how can we update both parent and child records in the query

    Hello All
    Quick question about updating parent child hierarchy in OBIEE.
    As we know, OBIEE 11G allows us to create value based hierarchy by generating table creation script and insert script. In the typical example of employee dimension, the parent child relationship table will be created with the following 4 attributes:
    MEMBER_KEY, ANCESTOR_KEY, DISTANCE, IS_LEAF
    So, what if later in the years some of the employees got promoted, retired or transferred? The value based hierarchy is going to change because person 1 reports to manager 2 now instead of 1. Obviously, the records in employee dimension is going to be updated. When that happens, how to update the parent child relation table with the same information? Do we have to rerun the insert script? How do we keep the history of employee changes and hierarchy changes?
    Please advice

  • Excluding Datamember from Update in Parent-Child hierarchy

    Hello,
    I have a Parent-Child hierarchy and writeback enabled measures.
    If I make an equal allocation update on a parent element, its datamember gets the same amount as the leaf elements.
    How can I override this feature (scope and cell calulation for datamembers would not do...)?
    I mean: if I have 4 leaf members and I write on the parent element I want to see 250 on leaves - and null on DataMember -, instead of 200 on each elements (including datamember).
    I would not convert the Parent-Child to normalized hierarchy if I have any chance to switch off the datamembers.

  • Update data to upper case in parent/child tables

    Hi Gurus!
    In production we have a product table and which is being reference by many tables making it parent child relationship. By mistake, we realized that last month some product were added in lower case and now we got a request to update all these product codes to upper case so that the existing code that use these tables have no impact. Appreciate if you can give some idea on how can I update the existing data in the parent table to upper case along with the child records?

    Are the product code that you need to update what is stored in the child tables? If so, then you would need to do it in several steps, something like:
    Identify the child tables
    SELECT table_name, constraint_name

    Hi,
    Depending of the objective and the size of the tables, personally, for maintenance purposes, I preferred duplicate the parent with the new column value and duplicate the child records with this same new value. Other alternative is disable the foreign key temporarily.

    I have a requirment, something like I will be displaying some data on my jsff screen based on one Transient View Object. Whenever user clicks on Save button, I have to do following steps in my AMImpl.
    -> Preapre dynamically Parent View Object Rows based on some logic
    -> Prepare dynamically Child View object Rows and invoke insertRow method on respective child view object.
    When I say commit() First Parent ViewObject data need to be saved and then Child View object data has to be saved. I am having Parent - Child Key relation ship btw these two ViewObjects. Some how I am populating the Parent Primary key in the Child View Object. Please suggest me If there is any other alternative to this.

                I need to display hier. info in parent-child format. Any ideas on how to store parent child relationship in an ODS....I can view this format in the infoobject display screen for hierarchy...but cannot get this format to display..

    You will have to write a program to store this information in an ODS object. You will have to use /BIC/h<IO> Table to read the data and update a custom table. You will have to do some basic checks like business content or not, plan version, time dependency etc in the entry screen and then the program can read the hierarchy table in the format you want.
    I am not aware of any simpler way to populate hierarchy data into an ods object in a meaningful fashion.

  • Very  urgent- find parent-child relationship for wbs element

    Hi,
    There is a certain parent child heirachy in WBS elements.My requiremnet is to delete WBS element depending on certain field , say depending on some ""status"".If the status is active in some or any of the child then I am not suppose to delete its respective parent too. This parent-child relation can have say 5 levels.
    For this I require a logic /program which shall maintain the parent reference for that particular child whih I want/ dont want to delete.
    I am maintaining bottom- to -top approach.
    That is I shall be checking for the status of the lowest level of WBS and then  going to the highest.

  • Form acting as child in parent child reference

    Hi guys,
    I have a custom fields form.
    This form basically uses other forms in our systems information as a parent-child relationship.
    It uses FORM NAME and ID from that form name to query custom fields form i.e.
    If you go into for example a customer form, then the custom form needs to trigger that you have gone into this form, and pass to custom the form name and the primay key thats queried.
    Also if you navigate away to another form (not closing it) and navigate back it should also trigger the execute query in this other form, is this possible?
    Basically we have 500 forms and a requirement has come in to add custom fields to all these forms so createing one form that contains the custom fields and having a triggr mechanism to execute query on this was the cleanest way i could attempt to achieve this, i do not want to amend 500 forms!

