Before going to do BW project , you should consider the following things.
1)You must understand the Business requirements of the project.(project preparation)
2)Design the specification.(Here you should consider, if SAP supported pre-built in objects available).let's say, sap has preconfigured cube, ods,roles,queries, and infosource etc.. in Business content.
you should search if any of SAP Business content object suitable for your Business requirements.
If your Business requirement is to overview the Sales of particular company in a year, sap has provider Sales Overiveiw cube already, you can use them, instead of creating by own). Business blueprint.
3)Create a object according to the specification you created in the previous step(realization).
4)Create a Documents for your projects(final preparation)
5) Test your bw project in QA/PRD system..(go-live)

Organization structure for Case study .... need yr advice

Hi I am in process of preparing an org structure for one of the company.
The company operations is like .
The company has four factories in different locations and have 3 Regional distribution centers (RDC) across india. Each distribution center has 5 branches (Sales Offices), in this way they 15 Sales offices across India.
Most of the materials are procured by factories independently while some materials are centrally procured. Factories produce Finish goods and they are either sale to customer directly ( big regular customers) , or transferred to RDC to cater the requirements of other MID size customers and the other possibility to transfer it to Branches for Retail customers. RDCs also transfer FG to Branches.
All factories , RDC and branches have warehouse facility , however branches have limited warehouse facility as the customers supported by them are very few and generally deliveries are made directly from RDC / Factory.
They also have one R&D department in another location to develop new products and material is generally transferred from factories to R&D department.They also have one project division at the same (R&D) location which handles commissioning of new plants and procurement of capital goods.
Raw Material , Semi finish and FG are transferred between factories and FG material is also transferred between RDCs.
The group also has another Company which produces another line of products. RDCs and Branches of first company also work for second company (which means same RDC can store FG produced by both companies) and also Branches can also have FG material of both companies. Second company doesnt have any specific R&D or capital division and R&D and capital of first company also work for second company.
Inter company transfer between both companies is a regular practice.

Factory Configurations
For first company
4 Factories will be 4 plants
Factories Structure (Storage locations / warehouses and storage type)
Since factories have different type of material ( like FG , Raw material , WIP ) therefore I am confused what option I should select
1) 3 storage location ( for each plant) and one warehouse, 1 storage type
2) 1 storage location and three warehouses (I think this is not possible in SAP , not sure ?? )
3) 1 storage location , 1 warehouse and 3 storage types
RDC structure
RDCs have full fledged warehouse facility and therefore thinking of making them also as Plant. Every RDC will have 6 Storage locations , 1 for First company RDC itself, 5 for associated branches and I feel each RDC storage locations should be a associated to a separate warehouse also.
( Since both companies produce different set of products therefore they will have different material and hence thinking of handling products of both companies in same plant and same storage location and warehouse , may be two storage type/area can be defined to differentiate material of both companies.)
Branches: Will be storage locations under RDC ..
While making branches as Storage location . I have another question about valuation , since material from Plant and RDC is being transferred to Branches and from there it is distributed to customers therefore the valuation of FG at BRANCH and RDC should be different as transportation cost , packing , unpacking etc cost should get added at Branch level.
Therefore in case I make branch as Storage location , I will miss the valuation part while if I make them as Plant then there will be lot of documents get generated for each movement. Hence not sure for what option I should go.
R&D:
Since R& D department is involved in testing in New Product development and generally material is required to be scrapped after testing therefore thinking of making it as Plant with one storage location and may be here I dont need any warehouse (WM) here.
Project Division
Project division may also be a separate plant with one storage location and NO WAREHOUSE is required to linked with it.
Purchase Organizations
4 purchase organizations for each plant respectively and 1 centralized purchase Org for central procurement.

Phew... long long question
The rule I generally follow is that the org structure should map reality.
Company code - where Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss are prepared at the end of the year. If an entity does not do this, it is not a company code.
Plant
1) Each manufacturing facility is a plant (could be in 1 location or separate).
2) Each separate location is a plant (even if it only stores goods). May be an overkill, but helps when legal requirements change or the location is upgraded.
So in your case, RDC will be a plant (may be more than 1 if necessary). R&D should be a separate plant without warehouse management
Storage location
The only rule I follow is that there should not be any overlap of storage locations. So physically, any area of say 1 square foot should belong to one and only one storage location. Otherwise there is a lot of confusion during physical inventory. So logical locations are a no-no.
I usually use a lot of storage locations.
Don't have a warehouse spanning multiple plants (even though it is allowed).
Purchasing organizations
Have one for each location of purchase. If there is a team sitting in each plant procuring for only that plant, have it as a separate purchasing org (not strictly necessary, but makes authorization simple). For central purchasing, a central purchasing org should do nicely...

