Upgrade from CS to CS3 InDesign

Good morning, I have installed the CS3 trial version on my computer at work (I have this version on my home computer & really like it) - I am wanting to upgrade from CS to CS3 at work; question is can I upgrade to CS3 from CS or do I need to have CS2 first?
Thank You for the help.

Yes, you can can upgrade from CS to CS3. Make sure you order the right upgrade package as there are quite a few variations.

  • Upgrading from cs1 to cs3

Hi, I'm currently using cs1 on my imac (running Tiger). Should I upgrade to cs2 then to cs3 or do I have to buy the full version of cs3? If so, will I have problems opening files going from cs1 to cs3?? I'm confused! Thanks!

    Dov,
When upgrading from CS to CS3, I would like to add the Web editing tools. Which upgrade package is best to get? I especially need Flash & Dreamweaver. I noticed that there is no InDesign in that package. I do print and Web design so I need it all.
    Thanks,

  • Upgrade from CS2 to CS3? (for Windows XP)

Hi, guys. I'm new here. And I only signed up for the forums so I could ask someone for help!! Haha! So, here goes......
I recently started using Adobe CS2.
I signed up for the 30 day trial of RadLab by Totally Rad. It worked fine, but my trial expired before I could finish the photos I had been editing. So I uninstalled the RadLab trial, signed up for a new trial with a different e-mail address, and re-installed it. Only, this time, RadLab wouldn't work. So I contacted Totally Rad and the guy told me that RadLab won't work on CS2. It has to be CS3 or higher. (I'm still confused as to how RadLab worked for 30 days on my CS2 if it supposedly only works on CS3 or higher)...
So, now, I am looking to upgrade from CS2 to CS3... but I don't know where to look. I tried Google, but nothing seems to match what I'm looking for. I would hate to upgrade all the way up to CS5, because I don't think my PC could handle it. (I've been told that CS5 takes up a lot of room, and I don't think my computer is strong enough to hold it all. My memory capabilities are very limited. Even with CS2, I couldn't open/edit much all at once.)
I say all that, to ask this...
How do I go about upgrading from CS2 to CS3, and it not cost me an arm and a leg? I'm on a super-tight budget ($150 is the absolute highest I'm willing to go). I'm unemployed and money is extremely tight.
Thank you in advance for your help!!

I don't want to burst your bubble about using Photoshop CS3, but I would expect any software with good trialware security to not work twice on the same system no matter whether you sign up with a different eMail address.  They'd be stupid not to have it work that way.
If you need the software to get your project done, why not actually buy it?
You're no doubt expecting to derive value from your project...  Shouldn't the people who worked to create the software you're using derive some value from their work as well?
I can appreciate your being on a budget, but the old saying "if you want to play you have to pay" comes to mind.  I'm sorry to be blunt.

  • Upgrading From Cs2 With Cs3 Extended On Computer

I currently have both PS CS2 as well as CS3 Extended on my computer. When I decided to upgrade to CS3 from CS2 I went with the extended version but find I really have no use personally for the 3D tools. Strangely, there is no way to 'downgrade' from CS3 Extended to plain old garden variety CS4. However, it does appear that you can upgrade from CS2 to CS4.
If both CS2 and Cs3 Extended are on my machine and I purchase a CS4 upgrade will the software see the CS2 and allow an upgrade to CS4, or will I be 'shut out' because I have CS3 Extended on the machine? Will I have to uninstall CS3 Extended and then do the upgrade to CS4?
Has anyone done this....seems like one of the two options above should work. Thanks.
    Howard

