binary that launchd will launch. If you change that to your own binary then LaunchD/Server Admin should start/stop your version rather than Apple's.
Beware, though, that this may not carry through for other Server Admin tasks beyond stopping/starting the server, and that this file may get overwritten/updated by a future software update, so be prepared to make those changes again, or decouple yourself completely from Server Admin and just use your own skills to administer the server.

FCKeditor PHP & updating MYSql

I am having problem figuring out how to update MYSQL with the
changes I
make in FCKeditor. I have done it in asp but I am stumped
with php.
The FCKeditor directions say to enter code like

After folling directions then I added one line as shown below

Then I added a text field, ran the wizard and changed the

I am trying to update iMovie to version 9.0.8

I am trying to complete the update to iMovie version 9.0.8 on Mountain Lion.
The problem is that in my country the available bandwidth is not good and the download from the App Store is so slow that the download takes 16 to 20 hours.
When the download reaches the high 90% mark the Appstore reports that the downbload has failed and I have to start all over again.
This has happened three times now, and I have given up on the App store.
I navigated to the Apple Download site and downloaded the file without any problems. Like we all used to do prior to Mointain Lion.
It took approx 8 hours but it downloaded fine.
The problem is when I try and install the app from this file I get the following error.

The version of iMovie installed on this Mac must be updated through the Mac App Store. Check the Mac App Store to see if an update is available.
Question: Please tell me there is a way to overcome this Alert and force the file to install.
The use of the App Store for updates to the MAC on Mountain Lion is a disaster in my opinion.
More often than not the App Store insists that new updates are available despite the fact that you have just completed installing the very same updated versions.
I hope someone at Apple is listening bercause this new method of update delivery is not working for a lot of people.

In trying to update itunes to version 10.7 I get messages that older versions of "Bonjour" and "Apple Software update" cannot be removed and so the update fails. Itunes works well on my old ipod nano but not on my new ipod touch? Any ideas

Does anyone know how to update/recompile PHP to include IMAP?

I've just installed phplist (http://www.phplist.com/), which is a newsletter mailer based on php. Some of the features require that IMAP be installed with the php installation. Evidently Apple's OSX install does not include IMAP in PHP by default, but presumably IMAP can be added if PHP is recompiled. (See http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.imap.php). I was planning on updating PHP using Alex's very helpful tutorial, available at http://osx.topicdesk.com/content/category/4/18/62/, and at the same time adding IMAP.
Altho Alex does not touch on IMAP in his tutorial, I believe that to includ IMAP in the PHP installation, the configuration string must include "--with-imap-ssl=/sw --with-imap=/usr/share/c-client", or something similar. In any event, it seems that "c-client" does not live in /usr/share nor anywhere on my system, so I have not attempted an installation so far.
Does anyone know how to update/recompile PHP to include IMAP? And if "c-client" is required, how do I intall that first?

Disregard last post--that was a non-starter, but I think I have a successful installation, which I will post here as the documentation on this from php and from phplist is pretty bad:
First get and compile the c-client library, which is necessary for those wanting to run phplist:

cd imap-2006h
sudo make oxp
sudo mkdir lib

Next open /SourceCache/c-client and drag all the */.h files (including the aliases) into “include.” Then drag all the */.c files (aliases too) into “lib”.
Find “c-client.a” and change name to "libc-client.a" and place in the lib folder.
Correct permissions on lib and include.
Finally install php (cheers to Alex) as follows:

One last question, Alex: can I safely delete the SourceCache folder now that the installation is complete? MySQL & PHP

Hi,
I have created search and results pages in CS3 and have
performed a preliminary and basic search to display all records in
the table, filtered by category with success (code attached). I
would now like to allow users to search my database based on both
the category and by entering a keyword in a form field.
Can someone help with how to do code this in MySQL? If I
click on the advanced tab, in CS3, I have the option to modify the
query, and add variables, but not sure where to start. Hoping
someone else has also allowed users to search a db, on two

Oddly, when I'm in dreamweaver, select the recordset from the
server behaviors panel and just do the simple sql version (without
the and clause), and click on test, it asks me for the search
parameter and displays the record properly, but when I do the same
from the advanced tab, it's not working now, with or without the
and clause.
I've added code from both my search and results pages

Updated pages to version 5.1

I updated pages to version 5.1 on my Mac, but the old version is still running. I cannot open documents which I made on my Ipad. Please advice how I can make the new version active on my Mac.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store.

Server version is: 5.0.8
Current available seems to be : 5.5.24 community server available from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/
if I already have several databases running under 5.0.8

I wouldn't expect a problem if you update MySQL from the binaries available on mysql.com. The database files located in the /var/mysql directory won't be overwritten by the application files. The only unkown is what affect it might have on the MySQL functions in Server Admin if the update files are not installed into the same directory paths as the original installation. Make sure you backup your server before you try to upgrade MySQL so you can restore the original files if something gets broken.

That is an extremely loaded question.
On one end, it's trivial to download the latest version of MySQL and install it.
That is not the issue for most people, though. If you're hoping to get it to work with Apple's GUI tools, well you're out of luck, but you're more than welcome to run it manually, using other admin options - the same as you would on any other OS.
Then comes your data. No one can tell you what will happen to your data if you install a different version. If you have very simple database schema with a small amount of data it may just work. If you have terabytes of multi-relational database tables well, you're going to need to examine the data, the schema, and the version changes to see what you need to do (if anything) to your data.
Additionally, the data may just work but it may be slower until you perform MySQL 5.x-based optimizations - the specifics of which will, again, depends on your data.
