Recreate SAP and database services in Windows

Hi!
I'm running my sandbox in a wmware enviroment and yesterday the C: partion got corrupted and I managed to "save" the other drives where the SAP and database are installed.
Is there any way to recreate the SAP and database services in another Windows installation? (manually or automatically)
That way I don't need to reinstall the whole system....and no there is no backup or snapshot since the system is not complete.
But if I get the database to start I should be able to do a backup and then do a new installation and import the backup!?
Thanks for any input
rollo

What is the database platform?
If it is SQL Server try attaching the data & log files to another instance SQL instance at the same release & patch level, if that works the database is intact so recovery should be possible.
From there rebuild your vmware box and treat the SAP install as though you are doing a 'system copy' so -
  -Install & patch Win2003
  -Install & patch SQL Server
  -Install a 'blank' SAP Central Instance & update kernel
  -Attach SQL database
  -Use the SAP's SQL Migration tools to prepare DB & instance
  -cross fingers & startsap
  -make a backup
Check out http://servcie.sap.com/instguides for the System Copy guide that matches your release
If that helps please reward points
Cheers

    Third, did you read and heed the installation guide, or did you just go straight to 'setup.exe'?

  • Stopping Database Service in Windows 2008

    Hi,
    Our Oracle 11g R2 Database 2 node rac runs on Windows 2008 Release 2.
    I use srvctl to stop database service instead of stopping the oracle database service on Services (services.msc).
    Even after stopping the services using srvctl, the oracle.exe will come in the process tab of Task Manager. In this case i need to invoke services.msc and stop the database services manually.
    Is there any way to stop the oracle process or the oracle services using srvctl.
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    Thanks,

    Thanks,
    YusufWhen you stop using SRVCTL, can you check the alert log file whether the instance was completely down?
    And all memory freed?
    Once you stop the service using SRVCTL, what is the memory usage from task manager for "oracle.exe"
    Check above points and post your findings.
    Also for better confirmation, check if is it ASM instance? just an crosscheck.

  • OPS$ and database services

    All,
    I'm on 10.1 Solaris with an "OPS$" (externally identified) user, through which all application logins (batch loads) are made. I also have a range of database services and would like to connect this user to a specific service based on the batch type (e.g. connections for the "london" batch would be made to the "london" service and so on).
    Connections are made via the Perl DBI but I'm also trying to test via sqlplus, which is the easiest place to start.
    The SQL*plus documentation states that the connection identifier cannot be used with an OPS$ user:
    "You cannot enter a connect_identifier if you use a default logon."
    That seems pretty final to me.
    But has anyone got any ideas or experience of how I might connect to a service with an OPS$ user? Or even register with a service once I'm logged in, for example?
    Thanks

    > I also have a range of database services and would like to connect this user to a specific
    service based on the batch type (e.g. connections for the "london" batch would be made to
    the "london" service and so on).
    Why? What problem are you solving by doing it this way?
    > But has anyone got any ideas or experience of how I might connect to a service with an
    OPS$ user?
    Not sure how you can. To connect as an OPS$ user requires a local IPC connection. You cannot use a TNS alias or set it via TWO_TASK - as then the connection would be via TCP to the listener and how can it use o/s authentication as you could be coming from anywhere across the network.
    Or am I missing something here?

  • SAP and Database Encrption on SQL Server 2005 or 2008

    Hi.  I searched as best I could for any existing threads on this topic, and could not find any, so I hope it's OK to raise a new one.
    We're running SAP ECC 6.0 on a SQL 2005 database.  Database size is around 3.3 TB, with Trans Log of about 550GB, storage is HP EVA.
    I've been asked to report on how Database Encryption would impact our systems, both from the perspective of enabling it initially and then how it would affect performance going forward.
    I've read a few White Papers,  for example:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/4ab89e84-0d01-0010-cda2-82ddc3548c65?QuickLink=index&overridelayout=true
    .. and from what I'm reading, it looks like I would want to be moving to SQL Server 2008 as a first step.  Does anyone have any experience of implementing SQL encryption for a SAP database, either in 2K5 or 2K8?
    All comments or help will be welcomed.
    Thanks

