Upgrade now or endure painful wait til MARCH for a cool new phone?

So I am due for my upgrade now with Verizon.  I have been wanting a smartphone for a long time and that is still what I plan on getting.  I gritted my teeth and endured the long wait to see what VZW would unveil at the CES in Vegas this past weekend and those new 4g phones look nice...but I sure as heck thought they would launch within 3 weeks or so and not 'til MARCH?!  WOW.  Now this throws a wrench into the whole thing.  No, there is no 4g LTE coverage from VZW where I live now, but could it be right around the corner?  Part of me says wait and get a 4g phone and the other part of me says get a 3g phone now, as LTE will take a while to be complete and also "to work out all the kinks", as with any new technology.  Another wrench into my whole decision-making process is the iPhone.  With this pending release/announcement coming tomorrow, it's going to tick me off even more because it sounds like they are going to launch it even faster than the new phones they showed off at the CES in Las Vegas.  How did they swing that?!  Stupid fruit.  I have done a lot of reading about iOS vs. Android in the past 3 weeks and I have to say I am leaning towards Android right now....
What are your guys' thoughts?  Someone has probably thought of something that I have not...
My upgrades always seem to come at the WORST possible time.

To me, it seems your upgrade came at the best possible time! New devices are being announced, and you get a month or two to do your research.
Whatever you decide, there will always be something new and better around the corner. So choose something you will be happy with for at least 20 months. Or choose a phone with a high resale value to offset buying your next phone at retail.
Good luck deciding!

If water drained out of your phone when you pulled it out of the toilet it is most likelyh dead.  Stop trying to turn it on or plugging it in.  You really need to put it in a bag of rice for 3-4 days and just leave it alone.  It will take that long to get it totally dry to see if it is going to come back to life.
Good luck, but since you tried to turn it on, and plugged it in while it was probably still wet inside I would not count on it surviving.

  • My Battery is GREAT after upgrading to IOS5.1 I had to do a restore as new phone.

After upgrading to IOS5.1 my battery performance did not get better.  After doing a restore as a new phone, it is working VERY WELL!  I suggest if you are still having problems after upgrading, resto

I suggest turning off locations services, wifi, turn on "Auto brightness", and under Diagnostics & Usage, tick "don't send". By doing this I have increase my battery life from less than one day, to almost two days now.  It doesn't seem to be a huge secret that the more apps using locations services, or sending data every 15 minutes tends to use up the battery really fast. I don't care if someone posts on facebook, or twitter, I don't want anyone tracking my phone, I don't use iCloud. But I do text alot, I check email about every 4 hours or more, and I do rack up some time on the internet.

  • Help- erased my iPhone through Find my iPhone (as it was stolen) but now I can't see how to restore to my new phone!

My iPhone 4 was recently stolen, so I erased it via the Find my iPhone app.  I'm planning to get a new one and will want to restore it so it has all the data and setting from my old phone, but when I log into iTunes my old device isn't showing in the device list.  If it's not showing in the device list how can I restore the content to my new phone?

Thanks for your very helpful reply.  It's just what I needed after the stress and upset of having my phone and indeed my entire handbag stolen.  I was under the impression that this was a forum to get help, but with people like you around apparently not!
Please see below re some of your rude and in fact incorrect comments:

Why would it?  Devices only appear in the list when they are connected to iTunes either physically via a cable or via Wi-Fi.
Actually, that's wrong.  Maybe you should check your facts before you post rude and incorrect replies!

Read the User's Guide before asking any more silly questions.  Not trying to be rude but you come across as clueless.  The User's Guide covers basic functionality.
I have read the guide, it doesn't answer my question.  Perhaps if you read the guide yourself you would be aware of that!

  • HT1212 my phones touch scren is no longer able to be used. i am trying to sync what i have now on there so i can transfer it to my new phone when i get it. how do i do that when i cant unlock it?

my phones touch screen isnt working. im trying to sync everything to my laptop. since i cant unlock my phone, i cant sync it. what do i do?

