Upgrade default php installation

I recently upgraded the default php installation on my mac. But it seems that the system does not see the new version, just the old one. In the terminal I type: php -v and it still gives me the old version number. I really need this new version that I installed, since I configured it with certain modules I need, any one know how I can make the new version the system default?

i seem to have a problem with the PHP installation on my MacMini server running Tiger 10.4.11... I bought the mini about two years ago, and it came with the then standard php 4.4.9 within Apache 1.3.41. Some time after than I "upgraded" php to a 5.2.2 from entropy, but then I might have been careless and didn't properly uninstall the former version -- assumed it would be simply replaced...
Now, I've got these two parallel versions, and I get the feeling there might be some conflicts in what libraries are loaded. I've got a PHP script running flawlessly on a MacBook running Leopard 10.5.6 with php 5.2.6 and Apache 2.2.9. When I try to run it on the MacMini server, some things simply stop working, like e.g.:
- $argc and $argv are not set for scripts called within apache (registerargcargv is enabled in php.ini, and $_SERVER[ "argc" ] and $_SERVER[ "argv" ] are set, but on the MacBook both variables are set "autonomously")
- the regex expression "(*ANYCRLF)" (match any kind of newline character in a regex) isn't recognized, for a regex like /(*ANYCRLF)[\\r\\n]/ (needed to clean files that may contain mixes of CR, LF and CRLF) I get an error:
preg_replace(): Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 1 in ....
I assume these have not been changed between php 5.2.2 and 5.2.6, so I can only assume there's another incompatibility somewhere.
I know the "right" (= 5.2.2) version of php is used by the Apache server -- phpinfo() reports the right configuration, and file +entropy-php.conf is included by httpd.conf and sets the right php5 module (/usr/local/php5/libphp5.so). Besides, I've tried to "clean" the installation by replacing the former php paths with links to the newer php installation directory (/usr/local/php5/), i.e.
/usr/bin/php -> /usr/local/php5/bin/php
/usr/include/php/ -> /usr/local/php5/include/php/
/usr/lib/php/ -> /usr/local/php5/lib/php/
although of course these shouldn't be needed at all. And still it doesn't work...
Does anyone have any idea what else I have to change in order for PHP to work properly? Or am I mistaken in thinking it's a conflict?
Can I actually run php5 in an Apache 1 server, or do I also have to update to Apache 2?
Would it be muuuuuuuuch easier to simply upgrade my server to Leopard, which includes newer versions of Apache and php as standards?

If your goal is to install and activate CS5 there is no need to install anything preceding it. You will only need to have the serial number from the preceding version that you upgrade from (CS3 I guess).

Upgrade defaults checking step with no web acces

We are moving over our servers between datacenters along with a Peoplesoft Upgrade, Our present peoplesoft environment is on tools 8.47.11 which cannot be brought up in web on the new x64 servers. Due to not having the web access, what are the other options of doing the upgrade defaults checking step which is part of the upgrade, with just 2-tier and database access.
Please suggest on this.

The first application (released) was created in AIR now we want our exsting customer to auto upgrade to (native installer) to support few native process.
The AIR check for the new upgrade avaiable and downloads the new (native installer) from the server but fails to run the installer.
We have used NativeProcess to run the newly downloaded native installer. The logs shows that the nativeprocess is not supported.
The supportedProfiles is set to <supportedProfiles>extendedDesktop desktop</supportedProfiles>.
We had also tried using openWithDefaultApplication() function to run the nativeinstaller but with no success.

Shared_servers=1 in default DBCA installation?

Hi all! does the default DBCA installation creates the database with shared servers and not dedicated server?
These are the parameters in this brand new installation. shares_servers =1 and dispatchers is set to something..
I have to set them to 0 and null to change it to dedicated server. Any ideas? Thanks.

I had observed the same for 10.2.0.1 databases also. I don't see the same.

HANA can't be upgraded. Initial installation is pending.

I have a question about HANA upgrade.
We use HANA DB revision 70.
When we tried to upgrade this HANA DB to revision 72, below message was appeared.
"Systems which can't be upgraded:
<SID> Initial installation is pending"
I checked the installation log and found the below message.

I used HLM with explorer; I've got an error and only "Resume" was possible, So I canceled with "X"
and now "<SID> Initial installation is pending"
If I use hdbup or hdbsetup -> option upgrade the same error "...pending"
Where/How I can cancel this pending installation? Reboot doesen't kill the pending installation!