  • Starting and Stopping Services Based on Network

    Hi everyone,
    This is something I've been playing with and I'd like to share it with you and get your thoughts.
    The services I want to run at any given point depend on what network I'm attached to. For example, if I'm at home, I'll want avahi-daemon and cupsd started but I won't need iptables, since I'm behind my router's firewall. On the other hand if I'm at an internet cafe I need iptables but not the other two.
    What I've done is set up a script in /etc/NetworkManager/dispatch.d which starts services based on the UUID of each connection (extracted from that connection's file in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections.
    I'm currently using the following script:
    #!/bin/bash
    IF=$1
    STATUS=$2
    function start_service {
    for i in "$@"
    do
    if [ `/usr/bin/systemctl show "$i".service | grep -c "ActiveState=inactive"`=1 ]
    then
    /usr/bin/systemctl start "$i".service
    fi
    done
    function stop_service {
    for i in "$@"
    do
    if [ `/usr/bin/systemctl show "$i".service | grep -c "ActiveState=active"`=1 ]
    then
    /usr/bin/systemctl stop "$i".service
    fi
    done
    if [ "$IF" = "wlan0" ] && [ "$STATUS" = "up" ]; then
    UUID=`nmcli --nocheck -t --fields UUID con status`
    case $UUID in
    f5320fcd-43e2-4cc1-ba1a-9606f66b5332)
    start_service avahi-daemon cupsd
    logger "M5DKQ (home network) up"
    5bfff3c5-c349-436b-953b-90de15c854d7)
    start_service iptables
    logger "EVO (4G hotspot) up"
    40d74743-f809-41ce-821c-71f9f40b8513)
    logger "GuestAccess (office guest network) up"
    start_service iptables
    logger "Starting cafe-specific services"
    esac
    fi
    if [ "$IF" = "wlan0" ] && [ "$STATUS" = "down" ]; then
    stop_service avahi-daemon cupsd iptables
    logger "Stopped location-specific services"
    logger "wlan0 down"
    fi
    Is there a better way to do this, like maybe a systemd custom target? Is there a cleaner way to script this?

  • Database Crash in Windows

    Hi,
    I have a Database with the RDBMS software installed on the server's local C: but the database itself installed on a SAN ( via the E: )
    My system disk has crashed i.e. C: and there is no backup of this drive - so it is being replaced ! Hence I have lost my RDBMS software ( which I can reinstall ok again ) - which I presume will sort out some new registry entries. I can even reconfigure the Listener if required
    However what do I do about the Services that have been lost which effectively start / stop my Database and Database Services
    Can I simply manually recreate these services - how is this done ?
    thanks,

  • Seperating management and normal service on two different LAN interfaces

    We would like to keep administration and general service of Windows Servers seperate on two different LAN interfaces "A" and "B" (on "dual home" machines i.e. machines with two network interfaces).
    Is this feasible so that no administration can be performed on LAN Interface A, all regular Services runs over LAN Interface A and all administration has to be done over B?
    Reasoning for this is security - only certain people and machines would be granted access to the management LAN.
    Any ideas how this is best achieved?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    We can use the firewall to achieve your goal.
    Firstly, disable all the port in firewall of LAN B.
    Enable the port which used by the services in firewall of LAN B.
    After that all traffic from LAN B, which is not related to the services will be denied on the server.
    This is the general method of protecting the server on internet. (It is usually to be performed by a hardware firewall).
    Best Regards.

    Yes - the instance directory and the Windows OS including the registry
    Apart from this, do you happen to know where can I obtain the documentation which can assist me to do hardware sizing for SAP systems?
    Usually it´s done the following way:
    - the customer creates a project under http://service.sap.com/quicksizer

    I have uploaded detail.txt at below url.
    http://m.uploadedit.com/b041/1413264342685.txt
    Hi Mahesh,
    According to log file, I find the message ‘The setup100.exe.config file was not found, therefore the DTSWizard and SQLWatson app config files were not replaced’. It seems that the SQL Server setup file is not complete. Please check that if the SQL Server
    setup file is corrupted, if it is corrupted, please download it again and reinstall SQL Server 2008 R2.
    However, if there’s no problem with the setup file, please check that if there is third-party software such as anti-virus software on your computer blocking the process of SQL Server installation. In addition, make sure that you choose ‘Run as administrator’
    to launch the setup and configure SQL Server service accounts appropriately with administrator permission during the installation.
    For more details about this error, please review the following similar thread.