The tip that you were reading when you posted this was about forgetting the phone's passcode. If that is what has happened the only way to recover data is already described in that tip, by restoring the phone on the last computer you synced it to. If it is asking for your passcode then you are not using that computer. The only option is to restore the phone from Recovery Mode as a new phone. All content will be lost. If you have an iCloud backup you can then restore from that.

  • Should I charge my iPhone 5s right now or should I wait

Hello folks!, Today I just bought an iphone 5S, I'm so exiceted for this amazing new phone.
I've been using it about 2 hours, and the battery is 60 or 70 I think, I just noticed that there's a update, and I want to update it and sync my music also.
Should I do It rigth now, and leave the iphone 'til it reaches 100% or Should I wait 'til it's drained out? thank you so much I hope an answer I'm new in this

It doesn't matter. Your iPhone has a lithium ion battery. You can charge it whenever you need or want to. Apple recommends that, once a month, you let it drain until the phone turns off then charge it completely but that is just to calibrate the sensor. You won't hurt the battery if you don't do that.
    Enjoy your new phone!

  • WHY VERIZON TOOK AWAY A SECOND UPGRADE TO REPLACE A  BRAND NEW PHONE THAT WAS DEFECTIVE

I have had a cellular account for many years with Verizon. I currently have three (3) lines on my account. (removed), which is my phone, (removed), which is my husband’s phone, and (removed) which is my son’s phone.
I upgraded my phone to the Ipone 4 in 2012 under my son’s line (5841), so this line should be eligible for another upgrade this year.
In April 2014 I upgraded my husband’s phone under my line (9835). We originally upgraded to the Moto X, and I was charged the $35.00 upgrade fee. Unfortunately the Moto X had multiple issues and your tech support could not figure out how to fix the bugs so they replaced the first Moto X with a second one, that still had issues, so we were sent a third one, but Tech Support couldn’t get the phone activated. Since we went through three (3) Moto X’s and your Tech support admitted this phone is known for certain issues, a supervisor overrode the 14 day return rule and allowed us to choose a different phone for the upgrade. My husband wanted to go back to the Droid Maxx, which is what he originally had and loved. I had to pay $99.00 for this phone. The supervisor had to get my permission to extend my contract under this line (9835) an additional two (2) months since we were switching the original upgraded phone to a different one and I of course agreed, whats another two (2) months. I was not charged $35.00 a second time.
When I went on line to see when the (5253) line would be eligible for upgrade so I can upgrade my Iphone that is now two (2) years old and starting to have serious issues, I saw that this line is not eligible until August 2016, which means your company is claiming we already did an upgrade for 2014 which WE DID NOT.
On August 25, 2014 my husband called tech support about the Droid Maxx as it was having DATA issues, it would not send or receive pictures and kept saying Data Error. Tech Support did a hard reset, which did not fix the problem. It also stopped taking pictures and a few other problems with it so Tech Support sent us a new Droid Maxx under the manufacturer’s warranty since the phone is under one (1) year old. But Apparently whoever put in the order put it in as a upgrade happening on August 25, 2014. When I called to get this straightened out, I was advised that on May 20, 2014 we upgraded to the Droid Maxx so this line is not eligible for upgrade until May 2016. I tried to explain this was NOT an upgrade it was an override of the 14 day return rule to allow us to change the upgraded phone to the Droid Maxx since the original upgrade phone the Moto X had multiple issues that could not be fixed by your company. I am now being told that I autherized a second upgrade under the 5253 line for the Droid Maxx which is NOT TRUE. I would never have authorized an upgrade for a second line to replace a BRAND NEW PHONE that was an upgrade on the 9835 line. That makes no sense whatsoever. It was not our fault that the Moto X is a phone that has issues that is no fault of ours, so why should I be punished and have an upgrade taken away from me in order to replace a Brand New Phone that didn’t work?
I talked to customer service two days ago and promised a call back to resolve this in 24-48 hours, but I never got a call back.
I have been a loyal customer of Verizon since I have been out on my own. I had Verizon landline for many many years and went to Verizon Wireless when they became available. I have talked many many friends into switching to Verizon because their customer service has always been top notch and I always felt like this company cared about its customers. But to have this happen just has me speechless.
As I explained above, my phone needs replacing very soon as it is two (2) years old. I can’t get voice messages that are clear, it drops calls, even with full bars, it doesn’t ring half the time when someone calls me. I have been told on numerous occasions that someone has tried to call me but it went straight to voice mail, but my phone is always on, it showed no miss calls, nor did it ever ring so the calls aren’t even going through. It has had a hard reset a few times, but the issues are just getting worse. I am not going to upgrade under my son’s line 5841 in November because I am not going to extend his contract for two (2) more years. He has an old flip phone that is four (4) years old and if that phone goes up, how will he be be able to upgrade if I have to use his upgrade?
I am asking that you please look into this matter and correct this upgrade issue. The 5253 line should be eligible for an upgrade now, not in 2016.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter. If you need to contact me you can try calling my cell at (removed). (If the call will go through)
    Thank you
    (removed)
Looks like US Cellular has a promotion going on where they will buy out my contracts if I go with them.  Guess I will be leaving Verizon since they refuse to do the right thing.