New Development project in the middle of ECC EHP7 upgrade project

Hi All,
We are performing ECC EHP7 upgrade project in our project system landscape and i have already started Dev system upgrade.Suddenly our development team wants to perform new project which required to install add-on product from third party application. Installing new add-on will require us to regenerate stack.xml file right? if that is the case do we need to perform re upgrade to Dev right?. As per my knowledge this is not recommended to perform parallel project with upgrade project.
Is there any best practice or recommended method to perform multiple projects with upgrade project at the same time.

Hi Raghu,
First here i would like to suggest you & your development team i.e during an upgrade project dual maintenance is required as per SUM guide,as per SUM guide you need to maintain parallel systems to perform regular activities, for same you could refer SUM guides and follow the standard procedures.
Installing new add-on will require us to regenerate stack.xml file right?
Yes you need to regenerate the stack.xml file .
if that is the case do we need to perform re upgrade to Dev right?
If you are under upgrade phase no need to perform re upgrade,required add on can be installed after completion of an upgrade as per availability for EHP7.
Try to avoid perform multiple projects with upgrade project .

Gridworld Case Study - how to use a .jar file with textpad

Hello,
I am a student currently working on a project involving the Gridworld case study. While trying to work on my project at home, I discovered that I would get new "cannot find symbol" compiler errors that I had not previously gotten while compiling the same code at school. I am assuming this has something to do with the .jar file included in the gridworld code. How do I get textpad and/or the java compiler to find and use the .jar file and reccognise the classes which i am importing and extending in my project?

Lessons Learnt - Upgrade
1)Convert Data Classes of InfoCubes. Set up a new data class as described in SAP OSS Note 46272.
2)Pay attention to the naming convention. Execute the RSDG_DATCLS_ASSIGN report.
3)Run the report RSUPGRCHECK to activate objects.
4)Upgrading ABAP and JAVA in parallel may cause issues. If there is no custom development on J2EE instance, it is recommended to drop the J2EE instance and re-install the latest J2EE instance after the upgrade.

Hi,
Automatic- It means that there will be a green icon. You will have to just click it and it is done.
This is because the changes to the SAP Object have been done either via SNOTE for some note application or you have used the modification assistant. So SAP does not have any problem in determining the changes. So the adjustment is automatic.
Semi-Automatic - In this case there will be a yellow icon. This means that you have to make some manual adjustments. This is because SAP considers that the adjustments are proper but still there is some discrepancy.Probably this is because you have made some note changes and additionally inserted some comments like begin of changes by xxxx on yyyyy for note zzzzz.
So in this case SAP will give you a split screen editor in whihc your existing code and the one coming from support pack will come. So you have to adjust accordingly.
Manual Adjustment - In this case there will be a red icon. This means that you have to make the chnages manually. This is because SAP finds a lot of discrepancy in your program and the one coming via support pack. The reason can be either the earlier note was incorrectly applied or you have added your own code for some custom requirment. So again SAP gives you the split screen editor to make the adjustments.
Your assumptions about Reset to Original and Adopt Modifications are correct.

SAP Implementation is the whole of processes that defines a complete method to

The SAP implementation process is made up out of four main phases, i.e. the project preparation where a vision of the future-state of the SAP solution is being created, a sizing and blueprinting phase where the solution stack is created and training is being performed, a functional development phase and finally a final preparation phase, when the last tests are being performed before the actual go live.
ABAP Developer Role is to prepare the Technical Specification (based on a Functional Specification given by a Functional Consultant), build the code, Review the code and finally to prepare the Unit Test Cases. Sometimes ABAPer may be asked to do a technical research for an optimal solution.
SAP Support:
After a go live, the application needs a maintenance/support to resolve the issues/tickets raised by the users when using the application. Ticket is like a request for changes/bug fixing or a request for a new ABAP Developer Role includes bug fixing/change the existing code due to new requirements/build a new code etc.
SAP Upgrade:
SAP Upgrade is nothing but upgrading the software with a superior version which has got more advantages when compared to the earlier version.
ABAP Developer Role is to go through transactions SPAU/SPDD to compare the old and new version of the change and finally need to activate the relevant one. Some times might need to work on SAP notes too.

i am in ot my First Upgrade Project.what will be the role of MM consultant when upgrade is happened from 4.6 c to ECC 6.0 from configuration point of view.

first you have to see what kind of modified business processes are followed in ECC6 as compared to version 4.6.sure you will get to know which fields are new in MM cycle. then prepare document for technical guys about the same so that they can provide same funcationality by modifing code of 4.6
second some time technical guys not able to under stand which kind of information is requred in perticular case(report) then MM consultant can help them for understand the business requirement.
they can also tell from which table a technical person can fetch the data.

