Updating Ruby/Downloading Xcode etc.

Hello. I'm inexperienced and trying to upgrade from Ruby 1.8.2 to the most current version and I am having some difficulty doing it. I downloaded the version of Xcode (2.5) that I thought I needed for OSX 10.4 from Apple Developer site and Macports as well. Can someone walk me through this, I am a bit lost and unsure of where to start.
here's a little troubleshooting info:
sudo port install ruby
---> Computing dependencies for rubyError: Unable to execute port: can't read "build.cmd": Failed to locate 'make' in path: '/opt/local/bin:/opt/local/sbin:/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin' or at its MacPorts configuration time location, did you move it?
Before reporting a bug, first run the command again with the -d flag to get complete output.

oh and I am trying to get ruby gems and all the extras that come standard with ruby 1.9- on leopard (I guess???)

You can log out of the currently logged in account by taping on the id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) and you can then log back in.
If you updated your existing account with a new email address then that shoud 'refresh' it on it
If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can redownload its content and download updates to its apps. You should be able to update an account's email address via this page : http://appleid.apple.com

After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
The DVD should look like this
Caution - Leopard does not support classic mode. So, if you currently open OS 9 apps in classic mode, you won't be able to do this if you upgrade to Leopard.

Facing error updating iPhoto and downloading xCode from Apple store

hi there,
im trying to update my iPhoto, it was downloading perfectly well for more than an hour, then when i came back to check on its' progress it has stopped downloading and the message "An error has occured" was next to it, tried to update it several times but no use, any idea why it happened? and how can i solve it?
on the other hand i'm trying to download xCode application from Apple store, it has been more than couple of hours and it's still "Waiting..." to download, it keeps freezing on "waiting", this is my third time deleting it and redownloading it again. any solutions?

Have you tried quitting the App Store program and restarting it? Have you tried restarting your computer?

I had Xcode 5, then tried to update as part of regular sw updates. It didn't update properly, I deleted, in order to just download the 6.1 version and all I get is "Xcode failed to download. Use Purchase pages to try again." How can I download Xcode?

Downloading Xcode 6.1 to iMac 10.9.5.
I've done the steps on the Terminal involving: defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
Restarted computer.
Ejected other volumes on the iMac (external HD).
When trying to download from Purchases page, it ends about 90% complete with the message "An error has occurred."

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

I'm getting an Error when trying to update or download any app from Mac App Store
Every time I try to update xCode to version 6.2 but I get this error :
The server gave an error during download: 503 Service Unavailable.
So I tried to download a random app from the App Store but I got the same error message.
So any advices ?

Sorry to hear your troubles updating and downloading apps from the Mac App Store. Based on when you were doing that, it looks like the Mac App Store was experiencing difficulties. It is not currently so you should be able to upgrade with out issues now. If you experience this in the future, look at the page below to start you on figuring out if it is something on your end or Apple’s end.

What do you mean by 'refusing from the system', if you are getting an error message then what does it say ?
For a credit card to have a chance of being accepted it needs to be registered to the same name and address (including format and spacing etc) that you have on your iTunes account, and have been issued by a bank in the country where you and your iTunes account are. If it is and if you are getting a 'declined' message then you could check with the card issuer to see if it's them that are declining it, and if not then try contacting iTunes Support (these are user-to-user forums) and see if they know why it's being declined : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
If when trying to download you are getting a message about a 'problem with a previous purchase' then that implies that iTunes wasn't able to collect the money for your last purchase. If you aren't getting the 'problem with a previous purchase' message then try logging into your account (not when trying to download something) and see if you get the 'none' option so that you can remove the card's details and be able to download updates to your apps : Change or remove your payment information from your iTunes Store account (Apple ID) - Apple Support

Do you mind taking a screenshot and pasting it here? Go to the app store to the page of an application that looks messed up (install button not showing, no description, etc). Hit the lock and home buttons on your phone (the circle one and the one on top) at the same time, just click them down together once. Your screen should flash and you will have a picture of that screen in your photos. Can you post one here? If you need help posting a picture on these forums let me know and I will guide you through.

File association error causing problems with ms/office update file download

While I was finding my way around OSX I made the error of selecting a wrong file type association when trying to install MS Office 2008. I associated their installer file with the 'Console' utility and now, when Office 2008 wants to auto-update, it downloads a file (to where, I can't tell) and then tries to install it using Console.
I understand the method of changing file associations when you have a file of the appropriate type, using file info, and Open With (tick 'Always Open With This App').... but this is not a blanket association... I have to associate it specifically with the MS Office Installation files... and because they are downloaded in the background, I can't find them to use this method.
I also understand that the settings for file associations are stored in this file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist.
But I can't edit this without knowing what I'm doing

If you like, you can move that to the desktop and the next time you run the same process, a new one will be created.
If for any reason this borks other settings, you can put the original back if you need to, but I believe you'll be fine, in which case then simply delete the original.
Don't bother editing it since you lack those skills, etc.

Downloaded Xcode 5.0.2 and Macbook is running hot

I just downloaded Xcode 5, and then the update to XCode 5.0.2, and my processor is running over 100%. As a result, my computer is running hot only while XCode is running. Can anyone give a solution why, or how to prevent this issue? Thank you much for your assistance.

