Updating SAP-HR database(Oracle) directly

Hi All,
Please let me know the pros and cons of updating the SAP-HR infotypes (database tables directly in oracle through backgound). Can the user licensing cost can be reduced with this Approach.?
Regards,
J.S

Hi Dirk,
Thanks for your reply. "You can easily get access at table level by using it as source in a dataflow. This works fine for extracting data from a single table. "  I do not have experience on DS 4.2. Does the table refer to SAP Dictionary table or data base table? As I know, there is a RFC since DS 4.1. But it still extracts data from SAP ERP application table (first sap application connection, not database). Someone told me it is possible extracting data directly from database table on DS 4.2. Just wonder about it. Can you clear it for me? Thanks.

  • Update ztable from database table directly

    hi all,
can u tell me the possible ways to update a ztable from database table directly.
i mean is there anyway to update ztable whenever entry is created in database table .
i dont want to update using insert, modify statements.
points will be rewarded to all hlpful answers.

    A slightly dirty solution:
Use SAP functions for reading from CDHEADER and CDPOS tables [with enough filters such that you extract minimum records possible] to read changes to MARA table fields since last run of your program. Use this information to update your ZTABLE. I would recommend having a table maintainance generator on ZTABLE. The actual update should be by a BDC by calling transaction SM30 for ZTABLE maintainance. Now the program may be set up as a batch job running 1ce an hour. You get updates to the extent of 1 hour latency.
Alternatively, you may look if an opportunistic BADI / user Exit is there alongside MM01/02 transactions - assuming the latter are the only ones updating MARA. In this BADI you may write the code to update ZTABLE- again, look to do it by BDC call transaction sm30 to maintain ZTable. To lighten up the code -load on BADI you may simply raise a custom event and move on. You will configure a job that runs your program when that particular event is raised. This will need the 'burden' of figuring out the changes, though.
An elegant way would be to fire a MATMAS fIDOC for every change to Material, capture that and turn back the changes to ZTABLE. This will facilitate the delta load.

  • Updating SAP table field directly?

    Hi all,
The client is using SAP for 2-3 years and this will be replaced by new SAP system ( same version - 4.6c) in few months.
So as to get data from old system we are doiong conversion right now. In this client, PO creator name is very important and it drives so many things. When we will do conversion and convert old PO into the PO in the new system, the username ( created by) will be "batch user".
Client somehow want to retain the username, the original username of old POs.
For this, they are asking to update the EKKO-ERNAM field directly once the new POs are created ( we will have old PO - new PO mapping and user name).
In my view, it is not advisable to update the SAP standard table directly. But i want the opinion from you guys that what are the implications of updating field directly. Is it advisable? Is there any other way to meet this requirement?
    Thanks,
    Pratik

    Hi palaniappan,
    1. Good question and good concern !
    2. Your concern is absolytely correct.
    3. Sap does not advise to
       update SAP standard tables directly
       thru any z program
(It may stop support in future)
    4. But for your requirement,
it the po user will be "batch user",
       then
       thru some Z program,
       u may do so.
    5. BUT
       Please take care that
       a) u have signed specifications of this logic
and concern from the FUNCTIONAL CONSULTANT !
(only after that one should do)

  • Updating SAP Questions - Newbie Need Some Direction

I have some questions on updating SAP systems.
We went live on SAP back in May and we have not really updated our systems since we did the initial installation in January.  (They wanted a stable environment for testing/config).  But I would like to start updating SAP before it gets too out of data and become difficult to update.
We are running a ECC 6.0 system on Windows 2003 x64 servers with SQL 2005 databases.
They way I see it, there are 3 areas I need to update:
1.)     The OS and Database (Microsoft Service Packs and Patches)
    2.)     The SAP kernel
    3.)     SAP support packages
What is the best way to approach this?  Are my steps even correct?
I would just appreciate some input on how to approach updating SAP.  I know that lots of testing will be necessary after each update.
    Any tips?

    Hi Drew,
I think you are looking for applying support packs . SAP usually release Support pack stacks every quarter, So you can go by the latest stack or one behind. SAP prefer to go by stacks now and not by individual packs.
You can get this information from
    http://service.sap.com/sp-stacks
    Procedure will be
    1) Upgrade SAP Kernel
    2) Update SPAM/SAINT to latest level.
    3) Apply Support packs using SPAM.
If you have dual stack , update Java components using JSPAM , Now you can upgrade your Kernel using JSPAM ( In case you have dual stack ) .
Before doing Support packs , Make sure you read all notes related to  Know issues/problem with your release and also make sure you have a valid back up. So if something go wrong you can always restore
    Thanks

Its similar to DR setup, then why don't you install application at time of initial installation of DR?

  • How to join data from SAP BW and Oracle database from Webi?

