Update query with multiple foreign key parameters

I am trying to perform an update query on one field that uses multiple foreign key parameters from one table to update the other table. The data in all three foreign key parameter fields are not constant. Accuracy is absolutely critical. I tied this as well as other various scenarios with no success. Can anyone help?
Update A_table a
set a.rate = (
select b.rate
from B_table b
where b.id = a.id
and b.transdate = a.transdate
and b.orgnum = a.orgnum
and b.transdate = to_date('31/12/2007', 'dd/mm/yyyy')
)

I would check symbols by a user name and number of posts before calling anyone a hot shot, especially damorgon.<br><br>
Yes version matters (due to bugs and features in each version).<br>
DDL matters because of indexes and associations.<br>
Data matters because it makes a difference on how SQL can be written.<br>
Reasons why an SQL statement don't work is because we aren't looking over your shoulder at your screen.<br><br>
damorgon did leave off his list that the best place for this question is on the PL/SQL, where they will ask you similar questions in addition to your explain plan and data volumes.

  • How to save a record with null foreign key?

    Dear all,
    Most articles show non-nullable foreign keys; but now I've got a problem with nullable foreign keys.
    With this simple example: an employee has zero or one manager.
    in manager object:
    @OneToMany(cascade={CascadeType.MERGE, CascadeType.PERSIST, CascadeType.REFRESH}, mappedBy="manager")
    private Collection<Employee> employees;
    in employee object:
    @ManyToOne
    @JoinColumn(name="manager_id")
    private Manager manager;
    when updating an employee record, i may use a selectOneMenu to pass a manager id of "0", I expect toplink to save a null manager_id in the employee record; but i tries to create a new manager object of id="0" (i.e. insert a new manager record instead)
    the code i use to save an employee is like this:
    em.getTransaction().begin();
    em.merge(employee);
    em.getTransaction().commit();
    What's the correct way to save the employee record with a null manager_id column?
    Could someone help?
    Thanks a lot!
    AK

    But could you give me some pointers on how could I do
    that from the web UI level?Got it. You want to select "nothing" and then set the object reference to that. I can't help you on JSF but how do you lookup the selected object behind the scenes? If you use entityManager.(Employee.class, 0) then you should get back null if there is no Employee with id=0.

  • Update query with CL_SQL_STATEMENT class

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to execute an update query with ADBC classes in order to modify two parameters (n_doc and processed) from a row with the following instructions:
          l_con_ref = cl_sql_connection=>get_connection( 'DB_7879' ).
          l_stmt_ref = l_con_ref->create_statement( ).
         CONCATENATE 'update' gv_table ' set n_doc= ? processed = ''X'' where id_ordn = ? '  INTO l_stmt SEPARATED BY space.
          GET REFERENCE OF materialdocument INTO l_dref.
          l_stmt_ref->set_param( l_dref ).
          GET REFERENCE OF ps_zmm_mov-id_ordn INTO l_dref.
          l_stmt_ref->set_param( l_dref ).
          l_stmt_ref->execute_update( l_stmt ).
    However, I got the error ORA-0933: SQL command not properly ended. I guess this error occurs because I am trying to update two parameters with a single query since using the following CONCATENATE instruction
         CONCATENATE 'update' gv_table ' set n_doc= ? where id_ordn = ? '  INTO l_stmt SEPARATED BY space.
    results ok.
    Does anybody know if it is possible to modify two parameters with only one update query with ADBC classes?
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi Suhas,
    Based on Oracle, I see it conforms almost completely ISO/IEC 9075 ([Oracle and Standard SQL|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96540/ap_standard_sql.htm#10293])
    UPDATE seems to conform completely [UPDATE SET clause|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96540/statements_108a.htm#2087215]
    So using a comma to separate columns is true for every SQL language that conforms ISO/IEC 9075
    Sandra
    PS: of course SAP's "Open SQL" language does not conform at all

  • Table with n foreign key vs n tables or n foreign key vs 1 table?

    Hi,
    we have a scenario with n tables containing some attributes one table for one category of attribute (es: color, role, type, etc..) of a principal entity and 1 table for the principal entity with n foreign keys vs every attribute table.
    Some propose to create a unique table called attributes in which put every attribute with an attributetype for each record.
    My question is: the principal entity will have n foreign keys vs the same attribute table. Is this perfomant? which is the best solution?
    Thanks in advance.

