Updating system with dialup
Since I am on 26.4 kbs dialup and the first time I tried Su my dialup died and I had to try again, but was locked out. So then I tried pacman -U on one file at a time I started with db-4.6.21-, this went fine but when it finished and updated the system I lost wvdial so no modem. I used the boot disk and copied the db4.5 over and got my modem back. But now I am leary and do not know if there is a certain order to update so as not to cause conflicts with the current system till everything is downloaded. Trying to download over 850MB will take me over 2 weeks to do so I must be careful or I will be right back to the beginning again. Any Ideas as to the order of the files or is there a way to download parts of packets and combine them ?? Thanks
I successfully ran Arch on dialup for a couple years. I'm not certain what problem you have exactly, but here's some tips:
* pacman -Suw will download all the packages without installing them. pacman -Sw packagename will download a specific package without installing it
* pacman supports download resume, so if your connection crashes you should be able to start over where you left off.
- if this doesn't work: try a different mirror OR try using wget as your downloader
* trickle is a neat program that allows you to limit pacman to 1k per second so it runs in the background while you browse. This still takes up a 3rd of your bandwidth, but it does allow you to be semi functional.

After recent updates, selecting with mouse in GTK3 apps failing
I can't pin this problem down, but it maybe seems to affect only GTK3 applications such as Bluefish, SpaceFM, Remmina, etc.
After a while, I can't use a mouse drag to select text - the cursor just stays put. However, double-left clicking can still select all the text.
I'm using a fully updated system with the GTK3 theme package: clearlooks-phenix-gtk-theme-git 3.0.15.0.g8ed3afb-1
The problem started 2 - 3 days ago I reckon.
Hope that somebody else has a better idea about what might be going on!
Edit: PS: Restarting the applications makes things work as expected again - for a while.

I've just setup a new Windows 8.1 system and added to my SCCM 2012 SP1 server and all is good and it pulled down all the correct Windows updates and pulls down automatically the FEP updates that are distributed from SCCM 2012 daily.
I just installed Office 2013 on this system and have activated it as necessary. The problem is that the system doesn't seem to be pulling down any of the Office 2013 updates that have distributed thru SCCM. I have other systems with
Office 2013 installed and they have pulled down Office 2013 updates in the past when I published them.
If I look at the Office 2013 updates in the SCCM console software section, I can see that for example it shows that Office 2013 SP1 (x86) is needed by one system and installed on 8 other systems and shows as downloaded and deployed.
I've restarted the new system multiple times and also tried to force a software update check from the Configuration Manager applet but nothing seems to happen.
What can I check to try and determine what the problem is?

NickYes, the 8.1 system is a member of collection where the update deployment is targeted.
Are there any specific logs I should check in the client? If I check the WindowsUpdate.log I can see messages about the machine pulling down the FEP updates but that's all it appears to be doing.
in CCM\logs, focus on the updatehandler and updatedeployment, to begin with

I cannot update from OS X 10.9.4 t0 10.9.5> Whenever I try I get the following message: File couldn't be installed error (513) and something about not having the proper permission. Under the Macintosh HD sharing and permissions settings I have customized the settings so that (Me) has read and write permission followed by the system with read and write permission, wheel and everyone have Read permissions.
I have no problems updating apps such as Adobe CC or iTunes but cannot update the operating system, can someone help me? Thanks.1. Restart the computer in safe mode. Certain caches maintained by the system will be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to start up than normal. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
When the login screen appears, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, go to Step 2.
If there's no change after taking this step, continue.

Lucreate fails with update 8 packages on system with zone
I have a Solaris 10 update 7 system with a single zone. Before installing the update 8 LU packages I was able to create a new BE without error. After adding the packages, lucreate gives the following error:

It looks like the previous uninstallation didn't go through completely and that might cause conflict during the new installation. It is recommended to remove the program manually from Control Panel and if it still fails you can try to run the standalone uninstaller from F-secure. You can refer below link for the steps:

I have recently acquired an update for my mac OX the program being the snow leopard, i have been forever inserting the disk only to have it ejected by my mac, hence, i am unable to update my system with snow leopard, what can i do, as i have just paid out money for something which
Worked like a charm and resolved my problem totally. The only issue I had is that, unlike the Computer (Mac OS). the iPad doesn't give constant visibility to what it is doing (feedback), so I wasn't initially sure it had done anything.
When I opened my emailed message with .vcf file attached, and tapped the .vcf attachment icon, I saw activity on the icon for just a few seconds, then it reverted to the original with nothing apparently happening. After about 30 seconds, the secondary menut popped up indicating the transfer of 1200 addresses would be completed, if I approved the action. Another 10 to 15 seconds then transpired before the completed Contact list appeared on the ipad. So you must be patient, if you have a large Addressbook. That's reasonable,but unexpected lack of feedback left me wondering, like so many other things on the iPad.
THank you for the assist. Apparently Apples Mac Genius people did not know this procedure, and I will pass it on to my local Apple Store Instructor.