Php installation

hello everybody,
i am getting php installation problem
i am using
1) Linux 3.0 (A.S)
2)Oracle (10g)
3)Apache2
for php as front end.
the problem is when i am installing php with oci8 it is not giving any errors that command i have given is
#./configure with-oci8=$ORACLE_HOME with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs --enable-sigchild
#make
#make install
it is not giving any errors it is installing very perfectly
then i have written one page

then i have checked in browser as http://localhost/phptest.php
here i has to show that with-oci8, but it is showing that without-oci8
what is the problem pls help me regarding this

The $ORACLE_HOME has oci.h ?
What does find $ORACLE_HOME -name 'oci.h' ? If you don't have oci.h download the oci headers from OTN or copy them from another installation.

Nope, just running:
./configure --with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs
make
make install
Works just fine(with the libphp5.so file being deleted). Problem doesn't arise until I try to add in the --with-ci8=xxx.

Upgrading to PHP 5 on Tiger and Apache 1.3

I need a little help with configuring php on my local server. I love XHTML/CSS and a bit of php, WordPress, and Rails - but I'm terrible at this server stuff. I'm petrified of screwing my configuration.
I'm running everything from the default OS X Apache server (I'm on Tiger OS X 10.4.10). I prefer using the internal server to all-in-one apps like MAMP and Locomotive. I have phpMyAdmin v2.10.2, MySQL v5.0.24a, and I think I'm running php 4.4.7 (typing php -v whilst in my document root in terminal returns version 4.4.7).
I now want to use the latest version of php. However, I can't remember if I upgraded php when I was installing MySQL etc. If not, is it possible that I installed the latest version, and I'm just not using at the moment (which could be why terminal is saying it's version 4.4.7)? Is there anyway to check for dormant versions of php or to switch over to running a different version?
If I don't have it, I need to install it. Is there an easy way of doing this via an installer? Is there anything I need to watch-out for whilst I'm attempting this feat?
Also, does Leopard bring many advancements on the server front, i.e. Apache 2, php 5, MySQL etc, which might save me some hassle if I just go through the inevitable OS upgrade sooner rather than later?

Well you could try this in terminal:
<pre style="font-family: monospaced;">locate php</pre>
It should show you nearly everything associated with php. As far as what the php version command lists this only picks up the CLI version of php not necessarily whats running on the web server. throw a php file in your webroot with the following code in it to see what the server is using:
<pre style="font-family: monospaced;"><?php phpinfo(); ?></pre>
That will give you the lowdown on what Apache is configured with. this is goign to depend on what mod_php is being used.
Generally i wouldnt upgrade anything that lives in the system as you never know if it might get overwritten or updated when a system update comes down from apple. A better practice is to install the version you want to use to /usr/local/<dirname> so that the installations are isolated and manageable.

I generally use the php packages from www.entropy.ch just so i dont have to bother with compiling. My versions of Ruby, Apache 2.0.x and Apache 2.2.x i compiled myself, along with an upgraded version of Python and alot of other libraries.
Then you can jsut make some changes to configuration files to use the versions you want. However if you use the entropy.ch packages of php as i suggested the installer takes care of the configuration changes for you. Jsut make sure you grab the one for the proper version of apache youre going to be using it with.
Additionally you could always get Mac/DarwinPorts - whatever its called now... this is a package manager like apt-get or yum under linux. It fetaches the package for you from a repository, and installs it. I dont use these because they use a different dir structure than standard Darwin - ie. the create the /opt folder and install under this. I dont really like that so i dont use them - but that isnt going to cause you any problems, its jsut a preference thing.

I know it comes with apache 2. I think it may also come with php 5.1.6 (5.2.x is avialable though).. not sure about MySQL at all...

Server 10.3.9 - MySQL Upgraded and PHP cannot connect to it.

I have a Clean 10.3.9 Build after it crashed I needed to recover it. I would like to use this to host a CMS called MODx but it required MySQL 4.1 and 10.3 ships with 4.0.
So I downloaded the latest installer for MySQL of the website along with the Administration tool and have MySQL 4.1 running happily on the server now.
I have my website configured to use PHP and it loads the pages perfectly - I just enabled PHP in the Apache Module of Server Admin. However it does not connect to the database and everything I have seen so far points to the link in PHP pointing to the bundled MySQL installation rather then an addition.
What do I need to update this configuration - no changes to php had been made it was using the defaults. I did a brief search on the net in the time available - but everything refers to 10.4 - which if we were running it I would not have needed to upgrade - but not to 10.3.

Like Dan White, I have found that I can still run the Lide 90 under Mavericks. As Dan says, the buttons on the front of the scanner don't work but I rarely if ever used them.
I have just tested the scanner using Acrobat Pro and it loads up the Scangear software to capture the scan, with no problems at all. I didn't have to reinstall anything as it was all there already and working in Mountain Lion. Photoshop CS 5.1 is different; it does not recognise the scanner, presumably because it can't find a TWAIN driver for it. Image Capture does not recognise the scanner either, but I don't have the latest (10.8) Canon MP Explorer and Explorer Opener software installed.