    >
    Ask those 'Some propose' how a foreign key to the 'same attribute table' will prevent the WRONG value from being used for a column.
    1. Principal entity has a column for 'color' and a column for 'role'.
    2. There are FKs on the 'color' column and the 'role' column that both point to the 'same attribute table'
    3. Legal values for 'color' are: 1, 2, 3
    4. Legal values for 'role' are: 10, 20, 30
    What prevents someone from updating the 'color' column to a value of 20?
    Ask those 'Some propose' how your one attribute table will store attributes that are of different datatypes.
    1. 'color' uses numbers: 1, 2, 3
    2. 'type' uses strings: 'type1', 'type2', 'type3'
    3. 'holiday' uses dates: 12/25/2013, 01/01/2014
    How do your 'Some propse' plan to store ALL of those values in one column? They are likely to say they will use VARCHAR2.
    Ok - so how do you keep someone from updating 'holiday' to a value of 'type2' or a value of '3'?
    You can't easily validate the data to begin with and you can't easily prevent 'dirty' data from getting into the system.
    You also can't easily explain to ANYONE, for example new developers, how to properly use and maintain the table.
    I haven't heard you mention even ONE potential benefit to doing things the way that 'Some propose'. So - DON'T DO THAT!

  • APD using Query with multiple structures as a data source

    All,
    I want to set up an automatic process which executes a query and exports it to a shared drive as a csv file. I have tried various options , when I try to use APD to set up the extract, I get an error and this is because the query that I am trying to use has Strucutres in both rows and columns. Hence, I am unable to use this option. I tried RSCRM_BAPI, It works well, but there is an issue with scheduling this in Process chain. I created an event and scheduled this as a job to trigger after "event" as per SAP instructions, but the job does not exist and it is not possible to trigger it through the Process chain unless the variables are hard coded in the query which I do not want to do.
    Can any one tell me if there is a way to deal with APD using Query with multiple structures?
    Would really appreciate if some one can give me the right solution...
    Thanks

    Hi Tanu ,
    APD is an option but its not very good with large amount of data or hiearachies or if you have attributes in you query structure .
    One more option for this requirement is use of report program using function module RRW3_GET_QUERY_VIEW_DATA .
    This will work fine with multiple structure etc .
    There are some overheads with this FM  ex: if amount of data is too much then program will give dump .Solution for that is we call the FM in LOOP by diving amount of data need to be fetched .ex:  we can read data quarter wise.
    For using this function module what you can do is write an ABAP program (At SE38 ) .which will call this FM and then write the output into a flat file which you can save at application server (AL11) .From there other system can read it .
    To automate this whole process you can further add all the report programs into a process chain (RSPC) which can be schedule as per requirement .
    To pass input parameters you can use variants that will pass the values to the report .
    Check thi link for sample code :

    Hope this will be helpful .

    Hi,
    You can take the parameters to the select so that you will be able to create conditions over them.
    Try to use this SQL instead of your and in the discoverer workbook create the conditions and parameters:
    SELECT TO_CHAR(NVL(AV.TAX_ID,999999999),'000000000') FEID,

  • Multiple foreign keys to a single table

    Hi,
    I need to write an SQL sentence to bring a unique row formed from multiple foreign keys which are dependent on the same table. The two tables as follow:
    CREATE TABLE UNIDADMEDIDA (
    IDUNIDADMEDIDA NUMERIC(3) NOT NULL,
    DESCRIPCION VARCHAR2(128) NOT NULL,
    CONSTRAINT PKUM PRIMARY KEY(IDUNIDADMEDIDA)
    CREATE TABLE TRANSPORTE (
    IDBOLETA NUMERIC(12) NOT NULL,
    CORRELAVEHICULO NUMERIC(2) NOT NULL,
    TIPOVEHICULO NUMERIC(1),
    TIPOGASOLINA NUMERIC(1),
    CANTIDAD NUMERIC(8),
    RECORRIDOPROMEDIO NUMERIC(10,2),
    IDUMRECORRIDO NUMERIC(3),
    CONSUMOPROMEDIO NUMERIC(10,2),
    IDUMCONSUMOPROM NUMERIC(3),
    CONSUMOTOTALANUAL NUMERIC(10,2),
    IDUMCONSUMOTOT NUMERIC(3),
    CONSTRAINT PKTRANSPORT PRIMARY KEY(IDBOLETA, CORRELAVEHICULO),
    CONSTRAINT FKUMRECORRI FOREIGN KEY(IDUMRECORRIDO) REFERENCES UNIDADMEDIDA(IDUNIDADMEDIDA),
    CONSTRAINT FKUMCONSUMO FOREIGN KEY(IDUMCONSUMOPROM) REFERENCES UNIDADMEDIDA(IDUNIDADMEDIDA),
    CONSTRAINT FKUMCONSTOT FOREIGN KEY(IDUMCONSUMOTOT) REFERENCES UNIDADMEDIDA(IDUNIDADMEDIDA)
    The columns IDUMRECORRIDO, IDUMCONSUMOPROM and IDUMCONSUMOTOT depend on the table UNIDADMEDIDA (specifically from the IDUNIDADMEDIDA field). I need to bring back the description (DESCRIPCION field) from the different values stored in TRANSPORTE table.
    Thanks for your help!!!
    Mario