shoostar, I'm sorry this had to occur on your new phone. In your post, I show you were heading back to the store to exchange your device. Please let us know if the store reps were able to resolve your issue or if they simply exchanged the phone. When a customer has an issue with an application, we always first recommend removing the application off the phone. If you are able to remove the app and still have issues or are not able to remove the app, the second suggestion is a master reset. I have listed both options below for your convenience.
Steps to remove an application below:
Note: Applications included with the Android Operating System may not have an uninstall option.
From the home screen, select the App menu.
    Select Settings.
If the application icon is missing, select App menu filter (located at the top) then select All apps.
    Select Applications.
    Select Manage applications.
From the All tab, select an application.
    Select Uninstall.
    Select OK.
    Select OK.
Steps below to perform Hard/Master Reset:
Note: Performing a hard reset will remove ALL data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications.
From the home screen, select the App menu.
    Select Settings.
If the application icon is missing, select App menu filter (located at the top) then select All apps.
    Select Privacy.
From the Personal data section, select Factory Data Reset.
    Select Reset phone.
If presented, enter the current passcode or draw the unlock pattern.
    Select Erase Everything.
Allow up to 3 minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete, then perform initial activation and setup.

  • I have a new iPhone 5c. I just downloaded my pictures off of my old iPhone onto my pc but now I don't know how to upload them to my new phone. Does anyone have and suggestions?

I just got my new iPhone 5c and I have succesfully transfered my pictures from my old iPhone to my PC but now I am not able to get them onto my new phone. Can anyone help?

One way is via iTunes sync: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
Another option would be to turn on Photo Stream on both devices and then add the photos (as described in "When do my photos upload to Photo Stream") to Photo Stream on the computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486

  • Just an FYI...do not activate your iPhone under a different number. My upgrade came through my husband's number and Verizon told me to activate it first through his then switch it to me. Now I have to wait 24 hrs to activate bc of sim card

Basically the sim card has to be inactive for 24 hrs and now I have to wait until 10 tomorrow to activate under my number. Needless to say I'm not happy about it.

Not with your current user id.
Far too much uneccesary information in your post, which only confuses things, a vast amount!
    Let's start with iTunes.
Have you updated iTunes to 11.1.5, because the previous version did appear to have an issue about seeing iPods?
With iTunes 11.1.5 installed, look in Edit/Preferences/Devices, (or use the ALT key, followed by the E key and then the F key) and make sure that the box named Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically does not have a tick in the box.
Once you have doen those two things, check to see if the iPod is seen by iTunes.

By the way, what does IOS mean? (I thought IO stood for operating system, but am flummoxed by the S on the end.
    Really?
OS stands for Operating System. (In computer speak, IO means Input/Output.)
iOS originally stood for iPhone Operating System, but it now refers to the iPod Touch and iPhone. The iPod Classic, which you have listed in your profile as your iPod, does not use iOS.
I assume that you have been listening to the Podcast in your iTunes on the computer as you cannot transfer it to your iPod. It's what I'd do.