    For this create global variables to store the FORM_NAME and ID, and assign to those global variables on each master forms WHEN-WINDOW-ACTIVATED Trigger. And in the WHEN-WINDOW-ACTIVATED Trigger of the child form, query the details using those global variables. and use insert into or update statements to update.

    in Action BC (Table: S_EVT_ACT) we are trying to implement the following organization based parent child picklists/LOVs for Status->Status Reason

    On UI, create new record in Account - Activities, selecting Status = "Not Achieved".
    Now when i try to select the Status Reason value, the drop down does not give me any value.
    If I set the Organization to blank on "Reason 1", then the "Reason 1" value shows up in the Status Reason drop down under Account - Activities.
    In SQL of the log file, for the Status Reason drop down, it always hard code a T1.BU_ID is null in the WHERE clause, this would explain why its blank in the dropdown
    Also as a test, If i remove all the pick map constraints for the [LN Status Reason] field (ie the only record in the pick map is [LN Status Reason] = [Value]), then the drop down works correctly (ie displaying both the values with Organization = "Org 1"), and in the SQL of the log file, instead of BU_ID is null, it has BU_ID = ? with variable binding.
    Is there a reason why it would hard code the BU_ID is null in the WHERE clause in the SQL, and how to overcome this to achieve my requirement.
    Just a further update due to character limit of the original description,
    The "Owner Organization Specifier" property on the table S_EVT_ACT is blank (not sure if its related to anything though)
    The user i'm using belongs to "Org 1" for both the employee's Organization and its Position's Organization

  • Parent child tables - how to maintain RI

    Here is my scenario:
    In our model, we have parent child relationship between tables.
    We are not sure how the parent tables are populated. If incremental update, it should be fine (assuming if needed rows will be inserted in the child table manually). If the tables are truncated and data is inserted again – that might be a problem since there exist relationship with child tables. What are the various options for handling such cases?
    Option1: cascade delete
    Option 2: ...?

    I'm not sure I understand the goal here...
    - Are you trying to design a data model? If so, wouldn't the business and data requirements tell you whether you need to truncate and reload the parent table or whether you can do an incremental load? It wouldn't seem to make sense to design a data model with no understanding of how the model is going to be used.
    - Are you trying to design a load process that works with an existing data model? If so, are you trying to design an incremental load? Or a load that involves a truncate and reload? Does the existing data model have foreign key constraints?
    Specifying the Oracle version and a bit of information about the application (i.e. is this an OLTP application, a data warehouse, something else) would probably also be helpful.

    per_jobs---------------------DimensionFor creating parent-child in BI, we need to have a separate Parent child table which consist of four columns like ancestorkey, memberkey, distance, leaf.
    From the above column i can understand the meaning like
    For Ancestorkey-->Managerid
    Memberkey------->Employeeid
    But i couldnt get with the meaning for distance column as the meaning suggest like a distance b/w the two and leaf column as the meaning suggest like a leaf member. which leaf member does it refer.

  • PDW : Hierarchy parent/child

    Hi,
    I'm working with a PDW Appliance as source and destination.
    I need to create a parent/child hierarchy.
    My child surrogate key is generated inside my dataflow, then I'm doing the initial loading of all my data minus the surrogate key for the parent column.
    I'd like to avoid to run update statements against my destination table (because of the replication) and/or have to create temp tables.
    I thought about keeping in memory (Recordset Destination) all my dataset and then doing the look up in a script component before doing the final insert in append mode but the performance are awful.
    Any idea ?

    I have also tested another option.
    Instead of performing an initial load and then look up
    I'm doing a multicast pointing to 2 RecordSet Destination.
    Both are the same except it's 2 differents object variables.
    Then in another dataflow I read both dataset and use a MergeJoin on the business key to get my parent surrogate key.
    It works but I need to compare performances with your solution.