    Welcome to the forum!
    Have you thought about joining against the parent table three times to pick up each different description?
    SELECT  <COLUMN LIST>
    ,       UNI_A.DESCRIPCION
    ,       UNI_B.DESCRIPCION
    ,       UNI_C.DESCRIPCION
    FROM    TRANSPORTE
    JOIN    UNIDADMEDIDA    UNI_A   ON UNI_A.IDUNIDADMEDIDA = TRANPORTE.IDUMRECORRIDO
    JOIN    UNIDADMEDIDA    UNI_B   ON UNI_B.IDUNIDADMEDIDA = TRANPORTE.IDUMCONSUMOPROM
    JOIN    UNIDADMEDIDA    UNI_C   ON UNI_C.IDUNIDADMEDIDA = TRANPORTE.IDUMCONSUMOTOT
    ;It is always helpful to provide the following:
    1. Oracle version (SELECT * FROM V$VERSION)
    2. Sample data in the form of CREATE / INSERT statements.
    3. Expected output
    4. Explanation of expected output (A.K.A. "business logic")
    5. Use \ tags for #2 and #3. See FAQ (Link on top right side) for details.
    You provided #2 partially. If you provide the rest we may be able to help you even further.

  • Doubt in Firing Query with multiple opportunities UUID/IDs

    HI Folks!
    I might have simple doubt but please help me on this!
    1. I have a custom BO with association to opportunities.
    [DeploymentUnit(CustomerRelationshipManagement)] businessobject Sy_Trade {
    [AlternativeKey] [Label("Trade Id")] element tradeid : BusinessTransactionDocumentID;
    node RelatedOpportunities [0,n]{
                                  element BusinessTransactionDocumentReference : BusinessTransactionDocumentReference;
                                  element BusinessTransactionDocumentRelationshipRoleCode : BusinessTransactionDocumentRelationshipRoleCode;
                                   association RelatedOpportunity[0,1] to Opportunity;
    2. I have success fully used association and i am able to view create all the opportunities related to my custom Bo.
    ISSUE : I want a facet where i just want DISPLAY the activities and sales document assigned in the RELATED OPPORTUNITIES ( N opportunities )
    How do i query with Multiple opportunities ID and fetch the activities against it?
    Btw I want to use query in UI Designer... I have created an  advanced list pane and there i want the result list
    I hope i am clear!
    Thanks in adavance...
    Regards
    Dhruvin

    Hi Ludger,
    I have successfully displayed Related Opportunities associated with trade.( i am able to create , delete also )
    Issue : I am not able to "Display" ( i don't need to edit or create ) all the activities created against all the opportunities in a different tab.
    I tried to approaches :
    1: Query : Created a Query on Activity BO and tried to pass multiple related opportunities ( but seems not possible , please tell me any possibility to pass range of opportunity via transformation or anything? )
    2 : binding : I have a Node Related Opportunity so just tried to bind it with BO model but problem is it is displaying all the activities of first opportunity of the list...
    i think why because :
    In Data model I have created a table bind with Related Opportunities...
    now that node is 1 to N , association to opportunity 0 to 1 , hence i think it fetches only 1 opportunities activity
    should i create like below ( Or is it possible)
    Node Reltdoppts[0,1]
    association [0,N] to opportunity BO ?
    Although i strongly feel SAP should provied us two things :
    1. We need to pass range of opportunities in a query.
    2. We need to just write some absl code where i can fill the table and display it
    and also is there any possibility to create a report or something to display activities as we just want to display the activities!
    P.S : I have been getting a lot of bashing from client because some of the product restriction in cloud! i hope and wish SAP give developers free hand to develop right now its like our hands are tied to many things

  • BaseTableName blank when calling GetSchema on a query with multiple tables

    I am using ODP.NET 11.2.0.3.0 and when calling GetSchemaTable on a DataReader that contains a join the returned SchemaTable has the BaseTableName and BaseColumnName fields blank - this is different than what I see with the Oracle OLE DB Provider and with how SQL Server's native provider works. I can't find any discussion of this - is this on purpose or is it a bug? why does the available schema information vary so drastically between a single table query and a query with multiple tables joined?
    Thanks,
    Bryan Hinton

    Hi Bryan,
    I am also facing the same issue. Did u find any work around or any suggestions will be well appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Update query with prompt to input percentage

    Hi I'm just starting out with Access I need to do an update query with a prompt asking the user to enter a percentage this what i have done "ProdSellPrice+ProdSellPrice *[Enter a Percentage] and I've all so done this "[ProdSellPrice]+[ProdSellPrice]
    *[Enter a Percentage]" but still not working.