    Hi,
Just to let people know, this problem is far from 'fixed' from an Adobe Customer Service perspective has wasted (so far) 5 hours of my time without any resolution. I upgraded to Vista 64 bit to get more memory for Lightroom and Photoshop. Has to install my Extended CS3 then the CS4 Upgrade. Of Course the CS4 upgrade wouldn't recognise the CS3 Extended install. "No problems" I thought - I'll call my friendly customer service people tomorrow during working hours (note I live in Australia so these people are in Manilla). In the mean time I tested CS4 in trial mode
Anyway called Customer Service the next morning (today) and found that CS4 would not even accept the upgrade Serial number as it had decided that it was really a CS4 Extended Version and wanted a Extended Version Serial Number. I was advised that this was a known 'feature' as licence keys are further restricted by the language of the original install. And I had inadvertently left the upgrade install at the default of English (US) whereas my previous CS3 was set to a language of English (International) and once you start the trial it defaults to the version of the installed product rather than the version of the upgrade. ...Sigh.. After lots of fun with customer support and various failed attempts we had to do a complete uninstall of CS4 and a registry clean, a Photoshop Cache delete and a clean install to get back to square one (which is entering a CS4 product key)... Because the full install takes time, the helpful Technical Support person asks me to call back when it is done and gives me a support Case Number etc.
I call back ready for the unlock and quote my Support Case Number. Being a call centre I get a new person. And 'helpfully' all the extra information was not in my case file, just the basics that I had an upgrade issue and that it was resolved (lol). So we start again. This new technical support person says that it is not an approved upgrade path from CS3 Extended to CS4 and that he needs to put me through to Customer Support to explain my options (I barely control my urge to scream!).
After a long wait I spend ages talking to Customer Support who flatly deny that there is any approved path from CS3 Extended to CS4 standard and suggest that I return the upgrade and buy and extended one. I try again and get a second customer support person! Eventually after pushing they agree to try and seek 'special approval' for a non standard upgrade. At this point - after 5 hours of installing, uninstalling and hours on the phone to Adobe I am no closer to having a working CS4 upgrade.
I have escalated to Jack Nash via his Blog to (hopefully) get help. But it is really disappointing to have an issue that was supposedly resolved back in early October 2008 still exist and such challenges tyring to get Customer Support / Technical Support to address it.
My real nightmare is the future... With Windows 7 coming next year and doubtless CS5 in a couple of years... Unless Adobe change their processed I can see a nightmare many days process involving having install the original CS3, then CS4, then the special approval (again!) then CS5 etc... Really Adobe need to join the modern world. Adobe have our serial numbers held against our customer registration Email etc. So we should not have to have older versions installed in series to do an upgrade. Just have the install do an automatic check on-line that we have the most recent version licensed to us... and the on-line code could be e4asily changed to fix problems like this, rather than the rigid activation code installed on the CD.

  • Upgrading from PC and CS3

I'm currently running Photoshop CS3 on a PC.  I'm considering moving to a Mac platform and upgradinging to CS4 at the same time.  I've heard Adobe will transfer PC to Mac license for a small fee.  Can I do this while upgrading to CS4?  i.e., should I buy the mac version of CS4, or the PC and then ask Adobe to send me the mac version?
    Thanks,
    Tim

Adobe is notorious for being very slow to crossgrade their applications to another platform. Back in June, 2009, a friend of mine wrote:
"Does ANYone here have any contact with Adobe that can provide actual customer service? Our senior editor, Kathleen, has been trying to do a platform change/upgrade request on our CS3 Production Bundle since APRIL, and has been getting nothing but a runaround from the published customer service entities. Two case numbers, 8 phone calls, promised call backs from supervisors that never appear, lost faxes, the eternal circle of handoffs (you need to talk to sales/no, sales can't help you, please talk to customer service/wash, rinse, repeat) --- you name it, and not one helpful person in the mix. It's been two and one half months. Meantime, they have our shipping money and we have an outdated bundle for the incorrect platform for our current needs.
"Honestly, I'm not inclined to bash a company's support without being given good reason, but this has to be one of the most frustrating experiences I've seen with any tech company, anytime."
This looks like a complete exercise in frustration to me. Here is the resolution to the issue, posted in July, 2009.
"Just wanted to give an update on our Adobe platform change/upgrade saga. Many of you were kind to give us resources and advice regarding the trouble we were having with Adobe's published front-line customer service...
"Longtime friend L.W. had the best suggestion though -- he forwarded my complaint to his friend Simon, a top executive in charge of video/film (dynamic) media applications at Adobe. I'm happy to say that the attitude towards customer service at this level is excellent, and within hours Simon initiated a review of our case which resulted in our getting the long-promised software yesterday -- and this case has started a dialogue within the company to avoid problems like this in the future. I think this proactive approach to accountability at the highest levels says good things about Adobe for the future. Thank you, Simon. The business world needs many more like you."
So you may be in for at least two months of non-service unless you can get in touch with someone like Simon at Adobe. I don't know Simon and I don't know how to get in touch with him, or anyone at his level. But "ladder climbing" up the ladder of supervisors may be your best shot. Also keep a complete record of all communication with Adobe, so that you can show the company how long it has been taking you to get the crossgrade.
Others have suggested the upgrade route (to another platform) is the best choice. That suggests that Adobe has made crossgrading nigh impossible and that only top management has the pull necessarily to get the job done. Since this is an Adobe forum, I would hope that, since last summer, their policies have changed and that id no longer takes two to three months to get the software crossgraded after payment has been made.
A comment from Adobe as to precisely what steps one should take to get results within a week would be appreciated.