Are permissions updated along with system updates?
I have heard that permissions are updated along with system updates and that I should use only the latest version of Disk Utility rather than the Disk Utility that is on the original Snow Leopard install disk. Is this true? In my experience, there are times when the install disk is the best choice for cleaning up a problem.
Sometimes default permissions may change with a system update. In that case there may also be an updated version of Disk Utility.
It's always best to repair permissions using the current version of Disk Utility installed in the Utilities folder. However there may be times when repairing the hard drive and permissions only can be done from an installer DVD. In any event DU relies on a database of permissions, now, rather than a built-in set of permissions. Since the database is located on the system disk that's being repaired it makes little difference whether permissions are repaired using a local copy of DU or the one on an installer DVD. -
[SOLVED]Updat Sync and Upgrade the system with pacman behind a proxy
Am brand new to archlinux having used ubuntu for over a year i felt it was time to upgrade to something that would allow me to learn linux not just use it. so far i have been able to install my system and everything works fine .. however am about to update my system with pacman (just finsihed setting up networking) and am wondering how i can make pacman work with network proxy. without which i would be unble to setup the laptop with arch any help is appreciated

Does ThinkVantage System Update work with IdeaCentre desktops?
As in the title ... does the TVSU function correctly with IdeaCentre desktops? I recently pruchased a K330 7727-3GU and receive a "no applicable packages" message before System Update finishes it's search.
If System Update does not work with IdeaCentre hardware then do we have to manuually download drivers and sw updates?Hi dcreich,
Idea systems and Think systems are two different systems with 2 different software packages.
TVSU won't work with Idea systems. Yes, you manually update drivers and packages.
TVSU is usually a little behind anyway with current updates. Updated drivers get posted to the driver page first, then they go into TVSU.
Idea systems have their own versions of power management, internet access management, and security suite.
Start, all programs, under Lenovo, you'll find the applicable utilities for the Idea systems.
Think systems have them under Thinkvantage.

During a browsing session looking for spares for garden machinery I got a message saying something was trying to upload an unsecure update to Firefox. Have scanned system with Avast and a couple of other malware programs but have no reported threats. As far as I am aware my browser is fully up to date.
This issue can be caused by the presence of leftover files in the Firefox program folder (defaults\pref) like a file firefox.js that overrides the update URL with a wrong link.<br />
Do a clean reinstall and be sure to remove the Firefox program folder.<br />

Model and actual device you are talking about?
Apple covers a pretty huge range.. If you mean extreme.. did you reset it to factory and start over.. that is always necessary when you change a network. You cannot pick up a router from one home and network and plonk it into another and have it work.. aint gonna happen.
You also need to power down any pure cable modem for 20min or so to get it to forget the old MAC address that captured the IP so the Apple ??? has a chance to work. -
Updating system time with simple operator interface
Hello,
I need to update system time on the simple OI but when I use "Get system time and date.vi". The indicator on the front panel doesn't get updated every second, there is delay of atleast 5 secs. I tried using parallel while Loop method as well but still the problem persist
Any ideas guys?

Go to Solution.See attached simple OI modified to display time and date. When I run It, the update on indicator is like this 16:21:04-->16:21:09 (delay of 5 secs).I tried in time out event as well but no sucesss.

I have a system with a K7N420 in which I had 256MB(x2) of Crucial memory. I stole on stick for a new box I was building while I waited for prices to go down. When they did I moved the second stick back to the K7N420 box. When I moved it back I also did some live updates on the drivers. Now the system takes a minimum of ten minutes to boot. At least 8 of those bedfore the USB comes up (intellimouse goes red?). When I check the system it shows that I only have 480MB of memory instead of the 512MB that is there. I boot seperatly on each card and they each register as 224MB. I have moved them from slot 0 to 1 or 2 with the same results. I upgraded to BIOS V2.8 and that didn't help. Have I introduced something ro has the board gone bad? Any suggestions? Thanks.
32mb goes to the onboard video, but the long boot problem?
Well I am thinking one of those updates is causing problems or your HD may be going bad. If you have nothing to lose but time then I suggest a clean install, SP1 and then the unified drivers 2.03.
Stay away from live update or any MSI drivers for now.
Oh and if you used BootVis from micromush that could also be causing some problems. -
MacBook Pro battery had accumulated more than a 1000 charges, and stopped functioning unexpectedly. Went and got the battery replaced. Just saw that SMC Firmware 1.6 update deals with this. Possible to get my money back?
The firmware update corrects an error that may occur, however the techs would have checked the condition of the battery prior to installing a new one. If the battery was questionable, the firmware update was really not too important.
You can check the battery condition by going to the apple, left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Power and see what it says about Cycle Count, Condition, Capacity: Condition anything but Normal needs to be checked and may need to be replaced.
The cycle count of 1,000 charge cycles is the typical life of a Lithium-Ion battery, the point at which the capacity drops to 80% of the as built capacity.

Somehow all my photos (about 16000) ended up in the iphoto trash bin...is there any way to get them back? I'm afraid the trash will get emptied and I will lose them all...Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