  • Should I Wait Til  new OS or not

    hi,
I'm wanting to get a new laptop and i want it to be a mac, actually i'm planning on getting a macbook pro. I do want to wait until the 7200 RPM hard drives are available in the "15 version. But i don't feel like waiting til that Leopard is out or whatever they call it. Is upgrading an OS on a MAC as big of a deal and possible inconvenience as it is on a PC. Some advice please thanks

Those issues can typically be fixed if you read my FAQ*:

Please start a new topic thread if you are having trouble with a MacBook Pro and airport, as that has nothing to do with the question here. Here is the post new topic link:

    jpeterross,
As for whether you can update now or later, only you can tell what your needs are. Mac OS X is very stable now, and every new Mac can only boot the system it came with or later up to a hardware limitation. Thus waiting till Leopard, you'll find new Macs that likely (this could change, but this type of limitation hasn't changed since the first Mac) won't be able to boot into Tiger eventually. Why wait for everyone else to catch up into Leopard compatibility, when you can be assured that compatibility today with the current operating system? Ask whether Tiger can run what you need today? And if it can, and you can afford a new Mac today, go ahead and get one. Don't let the preponderance of issues on this board deter you into thinking Macs are filled with issues. Most have no issues, and thus people using them have nothing to report.

  • E-mail from Verizon says I can "Upgrade Now" and has special prices, but VZW won't honor ad!

I got an e-mail from Verizon last night that says "Get your new phone now. Save up to $50 on already discounted phones". The e-mail has some prices on it, such as a new Droid X for $99.99 (2 Year Price: 199.99, online discount -$50.00, exclusive discount -$50.00). The e-mail clearly indicates (by use of the last 4 digits of my phone number) which phone on my contract the offer is good for. When I click on the link in the e-mail, it takes me over to the VZW website, where I enter my username and password. Once I do that, the Droid X is priced at $149.99 (instead of $99.99), and there is NO $50 discount applied to any other phones. I called Verizon's customer service, and got the run around. One CS Rep told me I wasn't eligible for a new phone (then why the e-mail?), and then told me that another line on my contract was eligible for a upgrade. When I check into upgrades on that line, however, the prices are the same as on the first line). I asked to speak to a customer service supervisor, and had to wait an hour before one called back. He also didn't know anything about the e-mail, and implied that I was lying about it.... He asked me to fax the e-mail to him, and then stated it would take several DAYS for him to even get the fax, let alone get back to me. It is my expectation that I will never hear from the Verizon supervisor about this, and will never have the chance to take advantage of this offer. This is CRAPPY customer service! I have been a VZW customer for about 15 years, and have several smartphones ($$$ per month total) on my account. I'm beginning to run out of reasons not to jump ship when my contracts end. I'd like someone from VZW who has a clue what they're doing to contact me...but I'm not holding my breath!

It sounds like this is a standard email for when your NE2 upgrade is available. That would be where the extra $50 comes from. Unfortunately, if the email literally says "Save up to $50 on already discounted phones" that does not guarantee a full $50 off. I can understand your frustration that you got the email in the first place when your line isn't eligible for an upgrade, but Verizon is most likely trying to get you to use the upgrade on the line that is eligible. I'm not saying that is exactly what's happening, but everytime I contacted customer service or went in the store, they tried to get me to use one of my line's upgrades for my own line, which I did not want.

  • I bought my 6 plus last night decided to upgrade the IOS 8 like they suggest and now all I see is a white screen with the apple sign in the middle with an occasional flashing red screen. Did my new phone seriously just crash? What do I do now?

I bought my 6 plus last night decided to upgrade the IOS 8 like they suggest and now all I see is a white screen with the apple sign in the middle with an occasional flashing red screen. Did my new phone seriously just crash? What do I do now? I left it overnight with the white screen, thinking maybe it'll go away and needs time to upgrade. Woke up this morning, nope still white screen. Very disappointed with Apple. I was so excited to get my phone and can't even use it right now.