  • Upgrading from MX to CS3?

    Hi,
Thanks for any input. I have been using Dreamweaver MX for a
long time and im thinking of upgrading to CS3. I wanted to ask
first of all will the sites I made in MX be able to be imported and
    edited etc in CS3?
Next I will be needing forms on some of my up coming sites.
Are they fairly easy to learn how to do in CS3?
Next will the upgrade to CS3 be compatible with Fireworks
MX? Any chance that CS3 and fireworks MX works with PDS files?
One more question.. Outside of all the extras since I am
very familiar with MX will there be alot to learn before I can
build a standard site? In other words if I didn't add forms and
such and just did what im doing now in MX all will be about the
    same?
    Thanks again,

Yes. Make sure you EXPORT from MX (Site Manager) first. Then
    if they are
automatically migrated by CS3, you can import them all.
    > Next I will be needing forms on some of my up coming

Forms are difficult for everyone who is not willing to take
    the time to
learn how to manage them. The process of building a form in
    HTML is simple.
It's the processing that is tricky for new builders. Which
    part are you
    referring to?
    > Next will the upgrade to CS3 be compatible with

    > that CS3 and fireworks MX works with PDS files?
In what sense? Do you mean will CS3 work with the HTML
    written by FWMX?
Yes. But this method is VERY sub-optimal, and will lead to
    fragile page
structures. It's better to just use your graphics editor to
    create your
graphics, and build the pages in DW. And do you mean
    Photoshop PSD files?
But DW doesn't work with them anyhow....

Perhaps - but CS3 is very much more CSS-centric than MX was,
    and you will
definitely need to ramp up your skills in that arena. On the
    other hand, if
this is something you are serious about, that's a good thing
    to do
    anyhow....

  • Upgrading from CS2 to CS3

I've been given the go-ahead to upgrade to CS3 from CS2. (downloading as I type here.)
I was wondering if anybody has any tips to help make this as seamless as possible.
Are there any preferences, pre-sets, etc. that can transfer to the new apps from the old ones.
    Chris
    ID CS2 4.0.5.688
    Mac OS X 10.4.11 - 2X3Ghz Dual-Core Intel Xeon - 2 GB RAM

Make sure you burn that installer to a CD or DVD.
You will need to set up the new app from scratch.

  • Upgrading from PageMaker 7 to InDesign CS4

Okay - My PageMaker 7.0 went a little nuts this week. A few weeks ago I had installed my daughter's InDesign CS2  that she no longer uses (since she moved to MAC) to see if I could handle an upgrade to InDesign. Was planning on purchasing CS4 if I felt I could make a smooth transition.
So...since I'm about to begin a HUGE project for my biggest client with a firm deadline, can someone tell me if it will be a rough transition? I already have issues with CS2 not being able to open PageMaker files (claiming the file is damaged...but I read this is a common issue).
Will CS4 open PageMaker files?  Are there any other issues I should know about in advance?

What OS? There is a known problem with ID opening PM files under Windows XP SP3.
    Ken
You know...sometimes people are just too smart!  (but seriously...thank you!)  Or sometimes I just am not thinking clearly. Absolutely - I will download the trail version.
As for the OS - just looked. Of course...it's 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600.

  • Upgrading from CS to CS3

I work at home with CS and at work with CS2. I'm getting upgraded to CS3 at work, and in accordance with the Adobe license, I'd like to install CS3 on my home computer as well.
Can I do the CS3 install over CS, or do I need to first install CS2?
    Best, David

Futher to that, you don't install PS "over" a previous version, but a new version installs in its own directory.

  • How can I upgrade from Web Premium CS3 to Flash Pro CS6?

I have a license for Web Premium CS3 (including Flash CS3 Pro) and bought an upgrade for Flash CS6. But I had problems with my license code because the installer always want's a Flash CS3 Pro license code and I only have a Web Premium license code. How can I solve this?
    Thanks

You can't. Standalone products cannot be used with a suite serial. Eitehr you buy a full standalone license of Flash or upgrade your entire suite. Get in touch with sales.