Upgrade Project: CRM Function Groups

Hi All,
The Function groups like "CRM_ISALES_SOLDTO" which was present in SRM 3.0 is replaced in SRM 5.0.
I am currently on an upgrade project anr there are several Z FM's which gives a call to the FM's under this function group. Since they are unavailable in new system, all these Z FM's are showing syntax error.
Please let me know if there is any replacement made by SAP for the above Function Group or FM's under it?

Incase nothing suits you, then you need to go for Custom Z function modules in this case.
Take help of ABAP resources and create Z function modules, referring to the Standard Function modules in your old SRM 3.0 Version.
Also, raise an OSS message with SAP on this at the earliest.

The below link mentions "PSAP<SID>ES<rel>[X] or PSAP<SID>EL<rel>[X] " when in a recent SAP/Oracle book mentions PSAP<SID><REL> which was where my confusion came in as to which was correct.

The book I have says PSAPEL<REL>D is tablespace for release-dependant compiled abap code
and PSAPES<REL>D is for release-dependant abab source code
But the link describes them Exchange tablespaces.
Sorry if this has wasted time..... I will just go with PSAPQAS700 as you've all said.

As an XI Developer one has the following responsibilities
SLD developement is depends upon the Organization.
1) Developing Interface Objects
2) Developing maping objects
3) Developing Config objects like Creation of Communication channels , Sender and Receiver agreemnets, Interface data and    Receiver data.
In Addition to this he has to check whether the files are correctly picking and the files are correctly placing in the Target.
Any Mapping related error means he has to look into those
what are the responsibilities of an XI Developer?
A) Steps are as follows.
1) Receives functional specs.
2) Understand the business requirements.
3) Check whether are the required information is provided in Functional specs or not information like, source sturucutre,target strucutre,Transformation rule, test files, validation rules, error handling, data size etc.
4) Raise issue log if there are issues and resolve it with functional team.
5) Start building or designing the tech specs with all the required details like IR and ID part.
6) Develop the object as per the design.
7) Follow the naming convention as per the doc.
8) Test the developed object with test cases and prepare UTC.
9) Then review will happen with other team members.

Importance of OCM in an Upgrade Project

Many times when upgrade projects are commissioned, the need to involve the business community is often overlooked. However, upgrade projects can be defined in different ways, all of which require more or less change management activity. The idea is to get IT and the business to recognize the differences (i.e.upgrade entails switching out hardware behind the scenes with no new functionality for end user to learn v. upgrade that introduces a new user interface or new module). Once the difference in definition of "technical upgrade" is acknowledged, IT and the business can start appropriate converstations as to how they will work together to make the upgrade a success.
What was your experience in applying OCM to an upgrade project?

More and more businesses are waking upto the fact that even an Upgrade project needs Change Management to make it a complete success. I have led CM in 2 upgrade projects (technical upgrade) and agree with you on the fact it is essential to understand the differences b/w the two systems.
There are certain essentials which pertain to an upgrade:
Identifying the objectives and the benefits envisaged from the Upgrade
Communication to key stakeholders
Business Impact Analysis (This is where a large portion of the business users get involved)
Training on delta changes
My personal experience has been that the sponsors of the Upgrade are always keen on having CM but they lack the drive and the support that is essential to any CM success. The inherent resistance also lies in the fact that it is ingrained in peoples mind that a technical upgrade hardly requires any CM.
I refer to Upgrade as CM keeping in mind the scope, the criticality and the magnitude of change which is quite limited in this case. (CM being a subset of OCM)

Add BAPI to SAP case study flights - need access key

Hi,
i try to implement a BAPI which should be part of the business object "SFLIGHT" of the default case study of SAP.
If i try to change the business object "SFLIGHT", i receive a message window which asks for an access key to modify the business object.
I don't understand why SAP disables the change of the business object...this is not a productive environment, the case study should be for training purposes etc.
Can anybody tell me the access key or help me to change the business object?

Ok, now i know that it is not possible to change SAP-objects without beeing a registered developer. The registration process at the service marketplace is not possible with a trial version, so only customer-projects can be used in the trial version.
In my opinion, this makes no sense at all... but i found a workaround... i created a customer business object as a subtype of the SAP business object.