First turn the iPhone off and back on and see if it works.  If that doesn't work then do a Reset by holding the Sleep / Wake Button (The Power Button) and the Home Button at the same time until the white Apple Logo appears, the release both Buttons and wait until a Full Reset occurs.  The iPhone 6 should come back to your Lock-Screen.  If that doesn't work then you could connect the iPhone 6 via the Lightning Cable to a Computer with a Current Version of iTunes.  Then open iTunes on the Computer and wait until your see a Button that represents your attached iPhone and click on it.  This should bring up a Summary Screen on the Computer within iTunes.  At that point your can choose Update Software if an Update is available or Restore the iPhone to Factory Settings / New In The Box, or you could try to Restore from your Backup if a current Backup had already been saved from a previous iPhone.
If you don't have a computer with iTunes and you can get the iPhone back on, then go to Settings>General>Software Update and see if the iPhone is still on iOS 8.0 or if it is now on iOS 8.0.2

  • Upgrade now or later?

Need the opinion of those who know.
I am in the middle of dance recital season, 6 shot, 6 more to go. Do you think CS6 is stable enough and provides enough improvements over CS5.5 to upgrade now? Or should I wait until the shows are finished. (2 months from now)
I'm going to upgrade, it's just a mater of when. I'm afraid of upgrading and having issues that delay the production of the projects.
I know my machine is up to the task, thanks to the knowledge of the "Gurus" here on the forums, so that is not an issue. Just want to make sure there aren't any bugs that need to be dealt with before running smoothly.
    Thanks!
    Jason

    Huntson
Thanks for your input, however, a "soft and blurry" image in the multi-cam window is hardly an issue that negates upgrading from CS5.5 to CS6. The resolution of the Multi-cam editor shouldn't be an issue as it is for the quick and easy edit of multiple cameras at one time. I believe the rest of us use the timeline to do the main editing.
And not neccessarily aimed at Huntson, but in general, I keep seeing posts by people that say something about "I could do X in FCP" or "FCP had X". From what I've seen and heard, FCP took a major dive and that is why alot of those people are here. It's obviouse that Adobe is the better product, or there wouldn't be so many converts. If you have something you liked in FCP and it isn't here, or doesn't perform the way you think it should, then turn in a feature request. Adobe has shown that they listen to their customers and I'm sure if enough of you say the same things, they'll make the changes needed.
As I stated in my first post, it's a matter of when, not if. I will be upgrading because the product is worth it.
If you've come from FCP, I say welcome! If you have a question, ask it. These people listed below are who I call the "Gurus", and they will definately help you in any way they can. And trust me, they will all admit if Adobe has a problem or didn't get something right. But those things are few and far between and these people know how to fix, or work around, almost anything you can come up with.

  • Ipad App Store said "20" updates.  I attempted to update w/3G.  Now many apps say "Waiting" and are frozen.  When I go online and plug into computer it just updates and doesn't address the individual apps, which still say "Waiting" and are frozen.

iPad App Store app said "20 updates".  Attempted to update w/3G.  Updated some, but now many apps say "waiting" and are frozen.  I attempted to update then by attaching to computer Itunes Store.  All it did was very quickly go thru the 4 steps and said, "Synched, OK to uplug."  I clicked my ipad and then apps.  It also said Update complete (or something like that).  Now several apps on iPad are frozen and say "Waiting".  Help!!

Oh a few other things I forgot.
The long winded back-ups!!!! JESSSSSSH! Although I think the latest update seems to have bit into this a bit.
Also why is it that sometimes when the iPhone is syncing it will not say on the actual iPhone that it is syncing. I see it's syncing in iTunes but the iPhone doesn't have the typical do not disconnect -syncing message!!! What's odd is I can see the new apps being updated to the iPhone and as long as I don't open any apps it will finish it's sync but the minute I open any apps the iPhone will lock-up!!!