I ultimately deleted XCode 5.0.2, emptied the Trash, which took 2 days, and then downloaded XCode 5.0.2 again. Unfortunately, it did not solve my issue. My CPU is currently running at 98.5%.
The processor does not run hot when XCode 5.0.2 is not running. This issue only started occuring after installing XCode 5. My CPU never ran hot while running XCode 4. I still need some suggestions on resolving this issue.

Same updates are downloading twice

I'm currently in the process of letting my friend use XCode on my Mac to do some development. He's staying at my place this weekend. At first, when he signed into the App Store with his Apple ID, the download of XCode failed. It seemed that this failure was due to my apps trying to update and killing the download somehow.
So, I signed back in to the App store and went to the "Updates" tab to update my apps. After 40 minutes of waiting for iMovie, iPhoto and some other Apps updating, we had the idea that I should just "purchase" XCode, because it is free. As we had switched accounts, I was asked to enter my payment information before downloading XCode. At that point I realized that I had already "purchased" XCode, but never downloaded it.
So, I went to the "Purchased" tab. To my suprise, there were "Update" buttons for all the apps that had just updated. Thinking that these were small updates that were recognized after the previous updates had completed, I clicked the "Update All" button. In a disheartening turn of events, a progress bar appeared again for the 1.15GB download of iMovie. It was clear that the App Store was now downloading all of the apps from scratch, for the second time.
My friend, who is a web developer, says this means the following:
1. The App store application does not send a signal from the "Updates" tab to the "Purchased" tab when an app finishes downloading. This signal would tell the Purchased tab to update its list of apps to be updated.
2. The "Updates" view and the "Purchased" view actually store the URL of the .app to be updated, rather than check for a new version upon clicking the button. This is bad because it is very cheap to check for a new version upon clicking the button, but very expensive to re-download a 1GB+ file from an old URL. This in fact costs Apple bandwidth.
3. The "Update" and "Update All" button handlers do not check if the latest version of the App has in fact already been installed. It just goes ahead and starts downloading the same version of the app again.
4. Whoever wrote the "Update" and "Purhased" tab on the App store development team is a novice who doesn't consider these scenarios that would waste the user's time and waste Apple's bandwidth. The basic rule of the day is that if you have an "Update" button, do not have it sit there with a cached URL. Re-check if the app actually needs to be download upon clicking the button, to save a meaningless 1GB+ download.

A song with an iCloud icon has not been downloaded so cannot be deleted. You can prevent it from showing on the iPhone but you can't delete a song that has not been transferred from your iTunes library or that has not been downloaded from iCloud.
Any chance some of the songs were purchased twice - once in the past from a different album and again recently?
To prevent iCloud songs from appearing on the iPhone, go to Settings > iTunes & App Store and under Show All, turn Music off.

Appstore Error Downloading Xcode 4.2

Have made many attempts at downloading Xcode 4.2 from Appstore but always fails with message "Error has occured". I've trolled tons of forums on Apple and other sites and attempted just about all remedies I could find from new DNS's, Clearing Cache, Clearing Preferences, differnt modems etc. Always comes back to the error on the screen shot. Can still download other apps from the store with no problem. Just seems to be Xcode.
01> Click to install then says "Waiting"
02> Go to "Purchases and shows it's Paused, hit resume
03> Says downlading 0.1/8G but never downloads a thing
04 Then error message

Can't update and download get stopped error = .3259?

I hace tried several times to update and download from pc to ipad and get "network timed out - check network connections, etc.
I turned off firewall in Mcafee and windows firewall but did not help. what else can i check?

YIPPEE...I figured this out and all is fine now. I found one other anti-spam notice to turn off and then it downloaded fine. My confidence is restored. Cancel this question.

STATUS_CODE_ERROR when downloading xcode

Hello,
This morning, I installed vmware on windows 8, then installed Yosemite from some website, turned it on, and everything worked like a charm, but then I got a notification for updating the OS, so I started updating Yosemite while downloading xcode, then I had to restart after updating completed and I forgot that I was downloading xcode.
After updating and restarting, I went back to AppStore to re-download xcode, when I hit install, I window shows up asking me to log in, when I try to log in, I get this error:
STATUS_CODE_ERROR
I restarted, waited, tried again, but all the same.
Am I doing something wrong? or there's something else wrong with the AppStore maybe?

I have just had this problem as well, this morning. (Apple Log-In 11-03-2015)
I have just updated the latest OSX Security Update 2015-002, which updated with a restart. This was successful on my iMac and my wife MacBook.
However there is an iMovie Update Apple Version 10.0.07 which was in the App Update application, on both iMac and MacBook.
On both I received the STATUS_CODE_ERROR.
I have signed into iTunes, iCloud and also double checked by checking my ID status with the Apple ID Management facility. They all work with my Apple ID, so why am i getting this STATUS_CODE_ERROR.
This same STATUS_CODE_ERROR shows up on my wife's MacBook, which also allows her to sign in on iCloud, iTunes and the Apple Management facility without error.
This seems strange to me as these same ID's have to be used for the iMovie update?