    The expression to add a percentage to a value is v*(1+(p/100)) where v is the value and p is the percentage. e.g. in the debug window:
    v = 52
    p= 10
    ? v *(1+(p/100))
     57.2
    So the SQL statement would be:
    UPDATE  tblProduct
    SET ProdSellPrice = ProdSellPrice * (1+([Enter a Percentage]/100));

  • Problem for running Update query with Chinese

    Hi all,
    I am running a web application in Lotus Domino.
    I have a Lotus Script Agent which need to update Oracle 8i Database with Chinese Character throught ODBC but i find that all characters become some strange characters.
    I got the problem only for update query.
    I have no problem for select query for getting the chinese data.
    Also, I got no problem to run the update query with chinese characters in Sqlplus.
    I also try to run the same update query which the ODBC connection is pointing to an MS Access Database. It works too.
    So the only things i leave is the Oracle ODBC driver.
    Anythings I should do for the Oracle ODBC server?
    Thanks very much.

    Hi, I checked the registry of Oracle and
    in the NLS_LANG field, the values is AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8. In the server side, I set the same.
    It should be okay, as i can retrieve the chinese content in the Oracle. Just that when i try to run a query contain chinese, such as,
    "insert into TableA values ('')". i will got some strange character inserted in the databasae.
    Could you tell me what should i do?
    Thanks a lot a lot.

  • Bundles with multiple reg key requirments

    I have a application that i dont want to install if specific previus version of that application exist, so I created a bundle with multiple reg key requirments (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Uninstall\.......).
    But that dosn't work as I expected, requeirements get red marked in agent but bundle is still available.
    If I remove all but one filter it does work as I expected, is this by design or is it a bug.
    Is there any way to work around it?
    I have tried both with 11.2.3 and 11.2.4 no diffrence
    I'm pretty sure that I have done like this in 10.3.
    /Lennart

    Shaun, thanks for your reply.
    No, more the other way around, if any of those 4 key is present the application will not be available.
    Have I misinterpreter this setting. I thought it would fire if it's a hit on 1 of those keys and make the application unavailable (and in the agent interface the key that is present on the client is red and it seems like it has fired but the application is still available.
    If I only have 1 key in the requirement it works like I want it to.
    I have the requirement like this
    Combine Filters using: or
    The following conditions should be effective for this object to be enforced:
    Registry Key exist HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{84B70C16-7032-41EE-965C-3C8D9D566CBB} = no

    Is there a way , where i can simplify the joins with tbloption and tblLabelDetail and get my o/p in optimal time.
    Regards

    I have headed towards another approach ie. using unpivot and then pivot.
    First i am converting option1-option9 into column , then doing  PIVOT to get back the same record . But issue is that when i am doing pivoting i am getting NULL values.
    My query is :
    select * into #t1  from
    select ID

    , option2
    , option3
    , option4
    , option5

    , option7
    , option8
    , option9
    from vCustomConsumer
    where sid=105
    and sessionYM = 1412
    ) SourceTable
    UNPIVOT
       optionID FOR Col IN
        (option1
    ,option2
    ,option3
    ,option4
    ,option5
    ,option6
    ,option7

    In my last query where i am using pivot, i am getting NULL values. When i check the data in temp table #t2 , it exists perfectly . But when pivoting i dont understand why it is returning most of the NULL values. I am getting data for only one column in single
    row.
    Below are some rows from result set finally obtained after pivoting :

  • Multiple foreign key joins between two tables

    Hi,
    I have a question about building a repository.
    I have a date dimension and one fact. The fact table has about 10 foreign key columns that link to the date Dimension.
    In this case should I create 10 aliases to create joins in the Physical and BMM layer or is there any other way to handle this situation.
    I am asking this question because 10 aliases can get very confusing for me at the later point of time while creating reports.
    Using OBIEE 10.1.3

    Hi
    I have a follow up question on this.
    I am okay with not seeing the different date tables under the Subject area. Even if it just shows a it as a Simple DATE Dimension I am good with it.
    In this case which is the efficient way, creating 10 aliases or creating 10 joins in the physical layer. I just figured out that we can create multiple joins between the same set of two tables but do not know how will that effect the way BI server works.
    Please help me in understanding this concept.
    thanks