    Hi,
Need to  create a Web Intelligence Report connecting to multiple data sources.
Ø SAP-BW contains the data (All units).
Ø Oracle db contains the access security data (respective units
    for the user).
Since Universe can only connect to a single data-source we have to create two universes connecting to SAP-BW and Oracle db respectively and then create a webi report to point the two universes to retrieve the equi-join data on the report.
May I know which layer I can join the data? What kind of data I can join?
Can I merge dimensions from both the data sources? What about measures?
How I can create SQL query in Webi in order to simulate the join to the two data source?
    Appreciate any info related.
    thanks and regards
    nora

    Hi Nora,
You can use Data Federator technology to federate multi-sources such as SAP BW and Oracle.
Las you just have to create a universe on the Data Federator data source and the universe isee the data source as a single source whereas it is not.
Then any clainet that consume uninverses can take advantage of this solution.

  • Date is not getting updated in SQL database.

    Hello Everyone,
Regarding my problem, i am using business connector to transfer data from SAP to SQL Server. But in BC, on executing, it shows syntax error for the date field. I used "trim" transformer to convert the date field, bt the error is still same.
Can anyone tell me which type of transformer should i use or is there any other way to do this?????
    Thanks,
    Vinita

    Hi DJ,
It's interesting that the value is showing when the page loads, that would imply that you have done everything in terms of setting the item's source up properly. Can you answer the following questions:
    1) What version of APEX are you using?
    2) Is there any 'on update' trigger logic firing that could be doing this. Does a simple update using a SQL statement directly work properly?
    3) Is this item disabled in anyway when the form is submitted (dynamic action disable for example)?
    4) Can you also just verify (although I'm pretty sure you did this already), that all the 'Source' attributes are correct (eg 'Source Used = Always...', 'Source Type = Database Column' and 'Source value or expression = [your column]')?
    Regards,
    Anthony.

  • Recreate SAP and database services in Windows

    Hi!
I'm running my sandbox in a wmware enviroment and yesterday the C: partion got corrupted and I managed to "save" the other drives where the SAP and database are installed.
Is there any way to recreate the SAP and database services in another Windows installation? (manually or automatically)
That way I don't need to reinstall the whole system....and no there is no backup or snapshot since the system is not complete.
But if I get the database to start I should be able to do a backup and then do a new installation and import the backup!?
    Thanks for any input
    rollo

    What is the database platform?
If it is SQL Server try attaching the data & log files to another instance SQL instance at the same release & patch level, if that works the database is intact so recovery should be possible.
From there rebuild your vmware box and treat the SAP install as though you are doing a 'system copy' so -
      -Install & patch Win2003
      -Install & patch SQL Server
-Install a 'blank' SAP Central Instance & update kernel
      -Attach SQL database
-Use the SAP's SQL Migration tools to prepare DB & instance
      -cross fingers & startsap
      -make a backup
Check out http://servcie.sap.com/instguides for the System Copy guide that matches your release
If that helps please reward points
    Cheers

  • SAP Adaptor for Oracle Installation Help

    Hi,
I am newbie, I am looking for help in installing SAP Adaptor for Oracle.
My Idea is to do some RFC calls to fetch data from SAP into Oracle database. I am looking for what is my starting points, what to install and configurations. If you can help me with steps to be followed is really Appreciative. I tried to search in Oracle Forums, I guess I am not able to come up with correct tags. It may be a long explanation and may be people asked this question before. If you give me links to read is good enough.
    Following is My platform:
    Oracle:
I have Oracle 10G and 11 versions. Right now I have my infrastructer ready for 10G. If I install SAP Adaptor and get things running according to what I need, and tomorrow if I upgrade Oracle to 11 version, What all the things that I Upgrade?
    Operating System:
    Unix AIX 5.3
    SAP:
    ECC 6
    Thanks In Advance,
    Raj Murthy(Bhavaraju)

    Hello,
Right now I have my infrastructer ready for 10G. If I install SAP Adaptor and get things running according to what I need, and tomorrow if I upgrade Oracle to 11 version, What all the things that I Upgrade?About all the topics relatives to SAP, you should ask them (to SAP support service) the question. For instance, is Oracle 11.2 certified for SAP ECC6 ? Or would you have to wait for a later release or patch from SAP ?
Only SAP could answer you for their own product and matrix compatibility / certification.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

what is the efficient way of updating data to database table  .
i have huge amount of data in my internal table  , how to use update statement in this case .
    1. database table having 20 fields  ,
    2. one is key field and suppose 20 th field i want to change  .
    3. I have data for only 2 fields , i.e for ( 1 st and last 20 th field ) .
i can't use update statement in loop , as it is not good practice(hits database several times ) .
do it effects all the 20 fields for  particular record .

    Hi,
Use UPDATE statement , check below description from SAP help.
UPDATE dbtab FROM TABLE itab. or UPDATE (dbtabname) FROM TABLE itab.
    Effect
Mass update of several lines in a database table. Here, the primary key for identifying the lines tobe updated and the values to be changed are taken from the lines of theinternal table itab.
The system field SY-DBCNT contains the number of updated lines,i.e. the number of lines in the internal table itab which havekey values corresponding to lines in the database table.