  • Converting back and forth from CS4 to CS3 inDesign

Hi I have a favorite designer who only has CS3 -- I am working in CS4. We are working on a 200page book design layout and cover togehter. What are the risks of going back and forth? We did a test from me to her CS4-CS3 via INX. She could open the file just fine. This is a relatively simple text book with some Jpeg diagrams. Can the formatiing start jumping around -- or is the problem more in new advanced features in CS4.
    thanks for any help Michael

Any of those scenarios will probably work. The reflow issue is that there are differences in the text engines between the versions.
When your designer opens your .inx file, the text is automatically recomposed and some line endings might change. This can cause the line count to change for a block of text and result in an overset situation or a new wido/orphan problem. Your designer wouldn't see your original line endings.
Conversely, when you open the CS3 file none of the text is recomposed until you start to edit, and then that story will recompose. You see the CS3 composition until you edit, or force a recompose using the Alt (Opt) + Ctrl (Cmd) + / Keyboard Shortcut, which is a recommended first step if you exchange files like this to avoid surprises late in the process.
The major points here are that sending files round trip is subject to text reflow which may or may not be critical (but you'll need to look at every page carefully to catch things like forced line breaks that no longer fall at appropriate locations and oversets or keeps problems) and you'll have to limit yourself to using only features supported in CS3 up to the point where it will remain in CS4 for finalization.

  • Help Needed. Upgrade from CS2 to CS3 and now PSD Linked Files Not Read?

    Hi!
Just upgraded to Illustrator CS3 and I am trying to work on a document I created in CS2 and for some reason when I open the document I am getting this message:
Could not find the linked file "filename.psd". Choose repair to locate the missing file, Replace to select another file, or Ignore to leave the link unchanged.
Now I went in to try to re-link the file, but I can not 'see' any PSD files? I had a series of transparent PSDs in that document.
Why can't the new Illustrator see my PSD files and how do I fix this problem?
    Thanks!

Hi! I just wanted to post back to say that I ran the installation CD again to fix whatever might be wrong and when I re-opened Illustrator I could go in and see the "PSD" extension to re-associate the files.
I'm now having problems with Photoshop CS3, so I'll have to sort that now. Not the smoothest of upgrades to this CS3 suite, I must say. LOL
    Oh well!

  • Want to upgrade from CS3 [Design Premium] to CS5

    Hi,
Want to upgrade from Design Premium CS3 to CS5 and saw there's a difference in price from upgrading from CS4 & CS3. Dumb question: If I bought the CS5 upgrade, would I be able to install the suite or would it ask for the previous CS4 version? If it only asks for CS3 I would really save some $$$$$$.
    Can you help,
    Ellen

What do you mean, there is a difference between upgrading from CS3 and CS4? An upgrade is an upgrade, there is only one price for an upgrade.
In CS4 (and CS5) Adobe introduced tiered upgrade pricing for suites only.
    http://www.adobe.us/products/photoshop/photoshop/faq/
What is Adobe's tiered upgrade pricing policy?
Adobe's tiered upgrade pricing policy offers customers who upgrade at every release a lower upgrade price relative to customers who upgrade less frequently. This means that customers upgrading to Creative Suite 5 from Creative Suite 4 will pay a lower upgrade price compared to customers upgrading from an earlier version of Creative Suite.
Why does Adobe offer tiered upgrade pricing?
Customers who upgrade regularly have long requested better pricing compared to those who upgrade infrequently. Adobe introduced tiered upgrade pricing in 2008, with the launch of Creative Suite 4, to reward these customers.
Does tiered pricing also apply to individual Creative Suite components?
No. The tiered upgrade policy applies only to editions of Adobe Creative Suite and not to upgrades to individual components, such as After Effects, Flash Professional, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and so on. Customers can upgrade to the CS5 version of individual CS components from up to three versions back. The only exception is Adobe Premiere Pro; customers can upgrade to Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 from any earlier version of Adobe Premiere.

Contact Adobe Support.   The Software disk may not need to be returned.  You might be able to simply purchase the proper license and perhaps pay the difference in cost -- they can tell you the options.  I believe that there is an upgrade path from academic software to a regular license.
